They pretty much build a small city's worth of stages, tents, and other facilities to handle the estimated 80k people that show up each year in a town of 1500 . . . the countryside looks like upstate New York, and it's really a small cow town. ⏱ Another week gone by . . . are you kidding me? It's throwback Thursday/flashback Friday once again, friends! This time, we’re throwing it waaaayyyy back . . . to a studio called Steve Lawson Studios in Seattle, were I worked with Producer Terry Date (Soundgarden, Limp Bizkit, Deftones) on albums like Fifth Angel, Chastain and some others. ▶️ Here’s some fun trivia related to this photo: 1️⃣This is the @pearl_drums kit I used on my first @realalicecooper tour, “The Nightmare Returns” 💀 2️⃣The cymbals are that high up so they do not “bleed” as much into the tom mics, which is a trick I learned from Producer Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Van Halen) 3️⃣This studio was later purchased by members of the iconic Seattle band Heart and became Bad Animals, which still exists there today 4️⃣I believe this is a Chastain album I am recording, but I can’t be positive. I asked the photographer Joe Giron, and it’s so long ago neither of us could remember, lol, and finally 5️⃣ it’s not my beer in the photo. I tried drinking and drumming one time when I was a teenager. Once. It was horrible; much like trying to play drums underwater. So take notes kids; don’t drink and drive or drink and drum. Northern Light Orchestra begins new Christmas album for release in November 2017, "Star of the East." We've begun the tracking for the new Northern Light Orchestra album "Star of the East," which will be the first new full length album from the band in 3 years. Some amazing players will be performing on this album, including the amazing (and Grammy award winning) bassist David Ellefson from the multi-platinum band Megadeth. RAISE YOUR FIST AND YELL!! ✊🏻 Here is another record I really enjoyed playing on. These photos are from my personal collection. I really don’t have too many photos from recording this album, but I do have some of my memory intact about some of the process of the making of this record, lol. When you are in the middle of working to get some serious music made, photos are distracting and about the last thing on your mind. Plus, we didn’t have our iPhones to snap shots every half of a millisecond for Instagram or Facebook, or, well you get the idea. 🙂 One shot is where we tracked drums at Amigo Recording Studios in LA. Instead of using the drum tracking room which was smaller, we moved into their adjoining warehouse and ran the mics and cables via snake over there. This allowed us to capture a larger room sound. We also communicated via mics and video screens, since I was far away from the control room. Good afternoon and happy (hopefully it's happy) Monday!

This is a short video from a couple years ago, My friend Randy Walker (Drum Tech with Ted Nugent) filmed this, while we were tracking drums at my studio, SonicPhish Productions. It was for radio personality Mike Gaube's Headbangers. The track features friends David Ellefson (Megadeth) on bass, along with Wild Mick Brown on drums as well.

#TBT House of Lords - Sahara This is one of the records that I had the most fun playing on and recording. We did this one "old school," where 5 guys get in a rehearsal room and actually jam out song ideas, demo them up, and THEN make a record. (Crazy concept, right?) The process was a fun one for sure, and we had an old Akai 12 track recorder that used these funky tapes that were very similar to video tapes to record all our ideas on. The technology was actually getting usable, as the song "Can't Find My Way Home" was actually our 12 track demo transferred to a 32 track digital machine, the drums and bass re-recorded, and then mixed on an SSL. That was our highest charting song, and proved to me that you can make a great record without spending $230k. (Well, we did spend 230k on this one anyway, lol.) We were able to get creative, and Gene Simmons encouraged us to let loose a little bit on songs like Kiss of Fire. He used to call it a "vulgar display of power." Haha. #FlashBackFriday!....sort of . . .It's more of a Flash Back and Flash Forward all at the same time. 🚀 The band I began playing in when I was a kid in Bellevue, Washington will be performing in Seattle on April 22nd. 🥁The last time we all worked together was on the Fifth Angel “Time Will Tell” album in New York City in 1988. The album was released on Epic Records that same year and did very well in Europe. 😎 As a rule, with the neo-classical metal sound of Fifth Angel, the band always seemed to do much better overseas, although that album did have a song called Midnight Love that became Howard Stern’s theme song for his international radio show for over four years. 📻#FifthAngel actually did make quite an impact, and still has a very devoted fan following in Europe. There was also a display in the Experience Music Project in Seattle listing FA as one of the forefathers of the Seattle metal scene that included Queensryche, Metal Church, and of course later on grunge bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. 🎸This will be a fun time seeing some great friends, playing with some amazing musicians, and going back . . . back to the future! 🚀 Lol!
