A little bit about the shelter!
Hello, Kalos! My name is Baron and I wanted to raise awareness of our shelter. The Laverre City Pokemon Shelter is a couple miles outside the city, deeper into the forest. It's owned and operated by myself and my team.
We have a fairly large cabin where I and my team sleep as well as an area sectioned off behind my kitchen for particularly young or injured Pokemon. We have a larger barn-like building for big Pokemon as well as wild Pokemon that provides a warm, safe place from the elements. There isn't a ton of land, just a few acres but it does have access to a decent sized lake and river by the main house.
Our Pokemon we care for are free to walk around the property and interact with each other. My team oversees the area and are more than strong enough to help break up any conflicts, which are pretty rare to begin with. I'll tell you a bit more about my team next time.
We specialize in Pokemon that have been abused or abandoned by their trainers but we sometimes get lost or injured wild Pokemon and every so often a Pokemon that the trainer was just unable to care for.
With Pokemon that we can return to the wild, like local wild Pokemon that came in and recovered here, we release them once they're ready. Unfortunately, a lot of the Pokemon we get are unable to return to the wild due to their injuries, not being native to the local ecosystem, or simply never having been in the wild. Too many trainers don't realize that a Pokemon born and raised in human care isn't going to be able to care for itself in the wild. Because of this we're almost always adopting out Pokemon to special new homes.
After a prospective trainer passes our screening (conducted by my Espeon) we make sure the new trainer is ready to care for that Pokemon's particular needs and let them meet and spend time together at the shelter. If the two get along we have a trial period of about a month before we completely sign the Pokemon over.
A lot of our funding is from local donations, though the leader of the Lavarre gym has been an amazing help in making sure we have the supplies we need. Several people from the town also volunteer every once and a while but usually it's just me and my Pokemon so help is always welcome.
We also are more than happy to welcome people with various mental conditions that can stop by and spend time with our Pokemon as a form of therapy. People helping Pokemon and Pokemon helping people, isn't that what it's all about?
That's all for now. If you have any questions about the shelter feel welcome to ask! I'm happy to answer any questions I can.

A little about myself
Hello everyone! Let me introduce myself. My name is Baron. I'm the owner and caretaker of the Laverre Town Pokemon Shelter. I'll explain a bit more about the shelter in detail in a separate post.
I've was born and raised in the Johto region and spent most of my childhood in Ecruteak City. My father was a nurse at the Pokemon Center and my dad was a professional trainer so I've worked with Pokemon from a very young age.
Around the age of 16 I went off on my own journey and tried to be a professional trainer as well. I ended up traveling to the Kalos region where I took the gym challenge. After a year there I managed to become the champion but I decided to leave the League very shortly after that and relinquished the title almost immediately after. (I like to say I was the undefeated champion!)
Though the Kalos region is very affluent, during my challenge I realized it lacked safe places for abandoned or injured Pokemon to seek shelter. So I took my winnings from the League and bought a cabin and some land outside of Lavarre City. It's been a tough road but with the help of the locals and my team I've built a shelter to help provide a safe place for the Pokemon of the Kalos region.
And that's me in a nutshell! Ever since I've lived here with my team and the Pokemon in our care. Next time I'll give you all the details about the shelter!

IMPORTANT PSA!!!
As we go into this delightful season, full of spooks and surprises, candy and games, costumes and adventures, please remember that adopting a ghost or dark type Pokemon is for life, not just for Halloween!
I know it can seem like a fun idea to have a spooky companion this time of year, but keep in mind that ghost and dark types have special needs, especially ghost types, and dark types often have trouble getting along with other Pokemon. Make sure before you decide to adopt one that you are ready to make that commitment!
Ghost and dark type Pokemon are fantastic and can be some of the most fun and loyal Pokemon you'll ever meet but every year around November and December Pokemon shelters get flooded with unwanted ghost and dark Pokemon.
Also, if you think you're up to the challenge and you've been thinking about adopting a ghost or dark type, consider going to your local shelter or Center AFTER Halloween. There are plenty of loving ghost and dark types Pokemon that need a good home!
Please spread the word and this year help us Keep Ghost and Dark Type Pokemon Out of Shelters!
