Dear Rare Pair author!

First of all: Thank you so much for writing! I am pretty sure I will think whatever you write is awesome! Also thank you for taking the time to look through my letter, I know it isn’t what you would call succinct, but I really hope it might be of some help. The concrete suggestions I have for the pairings are not set in stone, but are just there to give you something to go on. I am really looking forward to see your fic :D

General preferences I would really prefer nothing too sad. I really don’t want (non-canonical) death fic, I can take angst but I don’t want entirely unhappy endings. And I am not fond of dark fic in general. Plot is more important to me than smut. I am not saying absolutely no smut, but I don’t want PWPs. And I would really prefer no underage smut, but aging up is totally ok! And I preferably don’t want stuff like outright D/s or omega verse. Don’t totally change the characters or put them in settings where they will be totally unrecognizable. If you can’t recognize a character in a fic if you change their name, odds are I will be a bit disappointed. That is also why I can be cautious about AU:s even though I am mostly positive towards them.

Community

Troy/Abed For me Troy and Abed one of the most beautiful thing with Community. I went in totally unprepared how hard they would hit me as a paring. I love how they met and how their friendship evolved and you will never in a million years convince me that there wasn’t love there. Troy started out as an insecure jock, Abed an observer of the world that didn’t really live in it and then they just found each other and it was beautiful… Just the way they related to each other and their comfort with being weird together and Troy’s massive protective streak hit every button I possibly had. And then Troy just leaves on a boat and gets kidnapped by pirates and Abed spends the rest of the series heart broken. No. Just no. What the hell. Donald Glover, stop having a damn career and come back and fix this!! And that is basically what I want from this paring. Some kind of after canon fix it fic. Or fic where everything is already fixed and just fluff. Or where it is already fixed and everything is pure crack. I am sort of flexible. Just you know, a fic that takes place after canon where they get to be happy eventually. And in love. Very in love. I can take fluff, crack angst but I really want a happy ending.

For specific ideas, I just want Troy off the damn boat, but if he comes back to Greendale or to LA or if Abed and the study group goes after him or he gets back on his own is totally up to you. I saw the idea somewhere that Troy spent his time stuck on an evil island like in Arrow and I would personally love a fic where that was true and the came back kind of like a super hero (possibly with a cracky twist). But I could also for example love fic where they just needs to learn to relate to each other again, since especially Troy has to have changed a lot. Because I am a terrible person I am partial to Abed angst, and Dan Harmon said Abed is still really furious over Troy leaving which is an angel I have never seen in fic, but like I said, I really need that happy ending.

If that doesn’t work for you I am open for stuff like AU:s too! I would like them to keep their personalities but both Troy and Abed seems to fit so well into other worlds for me, so I have no problem with that explored. Hell, this is one of the few fandoms where I probably shamelessly could enjoy a high school AU because how Troy and Abed would have interacted in high school fascinates me.

Jeff/Britta

I am one of the world’s most contrary shippers. In season one I had no interest whatsoever in Jeff and Britta, and sort of rolled my eyes a bit when their storyline showed up. Then the show basically refuted this whole “meant to be” thing and made them the world’s worst friends and that is when I sat up and went OMG SHIPPING. I love Jeff and Britta’s awkward and terrible and so, so great friendship and how they always snark each other. I really do think Britta was always the best at pulling Jeff up at his shit even as she is the worst. I love how it is obvious that they genuinely care about each other and are so comfortable together but still has this constant level of conflict. I think a great episode that show cases this is Mixology Certification. Jeff and Britta spend a whole episode arguing about which bar is cooler because they can (same bar and everything) and then they make out in the car. It is beautiful.

I am open for a lot of different Jeff and Britta fics, but I would really like if they were in the canon universe. On the other hand divergences are totally ok, for example Jeff still a lawyer and Britta an angry activist would be gold. I just want them to keep their push and pull kind of relationships and I would love if they tried to one up each other in some way or started fighting about something ridiculous (like if they decide to try some sort of sexy role playing but get stuck on arguing who actually would be best at being the sexy leather clad supervillain). I just want them to be the worst together in the best way. And maybe a hint of the whole “we utterly fail at being the Greendale parents” thing. I think I am mostly looking for a fic that is funny, and that maybe focuses more on the light hearted side more than the angst.

Natsume Yuujinchou

Matoba/Natori Matoba/Natori is a really strange paring for me, because they hardly have a moment together in canon. I don’t think they actually even meet in the anime. In the manga there is the brief hint that they were former friends and as grown-ups we see them hardened in different ways and in totally different places in life. So why the hell do I ship it?! It is just… the POTENTIAL. There are these small hints of a close friendship and the questions about what actually broke it, and both Matoba’s and Natori’s own brands of cynicism and bitterness could just tell such an interesting story. I can’t help wondering how much they helped shape each other. Sometime, somewhere something went wrong between them, and it is hard to believe that their clans was not in some way involved.

I am really curious what exactly happened between Natori and Matoba in canon considering the hints and I would love to see some sort of healing between them. I also have this feeling that both are really, really good at denying themselves things (quiet longing seems to be a skill every single character in the entire series is totally awesome at) so I must admit that some honest to God pining fic would be wonderful (I would be really happy for some resolution to it, but I actually could accept something slightly more wistful too). I would really be happy for any fic that take a deeper look at their characters and I wouldn't say no to something that actually allowed them to be happy. I would really like the fic to be at least fairly close to the canon universe (I want at least one of them to be an exorcist in some capacity), but I have no wishes about when it should be set (it can be the past, present or the future, it all works for me).

Teppu

Natsuo/Yuzuko I am often very simple in my shipping tastes. I love people with totally different personalities who find each other. I love parings who are constantly at each other’s throats competing. I love paring which in some way complete each other and gives each other some sort of new goal (riiiivals). I love parings where one person is an expert on driving the other nuts. And there you have Natsuo/Yuzuko in a nutshell. It is beautiful. Natsuo who is the heroine but also the evil rival with an appropriately woobie past (which actually feels pretty realistic and says some interesting things about being forced into gender roles), Yuzuko who seems so much like the classic shounen hero until the moment you realize that her total and happy devotion creep out basically every person she has ever met. And then you put them in the ring together and draw them dressed in wedding clothes. Thank you for that, Teppu! Seriously!

I would love both canon and AU fic of Natsuo/Yuzuko. If it is an AU I really want to still be themselves and in some sort of rivalry where Yuzuko is oblivious and dedicated and happy and Natsuo IS SO ANNOYED BY THAT, but otherwise I am pretty open for all worlds. If it is canon I would love if they maybe start training together properly (maybe after their match), or something similar. Or Yuzuko keeps seeking Natsuo out because she thinks they are friends, and Natsuo just wants to kick her in the face but doesn’t quite have enough skill yet, but might also possible like her. And they just wrestle a lot (you do that in MMA, okay!) When it comes down to it, though, anything with Natsuo and Yuzuko being epic rivals and also maybe being in love or falling in love or being in utter and complete denial of said love would make me ecstatic. Especially if Natsuo is the one in denial, because wow would she be. I could even take established fic when Natsuo (or maybe actually Yuzuko) tries to figure out how the heck this became her life.

Hunter x Hunter

Illumi/Hisoka I am trying to find words for Illumi and Hisoka which would make them fit in in a fest about ships and I am sort of coming up short. Because it isn’t like I can in any way fit them in with the words in love or romance or possibly even feelings? But yet I request them because they reach the height of their greatness together. They are very much each other’s opposites, Hisoka does basically everything on a whim and at his own pleasure, Illumi is pragmatic to the extreme and dedicated to his family (a little too dedicated to some parts of it). But they also have some things in common like the fact that they find murdering people very convenient. They are just these two absolutely awful people who for some reason became something remotely resembling friends and who possibly should have sex.

Like I said, I have a hard time picturing either Hisoka or Illumi doing anything romantic… no wait, I take that back, if you can imagine anything they would do which would fit their characters and which either of them would consider romantic I would absolutely love to read that. I mean, I can’t actually imagine the horror of what that must be and I assume it includes dead people and the tears of children somehow, but I would absolutely love to see it regardless. Actually, as long as Illumi and Hisoka keeps being terrible I am happy to read just about anything about them. How they met? Future fic? Even AU:s (though I would like to keep them as some kind of murderers, they wouldn’t quite be the same without blood on their hands… and God knows where else Hisoka would chose to have blood). If you want to throw in other characters I am totally ok with that, especially Gon and Killua and their reaction to the whole thing (though if you want to include anything with Gon and Killua dating please make them older). Just about everything could make me happy.

Ging/Pariston If this has not yet become apparent, there is a theme in my HxH ships. Mainly that they consist of awful people. Ging and Pariston cheerfully continues that trend. As anyone who has ever gotten anywhere in HxH knows, Ging is kind of a jerk. And with kind of, I mean a total, utter selfish jerk and in the top 10 worst fathers ever. And in anime that competition is pretty stiff. Pariston is a sparkly schemer that rarely hates anyone but still has as a hobby to utterly crush people because of course he does. But Pariston does hate Ging. Oh, does he hate Ging. Some would see this as a sign of good taste, but I chose to interpret it as a great basis of true extremely destructive love. So far all Ging’s and Pariston’s interactions has consisted of glaring at each other, sparkling (ok that is mainly Pariston) and trying to outsmart each other. It is such a beautiful thing. It seems very, very rare for both of them to meet another person who holds so much of their attention, even if that attention is mostly utter loathing.

I seriously just want fic with them. You know, where they hate each other but still sort of date. Where they date and still spend an inordinate amount of time trying to outsmart each other, or to be fair, mostly Pariston scheming and Ging very annoyed seeing straight through it. I would love if the fic was in some way set in the hxh world, but other than that I am very flexible. Maybe they get to be examiners in the Hunter Exam and spend their time trying to one up each other instead of noticing the participants, maybe Pariston gate crashes Ging’s game and does something terrible with it. Maybe they do something totally different! I just want a relationship where murdering each other is a distinct possibility. And I would really enjoy especially Gon’s reaction to the whole thing.

Veronica Mars

Wallace/Mac Wallace and Mac are just so likable. I just find the characters so entirely nice and delightful and loyal so obviously I just want them to kiss already. They are both always instantly prepared to help their friends and, I think, both have a bit of a taste for adventure (you sort of have to if you are friends with Veronica Mars), though I think that Mac might be more prone to it than Wallace. It is also a paring that kind of snuck up on me. I wasn’t aware that I did ship it until I spent the movie instead of being focused on Veronica and Logan, just asking myself: Well what has Mac and Wallace been up to?! They seem close! They are adorable. MAYBE THEY ARE DATING IN SECRET. Or they should be! In the bare bones of it, Mac is an awesomely competent nerd girl and Wallace is the world’s nicest jock who is actually clever and together they really, really, really should fight crime, damn it.

I am not going to lie, if you gave me case fic and get together fic at the same time for Wallace/Mac I would seriously cry with joy. Especially if it is set after the show (but both before and after the movie is totally fine with me). Maybe they stumble on to something suspicious. Come on, Mac works at Kane industries, she has to be drowning in suspicious. And after the movie she actually work at Mars Investigations. Wallace only needs to be pulled in for the ride. Honestly, though, there is a lot with Mac and Wallace that could be written that would make me so happy. Just cute fic, or maybe canon divergence, for example how they met if Veronica hadn’t been involved? How would their interactions go? Or the other way around, a fic from Veronica’s POV on their relationship. I would even go for an AU of some kind, but I think I would like to keep the whole jock/computer genius nerd aspect of them if so.

Leverage

Sophie/Nate/Sterling You know those things you had no idea you wanted until you happen to look through the tag set of a rare pair fest and thought “Holy shit”. Yeah. Nate and Sophie’s relationship was really one of those things that grew on me more and more as the show went along. I started out hesitant both to them as a couple and to Nate to be honest, but by the last episode I loved them unreservedly together. I love that Nate is the shows mastermind but still is constantly kept on his toes in his and Sophie’s interactions. I love that Sophie is genuinely in love with him but still is entirely pragmatic about manipulating the shit out of him. And then there is Sterling that shows up as a rouge element and basically makes everybody want to punch him in the face. All this is showcased spectacularly in for example "The Frame Up Job" which include some of the best interaction for the three of them in the show and which I now realized should have ended in really hot sex or at least a decent three-way make out.

As for fic: Just give me anything basically. My only two sticking points would be 1. Needs to include humor. 2. Needs to take place in the Leverage universe. Other than that you can go wild as far as I am concerned, because I’m sold. I would love, love, love to know how they got together. My first thought would simply be that it was Sophie that maneuvered it, because she shines in regards to things like that, but Sophie also wants to punch Sterling in the face so if she was the mastermind I would love to see how she got from point A to point B. Or was it totally unplanned for all three of them? Was it sex pollen? I can totally accept the existence of sex pollen in the Leverage world if it gets me Sophie/Nate/Sterling. Though I must admit that I would be more interested in the emotional fallout than the smut. Does it happen after canon when Sterling fails at leaving Sophie and Nate alone? Or during canon? So many options!

Or if you don’t want to write get-together, I would for example adore fic where the rest of the Leverage crew found out about the dating Sterling part. I imagine this would be a tad bit surprising for them at first and might not go down entirely well. Or just fic where the three of them spend all their time bickering. Or whatever else you can think of! I just need this in my life!
