HELPGAZACHILDREN!!!!!
Med @fairuzfan’s blog got terminated by tumblr which is obviously unjust for all the people who rely on them for resources on Palestine, but it now leaves Hussam’s helpgazachildren donation drive without a point of communication, and has deleted all previous information Med had shared about the drive.
Please remember to keep donating to helpgazachildren as Hussam’s hard work getting resources to families in Gaza should not have to be hindered while Med is working on getting their blog back 🤍🇵🇸

in terms of literal gender expression laurakinney is obviously not masculine but in terms of figurative gender expression her becoming fully independent is marked by her taking up a typically male mantle (wolverine). in this way she is still seen to be performing masculinity. aaaaand post

wait hold on i just reread this. "[krakoa] does not exclude people based on their ethnicity or race"
they arrested all the russian nationals?
mutation isn’t an ethnicity that’s never how it’s functioned in the narrative and although you could describe krakoa as an allegorical ethnostate, the fact of the matter is that it isn’t an ethno-anything because that’s not how mutation works
a more accurate conversation would probably be about the dangers of isolationism or exclusionary practices, but krakoa does not subjugate any indigenous population, is alive and actively welcomes mutantkind, and does not exclude people based on their ethnicity or race
there’s many issues with krakoa as a nation and a setting but most of them, including the presence of sinister on the council, are directly addressed on page and shown to be a bad thing
Okay. I'm going to try and be polite here.
1) Throughout the course of X-Men publication history, mutants are either compared to being, or directly stated to be, a distinct racial/ethnic group. Anti-mutant bigotry is described as racism. For all intents and purposes, mutants are a distinct race.
2) An ethnostate is described as being "a sovereign state of which citizenship is restricted to members of a particular racial or ethnic group." While obviously, in real life this frequently goes hand in hand with the subjugation, displacement, and oppression of an indigenous population, that is not a prerequisite to being an ethnostate.
3) I do not understand why the island of Krakoa being alive, sentient, and welcoming of mutants is relevant to the discussion of Krakoa as an ethnostate.
4) There are numerous problems with Krakoa. I am specifically discussing Krakoa as an ethnostate with parallels to be made to "Israel". These parallels are, I must re-emphasize, made explicit by the comics themselves, and NOT in a way that is in any way condemnatory!

exodus getting pregnant and being a working mother (his job is mutant terrorism), and Dane being a stay at home dad (because the avengers dont want him). but since Exodus is not around often (doing mutant terrorism and running from the law) Dane doesn't get a lot of help with the baby so he begs Pietro to babysit of he and Exodus's child so he can get some sleep and Pietro is like fuck you die but Dane's so poor and pathetic he finally gives in and the whole time is like fuck you child of the devil. but the baby's so cute and luna loves her (its pietros weekend with luna) and also when she starts talking she calls him uncle pietro. and dane (a cheater) starts becoming friends with Pietro again and they both wonder why they stopped being close (dane fucked pietros wife) and they develop deeper feelings. and dane cheats on exodus with pietro. But exodus doesn't believe in divorce so he just tries to kill pietro again.

the fact that duggan during the fall of x CONSISTENTLY has Orchis identify krakoa as an ethno-state as part of their scaremongering... well that feels bad lmao!

additionally, as Duggan writes it, the only people that have a problem with Krakoa are
non-mutants that want to kill all mutants
mutants who reject their status as mutants and collaborate with the humans that want to kill all mutants
there are multiple people in each group who are actual Nazis as well.
so, in short, you have:
a country that is by definition an ethnostate
the only people identifying it as an ethnostate are literal Nazis and "self-hating" mutants hellbent on wiping out mutants
the identification of Krakoa as an ethnostate is framed as being anti-mutant propaganda meant to stir up anti-mutant sentiment
the narrative puts forth the idea that if Krakoa does not exist, then there is nowhere on earth that mutants are safe
taken altogether, there are certain concerning real-life parallels to be made here (namely to "Israel" -- this is made worse by the fact that 2/3s of the founders of Krakoa have been presented as at the very least Zionist sympathizers, seeing as Xavier and Magneto met when they were both living in "Israel" in the years following the Nakba).
im not the first person to make these connections-- i think @brw has some posts and an essay going around from a few weeks back pointing this out-- but also, Duggan himself draws parallels between Krakoa and "Israel", in this exchange between Kitty Pryde and her rabbi from X-Men #25
Tumblr media
"[...] but if the mutants of the world wish to come together and form a state, it would be hypocritical of us to stand in the way of that."
i dont know i dont really have a conclusion here i just like . wanted to lay all that out.
the fact that duggan during the fall of x CONSISTENTLY has Orchis identify krakoa as an ethno-state as part of their scaremongering... well that feels bad lmao!

krakoa is a country where citizenship is defined by belonging to a certain racial/ethnic in-group (mutants); anyone not belonging to that racial/ethnic in-group (non-mutants) must acquire a form of special dispensation to live in that country-- this dispensation (an appeal to the quiet council, the unelected governing body) can only be acquired if a relative, spouse, or other loved one DOES belong to the racial/ethnic in-group. furthermore, this appeals process is informal, and is only seen to be enacted by a further privileged in-group who already know members of the quiet council.
furthermore, non-mutants living on krakoa are not privy to the same rights as mutants-- non-mutants are not normally given access to resurrection, and they do not have the same freedom of travel as mutants, because they cannot use the Krakoan gates, and other forms of travel (boats) are tightly controlled.
krakoa is, by definition, an ethnostate.
the fact that duggan during the fall of x CONSISTENTLY has Orchis identify krakoa as an ethno-state as part of their scaremongering... well that feels bad lmao!

like its only the Evil Genocidal people that want to Kill All Mutants that (correctly, i might add) identify krakoa as an ethnostate. wonder why that is 🤔🤔🤔
