Welcome to King Badgermole
Welcome to my blog! This is primarily an independent Wu (Legend of Korra) RP blog. My askbox is open, and I'm always ready to answer questions. Any in character posts will not have the "out of character" tag. The RP section of this blog is consistent with the canon of Duty's Promise, Heart's Oath (my Wuko fic series).
Additionally, I have a few projects on the go.

Much Ado About Baking with @kingwuko
Rating: MATURE
At Beifong's Artisan Oven, Mako is the lead baker and Wu is the lead cake decorator. Despite a few misunderstandings and a tendency to annoy one another, they might actually make a great couple—with a little meddling from their friends and family, that is.
This is my main blog, but my personal side blog can be found here: @theconsciousprince
Thank you!

Please enjoy this fanart of curly haired Wu reading Mako's palm! Scene from:
Duty's Promise by @kingbadgermole
Excerpt below:
“Ooh, how intriguing. Your fate line is all… Tangled?”
Mako's incredulous expression falls, nearly imperceptibly.
“No, no, not in a bad way—it’s just funky. You’ve had a hard past. It tangles down here, and branches off a few times, like you can’t quite figure out what you wanna do.” Wu can’t help the smile in his voice as he runs the pad of his thumb over the clear line in Mako’s palm. “Then it straightens out, huh? You’ll figure it out, and boy , figure it out you will. Look at this.”
Intrigue in his eyes, Mako leans forward, squinting to try and see what Wu’s getting at.
“You have this little Y-shape, right under your middle finger. Fate lines aren’t normally this long. You’re gonna be around a while, and the history books just won’t be able to forget your name. This, hah, this line, actually… It’s prominent in rulers? I thought I was supposed to be the king, big guy. Maybe you'll snatch Ol' Beifong's job. Chief Iwamatsu, huh? Imagine that!"
Apparently, it makes as little sense to Wu as it does to Mako. From the way they’re both hunched over Mako’s open palm, Mako’s close enough that Wu can trace the planes of his face. Wu’s confusion is reflected plainly in Mako’s reaction.
"Man. Your life, uh… Well, it sucks."
"Wow , thanks. That was so insightful—" Mako scoffs, shifting to try and pull his hand away. Wu tightens his grip and shoots back.
"Be quiet, will you, Mr. Sarcasmo? I'm not done! Your life line—in this chunk at the beginning, there's a bunch of stuff getting in the way. Talk about being the star pupil at the school of hard knocks. Brushes with death, losing it all, finding it again, but throughout… You never gave up. It'll pay off; about a third of the way through here, those breaks and branches stop and the line evens out. It's long, too. You're not done kicking, and won't be until you're a grizzled old man."
The confusion and apprehension in Mako's eyes shifts to something else. Something just as unreadable as his initial reaction. Is it amusement? His eyes are gleaming, fixated oddly on Wu. For some unknown reason, the eye contact feels like a tangible burn. Wu blushes and barks out a laugh to try and ease the apprehension.
“Woah, ka-ching! Ladies man alert! This is interesting, right here—your relationship lines are so deep I thought they were scars at first. Go figure, Mister Heartbreaker. Two are strong, but short, though, this third one… Is different. Spirits alive. It’s all choppy at the start, but right here, it hits its stride and looks deeper than the other ones. It starts here, and goes all the way over here. Third time’s the charm, I guess! Sounds like your next lady will be ‘The One’.”

wuko nation we are but a small fandom so it has been a moment since my first rec list but i wanted to give some well deserved attention to my three most recent favorite fics.
secret by sweetorangepoptart (our very own @kingwuko)
mako and wu find comfort in each other’s company following the events of guan’s election coup in gaoling. a secret relationship ensues.
duty's promise by theconsciousprince (@kingbadgermole here on tumblr)

regularly scheduled miracles by thesinginghoneybee (@starshinemaiden)
the thing about soulmates when you are a royal is that you don't get to keep them. wu's mother's was shipped to the outer Ring. his father's, never spoken of. his great aunt's was imprisoned if you believe the rumors. wu believes the rumors. and when wu becomes prince wu, heir to the earth throne, over night, his chances of finding and keeping his soulmate drop to zero. But despite that, when a soulmark appears on his arm the very evening of meeting his new, hot, firebending bodyguard, wu can't feel anything but joy. the thing about soulmarks when you have a job that frequently leaves you bruised to hell and back is that sometimes you don't notice them until days later and now you don't know who caused them to appear. and the thing about being prince wu's newest bodyguard is that mako has met so many people in the last week that his soulmate could be half of republic city. the other thing about being prince wu's newest bodyguard is that half of mako doesn't want to think too hard about his soulmate might be because there is no way someone like him would get so lucky as to have the next earth monarch as a soulmate no matter how lofty mako's taste in people runs.

Duty's Promise: Chapter Three!
Okay, so! I made a snap decision to break up what was originally going to be chapter three into two parts. It would have been a massive chapter (like pushing 10k) otherwise. Fair warning, this chapter is quite a bit heavier than the first two.. Take care of yourselves <3

Much Ado About Baking preview
The next chapter of mine and @kingbadgermole's collab fic, Much Ado About Baking, is nearly finished. Thought I'd give you a little preview of what's to come!
“Wu.” His mother says firmly. “Trust yourself. You can handle this.”
Wu looks at his mother with gratitude. He doesn’t normally trust himself, but it’s hard not to when his mother is so sure of him.
“Thanks, Ma. Love you.” He leans in and gives her a peck on the cheek.
“I love you too, son.” She gives his shoulder a reassuring squeeze as he swings himself out of the passenger seat. He closes the door, and suddenly the window rolls down.
“Oh, and—” Wu’s mother adds, leaning toward the passenger side to say, “Good luck with that boy.”
“Ma!” Wu shrieks, mortified, “I’m not even going to—”
But, before he can finish, she’s devolved into warm laughter, and is peeling off down the street.
Wu—now flustered by both his tardiness and his mother’s oh-so-helpful comment—hurries into the bakery. He clocks in and deposits his belongings down on the table near the decorator’s workstation. Jacket off, apron on. He grabs the morning’s orders, glancing over them as he formulates his plan for the day. No distractions!
Except—
Mako’s by the hearth, baker’s coat slung over his shoulder, and sleeves of his shirt underneath pushed up to his elbows. He’s intensely focused as he kneads the dough for fresh loaves, brow furrowed and lips pursed. Flour’s all over the front of his shirt, his shoulders are rolling with each push, defined muscles in his forearms—Wu tries very hard not to stare for longer than is acceptable.
“You’re later than usual,” Mako says without looking up.

The hate that Korra gets in comparison to Aang especially bothers me :(
For you LoK enjoyers out there, my DMs are open if you need to yell about the show! I'm always down to talk with fellow LoK brainrotters.
Man I really did not have a prompt to make this rant it’s just kinda been sitting in my head but…
I love LoK so so sooo much. But there is a problem with that.
The problem being, at least for me, it’s hard to indulge in it without frequently encountering hate and negative content in regards to it. Obviously she show isn’t perfect and I’m not talking about valid criticisms. I’m talking about the rabid hate this show gets for no reason other than people expected it to be more like AtLA and proceeded to watch that one unnecessarily popular video on YouTube. Y’all know the one.
It’s disheartening and exhausting to see when you’re just trying to enjoy a show and its content. If LoK had no connection to AtLA I guarantee there would not be near as much hate as it gets. But it does (which isn’t a problem, just to clarify), so nostalgia-fed bandwagon jumpers are so intent on kicking this show and its fandom when their down.
Even the Avatar YouTube channel is littered with this. They make LoK content on the channel at all and you have AtLA fans who aren’t needed there shitting on it in the comments. Like. Let people enjoy it. Let people like a show without your negativity clouding every corner of it.
You’re allowed to hate the show. I’m not the opinion police. But please, please try at least once to keep it to yourself in a space where it’s not even affecting you. In turn, people are allowed to like the show. I love the show. It’s my favorite show.
And sometimes I just want an environment without the negativity. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, but apparently, for some people, it is.
Also! If anyone is a fellow LoK enjoyer and wants to talk, pls dm! I’m in need of friends who are obsessed like I am :)

This will probably go unnoticed, but I just want to take a second to give a big thank you to all the fanfic authors out there.
I'm not sure if y'all are aware of how much of an impact you're making on peoples lifes.
Personally I struggle with a lot of things that I won't specify here, but fanfic is something I can escape to, even on the worst days.
So if any fanfic writers see this, this is a personal thank you note from me to you.
