A couple of historical easter eggs / references in Wasteland 3

Well, for a citizen of the US my discoveries may not seem overly exciting. But for me - a citizen of the Republic of Georgia which is rather far away from Colorado - they were pretty interesting historical references. I'm now writing  a fanfiction based on our beloved WL3 and I while I was searching for some images and maps of actual Colorado, I came across these: (The people who have played the game may know these characters, but for those who are unaware I'm giving very brief description of the both). 1. One of the main characters of Wasteland 3 is Saul Buchanan, known as the Patriarch. He is the ruler of Colorado and morally he is a rather grey character. The means he has used to bring stability and prosperity (as far as prosperity can exist in postapocalyptic world) to Colorado aren't always the ones a person with puritan views may approve of. But he has united Colorado - that is something one can't deny. Now the surname of the US president who signed an Act which created the free Territory of Colorado was... Buchanan. 2. In the DLC "The Battle of Steeltown" there is a certain character Karl Ludlow. He is the chief of security at the factory of Steeltown and the biggest bully in the playground who terrorises the workers, beating and torturing them into submission and forcing them to pay him for their basic need like having a break, going to the toilet, etc. As a result a violent strike breaks out at the factory and our Rangers have to go there and resolve the problem.   Now a mass killing of striking coal miners and their families, which took place in 1914 during the Colorado Coalfield War, is known as the Ludlow Massacre. And the name of the man who was reported to have killed the leader of the strikers was Karl.

I'm sure there are plenty of other historical references but though we did learn the history of the USA at school we didn't learn it in much detail.

People who know me would hardly believe it possible. Helen listening to a North-American patriotic song which reeks of Protestantism so much?!?!

C'mon! I'd tell those people. Don't be so silly. )) You first listen to the song in the video. ))))

What's really good about "Wasteland 3" it's the boss fight songs. They are so good that right now I can't listen to anything else at all. ))))

Almost all of them are covers, but rather tainted and twisted ones - often with the lyrics changed to bring them closer to the game. What makes them even more awesome is the contrast between the melody and what's happening on the screen. When your character sinks onto the blood stained floor whispering something like "Ah, so this is what the end is like..." and your medic is too far on the platform which a huge monstrous mutant is circling and cultists keep spawning from hatches trying to unleash the Holy Detonation... amidst all this mayhem the cheerful "There ain’t nothing we won’t try, Never heard the word "impossible"" playing in your speakers... well, it makes Wasteland 3 soundtrack so memorable. )))))

I am also wondering if Joshua James' cover is actually in minor instead of major as the original is. Unfortunately, my musical education isn't that good to be certain...

Finally! Canonical Tea and Vea - with fair hair. I’m so tired of explaining to people that Zerrikania is NOT Africa, it’s Persia. The girls have fair hair - and if we remember that in facts Persian are Aryans by origin and that pretty many Iranians still have fair complexion and even red hair, it fits. It fits even more if we remember that dragons are worshiped in Zerrikania (especially Golden Dragons) - the association is clear - dragons - golden (colour of flames and the sun)  - breathing fire - Zoroastrianism... Now a certain part of the Western world is busy reading “The Witcher” books by Andrzej Sapkowski - obviously before the Netflix... well, I find it hard to put it mild... is released. So sometimes I get glimpses of their “reviews“ here on Tumblr... Well, I didn’t expect much, but some reviews are such perfect examples of total inability to read and understand what you’ve read!... Unfortunately I haven’t saved the urls of the most exemplary “reviews“ but just let’s take this one... just for instance... One of the “reviewers“ writes that “ I was liking the Yennefer and Geralt’s dynamics when suddenly the fucking wish happened“ Are you serious? Or a pre-schoold kid? It’s just on seventh of the whole book and it’s only just starting and, yes, everything will be explained... Or maybe he/she’s only used to reading short summaries of books? Then the “reviewer“ complains that the “...world building ...was pretty flowed “ He/she can’t get “...how many kingdoms? Why is Rivia and the rivians not well considered (is he/she OK?)? What is the difference between the different titles of people in charge of the cities? (well, does he/she know about London Mayors and Venetian Doges?)...“ Well, I can’t really get how a person can draw any sorts of conclusions before finishing the book! Because “The Witcher“ is NOT a series - it’s one book in seven volumes. And if you read just one volume - you will know NOTHING about it... Энное количество народа в Западном мире уселось за чтения “Ведьмака“ Анджея Сапковского - естественно в ожидании выхода нетфликсовского непотребства... Иногда мне на глаза попадаются “обзоры“ прочитанного... Мама дорогая, нет, я не ожидала ничего особенного, но некоторые из них ну просто идеальные образцы тотального неумения читать и понимать прочитанное. К сожалению, адреса самых образцовых в этом плане “обзоров“ я не сохраняла, но вот, например. Некто, прочитав “Последнее Желание” пишет, что мол “ей/ему нравилась динмаика развития отношений Геральта и Йеннифэр, но тут случилось это гребанное желание!“ А? Ау, детка, а ничего, что это только 1/7 часть книги и все только начинается, и всему будет свое объяснение. А еще этот/эта некто жалуется, что у автора миросозидание (world building) хромает. Этому/этой некте нипанятна “Сколько королевств... и почему тема Ривии и ривийцев нераскрыта... и почему люди, управляющие разными городами носят разные звания (это меня вообще убило - детка не в курсе, что, скажем, в Венеции были дожи, а в Лондоне - мэр?!?!)... “ И о, да, разница между их званиями ну оооочень важна... В общем, так... я  реально не могу понять, как человек может приходить хоть к каким-то выводам до того, как он прочтет книгу. Потому что “Ведьмак“ - это НЕ серия, НЕ цикл - это одна книга в семи томах. И если ты прочитал только один том - ты еще НИЧЕГО о книге не знаешь...

– Ребятишки с Ард Скеллиг, – начал он, – любят зимой кататься на коньках, дождаться не могут морозов. Первыми вылезают на лед, едва скует озеро, на такой тонкий лед, что взрослых не удержит. Надо на коньках перескакивать через прибрежные камни, торчащие изо льда на манер акульих зубов. То есть прыгать, как лосось, когда он перелетает через пороги водопадов. Выбираешь соответственно длинный ряд таких камней, разгоняешься…

... В те времена, которые нас больше интересуют, чемпионом бывал мой сын, Яльмар. Он перепрыгивал через такие камни, через которые ни один из мальчишек прыгать не решался. И ходил, задрав нос, призывая всех попробовать его, как он любил говорить, «перепрыгнуть». И его вызов пр��няли. Цири, дочка Паветты из Цинтры. Даже не островитянка, хоть и считала себя таковой, поскольку проводила здесь больше времени, чем в Цинтре...

... На коньках носилась как черт, но чтобы прыгать «лососем» на соревновании с мальчишками? И вызвать Яльмара? Это в голове не укладывалось!

– Ясно. Прыгнула, – догадалась чародейка.

– Прыгнула. Этот маленький цинтрийский полудьяволенок прыгнул. Истинный Львенок Львиной крови. А Яльмар, чтобы не вызвать насмешек, вынужден был рискнуть, прыгнув через еще более длинный ряд камней. И он рискнул. Сломал ногу, руку, четыре ребра и разорвал лицо. До конца жизни у него останется шрам. Яльмар Кривоустый! И его знаменитая невеста! Хе-хе!

– Невеста?

– А ты об этом не знала? Столько всего знаешь, а этого – нет? Она приходила к нему, когда после «великолепного» прыжка он лежал и лечился. Читала ему, рассказывала сказки, держала за ручку… А стоило кому-нибудь войти в комнату, оба краснели как два мака. Ну и наконец Яльмар известил меня, что они обручились. Меня чуть удар не хватил. Я тебе, сопляку, отвечаю, покажу обручение, ага, плетью из сыромятной кожи. Но, честное слово, я немного испугался, поверь, потому что понимал, что у Львенка горячая кровь, что ей все трын-трава, потому как она бесстрашная, чтобы не сказать – психованная… К счастью, Яльмар весь был в лубках и перевязках, так что глупостей они наделать не успели, да и не могли…

– Сколько же им тогда было лет?

– Ему пятнадцать, ей – неполных двенадцать.
