Speed Darting - First edition photography - at Das Gift Bar

Dear all, it's been a while. I come back to you with the results of the first edition of Speed Darting, around photography.

It was a great night at Das Gift Bar (thanks to them!), with nine great photographers meeting two gallerists and a blogger (thanks to them too!).

They talked for 5min meeting each other. Results? Networking, some matches for future projects and a good amount of nice vibes.

The aim of the event is to help young berliner artists to get in the first basis of showing their work, or help them to concretise a project.

La Poulette presents: The Dressing Beauty

For the end of Month of Performance Art Berlin 2013, I have been invited to perform as Das Shift by Leen Horsford and Amy Cade on the 29th May. This night is all about gender and sexuality...

The Dressing beauty will be a reinterpretation of a strip tease. As a negative, with a dark light ambiance, you will see me dress up in white, discovering my silhouette in the dark. Singing along, Malene Bank, Signe Mortensen and Julie Rex will reinforce this atmosphere of girl power, as four women getting ready to go out partying or flirting.

A foreplay performance, to think about how feminity can be empowered by dressing up and how the feminity passes along the ages through ancestral gestures and tradition.

Speed darting!

Dear readers,

I am finally beginning a project I have wanted to do since I got in Berlin. There is going to be in June the first edition of SPEED DARTING, a speed dating between gallerist and artist to help both get together. The first edition will be around photography. Thanks to Artconnect, who will help me organize it.

Ce projet est parti d'un workshop avec les étudiants de l'école d'art d'Östersund, en Suède.

J'ai organisé des petites actions chorégraphiques dans la rue, jouant avec le fait que le journal LT avait une webcamera diffusant sur internet, en direct et 24h/24, les images d'un carrefour de la ville.

L'idée était de créer des petites scènes pour les personnes regardant la vidéo sur le site internet de LT, sans savoir que celles-ci sont fausses, comme par exemple un faux vol de sac à main, une baston de gang ou des chutes sur la neige. Cela a aussi permis d'introduire de l'absurde dans les vidéos, par exemple lorsque les acteurs s'arrête au milieu de la rue, courrent après un bus, font de la corrida avec les voitures ou s'arrêtent pour regarder la caméra...

J'ai enregistré les images du direct sur internet pour créer une vidéo où l'on peut observer le quotidien d'un carrefour d'une petite ville suédoise, tout en essayant comme dans Où est Charlie?, de repérer les anomalies.

Ce projet souligne le fait que sans le savoir, les gens passant par ce carrefour, tout comme beaucoup d'autres dans le monde, sont filmés dans leur vie sans le savoir.

Cela soulève un questionnement par rapport aux droits d'image et la manipulations de celles-ci.

2011 Vidéo de performance, neuf parties, 11' 32''

This project is part of a workshop with the students of Östersund Art School in Sweden. I was choreographing some little actions in the street, playing with the fact that the LT Newspaper had a webcamera broadcasting 24/24h directly on the internet images from a crossroad in town. The idea was to create little scenes for the people watching the LT website without them knowing it was false, as for the robbing, the fight or the fall. It could also introduce absurd in the videos like people doing stop motion, the impossible race behind a bus, two people doing corrida with cars, some stopping to look at the camera... I had the images recorded online and created a little movie where you can observe the everyday scene of a little swedish town, and try to find, as in Where is Charlie?, the unusualness or crazyness.   This project underlines the fact that without knowing, a lot of people going through this crossroad, such as many others in the world, are recorded in their lives without knowing it. It raises questions about image property and images manipulations.

The Chick presents: I have always wanted to present...

Grâce aux personnes qui, tout au long de l'année 2012, ont participé aux performances autour du thème "J'ai toujours eu envie de...", j'ai pu présenter pour mon DNSEP une performance appelée "J'ai toujours eu envie de vous présenter..."

Cette performance consiste en un ensemble de témoignage, où chaque personne raconte son expérience des performances auxquelles il a assisté/participé.

Le spectateur, dans une condition d'écoute, devient le récepteur d'un témoignage, un confident. Qu'il soit touché ou non par le récit, il n'en est pas moins interpelé, ce qui l'emmène vers une réflexion autour de ce thème de l'envie, d'actions de défoulement.

Thanks to the people who all along 2012, participated to the performances around the theme "I have always wanted to...", i was able to present for my DNSEP a performance called "I have always wanted to present..."

This performance is made by accounts or stories of each person, who tells his experience of the performances he saw or participated to.

The audience, in a listening condition, becomes the receiver of a testimony, a confident. Whether touched by the story or not, he is nontheless interpellated, which brings him to a relfexion around this theme of envy, of energy-releasing actions.

Les corps qui se débattent, les cheveux emmêlés, le regard intense de celui qui veut mettre son adversaire à terre. Quand j'étais petite, je regardais toujours avec émoi les candidats se battre dans Fort Boyard. Aujourd'hui, sauter dans les flaques d'eau ne suffit plus, il en faut plus.

Cette performance est une incitation à une violence gratuite et divertissante, sans but guerrier, seulement pour faire sortir de nous ce trop plein d'énergie et pour se rouler dans la crasse. Laisser parler notre instinct primaire, adorer ce retour à la nature, la sensation de la boue sur notre corps et ce corps à corps sous les huées d'une foule en délire.

Wrestling bodies, tangled hair, the deep look of the opponent you're trying to get to the ground. When i was small, i always looked with agitation the participants fighting in Fort Boyard (a french popular TV show of the 1990s with mud fight contests- see the picture). Today, jumping in water puddles is not enough, i need more.

This performance is an incitation to free and entertaining violence, with no warrior goal other than letting go this overflow of energie and to roll in mud. Let your primary instinct speak, love this way back to nature, the sensation of mud on your body and this wrestling under the hootings of the crazy crowd.

Cache-cache / Hide and seek

The Chick presents: I always wanted to play hide and seek

Un samedi de soldes, à quinze, s’incruster parmi les clients et partir pour une après-midi de cache-cache. Se cacher de ses amis, des clients, des vendeurs.

Rester un quart d’heure sous un lit, derrière un tapis, sous une table, se faire découvrir dans une armoire par un couple d’acheteurs, se faire envier des enfants.

Profiter d’un terrain de jeux à taille industrielle, et retourner en enfance pour quelques heures, sans se soucier du regard des autres.

An outlet saturday afternoon, fifteen people integrating into the crowd of customers for an afternoon of hide and seek. Hide from friends, from customers, from sellers.

Stay fifteen minutes under a bed, behind a carpet or under a table, get discovered in a wardrobe by a couple, get envyed by children.

Enjoy an industrial playground and get back to childhood for a few hours, without paying mind to other people’s opinion.

2012

Premièrement, regarder est le contraire de connaître. Le spectateur se tient en face d’une apparence en ignorant le processus de production de cette apparence ou la réalité qu’elle recouvre. Deuxièmement, c’est le contraire d’agir. La spectatrice demeure immobile à sa place, passive. Être spectateur, c’est être séparé tout à la fois de la capacité de connaître et du pouvoir d’agir First, watching is at the opposite of knowing. The audience stands facing an appearence, ignoring the processus of production of this appearance or the reality it blankets. Secondly, it is the opposite of acting. The audience stays motionless in its place, passive. Being the audience is at a time, being separated from the capacity of knowing, and from the power of action.

Le Banquet / The Feast

Un Banquet tout à fait spécial...

Une bataille de nourriture organisée, où une trentaine de personnes se sont affrontées pendant trois minutes courtes mais intenses. 

Pourquoi? Parce qu’on a jamais pu le faire au RU, parce qu’on préfère ne pas le faire avec ses parents, parce qu’on a pas le courage de l’organiser soi-même, parce qu’en général il y a seulement de la chantilly, parce que c’est vraiment drôle et parce que j’ai toujours eu envie de le faire. 

A quite special Feast ...

A food fight organized with care, with around thirty persons faced each other for three short but intense minutes. 

Why? Because we were never able to do it in the cafeteria at uni, because we wouldn’t do it at home with parents, because we don’t want to organise everything, because there’s most of the time only whipped cream, because it really is fun and because i always wanted to do it.

Syphilis

La Poulette présente: Syphilis. Virus. Comme un puzzle, un texte inconnu de tous, fait pour et à travers toi, qui se répand et n’appartiendra qu’à toi. Une bouffée de chaleur.

The Chick presents: Syphilis. Virus. Like a jigsaw, a text unknown to all, made for and by you, spreading thanks to you and that will be yours. A hot flush.

Cette performance a été présentée à la MJC du Grand Cordel à Rennes. 

Chaque personne présente recevait dans le creux de son oreille une phrase dite par la Poulette. Ces phrases, à connotation sexuelle, permettaient de répandre dans la salle une atmosphère particulière. Une ambiance ambiguë de malaise et de rires étouffés, entre excitation et gêne. 

De plus chaque spectateur se retrouvait maître des traces de la performance: garder sa phrase pour soi, comme un cadeau secret, ou la partager avec ses amis, ses voisins de performance, …

Il y a plus que tout le choix de faire tomber la barrière entre l’artiste et le spectateur, en créant un lien fort et direct. Une phrase partagée et peut-être déjà oubliée, mais qui permet le contact un court instant. 

This performance happened at the MJC Grand Cordel in Rennes, the 14th of april 2011.

The Chick whispered a sentence in each person’s ear. This sentence, with sexual connotation, allowed a strange atmosphere to spread in the room. An ambiguous ambiance of uneasiness and suppressed laughs, hesitating between excitation and embarrassment.  

Moreover, each spectator took control over the performance’s traces: keep the sentence for himself, as a secret gift, or share it with his friends, his performance’s neighbours…

The choice of distroying the gap between the artist and the member of the audience is made to create a strong and direct link. The sentence is shared, and maybe already forgotten, but for a short moment contact is made.
