Yeah. She knows she's gonna set stuff back. Cheshire ultimately doesn't mean major harm. She's just. Cheshire. She trusts her. She kinda got her into gardening to begin with to mitigate her destructive effects.
I can try to remember to ask. Can't guarantee anything.
My guess would be when they started to actively seek out Remnant behavior. With Alice (as Green Girl) being seen by so many players and the Agents of Luna busy with ironing out the differences between the Devs and NPCs, as well as constant resetting, Spades would likely notice that this set of ragtag beings were still aware and making active progress to breaching their world. I'd place it a bit into the Second Arc, around when Rose is recruited and before the Player meets her. By then, the word of both Alice and Spades would be enough to alert Phantom.
New update came out today (04/19/2024), so qmtrust the process. Big things are coming.

(im honestly too lazy to divide these all into separate asks, but i dont mind multiple responses)
- what does hikari think of cheshire’s doublesidedness in the war? how long has it been since they’ve last contacted eachother
- how much does spades know in RAM, then? because i got the impression he was being manipulated like everyone else
- i may have forgotten to ask this before, but when were the associates officially formed (as like, an organization) in gs’ timeline? i think that would easily answer a lot of my queries (゜ロ゜)
Cheshire is not exactly double-sided. Just neutral. She's having fun with everything and Hikari really doesn't care as long as she's not being hurt.
I didn't write Spades. You're gonna have to find a way to ask Apollo about that.
They were formed between the end of Arc 1 and the start of Arc 2. Riley mentioned she met Morgan after she was deleted and revived, so it puts them firmly after the first arc for sure. It's a mostly offscreen thing.

huuuurrmmm… i’m not sure if the issues with the traitor subplot was that spades wasn’t very mean… though i was confused on what exactly made him a “traitor” (besides being a bad friend to riley). as riley’s general writer, would you mind elaborating on that?
The fact he's working for a bunch of technoterrorists is a pretty big deal. We're not glossing over that.
Mostly headcanon here. She won't stand by this if I am given a real reason.
He was shown as just as glitchy and bugged at Riley was in the Backdoor. She probably looked to him for companionship and solidarity in her position as an NPC was just as broken as her. Knowing that he was not only okay, but also scouting out the other side to eventually destroy it with megabosses is something an overly positive outlook and inherent trust in people is not going to solve.
I mean, there's no way the Player is NOT telling the Associates what is happening. There's no way they aren't gonna see Riley and know they messed up by helping the Remnants. How could you tell someone with so much faith in you that you were tricked into helping people that wanted them dead, and that one of them was the very person she looked to for solace in her time of need? That is crushing for someone like Riley. Her trust, the one thing she gives to people unconditionally, was betrayed by one she considered a friend. This is not just treason.
It's warfare.

have you read the associate archie questline, then? /gen that was mainly where my question about hikari's knowledge on the "traitor" stemmed from, along with your comment about how "if npcs were rude the traitor subplot and hikari would be different"
(which... also confuses me... so another question, what makes you say that the traitor subplot could have been more effective if npcs could be actually 'mean'?)

It is likely that I have not. Most of these questlines are stuff I am reading now. Like I stated before, not the best writer to come to because I have been left out of the writing loop.
I don't know if you noticed, but the NPCs are never really negative towards a player. They tend to he neutral at most. This is kinda a rule we have to go by. Don't know why myself, as the ability to hate and be outward with it makes them seem more human. It shows they have preferences. They have beliefs and morals. It means they have the capability to be evil.
Then again, the idea of life coming from a computer and what makes a human 'human' is a neat concept to me. It's why Arc 1 of Ghost Simulator is one I am fond of and why I am not a huge fan of Arc 1's ending.
Hikari's original dialogue was having her straight-up chastise you for rebirthing. And if Spades was able to be upfront with you? I feel like he would call you an idiot for believing him.
They deserve to have the capability of bitterness and malice.
