The Assassin and the Fox Pt 4
Here is the next part. Thank you for reading! Kiriko will make a re-appearance soon!
Warnings: Slight Violence, Language (two of them one is in spanish), Slightly Non-Canon, Slightly OOC
One year turned to two and two years slowly trickled into five. Y/N found life with Angela and Pharah comforting and her new normal. For the first three years, she spent every morning running with Pharah and the rest of the day was filled with learning from the women. They taught her everything they could and even showed her how to have fun. It stayed strange for a long while, but Y/N had slowly become accustomed to it. She learned chess, checkers, poker (much to Angela’s dismay), and mahjong. They taught her how to knit and paint, giving her an outlet when she didn’t feel like working out. Her favorite thing to learn had been carving. Pharah had taken the time to teach her, and their home was filled with her work. It was perfect…too perfect. Y/N should’ve seen things coming to an end.
After three years, Lena and Emily had left. They had returned to their London flat. Then a year later, Pharah had gone to Egypt. Y/N remembered losing the Egyptian, seeing the sorrow in her eyes and the almost empty look in Angela’s. Their little family had been broken apart and Y/N had stuck close to Angela. But even that had ended. Shortly after this, Angela had taken her to Greenland. There, Y/N was re-introduced to Reinhardt and introduced to his goddaughter, Brigitte. The brunette was kind to her while the crusader was hesitant. Somehow, Angela had convinced them to care for Y/N while she went on her own mission. A mission to fix what they had when she was a part of Overwatch. Y/N had been furious with Angela. Hurt that the woman would leave her behind like the others. Angela had sworn to her to return by the end of the year, promising to call her every morning and every night. It wasn’t like Y/N had a choice. She wouldn’t be childish and keep Angela from pursuing her mission. Her heart hurt from being left behind again.
Now, it had been a total of five years since she had left Talon. Five years since Overwatch had disbanded. She was eighteen now. Y/N had grown much in that time and her muscles were more defined. Her body lacked the rigorous training of Talon and favored the different training that Reinhardt and Brigitte put her through. The squire had designed a shield for her that was similar to her own. Reinhardt had personally helped her learn to wield it and Y/N had found herself looking up to the man. After getting to know her, they had cared for her like their own. Y/N enjoyed being with them and the emptiness that had been left felt smaller.
Y/N kicked a pebble as she walked through the collapsed castle of Eichenwald, searching for the duo. They had dragged her to Germany in a hurry and hadn’t told her why. This place smelled musty and dusty.
“You owe them nothing,” Brigitte sighed. Y/N used her powers, using the shadows of the castle to move closer to the woman’s voice. She had gotten a stronger control of her powers after honing it for five years. She saw Reinhardt standing before the corpse of his friend. The armor that sat upon the throne.
“I have been called. I must answer. Always,” Reinhardt spoke. He turned, giving the shorter woman a soft smile. “I will go to them.”
Brigitte shook her head at that. “I won’t be able to change your mind, will I?”
“No,” Reinhardt answered. Brigitte sighed and placed her hands on her hips.
“What about Y/N? We told Angela that we’d care for her.”
“We shall take her with us,” Reinhardt answered. He turned and looked right where she was hiding. “I’m sure the child misses her family.”
Y/N huffed and stepped out of the shadows, earning a chuckle from the large man.
“Your powers are impressive.”
“Thanks…where are we going?”
“Paris.”
In Paris, Y/N moved in the shadows, stopping Omnics that threatened to hurt the civilians. Reinhardt and Brigitte had entrusted her with saving who she could while they went to fight the larger Omnic that was threatening to blow up the city. Her panther form made it easy to weave between the machines and she shifted between her forms to slice through them. With the control of her shadows, she had been able to create a powerful sword. It was a fine sword made of hardened shadows, making the blade black as the night. It cleaved through her targets and made it easy to fight. The armor she wore protected her, along with the shield she now carried. Granted, she still felt the sting of the Omnic’s weapons. A particular shot grazed her neck and she had to make her sword disappear to pull out her gun, shooting it between the eyes. Luckily the shot had grazed her and not worse.
The ground shook as something large fell and she watched as the omnics retreated. Good. She took to her panther form, running through the streets and to where she had last seen the monstrous omnic. The closer she got, the more she smelled. Brigitte and Reinhardt’s smells were that of oil and fuel. The others were foreign to her, except for two. Apples and fresh rain.
“Look how big you’ve gotten!” Lena exclaimed. Y/N slid to a stop, sticking to the shadows, and allowing it to conceal her. Lena was hugging Brigitte tightly and Reinhardt was speaking with a short woman, a gorilla, and a machine looking thing. She narrowed her eyes at the sight of Genji, wondering when he had left Japan. As her gaze traveled, she saw the familiar blonde hair of Angela. The doctor was dressed in her suit. The suit that made her look like an angel. She was leaning heavily against the healing staff in her hands, worriedly looking around them.
“If you’re here, where’s Y/N?” Angela questioned. Reinhardt looked down at her and shrugged.
“She is here…but I assume if she hasn’t come to greet you, then she doesn’t want to see you yet,” Reinhardt answered.
Brigitte huffed and crossed her arms. “Not that you can blame her. She was left with us against her wishes.”
“Brigette,” Reinhardt warned. His goddaughter looked towards her, and she wondered if the woman could see her. There was a slight chance, but she was hiding well. Angela sighed and pushed her hair out of her face.
“R-right. Is she…how is she?”
“My friend let’s go for a walk. There’s another transmission coming from Rio, and we should hurry to that location,” Reinhardt spoke, placing his hand on her shoulder and guiding her away. As their figures got smaller, Brigitte turned.
“You can come out now!” Brigitte shouted. Lena practically buzzed beside her as Y/N slowly emerged from the shadows, returning to her human form. The newbies she didn’t recognize pointed their weapons at her and the squire quickly held up her hands. “She’s a friend!”
Lena zipped to her and wrapped her arms around her, spinning her around in a circle. “Kitten! I can’t believe you’re here!”
“Lena, put me down this instant!” Y/N protested. The speedster put her down, only to grab her face in her hands. They tenderly moved her head from side to side with a blinding smile on her face.
“Look at you. You’ve grown into a fine woman,” Lena complimented. Y/N blushed and pulled her face away. “Why didn’t you come out sooner?”
“I wasn’t ready to see her.”
“Why not?”
“I wouldn’t have come out either. Specially since she left her behind,” Brigitte huffed. Lena gave her a pointed look which the taller woman returned. “What? I’m not wrong. It wasn’t right for Dr. Ziegler to leave her.”
Y/N stuffed her hands in her pockets, choosing to look away. Brigitte wasn’t wrong. She wanted to see Angela, but she didn’t know what to say. She spoke to her almost every day up until the recall. After that, radio silence for a week. A throat cleared, making them turn.
“Sorry to interrupt, but who’s this?” the gorilla asked. Y/N knew who he was. Winston. She’d read his file before going after Angela. The gorilla hadn’t been there when she had gotten captured. Brigitte draped her arm over her shoulder.
“This is Y/N.”
“The Y/N? As in the Talon agent?”
“Former Talon agent,” Brigette countered. Y/N wasn’t sure about that. She hadn’t official left the organization, but she wasn’t working for them either. A short, Asian woman approached her and held out her hand.
“I’m Mei! Pleasure to meet you!” Mei beamed. Y/N took her hand, shaking it softly as she did. Genji approached next and inclined his head to her.
“I am surprised you are still with them. I had thought you’d leave by now,” Genji remarked. Y/N shrugged and rubbed at the back of her neck. She didn’t want to talk to them. “You might want to get that wound checked.”
“Turn around,” Brigitte ordered. Y/N did so, and the woman inspected the bullet wound. She hummed and pulled out a bandage, wrapping her neck. “Do you want a med pack instead?”
“No. It’s fine.”
“Do you want to take my ship to Rio? We don’t have to go with the team’s ship if you don’t want to see Dr. Ziegler.”
“Yeah, that’s fine with me. We should hurry though.”
The others went in a different direction as Brigitte led the way to the ship they had taken here. Y/N felt uncertain about what was to come. She made up her mind to decide what she’d do by the time they finished this whole ordeal.
Point of View Change, Gibraltar
Angela felt the exhaustion of the last few days in her bones. It felt like she was moving in slow motion and all she wanted to do was sleep. Sleep sounded wonderful, but being here was also wonderful. They were in Gibraltar. This wasn’t the same as their base in the mountains, but it was still a base. It was an Overwatch base, and her team could meet here. They could all come together once more and fight for what they believed in. Her eyes fell on Pharah, watching as she conversed with Lena. It had been three months since she had seen the woman. They had met up in Egypt after Angela had been called there to help. Things were tense between them, but Angela was happy to see her.
“Put me down!” Y/N’s voice echoed. Angela whirled, seeing Brigitte approaching her with Y/N on her shoulder. The teen was kicking her legs as she tried to free herself. “I will bite you!”
“Then do it. You need medical help and if you won’t let me do it, then I’ll take you to someone who will,” Brigitte huffed. She shifted Y/N on her shoulder and the teen yelped, turning as she did. The brunette was forced to drop Y/N as the teen took to her panther form.
“What in the world?!” Cassidy exclaimed. Angela heard him pull his weapon out and she moved. She stepped between the team and the hissing panther.
“Don’t shoot!” Angela shouted. Pharah and Brigitte rushed to her side, further blocking any of the others from possibly shooting Y/N. They were not going to hurt her. “She’s not a threat.”
“She just turned into a giant cat!” Cassidy shouted.
“Panther,” Pharah corrected. Echo and Hana were still tense, even those who had known Y/N when she was a captive were tense. They hadn’t seen the teen in five years. Reinhardt approached, placing himself between them. His large form stood between them and the raised weapons.
“Put your weapons down. She is not a threat,” Reinhardt ordered. The others lowered their weapons and Angela sighed. Good. She turned, seeing the pain on Y/N’s face. The panther had her teeth bared at them in warning.
“It’s alright. They won’t hurt you. Will you shift back?”
Y/N responded with a growl and Pharah knelt before her.
“None of that. If you’re hurt, then shift back. Don’t growl at us,” Pharah chastised, reaching out to touch the teen. Y/N hissed and backed away, making Pharah retract her hand. Angela knelt and Y/N looked at her. There was uncertainty in her Y/E/C eyes. That was the same look she had gotten when they had first met.
“Let us help you. Please?” Angela softly begged. Y/N shook her head, backing away slightly.
“Now this is a pleasant surprise. I never thought I’d see you here,” Baptiste spoke. Y/N’s ears perked and she lifted her head, looking at the man. “Hey there kiddo.”
Baptiste knelt with them, holding out his hand. Y/N pressed her head against his palm, purring softly as she did. “I’m happy to see you too. Can you shift back so we can look at your wounds?”
Y/N glanced at the others and her ears flattened.
“I can send them away, so they don’t see you hurt,” Angela offered. Y/N nodded, and they stood. “Alright. Winston?”
“We’ll meet you in the command center. Take your time,” Winston spoke. Angela watched the others leave and relaxed when it was just herself, Pharah, and Baptiste. She turned and smiled at Y/N.
“Better?” Angela asked. Y/N huffed and shifted back, falling on her butt as she did. Her face was scrunched in pain, and she had her arms wrapped around her torso.
“What happened?” Baptiste asked.
“Stupid guns. They broke through my armor,” Y/N grunted. Pharah reached down, helping Y/N stand. The teen hobbled over to the nearest crate and the Egyptian helped her sit on it. Angela used her staff, healing the teen. She sighed in relief and Pharah held out her hand.
“May I see your bracelets?” Pharah asked. Y/N pulled them from her wrists and handed them to the woman. She kept her eyes on the ground as she did, not looking up at her. “I’ll have Winston and Hana look at these. Perhaps they could make your armor sturdier.”
Y/N merely nodded, and Pharah looked back at her with sad, brown eyes. Angela shook her head, stepping closer to the teen.
“Are you still in pain?” Angela asked. Y/N shrugged, and Baptiste sighed.
“You’re going to have to answer them kiddo,” Baptiste spoke. He reached out, patting her shoulder. “I’ll go get you something to drink.”
Baptiste walked away and Angela lowered her staff. Her healing stopped and she leaned her staff against the crate. She carefully reached out, cupping the teen’s face. She lifted her face and met Y/E/C eyes.
“How have you grown this much in a year?” Angela softly asked. Y/N’s eyes filled with tears, and she surged forward, wrapping her arms around her torso. The teen buried her head against her chest and Angela held her tightly as she cried against her. “It’s alright. I’ve got you.”
“Y-you left me.”
“I know…and I am so, so sorry for that. I shouldn’t have done that to you,” Angela apologized. She moved her hand in a soothing manner along her back and felt the shaking that was coming from Y/N. “I’m sorry. I’ve been a terrible mother to you.”
Angela looked up, seeing Pharah watching them with a sad smile. She held out her hand to her and the woman shook her head, taking a step away. The blonde frowned at her as she turned, walking away from them. Angela would need to talk to her after she had made sure Y/N was alright. Speaking of, Y/N was tiredly leaning against her and Angela maneuvered them to sit on the ground. She leaned against the crate with Y/N resting against her chest. “What’re you thinking right now?”
“I…I’m mad at you.”
“I can hardly blame you. I left you behind after I had promised to never leave you.”
“I understood why you left. You wanted to make a difference in the world. Fix the things you had done wrong…I can’t be mad at you for that.”
“Then why are you mad?”
Y/N tilted her head, looking up at her with pained eyes. “I’m mad that you didn’t take me with you. Why didn’t you take me? Did you not want me anymore?”
“No, my little cub. I will always want you,” Angela quickly countered, brushing a tear from her cheek. “I didn’t take you with me because I thought it would be better for you to stay in one place. I wanted you to have stability and safety, so I left you with the strongest man I know. The shield of Overwatch. I knew he’d keep you safe…granted, I did not account for him teaching you how to wield a shield yourself.”
Y/N smiled up at her. “I begged him to let me try. Brigitte made me the shield and he caved.”
“I’d like to see you use it. I’m sure you are very talented,” Angela beamed, kissing her forehead softly. “I am sorry that I left you. I will do anything for you to forgive me. Even if it takes me years, I will make up for it.”
“You can start by making me blueberry muffins.”
Angela chuckled and poked her stomach, making her giggle. “You and that appetite. Fine, I will cook you all the muffins you can eat.”
Y/N sighed in relief, looking at the healing staff. “Did you figure out what you needed?”
“More or less. I can make a bigger change now that Overwatch is back.”
“Good. The world needs Dr. Angela Ziegler…do you think they’ll let me join Overwatch?” Y/N asked. Angela’s eyes widened at that. Join Overwatch? Did she really want to do that?
“You want to join?”
“I do. I-I have a lot to make up for. If I can do that by working beside you, then I want to do that.”
“Then I will talk to the others,” Angela spoke. Y/N rested her head back against her chest, sighing in comfort as she did. They stayed like that for a time and Angela’s legs began to go numb. This position was not comfortable on the ground.
“Hey kiddo? Did you finally talk to Dr. Ziegler?” Baptiste asked. Angela looked to the medic, watching him approach with a water bottle. He tossed it at them, and Y/N easily caught it.
“I did. When did you leave Talon?”
“Shortly after Sombra returned without you. I wasn’t going to stay there if you weren’t there.”
“Then you joined Overwatch?”
“I actually traveled as a mercenary for a bit. Found myself joining a certain Egyptian who convinced me to join her cause,” Baptiste answered. Y/N moved away, sniffing the air and looking around.
“She walked off a bit ago,” Angela softly spoke. Y/N turned to look at her with confusion in her eyes.
“Why did she walk away without saying anything?” Y/N asked. Angela sighed and cupped Y/N’s face, running her thumb along the scar that ran across her eye.
“I don’t want to put words in her mouth.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means, let’s go find her and talk to her,” Angela smiled. Y/N returned it and stood, holding out her hand to help her up. Once on her feet, Y/N stepped closer to her, sticking close to her side. The clinginess was new. “Baptiste? I trust you’ll tell the others that I am unavailable at the moment?”
“Can do, Doc. Y/N, stay out of trouble!” Baptiste chuckled. Y/N grumbled under her breath at his comment and Angela gently pressed against her back with her hand. The teen looked up at her with quirked head.
“Can you follow her scent?” Angela asked. Y/N smiled brightly at her question and shifted. Her panther form pressed against her leg and Angela ran her fingers through her fur. She was much larger than when she had left her a year ago. “Did you have a growth spurt? You weren’t this big before I left.”
Y/N huffed and jutted her head towards the exit. Angela chuckled and waved her hand, gesturing for the teen to lead the way. She sniffed the ground before trotting ahead. The two of them made their way through the base, heading towards the lab. Angela dutifully followed her and inclined her head to Lena. The speedster patted Y/N’s head before zipping away, earning a growl of annoyance. Her muscles bunched and she looked like she was ready to chase after the speedster.
“Now, now. Focus on finding Pharah,” Angela redirected. Y/N glanced back at her with an unimpressed look before continuing on. They walked to the lab and Angela opened the door for the teen. Y/N charged through the door and Angela heard Pharah’s exclamation of alarm. Looking towards the middle of the room, she saw Y/N take the woman to the ground. Pharah hit the ground with a grunt as Y/N pressed her face against her own.
“Get off! You’re heavy!” Pharah exclaimed, pushing at Y/N’s face. The teen used her paw, smacking it against the woman’s face. “Hey!”
Angela chuckled and walked to the heap on the ground. “Y/N, you’re being a tad too rough with Pharah.”
Pharah looked up at her with pleading eyes. “Help?”
“You are on your own here. You walked away without properly greeting her,” Angela chuckled. Y/N huffed and plopped her body fully down onto the woman, making her grunt. She sighed, running her fingers through her fur. Y/N purred in response at the action.
“Yeah, yeah, okay. I missed you too…will you get off me?” Pharah asked. Y/N huffed and the woman below her groaned. “It’d be nice to hug you when you aren’t crushing me.”
Y/N grumbled and shifted back, wrapping her arms around Pharah. Pharah eagerly reciprocated the hug and kissed the top of her head. “You left.”
“I’m sorry. I wanted to give you and Angela a moment together.”
“No. You left.”
Angela met Pharah’s gaze and the Egyptian sat up, holding Y/N against her. She looked so much smaller in the woman’s arms.
“Habibi—”
“Why did you leave?”
“I had gotten word that my mother had been killed. I had to see if that was true.”
“Was it?”
“No. That old woman is too stubborn to die,” Pharah scoffed and pulled away slightly, resting her forehead on Y/N’s. “I left to find her, and I am sorry for that.”
“You shouldn’t be sorry for that,” Y/N argued. Pharah shook her head, cupping her cheek softly.
“I am sorry. I left you and Angela. By leaving, Angela ended up leaving. I am so sorry that I left,” Pharah apologized. Y/N hugged her, similar to the way she had held onto Angela.
“You owe me runs every morning and afternoon for the next two years,” Y/N mumbled. Angela giggled and Pharah chuckled.
“Sounds like a fair deal,” Pharah murmured, glancing up at Angela. She held out her hand and the blonde went to her side, taking that calloused one in her own. She brought her free hand to Y/N’s head, running her fingers through her Y/H/C hair. There were still things they needed to fix. Pharah and her were still arguing. Still not at terms with how they had left things when Pharah left. They would need to figure things out, but that would need to wait. For now, their focus would need to be on Y/N. They needed to make things up to the teen.
A Few Mornings Later, Point of View Change, Y/N
Y/N felt the comfortable strain on her muscles as she ran, taking in fresh air around her. Gibraltar was nice in the fact that they were outside and away from nosey outsiders. She could run for as long as she wanted and could shift if she chose to. Granted, it wasn’t as nice as their old home. She hoped they could go back there at some point.
“Can you slow down?!” Pharah shouted. Y/N glanced over her shoulder, seeing the Egyptian lagging behind.
“Are you sure you aren’t out of shape?”
“We’ve been running for two hours! I am tired!” Pharah exclaimed. Y/N giggled and slowed her run to a walk. She waited for Pharah to catch up to her, seeing the unimpressed look on her face.
“Slow enough?” Y/N teased.
Pharah scoffed and ruffled her hair. “Cheeky little cat. Respect your elders.”
Y/N swatted her hand away with a smile. “You aren’t that old.”
“Tell that to my aching legs,” Pharah countered. The two of them headed back to the base and Y/N kicked pebbles that were in her path. “When we get back to base, we can eat then take a shower. There’s a meeting in the afternoon.”
“What’s the meeting about?”
“We can talk about it while we eat,” Pharah answered. Y/N frowned at that answer. It must be something important if Pharah wouldn’t talk about it out here. The taller woman sighed, bumping her shoulder against her. “Hey, don’t worry too much.”
“Hard not to with everything going on,” Y/N mumbled. She looked up at the woman, seeing the concern in her brown eyes. “Why are you and Angela fighting?”
The concern shifted to pain and Pharah scratched the back of her head. “It’s grown-up things, Habibi.”
“I’m a grown up now. Eighteen, remember?”
“Right…it’s still complicated.”
“Why?”
Pharah smiled and patted her head. “Never lose that curiosity, Habibi.”
“Curiosity killed the cat though,” Y/N argued. Pharah tilted her head back and laughed, making Y/N frown. “What?”
“Who taught you that phrase?”
“Brigitte.”
“Well, the little shield wielder was teasing you for your curiosity.”
“Oh,” Y/N spoke. She thought it was a strange phrase, but the brunette hadn’t explained it to her, and Reinhardt had merely laughed. “So, I can be curious?”
“Curiosity is what helps our world grow. If you weren’t curious, then you wouldn’t find new things. You certainly wouldn’t have met Kiriko,” Pharah answered, stopping outside the base doors. “And you certainly wouldn’t have found your way here.”
Y/N hummed and followed the woman inside, heading for the barracks. They had an apartment type room, with a kitchen and three rooms. There were two bathrooms with showers as well. She could stay close to the women while still having privacy. “Do you think Angela will stay upset with you?”
“I hope not.”
“Then you should apologize to her.”
“I’ve tried that. It’s not as easy as it sounds,” Pharah sighed, pushing open the door. The smells of the kitchen wafted to Y/N’s nose, and she hummed. That was an amazing smell.
“What’s not as easy as it sounds?” Angela questioned from the stove. She turned with a plate of bacon, making Y/N’s mouth water. She hurried to the blonde and reached to grab a piece, only for the woman to hold it above her head. “Not happening cub. Go sit down at the table.”
“Kill joy,” Y/N grumbled, heading to the table.
“Would you like any help?” Pharah whispered.
“I am done. But you can clean the dishes,” Angela whispered in return. Y/N sat at the table and crossed her arms. She hated that she could hear their hushed conversations. Hated that she could hear that they were trying to keep their issues to themselves. It was hard listening to them talk to each other like they were strangers. Angela walked over to her, placing the plate of food on the center of the table. Y/N took in the other foods there, seeing the eggs, potatoes, and something she didn’t recognize. She reached for the sticky looking bread and poked it.
“What’s this?” Y/N asked. Angela picked up the bread and placed it on the smaller plate in front of her.
“It’s called a cinnamon roll,” Angela answered. She took her seat beside her, and Pharah sat down across from her, sipping at her coffee.
“Like Pharah?” Y/N questioned. Pharah choked on her coffee while Angela merely raised an eyebrow at her. “I said something stupid…didn’t I?”
Angela chuckled and handed the coughing woman a napkin. “Who said that Pharah was a cinnamon roll?”
“Lena,” Y/N answered. She took a bite of the roll and hummed. That was sweet. “Does she call you a cinnamon roll because you are sweet?”
“I’m going to strangle her,” Pharah grumbled, placing her mug on the table. Y/N glanced up, seeing the faint blush on the darker woman’s complexion. “They need to stop teaching you these things.”
Y/N shrugged and ate the rest of the cinnamon roll. Angela hummed in thought, picking up her own cup of coffee.
“I don’t think they are lying about calling you a cinnamon roll,” Angela hummed. Pharah looked at the blonde in confusion and Y/N looked at her as well.
“I am not a cinnamon roll.”
“I don’t know. You might look tough, but you’re a softie,” Angela teased. Pharah’s mouth fell open and Y/N laughed. She laughed so hard that her eyes closed.
“I’m glad you’re enjoying this,” Pharah huffed. Even with her eyes closed, Y/N could tell that the woman was smiling. She could hear Angela giggling softly and there was a lightness in the air that hadn’t been there in a few days. It was a lightness that was there when they all lived together in that farmhouse. She had missed this softness.
The next morning, Y/N found herself sitting on a plane, heading to Peru. Pharah, Angela, Lena, Brigitte, Vivian (Sojourn), and Zarya were also on the plane with her. They were heading there to find some woman who could harness the Sun. Why? Because Talon wanted her. At least, that’s what the intel said. Y/N was supposed to stay at the base, but she had argued with them. She didn’t want to stay behind and leave her family’s side.
They had left shortly after the meeting and had flown through the night, giving them some time to rest on the way there. Now, they were approaching Peru and the supposed temple where Illari was hiding at. The warrior had been on the move and was last seen heading there. Y/N adjusted the bracelets on her wrists and made sure the gauntlet on her non-dominant arm was in place. She needed to make sure her shield would be ready.
“Y/N?” Angela asked. Y/N lifted her head, seeing the blonde walking towards her.
“Yeah?”
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay with the ship?”
Y/N sighed and sat up straighter in her seat. “I am. You don’t have to worry so much. I’ll be fine.”
“I worry, because you are just as stubborn as Pharah,” Angela spoke, crossing her arms. She glanced at the cockpit with a worried frown. “I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“I’ll be careful. I won’t leave your side,” Y/N assured. Angela looked back at her and stepped closer, cupping her cheek softly. Y/N leaned into her touch, and she felt the way her hand shook.
“This could prove dangerous.”
“Fighting Null Sector was just as dangerous, and I was fine.”
“You were shot through your armor.”
“You healed me, and Pharah had my armor fixed. I’ll be fine,” Y/N argued. She smiled up at the woman, hoping it would ease her worry. “If you worry too much, you’ll tire yourself out.”
Angela chuckled and leaned forward, kissing her forehead. “I worry because I care.”
“I know,” Y/N smiled.
“Prepare for landing,” Vivian’s voice spoke. Angela patted her cheek before moving back to her seat. Y/N looked out the window, seeing the trees below them. Wow. That was an impressive jungle. She would have to explore a bit if they had the chance. She watched as their ship lowered and felt it touch the ground. “Prepare to move out in two.”
Y/N stood from her seat and hurried to Angela, who was standing beside Brigitte. The auburn-haired woman smiled at her before stepping in front of them. Zarya took point with Vivian standing behind her. Lena was there with Pharah. Their healers would stay in the back were they could be protected.
“Opening the door,” Vivian spoke. The rear door opened, and the ramp touched the grass below. They cautiously exited and took in their surroundings. Nothing but trees around them and a crumbling temple. Pharah used her raptor suit, taking to the sky to keep an eye on them from above and Y/N moved closer to Angela. They’d be fine. Zarya led them to the temple, and they dutifully followed the woman. They made it up the steps and into the building when Y/N heard a click. She growled in warning and the women stopped.
“And who might you all be?” a voice spoke. Y/N followed the voice, seeing a woman perched on a balcony that overlooked the entire ruins. The strands of gold in her hair reflected the Sun’s rays and her large weapon was poised to shoot.
“We are here to see the Sun warrior, Illari,” Zarya answered. The woman tightened her grip on her weapon and Y/N clenched her fists.
“You found her. What do you want?” Illari questioned. Vivian lowered her weapon and stepped forward.
“We are here to help. Have you heard of the organization, Talon?”
“Who hasn’t?”
“We have intel that they are coming for you.”
Illari met her gaze and Y/N could see the scrutiny that came from her brown eyes. “If I recall, that one there is a member of Talon.”
Angela stepped into her line of sight, blocking Y/N from view. “Former member of Talon. She left the organization.”
“I want to hear it from her, not from you lot,” Illari argued. Y/N stepped around the blonde and kept her hands at her side. She looked right at the warrior and met her gaze once more.
“I am not with Talon,” Y/N swore. She kept her gaze steady with Illari, hoping the woman believed her. Finally, the woman lowered he weapon.
“If I go with you, will I be bound to your cause?”
“Never. We just want to help you. You may leave when you wish,” Angela answered. Illari nodded and leaped from her perch, using some power to cushion her fall. Light? What was that?
“I will trust you for now,” Illari spoke. Y/N sighed in relief and flinched when the woman stopped before her. “You are a curious young one. What are you?”
“What are you? Can you really harness the Sun?”
“In a way, yes.”
“Why am I curious to you?”
Illari pointed at her own eyes. “Your eyes. They have an almost wildness to them.”
Y/N stepped back from the woman and moved back behind Angela. She wasn’t a fan of strangers. Illari motioned for them to follow.
“I must grab my things,” Illari spoke. The others nodded and Y/N followed them deeper into the falling apart temple. The ground beneath her feet was uneven and there was no draft. No airflow. All she could smell were the people around her and the dirty walls.
“What does your weapon do?” Lena asked.
“It fires shots that are amplified by the power of the Sun.”
“Neat.”
Y/N wondered how this woman got her powers. She didn’t seem that old. Maybe even her age or close to it. She watched the woman grab her backpack and slip her arms through the loops. Y/N felt a nagging feeling that was pulling at her instincts. A feeling that something was off. She pressed closer to Angela, struggling to keep herself from shifting.
“What’s wrong?” Angela whispered.
“Something doesn’t feel ri—”
The wall beside them exploded and Y/N called upon her shield to protect them. The debris bounced off the Y/F/C barrier and she heard the shouts of alarm from the others. They had been farther from the wall than they were. As the light seeped in, Y/N saw the large silhouette of a person standing in the opening. She heard the click of their weapon and her Y/E/C eyes widened.
“Back up!” Y/N shouted. Machine gun fire slammed into her shield, pushing her and Angela back. The medic kept her steady as the two of them back up to regroup with the others. Brigitte’s shield joined hers and the two of them protected their teammates. The firing slowed and Y/N heard familiar laughter.
“Well, well! Fancy seeing you here!” the voice boomed.
“Mauga,” Y/N growled. The Samoan grinned at her and lifted his machine gun, resting it on his shoulder.
“I’m impressed! You do remember me! We only met a few times while you were with Talon.”
“Hard not to remember the man with two hearts,” Y/N huffed. The dust cleared and her eyes slowly adjusted to the light that was coming through. Mauga stood proudly in the opening that he had made. The rest of the wall was slowly starting to fall due to his antics, but he didn’t seem to care. They were lucky that the roof hadn’t fully collapsed. The smell of blood wafted to her from the breeze, and she looked down at what he was holding.
“Oh! Do you like the little bird I caught? Wasn’t too hard once we made her suit useless,” Mauga taunted. He held up Pharah’s limp body and Y/N shifted. She ignored the shouts from her teammates, using her shadows to quickly approach the man. She leaped from the shadows and Mauga used Pharah as a shield, forcing her to avert her path. “I had doubted you had gone soft, but I guess it was true.”
Y/N hissed and kept her eyes on the Egyptian’s battered form. Her armor was broken, and her helmet looked smashed. She couldn’t tell the extent of her injuries. Mauga sneered and reared his arm back.
“Catch!” he shouted as he threw Pharah. Y/N quickly shifted back, catching the woman in her arms and holding her close.
“Pharah!” Y/N exclaimed.
“T-trap,” Pharah groaned. Y/N’s head snapped up, seeing the Talon agents surrounding them. She materialized her shield, holding it before her as their weapons fired. The bullets fell to the ground, and she heard the others fighting back. She had to get Pharah to the healers. The woman’s blood was sticking to her hand and her own armor as she held onto her. Mauga stood before her with an amused smile.
“You going to just sit there, Shinigami?! Or are you going to fight!” Mauga shouted. Y/N growled, and her vision was filled with a purple hue. What?
“Kid! Get back here!” Zarya shouted. Her bubble would protect her for a short amount of time and Y/N wasn’t going to waste the opportunity. She dematerialized her shield and picked up Pharah, sprinting to their team. They were taking cover behind a fallen pillar, and she quickly joined them. Vivian, Illari, and Lena were laying cover fire while Brigitte was shielding Zarya, who was standing and shooting her own weapon. Angela reached up and pulled Y/N down, giving her a scolding look.
“That was idiotic!” Angela chastised.
“I was getting Pharah!” Y/N argued, lying the woman on the ground. Angela used her healing staff, healing the woman’s wounds. Pharah grimaced at the feeling and Y/N grabbed her hand. The fighting around them was almost drowned out by the fact that Pharah was lying before her in pain. Her raptor suit had been rendered useless. How? As she racked her brain, realization dawned upon her. “Sombra!”
As if on cue, Sombra’s EMP wave exploded around them. Their weapons stopped working, along with Brigitte’s shield and Angela’s healing staff. The blonde grabbed her arm and pulled her down as the bullets continued to fire upon them. They weren’t going to be able to fight their way out of this. Their weapons were useless with the EMP. Their simple pistols would work, but their fancier weaponry wouldn’t. Angela placed her hand on Pharah’s armored chest and Y/N could see the slight shake that was present. Without her healing, Pharah could bleed out.
“Come on! I thought you were stronger than this!” Mauga hollered. Angela used her free hand, cupping Y/N’s face and making her meet her gaze.
“Stay down. We’ll figure this out,” Angela assured. Y/N saw the doubt in her blue eyes and looked at the others. They weren’t going to be able to escape. She placed her hand on Angela’s and the other on Pharah’s chest.
“I’m going to buy you some time,” Y/N spoke. Pharah weakly grabbed her hand, making her look down at her.
“S-stay here,” Pharah stammered. Y/N smiled and squeezed her hand.
“It’ll be fine. I’m going to make sure you guys get out of here.”
“Y/N,” Angela spoke. Y/N met her gaze, seeing the panic in it. “Don’t do this.”
“I’m stubborn, remember? I’ll do it even if you don’t want me to.”
“Why? You don’t have to do this!”
“I do, because they are threatening my family,” Y/N smiled. Angela looked at her in shock and she crawled back from them. “Once I distract them, head to the ship.”
Y/N let her powers flow and her shadows surrounded them. She felt it pulse through her veins and she shifted to her panther form. Talon would remember why she was called ‘Shinigami’.
Point of View Change, Angela
Angela watched in shock as Y/N took to her panther form. Her body was far darker, with tendrils of darkness swirling around her. She almost looked like a shadow herself. Y/N’s Y/E/C eyes met hers and she inclined her head before disappearing. The shouts of alarm rang from the Talon agents, and she turned, seeing Y/N sweeping through them. Her snarls of anger filled the air and Angela was shocked at the ferocity behind her attacks.
“Angela, we need to move,” Lena spoke. Angela shook her head, and the woman grabbed her arm, forcing her to look at her. There was sadness in her gaze. “We need to go. She’s buying us time and we can’t be wasting it.”
Angela reluctantly nodded and looked at Zarya. “Help me get Pharah up.”
The larger woman nodded and hurried to her, picking up the injured Egyptian. She turned on her heel and they ran for the ship. Angela kept her eyes on the pink haired woman’s back, doing her best to ignore the sounds of carnage behind her. Mauga’s laughter was loud, and she clenched her staff tightly. She didn’t want to leave Y/N. They couldn’t. They could circle the ship around and grab her.
“Quickly! Inside!” Vivian ordered. They ran up the ramp and Zarya gently placed Pharah on the metal floor. Illari helped the woman rid Pharah of her armor to assess her wounds while Lena and Vivian ran for the cockpit.
“Wait! We have to pick up Y/N!” Angela shouted. The ship lifted and she ran to the edge, looking out at the battle that had moved into open area. Y/N was circling around Mauga and the remaining Talon agents were doing what they could to take her down. She charged for the man and a sniper shot went off. Y/N collapsed, sliding to a stop at Mauga’s feet and Angela screamed. She was about ready to jump from the ship, wings or not.
“Stop!” Brigitte yelled. Her arm wrapped around her stomach and Angela fought against the younger woman’s grip.
“No! Let me go!”
“There’s nothing we can do!”
A bullet hit the wall beside them, and Brigitte pulled her deeper into the ship. Mauga’s machine guns fired up at them next and the door slowly started to close.
“We can’t leave her!” Angela shouted. Brigitte held her back as the doors completely closed and Angela fell to her knees. She had promised to never leave Y/N behind again. She had promised her that they’d stay with one another. Brigitte’s arms shook around her and she felt the woman crying behind her. How could they have left her behind?
Hours Later
Angela held herself as she listened to the debrief of their mission. Pharah was in the infirmary, recovering from her injuries and the rest of them listened to Vivian recount what had happened. When they had gotten to the cockpit, their controls had been hijacked. Even if they had tried, they couldn’t have turned around for Y/N. The coordinates had been set to return to base. Sombra had hacked into their system.
“We need to save Y/N. We can’t just leave her with Talon,” Lena spoke.
“How do you rescue someone who is with Talon? We don’t even know where their base is,” Hana countered. Winston typed at his keypad, bringing up different locations on the globe in front of them.
“There are several locations we could try, but I can’t pinpoint an exact location,” Winston sighed. Angela shook her head and Reinhardt placed a steadying hand on her back.
“We will figure this out,” Reinhardt assured. Brigitte nodded and brought her a chair, helping her sit.
“We’ll come up with a plan. Between all of us, we’ll figure something out,” Brigitte added. Angela wasn’t certain they would. There was a beeping noise and all eyes turned to Illari. The Sun warrior reached into her pocket, pulling out a pager.
“I’ve got a call. Perhaps we’ll obtain more intel,” Illari spoke. She placed the pager on the table and the globe disappeared. Sombra’s familiar hacking symbol appeared, and Winston quickly turned.
“Athena!”
“It’s fine! She wouldn’t have reached out unless it was important!” Illari shouted. The Overwatch agents cautiously watched as a screen appeared, with Sombra sitting at a desk. The hacker looked agitated and worried.
“Malditos. I didn’t give you Y/N so she could end up back in Talon’s hands,” Sombra growled. She looked around at them with an unimpressed look. “I had higher hopes that you’d keep mi amiga safe.”
“Can you help us get her back?” Lena asked. Sombra shook her head and ran her fingers through her hair.
“Do you realize how hard it was to get her to you the first time? I can’t just replicate it a second time…not now.”
“What’re they going to do to her?” Angela asked. Sombra looked at her, giving her a sympathetic look.
“They gave her to Moira,” Sombra answered. Angela felt her blood run cold. Moira. She’d experiment on Y/N. She’d do anything she wanted. That woman was a damn good scientist, but her methods were unethical. Unrestrained. Y/N would be in danger with her.
“You have to help us get her back. Please?”
“I can’t make any promises. Moira won’t let her go that easy.”
“Just…try. Please? You have a better chance than any of us. We don’t know where to start,” Angela pleaded. Sombra stayed silent and tapped her finger against the desk. She looked deep in thought. As if she wasn’t sure what to say. The woman normally had lots to say. “Sombra.”
“I’ll try,” Sombra murmured. The connection flickered out and Illari picked up the pager.
“You’ve been in contact with Talon this entire time?” Vivian questioned. Illari turned, glaring at her.
“I have been in contact with Sombra. She reaches out if she needs something. Normally, it’s a one-way communicator. She reaches out to me, and I answer,” Illari answered. She slid the pager back into her pocket and Angela held her face in her hands. Moira had Y/N. There was no telling what the woman would do to her. Angela mentally swore that they would save Y/N. She wouldn’t rest until the teen was safe with them. She would do anything it took to bring her home.

x reader should be (and, generally speaking, often is) the most accepting fanfiction space because its consistently, and almost exclusively an expression or fantasy of being desired or wanted or wanting—or in an even more basic sense, considered. even if you dont explicitly self-insert, even if there’s a an oc thats just you but better or a faceless insert u make - it starts with the same premise. which is wanting to be seen or desired by some extension of who you are. or wanting to fantasize explicitly about a life that isn’t yours, any life but yours. its admitting more openly than other mediums—i want someone to want some part of me. to take interest in me sexually or romantically or platonically. i want this element of myself to be considered or thought of. sometimes that is accomplished through writing, and sometimes that is accomplished through reading and seeking to bits of yourself in other peoples. the other half is having space to want and yearn for something else. how liberating it is to admit that you’d like to be somewhere else.
and it is hardly a flawless medium and im really, really simplifying it but i do think that there is something uniquely enjoyable and freeing about it. i want agency in the stories i love. i want my presence to haunt this fiction like a ghost. i want to be loved, i want to be interesting. i want to experience hundreds of lives that aren’t mine. i want i want i want. this a story of you. this is a story of me.

Finally II
Natalia Guijarro (OC) x Hardersson!Reader
Hardersson x Daughter!Reader
Part of The Big Adventures Universe
Summary: You get interrupted
Tumblr media
You gasp into Talia's mouth as she shoves you up against the door of your apartment.
She grins against your lips, tongue slipping into your mouth as one of her hands holds you by the jaw and the other tight around your hip.
"You're so hot," She whispers, leaning down to graze her teeth against your neck. She relishes in the little whimper you let out when she sucks a hickey into your skin.
You can't quite remember how you got from the bar to your apartment.
Your mind is completely consumed with Natalia as she sucks more insistenyly at your neck.
Your chest rises and falls like you've been doing sprints. You count yoursel lucky that Prins has clearly gone to sleep in the spare room because you don't think you'd be able to look him in the eyes while Talia has you pinned against your own door.
Her tongue soothes the hicky she's made on your neck and you force her to unlatch by tugging at her hair, drawing her back so you can connect your lips again.
Somehow, you both end up on your sofa, you perched in her lap and Talia's hands keeping you steady.
"God," She says," Why did we wait to do this?"
You giggle, a very uncharacteristic sound coming from your lips. "Because you prefer me dumb and hot?"
Talia grins. "Oh, yeah." One hand leaves your waist to tug your head back, baring your neck to her. "That."
A frankly embarrassing whine rips from your throat as Talia tugs your hair and connects her lips to your collarbone and you're saved (or damned) by your phone ringing.
Talia disconnects from your neck with a wet pop as you scramble for your phone.
"H-Hello?"
"Why do you sound out of breath?" It's Morsa and your eyes go wide.
You stare at Talia, who just grins below you, one brow raised.
"I...er..." You're not quite sure what to say. "I was just out."
"Running in the middle of the night?" Morsa clicks her tongue. "I've told you before-"
She waffles on for a while and you let out a squeak as Talia rolls her hips under you.
"What was that?"
"Nothing!"
"Pernille!" You can hear Morsa yell. "Your daughter is lying to me again! Tell her to stop lying!"
"I'm not lying!" You say quickly.
"Then let's switch to a videocall."
Your eyes go wide and Talia rolls her hips again. You shove your hand against her chest to get her to stop.
"I...er..."
"Have you got somewhere there with you, princesse?" It's Momma now. Her tone is teasing and you get the feeling she knows exactly who is with you.
"Er...Yeah...Me and Natalia were just at a bar," You say and Talia grins up at you.
Momma laughs over the phone. "Were you having a bit of fun?"
You groan, leading forward and planting your face in Talia's neck. "Please stop talking."
You can hear Morsa gasp over the phone.
"What?! You were having sex?!"
"Magda, it's not a big deal."
"Not a big deal?! Sex?! Before marriage?!"
"Magda, we regularly have sex. We're not married yet."
"That's different! This is our baby we're talking about! She could end up pregnant!"
"Not unless Natalia has suddenly grown a dick."
There's silence for a moment before you have to tear the phone away from your ear.
"She's sleeping with Natalia?!"
You awkwardly clears your throat. "We're not sleeping together!"
Talia's grin sharpens.
"We're...er..."
"You're?" Momma teases.
"I invited her back because..."
"Because?"
"We were just out on a date, Miss Harder," Talia pipes up sweetly," Y/n invited me back for a coffee."
"Uh-huh." Momma doesn't sound like she believes her.
"I did!" You insist.
"Then why did you sound so out of breath."
"I was..." Your eyes catch movement in the hallway as Prins comes out. His tail wags furiously when he notices you and Talia, jumpin up onto the sofa. "Playing around with Prins. I taught him a new trick."
"Sure." You can hear the smile in Momma's voice. "Have fun with your 'date', Princesse."
You groan. "Please stop talking."

Helper
Lia Wälti x Child!Reader
Leah Williamson x Child!Reader
Summary: You're the best helper
Tumblr media
When auntie Leah tears her acl, Mummy moves you and herself into Leah's house.
She says it's because Leah will need some support. You think it's because Mummy thinks Leah won't eat proper meals. Sometimes, Mummy says Leah eats like she's rationing which means she's got a bad palate and the taste buds of a kid a lot younger than you.
But Mummy is insistent that auntie Leah just needs a bit of support and some help.
Thankfully though, Mummy always calls you her best helper so you make sure to be Leah's best helper too.
"Morning, guppy," Mummy greets you one morning.
"Hi, Mummy," You say, giving her a big morning hug. You're still very little, not yet old enough to go to school but you're getting there. Mummy says next year, you were born just a few days too late to go to school this year.
That's fine though.
That gives you time to be a big help to auntie Leah.
"What's for breakfast?" You try to peak up at the counter but you're still too little and Mummy smiles.
"Pancakes."
You gasp. "Really?"
"Really, guppy. Now, before pancakes, what must we do?"
"Wash our hands."
"That's right. Your auntie Leah is still sleeping. Do you want to wake her up for me? So we can all have pancakes?"
You nod.
"Okay, off you go."
You hurry up the stairs to auntie Leah's room and slip inside.
Mummy is right. Leah's fast asleep, like a big lump in the middle of the bed. Her crutches are on the floor near the door and you move to lean them up closer to her, so she can grab them.
You also move all of the clothes out of the way of the path to her door.
A few days ago, Mummy caught you trying to clean Leah's room for her but she said Leah's an adult and she doesn't need help keeping her room tidy and just because yours is always neat doesn't mean that Leah's had to be the same.
That was a little confusing because Mummy's room is also clean and tidy so you'd just assumed it was an adult thing.
You shuffle the clothes out of the way though just so it's easier for her.
Leah doesn't like the big light in the morning because it always scares her awake so you half-open her curtains before finally properly approaching her.
"Auntie Leah," You whisper, shaking her shoulder," It's morning time."
Leah grunts a little, trying to roll over. "Five more minutes."
"Mummy's making pancakes," You tell her," And she told me to get you up. We need to wash our hands before eating."
Leah seems a bit more awake at that and you help her pull her covers down so she can get out of bed.
"Thanks, guppy," She says as you help her with her crutches.
"That's okay, auntie Leah! We still need to go to the bathroom to do our hands though. Mummy says it's very important to wash the germs off our hands before eating."
"Oh, wow," Leah says as she walks with you," Thanks for telling me."
"That's okay," You reply, holding the bathroom door open for her," Mummy also says two squirts of soap to make sure you're hands are very clean and the germs go away."
To demonstrate, you stand on your stool and squirt two loads of soap on your hand and wash your hands like Mummy's shown you since you were little.
You supervise Leah washing your hands before helping her down the stairs, picking up all the things that were strewn across them last night.
"Mummy," You say," Auntie Leah and I washed our hands."
Lia turns around just as Leah slides into her seat. "Well," She says," You're right on time because I just finished the pancakes." She helps you up onto your own seat, cutting up your pancakes for you before sliding the plate towards you.
"Mummy," You say as you eat," Do we need to do dishes?"
"I do, yes," Mummy says in amusement, knowing exactly what you want to ask.
"Can I help?"
"I don't know, guppy," She says," Are you sure? You can go and play with Leah."
You shake your head. "No thank you, Mummy. I can help you. Auntie Leah can relax."
Leah snickers at your side. "Jesus, Lia, are you sure you're raising a child? I've never met a kid so well behaved."
Lia rolls her eyes. "I'm raising her to be polite. It's not my fault she's naturally like that."
You beam proudly at that, puffing out your chest whenever anyone tells you that you're being polite.
"Are you sure, guppy?" Auntie Leah checks with you," We can sit down and play FIFA."
"No thank you, auntie Leah," You say," I'd like to help Mummy clean up first."
"Well," Leah says, sticking her hands up," I tried."
Lia laughs as she picks you up, dragging another one of your stools over so you can be high enough to reach the sink. "Thank you for wanting to help me, guppy."
"It's okay, Mummy," You reply," If we do it together then it'll take half the time!"

Tumblr media
To say you were a people pleaser would be an understatement. You weren't sure if there was a better word to describe it, maybe... doormat? You couldn't say no to save your life. It was a genuine problem that often spiralled beyond your control. Well, you could control it. If you just said no. But that was mean. You hated the thought of anyone hating you, so you worked overtime to make sure that never happened.
Today was no different.
"Hey, Y/N! Wait up!" Shane Omen yelled your name from across the hall as you stood at your locker, making you internally groan. You didn't like Shane but you never showed it. You forced out a smile as you looked at him.
"What's up, Shane?" You asked, keeping your tone your signature calm one. As opposed to the internal screaming that was going on in your head. Why couldn't he just leave you alone? You had been having an amazing day before he showed up.
"Mind doing my homework for me? I'm just so busy this week that I have no time for it. Oh, and my buddies too. I'll pay ya." He smirked at you, clearly trying to use whatever charm he could muster. This wasn't the first time it's happened. His friend had walked up next to him, holding a large stack of papers up to his chest which you could only assume was the entirety of Shane's friend groups overdo homework.
You held back a sigh.
"Yeah. When do you need it done by?" You asked. Reluctantly. You hated the thought of doing all that extra work, but then again you hated the thought of someone hating you more than you hated the idea of doing the homework. So you'd do it. On top of your own you already had to do, plus you had promised Karen you'd help her out with hers.
"This Friday." He replied, gesturing for his friend to give you the work. Which he did. He practically shoved it into you.
The sudden weight added to your binders almost made you stumble, this Friday? It was fucking Wednesday. That gave you two nights. Shit, you'd have to pull all nighters in order to get this done, your own work, AND help Karen. Maybe Karen should come first, since she was her girlfriend. Restart.
Karen, your own work, and Shane's shit. That's the order you gathered in your head. You could help Karen out tonight, get your own work done after and get it all done in one session so you could focus the rest of the day tomorrow on Shane's stuff. Yeah, that could work.
"Yeah... I got it. You don't have to pay." You smiled at him, he gave your shoulder a playful nudge. Sure, the money for your time would be nice. But you hated the thought of taking someone's money. Even if it was Shane Omen's.
"You're amazing, Y/N!" Shane and his buddy walked off, high fiving each other and clasping their hands together with a smirk. You rolled your eyes and readjusted the papers and your binder with your knee. Sighing at the sight of the stack you now held.
Finale bell went, showing the end of the day. Which you were grateful for.
You moved the papers and binders to one side so you could hold it with a single arm comfortably. Then opened your locker with your now free hand, holding your knee up to keep the papers from slipping. Grimacing slightly at your awkward option as you pulled your bag from your locker, stumbling back as the bag came out. Though your balance was caught by Gretchen, who gave you a soft smile and held you as you gathered your footing. Slinging the bag on your shoulder then holding the papers with both arms again.
"Thanks, baby." You smiled at your girlfriend, Karen quickly came up behind her and smiled at you.
"Y/N!" She gave you a quick hug, you kissed Karen's cheek since your hands were too full to hug her back.
Gretchen looked at all the stuff in your arms and raised an eyebrow," What's all that?"
"Shane's stuff. He needed some extra help." You explain briefly, not giving too many details. Gretchen narrowed her eyes at that. You were helping Shane? Shane Omen? Why?
She was going to ask more, when Karen suddenly frowned and interrupted.
"You're still helping me tonight, right?"
"No yeah, yeah of course! Come over to mine when Regina drops us off, okay?" You assure her, feeling a little bad for making her think you wouldn't be able to help her too. Even if it was an accident. As for Regina dropping you off, she pretty much always takes you to and from school along with Karen & Gretchen.
Karen smiles gratefully at you and pulls you in for a kiss, you happily kiss her back and Gretchen takes a photo of the two of you.
"That's so cute! It's going on our shared insta." Gretchen says with a little squeal, opening insta on her phone and going to the shared account you all have access to. She posts the photo with the caption: look at these cuties 🥺💕
You break the kiss and smile at Gretchen, your group text then goes off with a text from Regina.
|| Regina: where the hell are all of you?? I'll leave you here if you dont hurry your asses.
There's a pause before another text comes in.
|| Regina: YOU BETTER NOT BE MAKING OUT WITHOUT ME
You laughed when you read that one, Gretchen giggled too and you glanced at Karen with an innocent grin.
"She must've seen the photo." You say with a laugh, the girls nod their heads in agreement and the three of you head to Regina's jeep. You didn't want to keep her waiting longer than you already have.
At the jeep, Karen and Gretchen got in the back while you took your usual seat in the front next to Regina. Who was already looking at you expectantly.
"Just a sec," You tell her, attempting to stuff your binders and additional papers into your bag so they didn't blow away when Regina drove. Considering her jeep had no doors, something you found awfully inconvenient.
Regina groans and rolls her eyes," Ugh. Why do you have so much extra papers anyway?"
"Helping Shane." You reply, part of you had wanted to lie because you knew Regina wouldn't like the answer. But if she found out about the lie (and she always does) that would've made things way worse.
Regina looked offended," What? Seriously? Why the fuck?"
"He asked and I couldn't say no.." You admit in a mumble, making Regina narrow her eyes at you.
"You gotta work on that. Seriously, Y/N." Regina says, you finally get everything to fit in your bag before you looked at her with a frown.
"You know, Regina's right Y/N." Gretchen pipes up, leaning forward and resting her arm on Regina's back seat as she looks at you with a concerned gaze." You take on way too much from other people."
"But they'll get mad if I say no." You respond, turning your gaze to Gretchen for a moment.
"So? Fuck them, let them get mad." Regina shrugged and grabbed your chin, making you look at her before kissing you roughly. Your eyes widened at the suddenness of it but you melted into the kiss. She broke it off and wiped your bottom lip with her thumb, smirking at you," You owed me a kiss."
You blushed deeply and she laughed at your reaction, shaking her head and starting up her car.
"You're too easy. But fuck, Y/N. You gotta stop letting people walk all over you. You're not a fucking doormat." Regina's words may have been harsh, but they were the truth. You did need to stop letting people walk all over you.
~~~
But maybe not today. It was now Monday. You had managed to get everything done for Friday, much to your own sacrifice. You haven't slept a wink since Tuesday night before everything happened. And you were starting to feel it. Sure you could have slept on the weekend, but your girls dragged you around to house parties both Saturday night and Sunday night. You stayed sober to keep an eye on them and be the designated driver and you probably could have slept when you got them home, but you wanted to make sure nothing happened throughout the night. So you've been awake for almost a week straight. It was hell.
Today you had Chess Club, an extra curricular club you had chosen. You managed to get your girlfriends to agree to let you do it, Gretchen had put up a bit of an argument but when she saw how good you were at the game she let it slide.
You sat in your usual spot at the library, a chess board in front of you as played off against your best friend; Flow Scotts (short for Florence). You guys had met when you joined Chess Club, having been paired together day one. The two of you were a pretty even match and would face off against each other frequently, which built the friendship between the two of you.
You studied the board as you rubbed one of your eyes, plotting your next move while trying to stay awake. She already had you in check with her bishop, so you moved your own bishop to block hers. With the Queen defending the bishop it was a solid move, if she decided to take your piece blocking your King you could safely take hers with your Queen. sorry to the non-chess nerds who aren't going to really understand my rambles here.
Flow made a huff sound and you laughed, smiling at her when someone comes to sit next to your table. You didn't recognize him, so you assumed he must've been new to the Club as he watched your game with an interest only Chess Club members seemed to have in their eyes.
Flow blinks and looks up from the board, getting distracted from whatever strategy she had been forming in her head." Can we help you?"
"Oh! Hi! Um, Mr. Rapp told me I could come join you guys here. And like observe and maybe play winner. I'm James." He introduces himself, you and Flow glanced at each other and you shrugged.
"Alright. This is Flow, I'm-" He stops you with a smile.
"Y/N. I know, everyone knows. You're dating the plastics." James says, you sighed. You hated when people called them that. They were so much more than 'the plastics' behind closed doors.
"Right." You nodded your head.
"Also, I'm still sort of new to Chess and Mr. Rapp said that one of you could help me out with like extra chess lessons after school?" James continued on, you glanced at Flow.
"I have soccer practice after soccer today." Flow looks back at you. Flow didn't play soccer, she clearly just didn't want to tutor him.
"Yeah, okay. I'll do it. Meet here five minutes after the bell." You tell James, who gives you a grateful smile.
You had a test you had wanted to study for after school and a project you had wanted to use the school lab computers for, but now you were stuck tutoring James. You figured you could just pull another all nighter to get the work done. What's one more?
~~
Well, one more turned into many more. It's been a total of three weeks since you last had a decent, solid sleep and it was really affecting your grades. People just kept asking things of you and you couldn't tell them no. It was bad.
Ms. Norbury was the first to notice your grades dropping, as your grades in math were pretty solid. They weren't mathletes worthy but they weren't completely low either. You averaged a 75%, which had now dropped down to 68% with your lack of sleep and focus in class.
You were currently in math, which was your fourth period. Trying desperately to pay attention and not fall asleep. Though at one point you droop so low your head hits the table, startling you into a more upright position as people stared at you in confusion. Ms. Norbury narrowed her eyes, sleeping in class wasn't like you. She was sure something was wrong.
"Okay, everybody take 5." She says, people get up and head out while she walks over to you.
"Y/N? Everything alright?"
"Just tired." You tell her in a mumble, you weren't a mumbler.
"Honey, when was the last time you slept?" She asked, crouching down in front of your desk to get a better look at you. She frowned as she saw the dark circles and the very evident exhaustion.
You simply shrugged, to you her voice felt far and distant so you had to put all your remaining energy into hearing her. You couldn't remember the last time you had a good sleep. You knew it had been a while ago, though. All your days just felt as though they had blended together.
That concerned Ms. Norbury further, she debated if she should just send you home at this rate. After all it was just fourth period and she was sure you'd have people in other classes who could get the work you missed.
"Come on, Y/N. How about we call one of your parents and have them come get you?" She said softly, knowing a good sleep at home would be what you needed.
When you heard that you shook your head, you knew your parents wouldn't come get you. Even if you had been throwing up they'd tell you to tough it out.
"They wouldn't.." You say in a mumble, Ms. Norbury frowns at that and tries to think of a plan B. She knew the various cliques and which students hung out with who, so she knew you were close with the plastics. The question was which one would be come get you? Little did she know any one of them would do it in a heartbeat.
She sighed quietly to herself and stood up," Alright, just wait here." She tells you before heading to the class phone and giving someone a call. You weren't sure who.
About five minutes pass before Gretchen comes running into the room, when she saw you she paused and looked at Ms. Norbury. They seemed to have some silent conversation, no. Their mouths were moving. You just couldn't focus enough to hear what they were saying.
You slumped back in your seat and your eyes started to close, exhaustion catching up to you when you felt hands on your shoulders and looked to see Gretchen watching you with worry all over her face.
Gretchen had known that something was wrong. She knew it from the start, but every time she tried to talk about it with you you would just say 'tired' and nothing else so she gave up pressing you on it. She knew she should have tried harder to get the information out of you.
Even Regina had tried too at one point, she noticed when you weren't fully present in a conversation she was having with you. You just kept replying with 'mhm' 'uh huh' and so she tested it by saying 'I dont know what to wear to school tomorrow, think I should go topless?' you replied with a simple 'yepper' and that basically confirmed for her that you weren't listening. So, when she asked what was wrong after getting your attention, you just replied 'tired' to her too. She didn't think to press further.
"Y/N, are you listening?" Gretchen asked, a frown on her lips after she had snapped her fingers to get your attention. You blinked and looked at her.
"Huh?" You didn't realize she had been trying to talk with you.
"I'm taking you to Regina's, Ms. George will come get us." Ms. George was your backup. If one of you needed to go home for whatever reason or just wanted to skip and relax, she always said that she would come get you girls," I texted the groupchat and told them what was going on. They're on their way over, just hang tight. Okay?"
You nodded and not too long after all three were standing before you, Ms. Norbury was back at her desk. Letting you girls have your space.
"You look exhausted." Karen points out. Leave it to Karen to point out the obvious.
Regina narrows her eyes at her and sighs before looking back at you, resting her hand to your cheek and rubbing it gently with her thumb. You lean in a little closer to her touch," Why haven't you been sleeping?"
"Busy." You reply, unable to gather enough energy to say more. The three exchanged looks.
"Busy with what?" Regina replied, she knew you had your Chess Club, tutoring Karen, and your own work on top of that but she didn't think that was enough to get you this tired.
"Helping people." You explain, talking simply again. She groaned at that. That's what caused this?
"Baby, I thought I told you to say no?" Regina takes her hand off you, you feel the warmth leave and you almost slump forward on your desk. You'd been using her hand as support. Her hands rest on her hips as Gretchen catches you and keeps you up, giving your forehead a soft kiss.
"Mean." You respond.
"Excuse me?" Regina looked offended, thinking you had called her mean. You shook your head and desperately looked at Gretchen to translate.
Gretchen tensed, racking her brain to think of what you meant," Did you mean saying 'no' was mean?"
You nodded.
"That's not mean. You can always say no, that's what Gretchen says to me all the time." Karen pipes up, Gretchen gives her a soft look and nods in agreement.
"Y/N/N, you're allowed to have boundaries." Gretchen tells you," is it really worth it if it's doing this to you?"
You were going to respond but there was a knock at the door, you glanced at it and saw Flow there.
"Hey, Y/N. I would've texted but I was walking by here anyway, you coming to Chess tonight?" She asked.
Regina scoffed and folded her arms," Absolutely not. Fuck off."
"Regina, language!" Ms. Norbury narrowed her eyes at the blonde who rolled her own.
Flow tensed at Regina's harshness and looked at you. Gretchen scrambles a response.
"What Regina meant is that Y/N is just super tired, she's going home to rest tonight. Right, baby?" Gretchen looked at you. Expecting you to agree.
Regina looked at you with a look that was basically commanding you to tell Flow 'no'. You hated it.
"Resting tonight..." You grumbled, continuing to speak in simple terms.
Flow's gaze shifted to concern but she nodded her head," okay.. let me know how you're doing later, alright?" She left after that.
"That wasn't so hard, was it?" Regina kept her gaze on you.
"Awful." You shook your head, disagreeing with her which makes her scoff.
Soon enough, Ms. George comes and picks all three of you up. Bringing you to their place. You were brought to Regina's bed by your girlfriends, who all snuggled up with you in bed. Gretchen on your right, Karen on the left and Regina on top. You easily fell asleep once Regina started giving your neck soft, soothing kisses. Your girls stayed close to you.
You slept for a solid 24 hours and some.
"F-fuck, Y/n. Right there… Yes." The woman below you pants in your ear, nails scraping down your back to grip your butt possessively.
Your hips move faster, deeper with each thrust, making her moan. "You could've told me you were coming back today," you grunt.
She digs her nails into your skin and you hiss in annoyance, slapping her inner thigh. "Do that one more time and I'm not fucking you for a week."
The spy lets out a throaty laugh that turns into a scream when your thrusts suddenly become harsh and uncoordinated, your hands pressing down her hips. Her tits bounce with each push, her perky nipples begging for attention. You look up to her tear stricken face, enjoying the sight of her reddened cheeks and bleeding lips.
"It was- fuck… u-undercover," she's breathless, stuttering, "... secret," she manages at last, pulling your face down to her breasts, knowing you still have something to say.
You're annoyed and maybe a little bit hurt, but you still let her guide you, eagerly sucking on the tender skin, grazing her nipples with your teeth.
Maybe she'll finally agree to talk to you after.
She comes with a stifled cry, hiding her face in the crook of your neck and gets up as soon as her body stops shaking.
You have a lot of things to say, but your mouth is suddenly too dry and your throat too hoarse, so you sit on the edge of your bed and watch her dress.
"Thank you," she kisses you on the corner of your mouth, lingering, nose nuzzling against yours when she pulls away.
She looks reluctant to leave and you hope she doesn't.
The door clicks shut on her way out.
"No daydreaming on the mission briefings." Clint snaps his fingers in front of your face, pulling you out of your thoughts.
You blink, eyes refocusing to see everyone staring at you in question.
"What?" You ask, shifting in your seat.
"Stark wants to know if you like your new suit," Natasha asks with a smirk on her face.
You look up at the screen in front of the room and there it is - yet another heavily modified piece of clothing you undoubtedly going to destroy on your next mission.
You can admit it looks better than the previous one, the red is much deeper and the blue is not as obnoxious, but they still clash, not coming together as seamlessly as the one you wore back home, but that's the best Stark can offer and you're thankful he's even trying, so you nod in appreciation and send him a grateful smile.
"Think this one will fall apart mid flight?" Thor teases, reminding you of one of your most embarrassing moments.
It happened when you first joined the team. Tony made you wear a suit he made, claiming it was good to match with the team, so you've listened to make him happy and fit in better. It's a good thing you wore your underwear from Asgard that day.
"Now that it's settled we should move on to the purpose of this briefing," Steve waited until he had everyone's attention before continuing, "now that Thor is finally here we can finally take back the Scepter…" he continues with the details and you easily tune him out, focusing on the redhead woman across from you instead.
The corner of her lip is still quirked up, her eyes trained on Steve as he gestures to the map on the screen behind him. You look down at your hands on the table, fiddling with your thumbs.
You wish you were better at reading humans.
“You okay?” Clint leans into your side to whisper discreetly.
You nod, managing a convincing smile. “Didn't get much sleep is all.”
He glances at Natasha not so subtly, his brows furrowing. You think he's the only one who knows about the two of you, or, at least, he suspects.
“You know what you're doing, right?”
“Yeah,” you breathe out, not knowing at all.
×××
You're hovering over the base, looking through the walls for Scepter, when you first see her.
The girl looks about your age, you think, maybe a little younger, and she is busy talking to a silver haired man. They look too out of place, dressed like high schoolers and unbothered by the attack. You frown when the girl whispers a quiet "take care of the big guy" to the boy, your mouth dropping open in shock when he runs almost fast enough to go unnoticed by you. Almost.
Deciding it's your time to intervene you warn the team before landing in front of the back entrance, eyes trained on the girl behind the door. You don't know what she's capable of and you find yourself intrigued. The door opens with a squeak and you wince, mutterings a curse under your breath.
She's out of sight by the time you enter, but you can still hear her erratic heartbeat.
"Come out," you say, tilting your head to the right. You heard enough to know she's hiding in the shadow.
You hear her gulp before she steps into your field of view, her shoulder grazing yours as she comes to stand in front of you.
She is beautiful, you think, taking note of redness in her pupils.
"You know who we are," you wait for her to nod before continuing, "you can come with me." You offer your hand, palm up, and wait for her to decide.
She scoffs and her eyes turn redder. "What makes you think I want to?" There's red around her fingers now and you find yourself curious to find out what she can do.
You smile. "You will come with us one way or another. I'd prefer not to hurt you."
You realise your mistake as soon as the words leave your mouth.
Suddenly, there's red everywhere and you're out of the building, flying through the door to the other end of the backyard. You feel a pressing weight on your chest, and when you look down you see red wisps enveloping your body, keeping you pinned to the ground.
You look up when a shadow falls on your face.
She crouches with a smirk planted on her smug face, and moves your hair out of your face. "You can come with me," she offers, mirth in her eyes and you let out a breathless laugh, closing your eyes and tilting your head back.
"I'm afraid I have to say no," you whisper after a moment, strangely content at the mercy of your enemy.
She hums, waving her hand over you and you feel the weight disappear.
When you open your eyes she's no longer there.
×××
"You just let her go?" Natasha asks later that night, her head nestled on your chest after hours of hiding her moans in a pillow as you pounded into her.
You snort. "She's a witch, Nat, I don't think I can keep up with magic."
She lifts her head to look at you, eyes searching for something you're not even aware of. "You're the fastest person on this planet. Faster than her brother, and certainly faster than her."
You look away, closing your eyes in embarrassment. You didn't even think about your speed when you faced the witch.
You feel her get up from bed, and you open your eyes, reaching for her, "Natasha- " Her eyes flash, and you close your mouth.
She shakes her head. "She distracted you. And you let her go," she huffs and bends down to pick up her panties.
You get up and catch her wrist. "Can you tell me what's going on?" You ask, searching her eyes for an answer, but you're an alien and she's the best spy in the world so you're left even more confused.
She opens her mouth for a split second before snapping it shut. She pulls away and puts on a shirt before finally speaking, "I saw the footage."
You frown.
"Didn't know it only takes a little flirting and a pretty face to make you let an enemy go," she hisses through clenched teeth.
Your mouth drops open in shock.
"Are you-" you let out a breathless chuckle at the mere thought before finally getting yourself together, "are you jealous?"
You can hear her jaw grinding, can hear her nails dig into the soft skin of her palm.
And yet, you still can't believe what she just said.
"You're a fucking hypocrite, Natasha," you say, and a split second later you're dressed and out in the nearby field, searing up towards the sky.
You don't see her falling back into the pillow you layed on mere seconds ago, tears gathering in the corners of her eyes.
There's a party the next day, and a part of you just wants to hop in your pod and disappear in the depths of space.
Another part of you wants to see Natasha happy and content, basking in the warmth of your arms. You know she'll never allow anyone to know about the two of you, but still, hope blossoms in your chest when you first see her go down the stairs. She moves right past you towards the bar, and you see Banner approach her with a nervous smile. His flirting is awkward and you pity the man, awaiting Natasha's response.
She flirts back.
"So… You and Romanoff?" Steve comes to stand beside you, smiling his fatherly smile, and you fight the urge to run away.
"You should tell her," he presses on, "she's not the most open person in the world, but from what I know about her, I think… there's a good chance for the two of you to be happy."
You've told her.
She doesn't like you back.
You shoot him a quick, awkward smile. "I'll think about it."
He nods, satisfied and walks up to the pair, his eyes widening when he overhears the last bit of their conversation. He winces and looks back at you, knowing you probably heard it all by now.
You shake your head at the concerned look he sends your way, and walk to sit on the couch, closing your eyes for a moment, letting your hearing go wild, listening in on an argument on the other side of the city, anything to remove yourself from this situation. The argument doesn't last too long, the engaged pair making up not even ten minutes later and you move your attention back to the party.
When you open your eyes Thor is sitting beside you, daring Clint to pick up his hammer. You sit up straighter, curious to see where it might go.
"Everyone knows it's some kind of a trick." His fingers wrap around the handle, but the hammer doesn't move an inch, much to the archers embarrassment.
Tony appears seemingly out of nowhere to make fun of Barton and you join in on the laughter, enjoying the rare moment of happiness, momentarily forgetting about your not so fun predicament.
Thor winks at you, enjoying this way more than he probably should, and hands you a bottle of Asgardian beer.
Out of the corner of your eye you see Natasha join your little game, Steve hot on her heels. She looks a little out of place, eyes laced with uncertainty when she sees an empty spot by your side. With a slight push from Steve she sits, careful not to touch you.
Banner is left standing a few feet away.
"It's simple physics," Tony grins, attempting to lift the weapon. His eyes narrow when it stays in its spot.
You rub your eyes when he decides to embarrass himself even further, calling Rhodes for backup and putting on his suit. The ridiculous game goes on, and Steve decides to try, you don't bother to watch, but then you hear metal scraping against the fine wood of the coffee table. Your head snaps up to look at Thor and immediately you know he heard it too, his eyes going comically wide for a split second before closing in relief when Steve doesn't pull harder, letting the hammer stay in its place.
"Natasha?" Banner nudges the redhead.
You roll your eyes, taking a sip of your bear. You want to go and finish the drink in the solitary of your room, maybe let out a few tears, but you promised Thor you'd stay until the very end, knowing he's set to leave in a few short days.
"I don't want to know the answer to that question," she says before taking a sip of her beer.
"Y/n?" Thor invites you to try, but you shake your head no, an excuse already on your tongue when you first hear it.
The screeching is loud enough to hurt humans, but to your enhanced hearing it's pure torture. You fall to the floor, covering your ears, letting out a silent cry and Natasha is by your side immediately, pressing you into her side, trying to ground your hearing. You hiss in pain, your head feels like it's being slit open, and you think Natasha is saying something, but you can't focus on a single thing.
The next second you feel her lips against yours and the sound is gone, replaced by Natashas frantic heartbeat.
"Focus on me, baby, come on," Natasha whispers against your lips, words barely audible. You nod, trying to regain your senses.
Her kisses move lower to your chin, then to your jaw, her fingers skimping under the hem of your shirt, setting the skin of your lower stomach on fire.
"Stay with me, baby," she mumbles in your ear.
There's a fight going on around you, robots flying around destroying everything in sight, but the only thing you see is Natasha's glistening eyes as she pulls away to check on you.
Then she's pulling you up and out of the room, narrowly missing a piece of metal flying her way, your eyes flicker around and you stop in your tracks, ready to join the fight and end it in seconds, but then there's a tug on your hand.
"They'll handle it. Let me take care of you."
You nod, feeling hope blossom in your chest.
Maybe Steve's right.
×××
They handled it and now you're off to Africa, getting ready to fight a villainous robot made of vibranium. The jet is weirdly silent - Tony's sulking in the corner, unusually quiet, Steve stares him down from his seat, jaw grinding in annoyance and you wonder what happened after Natasha led you to her room. You tried to pry away, ready to run back and join on the planning, but she didn't budge, staring you down until you relented and fell against the sheets, her fingers making quick works of your belt buckle.
Now though, she's back to acting like she doesn't care, her eyes trained on the skyline and you can't even pretend you aren't hurt.
"We are close," you warn the team, already searching for the target. Your eyes lock on the pair talking to Ultron. "The twins are there, on the second floor, talking to Ultron. We need to hurry."
Natasha looks at you for the first time since you boarded the jet. "Stay away from the witch. We'll handle her."
You scoff at her tone, mildly pissed at her bossing you around. "You're ordering me around now?" you force through gritted teeth.
Her eyes narrow and she looks like she wants to say more, but Tony pushes her out of the way to jump out of the jet, Thor and Steve following right behind him, and she's left glaring daggers at your back as you hurry along.
You look for the witch the moment you land.
She's easy to find, hiding in the shadows, waiting for a perfect moment to strike, while her brother runs around wrecking havoc.
"Little witch," you call out, startling her enough to make her jump up.
Her eyes flash in annoyance, but the second she sees it's you her lips stretch in a one sided smile. "I have a name, you know."
You nod, your lips stretching into a full blown grin. You remember how your last conversation ended, but you don't care much about the possibility of her hurting you.
"I won't," she says, like she just read your mind.
You suppose she might have, she is a witch after all.
She shakes her head, letting out a huff of laughter, "There's a lot of things I can do," her eyes flash dangerously, her smile now with a hint of malice, "make sure not to cross me." She winks and turns just in time to step out of her brother's way.
You blink, cursing yourself for getting so distracted again, and dart after her brother. It is an easy ordeal, and mere seconds later you have him pinned to the ground.
"You really should let me go," he grunts against the concrete, wiggling against your hold.
"I am an alien, not an idiot," you scoff, easing your hold on him just a little.
He stills for a moment, craning his neck to take a look at you, "An alien?"
His eyes are full of wonder, and suddenly you're reminded that the two of them are young, the same age you were when you first stepped foot on Earth.
You sigh, looking around for a cage of some sort or a piece of metal to bend around the runner.
"Why are you helping them?" He asks, wonder replaced by anger. "Do you know what he did?"
There it is. An old basement with a bulletproof door.
"Making a bomb and launching it at civilians are two very different things, you know?" You quip and his eyes flash in indignation, but before he can start his rant you push him inside, locking the door and bending the metal for a good measure.
"He did some shitty things in the past, but at least he never joined the Nazis."
You walk away, painfully aware of the truth in your words. Now that you've said it out loud you're faced with the fact that the witch you've grown to like just after two short interactions is not a good person.
Shaking your head you make your way up, one down, two to go. You squint in the dark, trying to spot Ultron, but he's nowhere to be found and neither is Tony, so you mentally brace yourself to face the witch again, but the second you step on the landing you see Thor's slumped form.
"Hey!" You shake his shoulders and slap his face for good measure and his eyes open. He's blinking rapidly, like he just woke up from a long nap, his eyes glossed over.
"Y/n!" He whispers feverishly, and pulls you in a bone crushing hug. "You're okay, of course you're okay. That witch. She warped my mind," he pants, pushing you away, "You need to make sure everyone else is okay."
You look him over, and once you're sure he's not hurt you nod, pulling him up to his feet, and take off in the direction of Natasha's heartbeat.
You stop in your tracks as soon as your eyes fall on the trembling woman. Tears stream down her face, but her eyes are focused on the floor, unblinking. She doesn't move when Clint presses her into his side, doesn't flinch when he hauls her up to her feet, but when her eyes register you she jumps as if burned, clutching at Clint.
You take a step closer, your own eyes watering, but she looks like she might throw up if you move any closer.
Clint sends you a look and shakes his head, mouthing, "I've got her."
She limps past you, shaking so violently you're sure even a human can notice.
They move past you and suddenly all you see is red.
Moving faster than the speed of light you have the witch pressed against the wall, her fingers clutched in your vice grip.
She looks up, her eyes wide and terrified.
Good, you think.
"What did you do to her?" You growl in her face, pushing her into the wall with your whole body.
No way you'll let her escape this time.
Her throat constricts. "I- Her biggest fear. I showed her her biggest fear." She sinks her body against the wall, trying to wrangle her hands out of your grip. Her heart is thrumming violently and you can't tell if the tiny skip of a beat is a result of her fear or her lie.
"She'll be fine in a few hours, I swear." Her eyes lock with yours, so unbelievably green, and you feel yourself slipping away. "Just let me go," she asks, pushing her body forwards, her fingers slipping away from your hold. Her face tilts forward until your lips are almost touching. “Let me go,” she whispers. You don't see the wisps of her magic swirl around her fingers, too focused on the way her lips move. Too many thoughts swarm your brain, but you find yourself focusing on one. You want her to close the gap.
"That's right, you want me to kiss you." Her lips almost brush against yours in a gentle peck. Your grip on her weakens completely and you're enveloped in her arms. Suddenly, she's everywhere. In your arms, in your head, in your heart. "I'm sorry about this," she whispers before pushing you off the ledge.
There's red everywhere and you find yourself falling and falling…
…and falling until your back hits the ground with a painful thud.
"Y/n! Get up. Come on." Your father helps you up, tilting your head to check the injury, but you can't focus on his face, all you can see is purple.
The planet under your feet rumbles, splitting open yet again, making your father forget about tending to your bloodied forehead in favor of hauling you up over his shoulder.
"No." You push against his shoulders when you finally realize where he's taking you. "No! I'm staying with you," you cry out, wiping the tears out of your eyes.
The sight in front of you is a nightmare. A sick, deranged nightmare. You can see the man responsible for this hold up the purple stone higher in the air, another powerful wave destroying everything in its wake.
"We have to fight, dad! We have to stop him! What about mom?!" You scream until your throat hurts, but your father doesn't budge, pushing you through double doors leading to the pods.
"We will fight," he promises, putting you down. "But you… you're destined for greatness, my child. You can't die fighting a losing battle." He places a kiss on your temple, pushing a syringe into your side.
You stare at him in betrayal, fighting against him with all your might, but your limbs get too heavy and your eyes start closing on their own.
You're pushed in the pod and your father types coordinates for Asgard. "They'll treat you as their own," he chokes, trying to fight tears, "I love you, my sweet girl."
"Y/n!"
You sit up, gasping for breath, eyes darting around the room.
"Y/n, a little help!"
Tony's voice sounds from your comms and you shudder.
"I can't-" you sob, looking around you, searching for the witch, but she's long gone, and all you can do is sit in the dark and hope someone will come and get you.
"I don't know what you saw there, kid, but our green friend might chew me up any second now. I really need you," he pleads.
Your hands shake and your legs tremble as you stand up, forcing the memory to the back of your mind. You close your eyes, letting the tears fall and tear through the roof, unaware of a pair of eyes watching you leave.
Injured (Jenni's Version) II
Jenni Hermoso x Child!Reader
Summary: Mama's dog comes home
Tumblr media
Life in Mexico, you find, is not that different to life in Spain.
There's a few differences though. They don't speak Catalan here, or, not in the part of Mexico that you and Mama live. They speak their Spanish differently to you and Mama but everyone is very friendly.
You like your ballet teacher and you love your classes.
Life in Mexico is good, you decide.
Mama holds your hand all the time. She is happy and smiley and sometimes attacks you with kisses and cuddles when you aren't paying attention.
Mama still plays football and you come along to training but days off are spent in the living room together building a train track and playing with one of your new trains on it.
You've just packed away the trains you were playing with when Mama calls for you downstairs.
You hurry down just as Mama opens the front door.
Tio Rafael smiles to you as he steps inside and you hide behind Mama's legs.
He's your new Tio because he's Mama's brother. You've never had a Tio before because Mami had a sister and Tia Alba didn't date boys so you had no one in your life to become a Tio.
He exchanges words with Mama but you're focused on the dog by his feet.
You've meet Mama's dog a few times before Mama was Mama so you recognise him.
"Hi," You say softly and he leaps up at you, trying to lick your face," Stop it! That tickles!"
Tio Rafael bids goodbye to Mama, saying something about meeting up with her in a few days after sightseeing but leaves the dog.
You look at him.
He looks at you.
"Is Tio's dog staying here?" You ask and Mama laughs.
"This is our dog," She explains to you," Rafa was just looking after him in Spain for me. I thought, since I brought you home, I should bring him home too."
"He is little," You say as he explores the house, snout pressed to the ground.
"You're little," Mama says back with a little laugh, hoisting you up onto her hip," Alright, what movie did we want today?"
At the end of a day off, Mama sits you down with her to watch a movie together.
She calls it tradition and you like that.
You love it, actually, because Mama sits on the sofa with you and snuggles beneath a blanket. Sometimes, she'll rake her fingers through your hair and you'll go all limp and boneless.
Those times you don't get to stay awake. You always fall asleep before the movie is finished and it's hit or miss if you wake up in your own bed in the morning or in Mama's with her.
"Er..."
Mama usually helps you make this decision. You don't know why you struggle with choosing but you do so Mama puts you on her lap and shows you all the options.
"That one!"
You love movie night but not really for the movies. You love it for Mama and the cuddles she gives you and the way she smiles and the way she holds you close.
That's why you love movie night.
You couldn't care less about the movies. It's all about being with Mama.
The little dog she's brought home is not like Nala. Nala was fluffier than this dog and a girl as well. This dog has short fur and he's a boy.
You like him though and giggle when he leaps up onto the sofa with you and crawls into your lap even though you're sitting in Mama's lap.
He licks your face a few more times before curling up on your legs.
"He likes me!" You whisper to Mama, careful to not disrupt him.
"Of course he does," Mama says warmly," He knows you're family."
You grin at that, like every time Mama references that you're a family. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and you lean back against her again.
Her arms wrap around your waist and her ticklish kisses flutter across your cheeks.
Mama's dog looks up as you try to wriggle away, shrieking with laughter.
He whines a little at you and rockets forward to hit Mama in the face with his snout, giving out a little yip of warning.
"Hey!" She laughs," She was mine before she was yours!"
But Mama's little dog sneezes in her face before curling up on your lap again.
He follows you to bed tonight too, when Mama takes you to your room and reads you a bedtime story. He jumps up onto your bed like Nala did when you were little.
He turns around in a little circle before settling at your feet, resting his head on your ankles.
Mama laughs. "Are you sleeping with Bambi tonight? Alright then. Don't keep her up all night."
"He won't," You say," We're tired."
Mama gives you a kiss on the forehead and pulls the covers up to your chin. "Love you, Bambi."
"Love you, Mama."
Celebrate
Hardersson x Child!Reader
Part of The Big Adventures Universe
Summary: Magda overdoes it
Tumblr media
There are lots of things you like about parties.
The music. The endless food. The amount of fizzy drinks you can have.
Most of all, you like that you get to stay up past bedtime.
You sit in a little booth was a cup of sprite and a straw and blow more bubbles in your drink.
A lot of the Not-Wolfsburg girls are celebrating at the bar or on the dancefloor, where Guro is really having fun and people are giving Niamh a wide berth. Coach Emma is also dancing and you think she might be drunk.
You think Morsa is drunk too because she's halfway between giggly and weepy and she's stumbling around with some of the others.
Momma sits next to you, nursing her own drink as she opens another packet of goldfish crackers for you to munch on. You're feeling a little sleepy, forcing down your yawn because you know if Momma notices then she'll make you go home and you really don't want to go home right now.
Especially when Niamh is trying to dance but making it very clear that she can't do it properly.
You clamp down on your yawn and go to take another long drink of your sprite.
"Er...Pernille..." Millie says as she approaches. She looks a little awkward, rubbing the back of her neck with her hand. "Magda's..." She spares a look behind her. "Yeah, Magda..."
Momma sighs deeply. "She's pretty far gone, huh?"
"Yeah...She just got into the bathroom."
Momma stands up. "I'll look after her." She turns to you. "Stay here, okay? With Millie. She'll watch you."
You shrug. "Okay."
Millie slides into the booth next to you. "So," She says," What are you drinking?"
"Vodka."
"What?!"
You giggle, swinging your legs. "Don't be silly, Millie. I've got Sprite!"
She still looks a little sceptical and leans forward to sniff at your drink, pulling back when she's satisfied that it isn't actually alcohol.
You take a sip.
"Is Morsa being sick?" You ask.
"Er...no..."
You fix her with a look. "Don't lie," You say," Because Momma says when people drink too much, they throw up. Is that what Morsa's doing?"
"Yes."
You nod, finishing off your drink. "Can I get another sprite?"
Millie looks down at your empty glass and then back at the bar. "Stay here," She says," Don't wander off."
"Okay, Millie."
As soon as she's up by the bar, you slip out of the booth. You weave your way through the team, stumbling a little bit when someone bumps into you but you stay on your course to the toilets.
Morsa is hunched over one of them, throwing up her earlier meal as Momma rubs her back.
Morsa is crying as well, babbling about how much she loves Momma and the team and playing with her. She looks back to give Momma heart eyes but notices you by the doorway.
"I love you too, princesse," She cries," You're so small and I love you so much. You used to fit in my arms, do you remember? Come here, I can still hold you like that. I'll show you."
"Magda," Momma says in warning," Absolutely not. You're-"
Momma's interrupted by Morsa throwing up again and you wrinkle your nose in disgust.
"Go back out, please," Momma says to you," I'm looking after Morsa."
"I'm tired," You whine, stomping your foot," Can we go home?"
Momma looks at Morsa and nods. "Go back out to Millie please," She says," And tell her that we're going to go home."
"Okay!"
You're not actually tired but you do want to go home because you think if you stay here then Morsa will keep drinking and keep throwing up.
You find Millie easily, slipping into the booth again as she comes back with your sprite.
"Momma says we're leaving now," You tell her," Because Morsa is nearly done throwing up her dinner."
Millie winces. "Yeah, Magda might have overdone it today. Let me grab you a bowl for her."
Morsa hobbles out into the car, hunched over as you dutifully carry the bowl from Millie in your hands.
"In the front, Magda," Momma orders but Morsa refuses.
"Sit with our baby! She's gotten so big! Let me sit with our baby!"
"No, Magda," Momma says," In the front and if you don't throw up on the way home then you can give Princesse cuddles when we get home."
"Fine."
Morsa finally gets in the passenger seat.
(She doesn't get her cuddle at all because as soon as Momma turns on the car, she throws up everywhere).
Where's Don Lino?
Summary: Our trio have some time to themselves since they're left to there own devices while Their presence on the living island gets is bring discussed.
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Mutant!TigerShark!Reader
[AU Masterlist] Arc 2: [Part 1] [Part 2] This is Part 3
Warning(s): Getting into some more subtle notes of discrimination, but no violence....and strong language I'm pretty sure.
Note(s): We got another chapter for Arc 2 bud! Reading this back, I just think it's funny that every single body is uncomfortable with this situation except for Jaws. They're just vibing and going with the flow. Except that doesn't really work when the situation surrounding them requires Jaws to be more cognizant...Anteeways, I hope y'all enjoy :3
Once you, Natasha, Wanda, Sienna, and the others make it to the heart of Enoka, you all are immediately taken to Sienna’s office.
It turns out that Sienna is now one of the “acting leaders” on the island, specifically the one in charge of the security of it.
Enoka essentially runs itself, she just has a number of people in charge of the maintenance of the island and the people living on it.
These acting leaders were going to take time to deliberate and come to a course of action in terms of your presence on the hidden isle.
The “acting leaders” make up something called the Council of Nine, which is basically their government on Enoka outside of Enoka herself.
With a warning from Sienna to stay out of trouble in the meantime, the three of you left the council room while she stayed to explain the situation in full to the others inside. Natasha’s gait was unusually hesitant as you walked. “So the island is…alive?”
You chuckled as you reached for her hand in a soothing gesture. “You can relax, Natty. Enoka hasn’t physically moved in centuries. Once we’re born, we’re taught that she uses all of the plants covering the land to speak to us, kinda like mini speakers everywhere. The council of Nine just carry out her will more directly.”
Natasha’s shoulders relaxed slightly as the three of you made it back out into the open air. It was a relief you were able to convince Sienna to let the three of you leave on your own without an escort. This way, the three of you could spend time together and actually make use of your vacation time.
You briefly squeezed Natasha’s hand before you took it upon yourself to put the wind back in all of your sails. “Now who wants to see some real cool shit?” Wanda nor Natasha were definitely more receptive to the lighter turn of events, what with your enthusiasm being as contagious as it was reassuring.
Even with all of the visible changes to Enoka, you are actually excited to show Natasha and Wanda around the parts that you do remember.
Remember the core of the cruise/expedition/vacation was based around getting closure on your previously thought to be GONE home.
So in a way we’re doing that just with extra steps-
The natural energon produced by the Enoka herself contained in all of the foliage is used as a medium for the living island to communicate through. Kinda like mini speakers all over the island.
You simply have to start listening…
Speaking of, there was fuzzy gibberish that Wanda was able to pick up on. The tone of it led the brunette to zone out from time to time as she attempted to understand what she was hearing.
You took them up to one of the summits called the Hollow Point, that has a cavern on the side of it. Inside the Hollow Point are a series of mines for iron, but the biggest area has a ceiling of glittering quartz geodes.
Once your stomachs began protesting the long exploration the three of you were on, you wound up being led back to the more populated area of Enoka to get something to eat.
The only problem with going further into the localized area of the island is that there were more eyes on the three of you.
Enoka is an island full of people with extra abilities and features, people born like you and Sienna; an island exclusively of mutants.
The citizens of Enoka see Wanda and Natasha as outsiders, yes, but they can also immediately tell that Natasha specifically is human.
Sienna was also not afraid to remind her of this on their way to Enoka.
You came across one of Sienna’s guardsmen as you walked down the beaten path. She seemed to be heading in the same direction the three of you were walking in. The woman was clearly still on duty with her silvery blonde hair and suntanned skin mostly hidden under her armor.
Wanda took the initiative to start a conversation by waving her hand in the other woman’s line of sight. “Excuse me,” The blonde glanced in Wanda’s direction, but didn’t really look at her. “Did you need something?”
Her accented voice was softer than any of you expected, but Wanda continued undeterred,  “Is there a place to eat down this way?”
The guardsmen didn’t respond right away, “Assuming that you want something on the surface,” She briefly eyed Natasha, “There’s a Brine-Baker down this trail on your right. You cannot miss it.”
Wanda gave a small smile, “Thank you…I don’t think we got your name before.”
The woman simply stared at Wanda before squinting.  “I didn’t give it.” There was a small upturn in her lips, “It’s Zal.” She turned to face forward again before taking her leave, effectively ending the brief conversation.
With the three of you making your way down to the Brine-Baker, your eyes widened at the building. “That’s what she was talking about. Come on, this stuff is great!” You almost dragged Natasha and Wanda into the establishment in your haste to get food to eat.
The BrineBaker’s hut was on the smaller side, but it was comfy enough. You found an empty booth for the three of you to sit at before looking at the menus that were already set in each booth. There were options ranging from saltfish, mussels, crab, shrimp, octopus, and even hagfish, to pretzels, salted caramel pies, dark chocolate tarts, and peanut brittle.
Natasha looked away from the menu, “I take it all the salted foods are why it’s called Brine-Baker?”
Having already chosen what you were going to get, you set your menu down. “Brine-Bakers are seafood shops/diners that specialize in serving dishes made with their harvest from the brine pools under Enoka in the deep sea. Brine Pool Farming is actually a profession here as far as I know, since you had a good few people on the island that were unaffected by the pressure of going so deep underwater.”
Natasha took another look at the menu with that explanation. “All these creatures get put in these brine pools? They have to be pretty big I imagine,”
You nodded along, “Sea creatures get big as hell the deeper you go, but they don’t last long in the pools, since they’re even bigger. We weren’t allowed to play anywhere near them as kids cuz we’d probably fuck around and ‘get stuck and die’.” You briefly chuckled at the familiar threat you heard as a child. “Once they’re in the brine pool for long enough, the salt forms a shell coating around them, preserving the creature inside. You just gotta pay attention when they’re ready to be taken out. It’s not as salty as you’d expect though, it’s just the way it’s prepared.”
Wanda closed her menu after picking what she wanted to eat. “Well, you learn something new every day.” She stacked all three of the menus on top of each other, “So are we all ready to order?” With the three of you ready, you called over an available waiter to take your order...
Not gonna lie, that food was scrumptious. And very filling.
After the three of you ate, you walked around the more isolated parts of the island since it seemed that you were still left to your own devices.
You were currently making your way through one of the denser forests. You wanted to see if there were any remaining flower fields on the surface that you could show Wanda and Natasha.
The fuzzy noise Wanda was hearing was louder around her as she zoned out once again. You and Natasha noticed this once again before both of you asked what was going on.
 Wanda’s eyes focus on one of the thicker trees with her eyes slightly squinted. “I haven’t stopped hearing this faint gibberish since we got here…”
Natasha stopped to listen out for said gibberish, “I don’t hear anything, and no one else seems to be around.”
You turned to look at the brunette with your brows slightly furrowed, “What kinda gibberish is it?” Rather than try to explain what she was hearing, Wanda just mentally projected it to you as best as she could.
{Solt hclid, --rwe ve-- u-- en--. Solt hclid,  oml---- --o rhee}
“Well It makes sense, since you can read minds and all…” The partial translation you were able to get just made you confused as you tried to piece the rest of it together. One thing was clear though, “Enoka’s calling out to you. She doesn’t project very often, since I don’t think there are other telepaths on this island that can reach her by themselves,”
Wanda attempted to digest what you’d just explained. It was one thing to have someone mentally project to her, as she hasn’t come across anyone else with telepathic abilities, but for it to be an entity that they were currently standing on threw her for a loop. And it presumably wanted her to respond.“Why would the island be calling out to me?”
To you, there were a few other things to consider, but you continued your musings aloud. “You’ll have to meet Her in person at some point. Both of you will probably,”
“Both of us?” Natasha watched as you gingerly picked a flower off of one of the taller exposed stems on the path.
“It’s cool that Wanda can hear Enoka directly, but neither of you are able to understand Her or anyone else on the isle because she hasn’t gifted you with her energon. All Enokan plants have it, but the sap from her main vessel should allow you to speak and understand the mother tongue. We should’ve brought you there first, really.”
Wanda and Natasha shared an uncertain look with each other before Wanda spoke up. “I don’t think that that’s a good idea, gup.”
You look back at them, confusion plain on your face. “Why not? You need to understand what’s going on if we’re gonna spend any amount of time here, and I can’t teach it to you two until you have that foundation. I don’t think you want me playin’ translator for all three of us.” You chuckled at that idea before you realized you were the only one laughing. “What’s up with you two?”
To you this was a simple problem with an even simpler solution:
Natasha and Wanda are suffering from a language barrier, you know how to get rid of said barrier,  so that’s what you should do.
Your excitement is what blinds you to most of Natasha and Wanda’s trepidation at even being on Enoka.
But why are these two so standoffish to be there even though they were just as adamant to go on this vacation? WELL there’s a number of reasons:
This was not originally part of the plan.
While they’re glad to actually visit your home, Natasha and Wanda exclusively have not had the most warm welcome from, not only Sienna and her troops, but also from the other citizens of Enoka.
The Enokan language is not just a cultural difference in language, but it also acts as a security for everyone that lives on this (again) hidden island.
Freely giving Wanda and Natasha a clearly exclusive buff is not a good idea, nor would they probably be allowed had that idea reached the ears of anyone else…
Tumblr media
** footnote: I wanted to use a completely different script for the Enokan language being spoken, but I couldn’t find a way to import it so that it was shown, so instead I made a simple code using typoglycemia (aka just unscramble the letters of each word). To make it so that it didn’t look as clunky, I sometimes replaced (i) with (y). Some words that end with vowels may have an apostrophe that takes the place of the vowel. Apostrophes can also be found at the beginning of words with vowels for fluidity’s sake. I didn’t think swears should be scrambled cuz that just *looks* off to me. The point of these changes is to have this resemble a spoken language more than it is a blatant tactic to confuse you.
Here's a word unscrambler in case you need it
Sins of the Family
Tumblr media
Part 3 of Family and Pawns
Warnings: car accident, mention of death and grief, kidnapping, implied sexual assault, mention of suicide, suicidal thoughts, mention of past sexual assault, death, usage of a fire arm, angst with a happy ending, everyone needs a hug and no one is okay
Note: This is maybe the last story of this AU unless I get a request for another part.
Word Count: 10k (I don't want to talk about how long this)
“Cooper!” You shirked as the eldest Barton shot you with a water gun. It was an all out water war between you, Tommy, and Billy against the three Bartons plus Kate and Yelena. The twins thought it was unfair that the two Avengers were on the same time but the Black Widow has to remind them that they were enhanced, they did it so the teams would be more even. Speaking of your brother, Tommy ran behind Cooper and dumped a bucket of water on him. Before the eldest Barton could turn around, he was gone.
“Hey!” He whipped the water out of his eyes. “I thought we said no powers.” Tommy appeared next to you.
“That’s what you get for targeting our sister,” he held up his fist and you pumped it against his.
“Kids, lunch is ready.” Laura called out. You liked Iowa. It was quiet, peacefully, and the Bartons were welcoming. You sat next to Nate with a towel wrapped around your shoulders. Natasha warned you that the youngest Barton would probably be quiet, still processing the death of his father.
“So, what do you want to do after we eat?” You asked. He shrugged, biting into his hot dog. It was just you and the young boy at the table while everyone was pilling food onto their plate. “Can I tell you a secret?” You whispered to him. Nate slowly nodded his head. “It’s okay to be happy and still miss you.” You saw his little body tense up but he still refused to look at you. “It’s okay to be angry with him,” you continued. “And still love him.” A small whimper left his mouth and your heart broke for him. You wished you could take away all of his pain. You would take it all away if you could.
“It’s okay to be angry with Nat and be glad she’s alive because he is no longer here.” It was like the dame broke. You saw his body shake as quiet tear fell down his cheeks. You panicked, body frozen as he dropped his hot dog and climbed onto your lap. His face pushed against your damp shirt and you felt his tears. You glanced up and saw Laura, wide eyes and about to walk over to her emotionally distraught son but you held up her hand to stop her. “I’m going to pick up. Okay, buddy?” He tightened his grip on you. You stood up from the table, your towel fell to the ground, and you walked over to the swing that was handing from the tree.
This was what he needed. Someone to let himself cry without adding to their own grief. So you let him cry against you as you pushed yourself on the swing. “I’m sorry,” he said once his tears stopped. You forced him to look at you. There was snot running down his nose and his cheeks were blotchy.
“Hey, little man, it’s okay to cry. It’s okay for your feelings to be all over the place but we are here for you. Whatever you need,” he nodded and rested his head back on your chest.
“Does it get easier?” That was the million dollar question. You met an older lady while you took a walk during your lunch. She asked about your family not knowing the truth. While she learned about your parents, she told you about her late husband. You asked her the same question. She told you a metaphor that her therapist told her. Your grief was like a red button instead a box with a ball that rolled around. Since the grief was newer the ball would hit the button all the time, no matter what you were doing your grief was powerful. You felt it in everything you did.
Over time, the box got bigger and the grief stayed the same size but it wouldn’t hit the button all the time. You sighed, kissing the crown of his head. “Yeah,” you whispered. “It gets easier.”
*
“Remember,” Wanda said, glancing at you and the twins. “Billy, you need to bring in your permission slip. Tommy, we have to go to the mall and get you new shoes,” the twins nodded their heads. “And you have a meeting with the home school agency. Did you finish your essay?” You glanced over the book you were reading. The trip to Iowa was done and it was time to head back to reality which meant starting home school. The couple asked if you wanted to attend another school but the incident with Henry and Coach Griffo made you lose faith in the schooling system. Home school was the best option for you and they agreed.
“I finished it before we left for Iowa.”
“Atta girl,” Natasha winked at you from the driver’s seat.
“Nerd,” Tommy mumbled with a smile on his face. You rolled your eyes, bumping your shoulder against his.
“Dork,” you countered. You were an only child for the longest time it was such a nice change to mess with someone.
“Children,” Natasha warned but before she could continue her scolding. You heard the impact before you felt in. Instinct kicked in and you braced yourself for the impact, your body tensed with fear.
The collision was violent, the force of the impact threw you forward. You felt the searing pain shoot through your body. For a moment, everything seemed to spin, the world titled at an impossible angle. The sound of the twins screams echoed in your ears. Once the car settled, your vision was blurry but you saw Wanda and Natasha with their heads to the side. They weren’t moving. You tried to look at the twins but a sheering pain caused black spots to cover your vision. A soft whimper left your lips and the world went dark.
*
You heard a soft voice calling out to you. She was saying your name over and over again to urge you to wake up. You were so tired. It seemed easier to keep your eyes closed and sleep but the voice was persistent, a little annoying. It kept getting louder and louder until it was impossible to ignore. “Mama,” you gasped awake. Your chest was heaving, eyes darted around the foreign room. You groaned softly as the pain of the car accident caught up with you. You took a few deep breaths to calm yourself down. Your hands were cuffed to metal chains that were attached to the wall. The room was four walls with two doors; one of them was boarded up with wood.
In the corner, you saw Tommy. His hands were free from restraint but a collar was around his neck. “Tommy,” you called out. “Tommy, wake up.” You said a bit louder. Still he laid still, on his stomach. “Come on. This isn’t funny wake up,” you pleaded, desperation oozing from each word. Finally, he groaned. “Oh thank you,” you said, your head leaning back against the wall.
“My head hurts,” he wined, rolling onto his back. It took a moment but he sat up quickly. “What happened?”
“We were in a car accident. I don’t know where we are,” he stumbled to his feet. “Easy,” but he ignored you, wrapped his hands around the chains, and pulled. They weren’t moving. “Tommy, stop. You are going to hurt yourself.” He shook his head.
“I can get you out,” he pulled at them again. “I can get us out and we can go home!” He fell to his butt with a huff. “What’s around your neck?”
“Probably the same thing around yours,” Tommy reached around his neck to touch the collar. You stood up and found out you could reach the mattress but not the door. You sat down and opened your arms, there was a sharp pain in your shoulder. Tommy took the opportunity to lay in your lap.
“They are going to find us,” he looked up at you. “Right?”
“Yeah,” you smiled. “Or we’ll get out of here by our self.”
*
Natasha was barely listening to Sam as he spoke with local police and Yelena and Kate were looking at the car crash. Her eyes were on her wife and Billy as they sat on the back of an ambulance. The EMT was cleaning a cut on Billy’s head and his arm was in a sling to help his shoulder. Wanda seemed untouched but Natasha had a faint memory of her wife’s magic wrapping around the car before she blacked out. She wanted Helen to do a check up on him when they were done here. “Thank you officer,” Sam said. Natasha turned back into the conversation. “Are you sure you don’t want to get checked out?”
“I’m fine,” she wasn’t really. It was taken every fiber in her body to not lose it. Her daughter and son were taken right from underneath her nose. By focusing on the pain radiating through her body she wasn’t going to lose her cool. Her sister and Kate walked over to them. “What do we know?” She asked.
“It was one van that hit your car,” Kate handed her a tablet with a feed of the car accident. “Then two more vans showed up and took Y/n and Tommy.” Natasha watched as two men existed their car and ran to the back of the car to get you and Tommy. Why didn’t they take Billy?
“The plates were stolen but we are having Peter check out the original owners,” Yelena said, taking the tablet from Natasha. “We know this was planned. They never looked at the camera so we can’t run facial recognition..”
“So we have nothing on who took my kids.”
“We will find them, Nat,” Sam said. “You have my word but we need to get you, Wanda, and Billy back to the tower where it’s safe. We don’t know if they’ll come back,” that made Natasha’s blood run cold. She couldn’t let them take anyone else.
“Okay,” she said.
“Kate and I will drive you back,” Natasha nodded and walked over to the ambulance. Her body ached but she put on a smile as she got closer.
“Hey bud,” she whispered. “How are you?” Billy shrugged, not looking up at the Black Widow. Natasha frowned, looking at the witch. ‘He hasn’t spoken,’ Wanda’s voice echoed in her head. Natasha nodded. “We are gonna head to the tower with Auntie Lena and Aunt Kate, okay?” Billy nodded, jumping off the back and head over to his aunts. But the young boy didn’t reach out for comfort from his aunts. Instead, he walked right past them to the car. Natasha sighed, feeling her wife grab her hand.
“You haven’t gotten checked out, moya lyubov’ (my love),” Wanda said.
“I’m fine,” but she knew she couldn’t lie to Wanda as easily as she did with Sam. Wanda stopped walked. “Wanda-” Natasha pleaded.
“This is not your fault, okay?” Natasha looked at her sister. Yelena was leaning against the car, trying to get Billy to talk. “And I will remind you that at every step. We will find them and Billy will be okay,” Natasha surged forward capturing Wanda’s lips into a kiss. The kiss was frantic, messy as Natasha hung onto Wanda.
“I can’t lose you,” she whispered against Wanda’s lips.
“You won’t. I’m here. I’m right here.”
You let Tommy fall asleep, resting between your legs and you ran your fingers through his hair. You wanted to close your eyes and sleep but you couldn’t. What if when you closed your eyes and the door opened and they came in to take your brother? So you sat and replayed moments in your head. The first time you met the Romanoff-Maximoff family and the night the couple told you they wanted to adopt you. They were going to find you. Until then you had to be strong and protect Tommy.
Finally, you heard the door unlock and slowly open. The sound caused Tommy to stir awake but you kept your arms around him as 3 men walked in; two were carrying bowls. “Food,” the man up front said. He was Russian and the men behind him set the bowls near the mattress. But you both didn’t move. “You are going to need your strength.”
“What do you want with us?” You asked. He didn’t answer, instead he gestured to the man on his left and he walked over to you. He ribbed Tommy from your arms. “No!” You jumped to your feet but the man held your brother by his throat and put a gun to his temple. “Please don’t hurt him.” Tommy struggled against his capture but it made no difference.
“Let me make myself perfectly clear,” he stepped forward. “When I say you eat, you eat. When I say jump, you ask how high. Your brother’s life is my hands, do you understand my malen’kaya ten’ (little shadow)?” You glanced at Tommy.
“I understand,” the man holding your brother threw him to the ground. Before you could help, the man grabbed onto your chin to force you to look at him.
“He is collateral,” he said. “I won’t hesitate to kill him if you disobey me.” You nodded and he let you go. You ran over to Tommy and he assured you he was okay as the three men left.
“Do you know them?” He asked. You shook your head. You didn’t, you’ve never seen those men in your life.
“But he definitely knew me,” you sat back on the mattress with the bowl. It was a soup of some kind.
“He called you little shadow,” he said, sitting next to you with his bowl in his lap. Little shadow. Your spoon stopped in mid air. You hadn’t thought about that nickname in months since Jason was killed. “Do you want this?” He asked, holding up his bowl. “I don’t like it.” You laughed at the scrunch of his nose.
“Eat it,” you said, taking a spoonful of your own. It wasn’t bad just bland compared to Wanda’s flavorful cooking. “I think he’s right when he said we’ll need our strength.”
Wanda hated this. This intense feeling of worthlessness as she had no idea where her son and daughter were or who took them. She couldn’t even help her other son who hasn’t spoken or eaten since the accident. He was shutting her out and that scared her even more. “But why not take all three of your kids?” Maria asked. The available Avengers met at the tower to come together to find you and Tommy. They were in the conference room while Pepper and Happy watched Billy and Morgan. She hated being away from him but he didn’t need to be here for this. “If they want to hurt you, why did they just take Y/n and Tommy?” It was a good question and one Wanda couldn’t answer. Natasha and her made a lot of enemies throughout their time as Avengers. The list was long.
“Maybe it’s not about us,” Natasha said, picking at the skin around her thumb. Wanda grabbed her hand to stop her. “Have we found anything about Jason?” Tony pulled up the hologram of the man that took advantage of you. The sight still made Wanda’s blood boil.
There wasn’t much they knew about the man that could help them. Only child, whose parents divorced when he was a kid, and his father was in and out of rehab facilities. He was in extreme debt and unemployed. At his last job, he suffered a shoulder injury which allowed him to cash in disability checks.
“What about her parents?” Yelena asked. “Jason must have known them. There was no way them meeting was a coincidence,” she had a good point. Tony put up two holograms of your parents. You rarely spoke about them. Maybe it hurt to much to think about them. Your parents were Daniel and Harper. In 2018, two months after Thanos exterminated half of all living things. Harper was diagnosed with cancer. It seemed so unfair how much pain your family was subjected to in a short amount of time. Your mother was a house keeper while your father worked in construction. They were living pay check to paycheck since Harper was out of work while she received treatment from a Dr. Joshua Harris. Unfortunately, Harper’s treatment wasn’t successful. She passed away. Your father took his own life two months after his wife passed. In three years, you would return and your parents were gone.
“We are missing something,” Natasha stood up suddenly. “If they were being blackmailed or were involved in something there wouldn’t be a paper trail.”
“Nat is right,” Sam said. “Yelena, Kate go talk to Harper‘s doctor maybe he can tell us something.” The duo stood up to leave the room, Yelena squeezed Natasha’s shoulder before they left. “Peter, Maria, and Bucky will try to find an angel on ().” A plan was made. It wasn’t a lot but it was something. Natasha and Wanda left to go find Billy. He was laying on the couch, watching Morgan play with her dolls.
“Hey,” Wanda said, sitting down next to him. “Have you eaten anything?” He shook his head.
“Why don’t I make some mac and cheese?” Natasha suggested. Billy brightened up slightly.
“And a hot dog,” The Black Widow smiled.
“Anything for you, bud,” she walked into the kitchen.
“How are you feeling? Does anything hurt?” Helen gave all three of them a clean bill of health besides the normal ache and pains. Bill frowned, moving to rest his head on her lap. “Talk to me, dorogoy (sweetheart). Please.” She ran her fingers through his hair.
“I can’t feel them, mam,” he whispered. “I keep trying but I don’t know where they are. I-,” his voice cracked. “That’s what hurts mama. I want them home.” Wanda saw the signs of Billy’s powers getting out of control. They were similar in that sense when their emotions got overwhelming their powers were unpredictable. It was a work in process to help him contain it. The witch forced Billy to sit up and moved him so he sat on her lap, his chest against hers.
“Breath, Billy. I need you to breath.”
“I can’t,” he gasped and his hands twisted in the fabric of Wanda’s shirt.
“Yes, you can,” Wanda kept her voice soft. She watched Natasha walk over with the plate of food. She almost dropped it at the state of Billy was in. “Your mom and I got you,” Wanda held out her hand for Natasha to grab. She put the food down and took her hand. Gently, Wanda placed Natasha’s hand on their son’s back and traced soothing circles. “Just focus on us.” Wanda began to hum, a simple lullaby she would sign to them when they were babies. It seemed to work. She felt Billy slump against her and his breathing calmed down.
“You are doing so good, bud.” Natasha said, locking eyes with Wanda. If there was one thing Wanda loved about Natasha it was her eyes. They were so expressive. Even when her face was so stoic, her eyes gave away so much.
“It’s okay,” Wanda smiled. “Everything is going to be okay.” She said it for all three of them. Everything was going to be okay.
When the door opened again, you and Tommy were playing Concentration. It was the same man from before. He walked over to you, twirling a key in his hand. He grabbed onto your hands and unlocked the cuffs. “Come with me,” you rubbed at your wrists. “Both of you.” You stood up and the two men grabbed Tommy. “You can call me, Dmitri, okay?” He put his arm around your shoulder as the two men walked out of the room. “We had a mutual friend. Do you know who?” Outside the room, you call tell you were in an abounded hospital. Empty beds with rusted frames sat against the peeling walls, the mattresses long gone or decayed. The air was heavy with the scent of dust and decay. The doors that weren’t locked shut were hanging off the hinges. Your small group weren’t the only ones in the hallway but the ignored you, focused on their task of cleaning.
At the nurse station, the desk was covered in a thick layer of dust, and the files lie scattered and forgotten. Some of the signs still hung on the wall but were faded, their messages no longer conveyed a feeling of hope.
“Jason,” you finally replied.
“Oh she is smart,” he teased. “He was a good man, more loyal to his cock then the cause,” he squeezed your shoulder and the soup you ate turned in your stomach. They brought you into a room. It was a stark contrast to the rest of the hospital. The room was well kept with multiple screens and a generator in the corner. There were weapons scattered against the tables set up. It was eerily silent besides a man typing away at the computer. Your brother was forced into a chair and metal restraints were put on his legs and arms. “Are you ready for your mission, malen’kaya ten’?” You glanced at Tommy.
“I am,” you whispered. Dmitri handed you a tactical suit, similar to the one you’ve seen Natasha ware.
“Change into this,” you took it from him and hesitated. “Change now.” Your hands shook as you took off the clothes you decided to wear on the trip home from the Bartons, simple tracksuit that Kate bought for you. You weren’t blind to the way Dmitri’s eyes racked up and down your body. His footsteps moved behind you and he grabbed the zipper and zipped it up. His hands landed on your shoulders. “Good girl,” Dmitri whispered the name as if it was a secret for only you and him. The name caused your stomach to turn. “This is for you,” it was a com and you put it in your ear. “You and I are going for a little ride and you will listen to every word I say,” he grabbed your chin and forced you to look at Tommy. The sudden movement caused you to stumble into him and his free arm wrapped around your waist, trapping you from moving. “If you don’t your baby brother’s brains will be splattered all over that wall.”
“I understand,” you said. “Can I give him a hug?” He thought about it.
“Make it quick. I’m not a monster,” You walked over to Tommy and hugged him tight.
“Don’t do anything stupid,” you whispered.
“Same to you,” you kissed the top of his head and walked over to the man. He said he wasn’t a monster but that was up for some debate. Delete Created with Sketch.
“Where are we going?” You asked. He blindfolded you the minute he lead you out of the building. Being in the backseat of a car was nauseating as you tried to make sense of the turns but it was impossible.
“We are almost there,” your leg began to shake but you felt his hand on your thigh. Automatically your body tensed up. “It’s okay, malen’kaya ten’, I won’t hurt you.”
“You see why I find it hard to believe,” you said. “I thought Jason wasn’t going to hurt me and we both know how that ended.” He removed his hand and your body relaxed.
“We’re here,” the car stopped and blindfold was removed from your eyes. The sun caused you to wince and it took a minute for your eyes to adjust to the harsh light. “We are at the office of Dr. Harris,” you didn’t recognize the name. “You are going to sneak into his office and place this listening device somewhere he won’t find it,” you took the device from him. “Then you will use this on his computer and it will copy all of the files, it will take 15 seconds.”
“How do you expect me to sneak in with this stupid collar on?” You asked. He pulled out a key and took it off. A weight that was on your chest was lifted off. He put a small camera on your chest.
“Remember what I have,” you sighed.
“I do,” you fazed through the car. You kept your powers on as you walked over to the office and walked through the door. You stood in a small entry way with a door in front of you and on your right. A metal sign displayed each specialties the office offered. Dr. Harris’ office was through the door in front of you and he was a medical oncologist. You frowned, ignored the tight knot that formed in your stomach, and moved onto the next door.
It was a simple waiting room, there was a few patients in the chairs. the receptionist was speaking with a young woman through the glass that separated them. The patient had a beanie that covered her head. It was no use to stay and listen to the conversation that was happening so you moved past the nurse that opened the door to call the next patient.
Lucky, there was signs that pointed you in the right direction. However, your feet stopped when you passed a large open area. There was a nurse station on one wall and spread across the room were chairs; some empty. But the people that were in those chairs were attached to IVs. Curiously, you walked towards the nurse station and read the pamphlets they had out. 20 different recipes to eat try during Chemotherapy. What is radiation? How to overcome it? You were in a cancer center.
‘Ah,’ Dmitri said. ‘I forgot you weren’t around to see your mommy sub come to the horrible disease,’ When you were younger, your parents saved enough money to take you to Cooney Island. All the kids at school talked about riding a roller coaster and how cool it was. So you were anxious to go on it. You were nervous and your parents kept saying you did not have to go on it. That no matter what you were their brave girl. You went on it and hated every second of it. The way your stomach dropped at each turn made you sick. You were experiencing that same feeling now. ‘Continue, my little shadow,’ he said. ‘His office is down the hall.’ You nodded and walked that way. The sooner you were done, the faster you could be back with Tommy, safe in the 4 wall cell. Safe wasn’t the correct word you would use but it was better than be separated. You fazed through the doctor’s door. He was sitting at his desk, typing away at his computer. Bookshelf’s were behind him, decorated with pictures of different families. ‘You are gonna have to get him to leave.’ You rolled your eyes. Easier said then done, you thought, how the hell were you going to do that?
As if someone heard your prayer a knock came to the doctor’s door. “Come in,” you moved to the corner as the door opened and the receptionist you saw enter.
“Two Avengers are here to speak with your,” you froze and stomach flipped. Avengers. Two Avengers were here. Your family. ‘Don’t,’ the man hissed in your ear. ‘Don’t forget what I have.’ Oh you didn’t but maybe you could get their attention.
“Of course, please send them right in,” the doctor stood up and straightened the white coat he was wearing. The door opened wider as Kate and Yelena walked in.
“Dr. Harris,” Kate said, extending her hand for the doctor to take. “Kate Bishop and this is Yelena Belova. Thank you for meeting us.” The doctor shook her hand. He went to shake Yelena’s but the blonde refused and sat down in the chair.
“Of course. Anything I can do to help the Avengers,” he sat down and kept his eyes mostly on Kate. You could tell he was intimidate by the Black Widow. You had to stop yourself from laughing. You moved to the window ledge and leaned against it. “What is this about?”
“A former patient of yours,” Kate said. “Does the name Harper Myers ring a bell?” That was your mom’s name. Your stomach dropped. It had been a long time since you’ve heard someone say it.
“The Myers,” he spun around in his chair to look at his wall of pictures. He stood up to grab a frame and looked it over before handing it over to Kate with a sad smile. “They were lovely people,” you walked over to the couple as Kate handed the photo to Yelena. “They had a daughter that I never got to meet her.” You looked at the picture over Yelena’s shoulder. It was a picture of your mom, dad, and you as a baby. They took you o a local mall to see Santa Claus. You were crying, not very happy that a stranger was holding you. Yelena handed the photo back to the doctor but turned to look over her shoulder. Her eyes bore into yours and you held your breath.
“Can you tell us about the Myers?” Kate asked. Yelena turned around slowly. You let out a shaky breath and walked back to the widows. ‘You are toeing a dangerous line,’ Dmitri hissed in your ear.
“The Myers were hardworking people. Harper was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2018. It was a miracle she survived as long as she did.” You clenched your jaw and crossed your arms, hugging yourself for some sort of comfort.
“Did you notice any abnormal behavior?” Kate asked. “Besides the obvious going through a cancer diagnosis.” The doctor leaned forward, resting his hands on his chin.
“I take patient confidentiality very seriously,” he said. “Even after death, they are entitled to the same level of respect. So I will ask again, what is this about?”
“Their daughter was kidnapped,” it was the first time Yelena has spoken. “We are searching every possible option to find her.” You watched the doctor’s face pale.
“Is this about the money?” The couple glanced at each other.
“What money?” The doctor sighed and pulled open a drawer. It took him a moment to find what he was looking for. Soon he handed the couple a folder.
“They were struggling financially to cover the cost of the treatment,” you stayed still not wanting to alert Yelena again. “Daniel’s job offered insurance but it barely covered the cost of the treatment plan Harper would need. Out billing department told them they then they came to me and refused treatment. I pleaded with them to reconsider, that I would help them find a way to pay for it. But they refused,” he sighed. Kate placed the file back on his desk.
“But they got the money?” She questioned. The doctor nodded.
“They came back two days later and said they liked to continue with the treatment. I believe Daniel said they got the money from his sister who passed away.” You frowned. Your dad was an only child.
“Did not find that suspicious?” The blonde asked.
“Of course I did but my job is try to save patients lives. I find the monetary part of my job pointless. If I could give treatment to everyone free of charge then I would.”
“Thank you for your time doctor,” Kate said. “Can you show us to your billing department?” Dr. Harris stood up without a word and walked to the door. The couple followed him but Yelena hesitated and looked towards you. “Sweetheart,” the archer said. “Are you okay?” Yelena nodded.
“Yeah,” she said. “Just,” you know I’m here, you thought, I’m here. I’m here. “It’s nothing.” The Black Widow grabbed her hand. Once they left, Dr. Harris closed the door.
‘Hurry up,’ Dmitri said. You walked over his desk and placed the flash drive into the tower. You watched as a loading boar appeared on the screen and began to count up.
“What are you doing?” You asked. The man laughed.
‘We found you through the lovely doctor,’ he said. ‘Can you imagine who else we can have? Especially when hundreds of families are as desperate as yours were.’ The bar was full and you pulled the flash drive out. ‘You did well,’ he said as you walked through the doctor’s door. ‘I’m impressed with your level of submission,’ he chuckled. ‘I thought you’d fight more.’
You wanted to fight. You wanted to kick and scream and go home but how could you. You were tied down to Dmitri as he held your brother over your head. You moved through the front door but stopped.
“We could follow the money,” Kate said. “Have FRIDAY trace the account.” The Black Widow nodded. “Hey, what’s wrong? You’ve been off.” Yelena sighed.
“We are no closer to finding her,” she admitted. “I’m worried.” Your heartbeat pounded in your ears. There was a part of you that feared they would hear it.
‘Move,’ he ordered but you couldn’t. ‘I will kill him.’ He would. You knew he could but your feet felt glued to the spot. ‘One more chance or your brother’s brains will be all over the wall.’
“We will bring her home,” Kate smiled. “Then we’ll never let her go.” They made the choice for you as the couple walked over to where their car was parked. You sighed, finally walking over to the van. The door opened and you materialized as he grabbed you and pulled in. He pinned you to the opposite door, hand loosely around your neck. You felt his breath on your face. “Do you need to be taught a lesson?” The pressure of his hand tightened on your throat. It was getting harder to get air through your lungs.
“No,” you whispered. “No, sir. It won’t happen again.” You were transported back to whenever Jason was upset with you. You took the flash drive out of your pocket. “I did what you wanted,” you reminded him. His eyes flickered to yours and the flash drive. The pressure let up and you sucked in air. He tightened the collar back around your neck and took the flash drive from you. Before he pulled away from you, he kissed your cheek and whispered, “Good girl,” in your ear.
You felt sick, bile creeping up your throat as the car began to drive. It didn’t take long until you were blindfolded again and your leg started to shake.
“That’s all we get out of him,” Kate said, ending their debrief on what they found out about the doctor. It wasn’t a lot but Natasha was certain they found you and your family through the doctor. Sam must have agreed as the direction of the conversation shifted to find the link. But the Black Widow wasn’t listening even though it was important. Her attention was on her sister, who was abnormally quiet. She let Kate do a majority of the talking, adding a comment here or there. Now she was quiet, resting her hand on her chin. When the meeting was over, Yelena left quickly. “Hey,” Natasha called out to her. “What’s going on?” Yelena slowed down, allowing her to catch up.
“Something didn’t feel right while we were there,” Yelena said, glancing at her sister. “It was like,” she paused and Natasha allowed her the time to process her thoughts. “Like we were being watched.”
“Were they there?” Did the people who had you and Tommy know they would check there? Yelena sighed, shrugging her shoulders.
“Maybe I don’t know,” With your and Tommy’s enhancements, you were a deadly combination. “It doesn’t hurt to scrub through security footage to find out.”
You heard your name being called out and your eyes fluttered open. Dmitri was back. For the first time, he was alone. His guard dogs weren’t insight. “How did you sleep?” He asked, handing you and Tommy a bowl of the same food you ate earlier.
“Well considering the circumstances,” you said, taking a bite. It tasted better than before. “What do we owe the pleasure?” He sat down in front of you, legs crossed and elbows resting on his knees.
“Your sister is pretty incredible,” he said to Tommy. Your brother leaned into your side. “She’s very protective over you, isn’t she?”
“She is,” Tommy whispered. The man smiled.
“What do you want?” You asked again.
“All will be explained but first eat,” you and Tommy both did as he asked and when your bowls were empty, you placed them down and he offered you his hand. Hesitantly, you took it and he pulled you to your feet. Unlike before he put his arm around Tommy and the 3 of you walked down the hallway. His hand was on your waist, a possessive grip that you couldn’t break away. When you entered the room before, his guard dogs were next to the chair. You changed into the suit, put the com in your ear, and hugged Tommy tight.
This time when you were brought to the car, there was no blind fold. Did he see your submissiveness as loyalty? You weren’t sure but the grip he had on you moved to your thigh instead of your hip. It was night but you couldn’t track the turns and stops with his hand on you. “Where are we going?” You finally asked.
“You’ll find out soon enough. Just relax,” he put his arm around your shoulder and pulled you into him. “Why are you so tense?” He asked. “Is this not okay?”
“It’s fine,” you tried to relax but your skin felt like it was burning. You let out a shaky breath and placed your arm on his thigh.
“You and I are going to do amazing things,” he said and tried to fight the shiver that ran down your spine.
“I don’t even know what your goal is,” he chuckled, resting his head on top of yours.
“Perform well tonight and I’ll tell you everything.”
The van stopped a block away from a warehouse. “There are 4 guards,” he showed you a security footage of instead the warehouse on a tablet. “I need you to go inside, disable and erase the security footage, kill the guards, and open the doors for our team.”
“Kill,” you whispered. The other things you could muddle through. But killing innocent people, you weren’t sure if you could do that. He handed you a pistol with a silencer. “I don’t kill people.” Each word you spoke shook with your nerves.
“You killed Jason,” that was true but that was out of self-defense. If you didn’t kill him, he was going to kill you. “It’s rather simple,” he maneuvered your hand to attach the gun to your hip. “But the gun to their heads,” he used his finger to lift your head. Your eyes locked onto his. “And blow their brains out. Simple.” There was nothing simple about it. “Are you ready?” You weren’t. All the color drained from your face. Could he hear how fast your heart was beating? “I asked if you were ready, my little shadow.” His face was in the crock of your neck. You felt the vibration of his words against your skin, causing your hairs to stand up. You weren’t ready. But if you failed or disobeyed what would happen? Would they go after Billy? Or maybe Nathaniel? Lila? Or Cooper? You couldn’t risk the safety of your family. His lips grazed your pulse. You nodded, licking your lips.
“I’m ready.”
“It’s the same van,” Natasha said to the Avengers with screenshots of traffic footage behind her. It took her, Yelena, and Kate hours to scrub through the footage. At first they found nothing but soon they noticed a black van, always changing license plates and they could never see the driver. They were good which worried Natasha. They weren’t amateur kidnappers. They were professionals but they made a mistake, well 2 mistakes. “The color of the van looks black but it isn’t. The color is sable and only 2 car shops in the city carry that color.”
“We pulled the records of those names and almost reached a dead end but Yelena found our connection,” the blonde smiled and changed the screen to a single white patch.
“What is that?” Maria asked.
“It’s a nicotine patch to help people quit smoking. A majority of them can be bought over the counter but others require a prescription,” Yelena explained. “We cross listed the list from the detail shops with those who have a prescription and he found,” the screen changed again to a man. “A Lucas Bennett.”
“Mr. Bennett has a history of gambling and drinking away his money but he also visited Dr. Harris.”
“Where is he now?” Sam questioned.
“FRIDAY is already pulling up current employers and addresses. It’s just a waiting game,” Natasha said, looking at Wanda. Her hand rested on her chin. “We find him he will lead us to Tommy and Y/n.” She said it convince Wanda and herself. They were so close to finding her other kids.
“Miss. Romanoff, I’ve located Mr. Bennett.” She looked at Sam.
“FRIDAY send us the location,” he said. “Avengers Assemble.”
*
You hated this. Your palms were sweat as you held the pistol. On quiet feet you walked through the warehouse to the first guard. A mantra echoed in your head and you were surprised it was Yelena’s voice- ‘I know exactly who you are. A hero. A protector. A sister.’ At this very moment, you didn’t feel like any of those things. A hero wouldn’t kill innocent men just doing their job. A protector would stand up to Dmitri and find a way to save Tommy. No, you were weak. A spineless fool. You put the barrel of the gun against the guard’s head, closed your eyes, and pulled the trigger. ‘Very good. One down,’ you opened your eyes and stared at the body at your feet. A pool of blood formed around his head. ‘Three more to go.’ You let out a shaky breath and tears formed at the corner of your eyes but you moved on, a job needed to be done.
When you lived with Jason, you were prone to dissociating. It allowed your mind to be protected while he raped you. You found yourself doing it now as if your mind was gone and your body moved on auto pilot. The two guards went down easily, their blood pooled on the floor and splattered on the wall they stood next to. In your ear, Dmitri praised you. Every time he called you ‘his good girl’ the little food in your stomach turn. ‘3 down, one to go.’ he said. ‘Good girl.’
You wanted to rip the com out of your ear, stomp on it. You wanted to go back in time and save those three men you murdered. To go back and stop the car accident but you couldn’t. So with the last guard that stood by the security office, you placed the barrel to the back of his head and pulled the rigger. His body slumped to the ground.
A few weeks ago, you woke up at three in the morning. With your throat dry and you were in desperate need of some water but the water bottle you had was empty. Kicking off the blankets, you braced the cold air of the house and headed to the kitchen. You expected it to be empty so you could fill your water bottle up and quickly go back to sleep. It wasn’t. Natasha was sitting at the kitchen counter and she appeared to be crying? Her sobs were muffled due to her hand being over her mouth but you saw her body shake. You remained frozen, not used to the scene in front of you. The normal level headed Black Widow was sobbing in the kitchen and were lost on what to do.
‘Mom,’ you made your presence known. She was startled, apologized, and asked if she woke you up. Instead of answering, you walked over to her and pulled her into a hug. You felt her body tense up but soon relaxed into you and cried. It could have been hours or maybe minutes but you held onto her tightly. Soon she pulled away and apologized again but you told her it was okay to cry. It was okay to not be strong all the time.
Instead of getting water, hot chocolate was made and you sat with her on the kitchen floor. You talked about everything.- her time in the Red Room, the red on her ledger, and the guilt she felt which lead her to working with SHIELD and the Avengers. Wanda found you and Natasha on the couch fast asleep the following morning.
But the conversation stuck with you and you found yourself thinking about it now while you stared at the body on the ground. There was more on your ledger. After all these years, Natasha was still trying to forgive herself. How long was it going to take you?
‘Hurry along.’ You nodded and fazed through the door to the security office. You plugged in the flash drive and watched the security footage delete, the alarm system turn off, and the metal garage door open. On cue, black vans entered the warehouse and men you didn’t recognize began to open the wooden boxes with crowbars.
“What are they looking for?” You asked, stepping out of the office. They paid no mind to you and continued on their work. You walked over to one of the men. Once the wooden box was open, he pulled out of a brief case. He placed a piece of tape over the finger print scanner and he opened it when it beeped.
“They are here, sir,” the man to Dmitri over his own com.
‘Perfect,’ you heard the smile in his voice. ‘My little shadow you did it!’ He was so proud of you but it filled you with fear. ‘Those pills are psylock. They enhance neural pathways to allow for manipulation,’ each word he spoke, sent a shiver down your spine. ‘Now we don’t also have to take baby brothers has collateral. Everyone will be good obedient soldiers,’ the world around you seem to blur.
“What are you planning?” You questioned. “Why are you building an army?” He scuffed.
‘The world is dirty A filthy, disgusting place so it needs to be rebuilt. You’ve seen the horrors of it. Together we can make it better,’ you had to stop yourself from laughing. This man wanted to make the world better when he was part of the problem. He contributed to the darkness. He was a monster not a savior.
Shooting pulled you out of your thoughts. You gripped the gun in your hand tighter as gun shots bounced off the walls. ‘Run back to me,’ Dmitri said but your feet remained frozen to the ground. You heard them. The voices of the Avengers. ‘Now!’ Still your hesitated when you locked eyes with familiar green ones.
“Mom,” you whispered. They found you. The relief was evident on her face but her eyes asked a question - where is your brother? You smiled, dropped the gun, and ran back to your capture. Ignoring the shouts of your name.
*
Natasha was losing her patience as she grabbed Lucas by the shoulder and throw him into an office chair. He was supporting a gun shot and she knew that wasn’t the only injury he was going to have tonight. “Let’s be honest with one another, okay?” She smiled, feeling her wife’s eyes on her back. The other Avengers were dealing with the other goons. Sam allowed Natasha, Yelena, and Wanda 10 minutes alone with him. “I really want to kill you but I can’t because you have something I need. So answer my one simple question. Where are my kids?” He laughed.
“Go to hell,” the Black Widow’s smile didn’t falter.
“Mr. Bennett,” she dug her finger into the gun shot and he let out a muffled scream, biting down on his lip. “I’m the easy way,” she moved behind him and forced his head to look at Wanda. “Do you see that beautiful woman over there? I get the pleasure to call her my wife and you do want her to find the answers by force.”
“I’m not scared of her,” he spat out.
“I would be,” Yelena mumbled.
“Moya lyubov’ (My love),” Natasha looked at the witch. “Let me talk to him.” She let go of his face and walked over to Wanda. With the hand not covered in his blood, the Black Widow put her hand on the back of Wanda’s neck.
“Find only them, little witch,” she whispered.
“I wont kill him,” her lips twitched and each words was laced with her deep accent. “He will wish for death.” Natasha gently kissed her forehead and let her go.
“I told you,” Yelena said as Wanda’s fingers glowed red. Natasha smirked as her fingers touched his head and he began to scream.
*
“How did they find you?” He asked with his hand tightly wrapped in your hair as he dragged you into a room you’ve never been in. Hew threw you onto the bed and you scrambled to sit up.
“I don’t know,” you answered honestly. The man paced in front of you. “I’ve done everything you’ve asked of me.” H wasn’t acknowledging you to lost in his thoughts. “Please,” you whispered. “Please don’t hurt him.” That stopped him and he faced you. You climbed to the opposite side of the bed, until your back hit the wall. You hated the look in his head. It was a look you’ve seen before. In Jason’s eyes. In every male that looked at you as if you were a toy, a piece of meat for them to taste.
“Strip for me,” he said, removing his tip and setting a pistol on the bed side table.
“I’m sorry?” You questioned even though you fully understood what he said. He chuckled.
“I am getting tired of having to repeat myself,” he rolled up the sleeves to his elbows. “I said strip.”
*
“We found Tommy,” Yelena said through Natasha’s com as they ran through the hallway of the abandoned hospital. “He’s safe minus a bruise on his face.”
“Copy that,” Wanda answered. “We are still searching for Y/n.” They came to a intersection. “I’ll go left and you go right.” Natasha hated the idea of splitting up but they needed to cover more ground.
“Okay,” she squeezed Wanda’s hand. “Be safe and let’s bring our girl home.” The witch squeezed her hand back and took off. The Black Widow let out a shaky breath and ran right. As she ran through the empty corridors, her mind kept turning into a darker place. The emptiness and coldness of it all reminded her of the Red Room. Endless hours she was shuffled through those halls; going to training or the ballet bar or back to her room. Now two of her children have been subjected to the same darkness. The sound of gun shots sent her heart in a panic and pulled her out of her thoughts. Another shot. Followed by another. She swung open the door with her gun drawn but her form faltered when she saw you; wearing only underwear, blood splattered across your face, and a gun in your hand. You pointed the gun at Natasha.
“M-mom,” you whispered. Your eyes were frantic, wide, and scared. Natasha holstered her gun.
“Yeah, it’s me,” she held up your hands when you didn’t lower the gun. “It’s me. It’s your mom.” Delete Created with Sketch.
You had to be dreaming, right? There was no way Natasha was standing in front of you. He had to have drugged you. “Can you put the gun down for me?” She asked, taking a step closer to you.
“Stop, don’t come any closer,” your hand shook but the Black Widow stopped walking towards you.
“I’ll stay right here but I need you to put that gun down.”
“I can’t,” you whispered. Didn’t she understand. You had to protect yourself from her and the men in his organization. “What if they come back for me?” Natasha shook her head.
“They won’t,” she said. “I’m here and you are safe.”
“Safe?” You questioned with a bitter laugh. “Why does this keep happening to me?” You asked, hitting yourself on the chest with your free hand. “Why do people keep using me? I can’t-” your voice cracked. Your throat began to burn as you tried to keep the tears at bay. “I can feel his hands on me. His breath on my neck. Why does this keep happening?” You pleaded with her to have an answer.
“I don’t know, sweetheart. Sometimes the world is a dark and evil place and you’ve been subjected to a lot of it.”
“It’s not fair. It’s not fair.” You readjusted your grip on the gun. “I can’t do this answer.” You put the barrel of the gun to your temple.
“Sweetheart,” Natasha took a few steps forward but you backed away from her. “You have every right to be angry and upset with how the world as treated you but I promise you whatever happens next I will be there. By yourself or at your back. Just please,” her own voice shook. “Put the gun down and we can go home.”
“Home?” You questioned. You heard footsteps rushing towards the open door and you pointed the gun. It was Wanda. “M-mama,” you whispered.
“Hi, my sweet girl.”She smiled.
“I c-can’t go home,” you said. “I killed those guards and stool information from a doctor. I’m - I’m,” your heart was pounding against your ribs. It was hard for you to get air into your lungs. You put the gun back to your temple.
“You did those things to keep yourself and Tommy safe,” Wanda said. Her voice was strong and steady. “We or the others won’t think of you any differently.”
“Tommy,” you said. “Is he safe?” Natasha nodded.
“He is. He’s with Yelena and waiting for you,” this time when your mom stepped forward you didn’t move. “So is Billy and Kate and Morgan. Just please put the gun down and we can go home.” Home? Home was where you were safe and loved by those around you. You could laugh and joke with your brothers. Play board games at the dining room table. Your hand shook as you set the gun down. It was hard to keep yourself standing and before your knees hit the ground, strong arms caught you. You buried your face into Natasha’s neck and sobbed. Your body shook from the intensities of your cries. Your tears wouldn’t stop. You felt Wanda’s magic enter your mind and every thought, memory went away and you welcomed the darkness.
*
When you came too, you were laying in one of the medical rooms at the tower. You were sandwiched between Billy and Tommy. The twins were asleep, their hands twisting in the fabric of your shirt in a tight fist. Wanda and Natasha were in the chairs on either side of you fast asleep. You sighed, looking up at the ceiling. It reminded you of when they found you after Jason’s attack. They sat by your side until you were healed. You were starting to wonder if you being part of this family was doing more harm then good. “You’re thinking to hard, dorogoy (sweetheart).” You looked at the witch, who was rubbing sleep out of her eyes. You offered her your free hand and she took it.
“I’m sorry,” she shook her head.
“Do not apologize,” she said. “None of this was your fault.” It was hard to believe that you were here. You held tightly onto her hand, scared that if you dropped it or looked away she would disappear. “Hey,” you forced your eyes away from her hand and looked at her. “You are home. You are safe. This is real,” you nodded. “Say it back.”
“This is real,” you repeated. “I am safe. I am home.” There was a shake in your voice that caused Billy to take up. He slowly looked around, eyes laced with sleep. His eyes locked onto yours.
“Your awake,” he said, sitting up quickly and throwing himself into your arms.
“Easy, Billy,” Wanda said. The force knocked the air out of your lungs. It was heightened by Tommy waking up and joining the hug. They hugged you tight as if they to were afraid you’d disappear. There was an ache in your body but you ignored it. You were home. Safe and home.
Natasha got the twins out of the room with the promise of getting ice cream. It was harder for Billy to leave your side but you gave him a smile and promised to play Mario Kart with him. It was just you and your moms and a part of you wished the twins were still there. You felt small under their gaze as you picked at the threads on the blanket. “Tommy filled us in on somethings that happened,” Natasha said. “Do you want to talk about anything?” You crossed your legs and starred at your hands. There was so much you wanted to say but it hurt.
“It was the group Jason worked for,” you whispered. “They found me through my parents. My parents needed money for my mom’s treatment so as an incentive to pay them back I was the bargaining chip,” you shrugged. “In the end, my mom died and my dad couldn’t pay them back so he committed suicide but a debt still needed to be collected,” you pushed away a few tears. “They needed me to steal information from Dr. Harris and get them into that warehouse to steal those drugs. And Dmitri,” you felt bile rise. You closed your eyes and you felt the couple place their hand on top of yours.
“Was like Jason, Coach Griffo, Principal Cook, and Conner. Men that tried to take something that wasn’t there’s to take,” you reopened your eyes and moved your fingers against their hands. It helped ground you. “He made his advances well known but when you found me at the warehouse he was upset and made his move. I killed him,” you sighed, biting your lip. “Natasha found me right after I did it.” You were not looking forward to the next part of this conversation. The Black Widow said your name and you looked at her. Her green eyes were a little glossy.
“I need to ask you this and I need you to be 100% honest with us, okay?” You nodded. “Are you suicidal?” You looked forward, unable to look at either of them.
“I-” you cleaned your throat. “Sometimes I feel their hands on me and the heat of their breath on my neck. I want it all to stop.”
“You didn’t answer her question,” Wanda said. Her small comment made you smile and chuckle softly.
“Because I don’t have an answer for you,” you answered. “I wish I did but right now I feel so dirty and mind is so dark and I don’t feel safe. I’m -”
“Stop apologizing.” Natasha cut you off. “Nothing has been your fault.” You nodded. “And thank you for being honest with us. So here is what’s going to happen,” you looked at her. “You are going to stay at the tower and be monitored by Helen.” That was fair.
“You are going to start speaking to a therapist,” Wanda added on. “Sam has found a few and you can decide which one you like.” You nodded again. “Sweetheart,” you looked at Wanda. Her green eyes matched her wife’s, glossy with tears. “You really scared us. We weren’t sure what was going to happen.”
“I’m-” you stopped yourself. “Thank you,” you said instead. “Thank you for saving.”
“I meant it,” Natasha said. “In that room, I said no matter where life takes you we will be by your side.” she ran her hand through your hair. “My firefly, you saved yourself. Time and time again, it has been you. We are here to show you how far you’ve come.” You smiled. It was a long and scary journey ahead of healing but you wanted to overcome everything you’ve been through. You weren’t a pawn but a queen and it was time to show the world who you are.
You and Wanda had been close since you were pups, you grew up together. You knew you were in love with her, you just didn’t think she’d feel the same, she always talked to you about what she wanted in an Alpha afterall. She had realized she’d fallen for you shortly before the three of you had joined Ultron in his plot against the Avengers, but she was too afraid of saying anything to you. Instead she held your hand and cuddled with you more often hoping that was enough to satisfy her. It wasn't though, she wanted all of you.
   Pietro of course noticed, call it a twins intuition. He didn’t care who his sister fell in love with as long as they didn’t break her heart, but he knew the world was cruel when it came to two Omegas being together so he cautioned her to be careful. To not let anything be seen outside the bedroom that hinted at anything more than friendship. Wanda understood, but she didn’t like it. Keeping her love a secret felt wrong, but she’d do it to keep you safe.
   When you all switched to working with the Avengers and she lost her brother you were right there for her, offering her comfort and letting her share your bed so she wasn’t alone. She knew she had to tell you that she wanted you and she was so happy to know you wanted her too, so that's when your secret relationship started. You both knew it was still considered not only taboo but illegal in most places for two Omegas to be together, but you couldn't help the way you felt about each other.
   Thankfully due to your close friendship and since you were both Omegas no one in the Tower batted an eye at how much time the two of you spent together or how one of you’d sometimes smell like the other, which worked tremendously in your favor considering the two of you would do much more than just watch tv together.
    Currently however, that was exactly what you were doing. You were both cuddling in her nest as one of her sitcoms played on the tv. Wanda's head rested on your chest as your hand played with her hair, your other hand being firmly held by the other Omega. She laughs at something on the show, you're not sure what since you almost never paid attention to them. Your focus was always on her.
   “Y/n?” she says
   “Yes baby?” you respond as her green eyes meet yours
   She gestures to the tv show, an Alpha and some pups playing outside, “Do you think we’ll ever have that?”
   You thought for a moment before answering, “Yes, if we can find the right Alpha. But we need an Alpha that not only wants to bond with both of us, but is also accepting of us being together. I don’t know how easy it’ll be to find an Alpha like that.”
   She nods her head, sighing softly. “Do you think Natasha might be an Alpha like that?” she asks, tone hopeful
   You smile, “I’m not sure baby, but I do know she's not like most Alphas. She’s special.” she nods her head agreeing with you.
   Wanda loves you and you know that, just as she knows you love her but it was no secret that you both longed to have Natasha as your Alpha. There was just something that drew the two of you to her since you’d met her, but the Russian didn’t seem to have an interest in Omegas, which disappointed you both. Wanda more so though, you knew how badly she wanted pups, you’d give her them yourself if only you could.
   Suddenly Wanda straddles your lap and lets her hands rest on your shoulders as she leans in to kiss you. You hum in response, your hands instinctively grab onto her waist. The two of you stay like that until the need for air becomes too intense and she pulls away from you, panting slightly.
   You begin to trail kisses on her jaw, working your way down her neck. You stop when you reach her scent gland, gently you suck on her skin there before letting your teeth graze over the sensitive spot. She whines at the feeling, she desperately wishes the two of you could fully bond by marking each other. But she knows without a supportive Alpha to protect you both from judgment and punishment the risk heavily outweighed the reward. She’d already lost so much in life, to risk losing you was simply something she would never do.
   Your hands travel under her shirt and up her back, she hums as your hands undo the clasp of her bra before they travel back down to the bottom of her shirt. You take it off her with ease and her bra slips off her chest. Your hands palm her breasts, she arches into your touch a soft moan leaving her lips.
   You replace a hand with your mouth, you gently nibble and suck on her nipple as your free hand cups her ass. She grinds down on your lap, whimpering slightly. You smirk against her skin as the hand you had on her breast moves to the front of her pants, you undo her jeans and slip your hand into her underwear. She lets out a small gasp as your fingers slide through her slick soaked folds, teasing her.
   She grinds down on your fingers this time, a needy whine leaving her lips, “Please detka(baby), I want you.”
   You look up at her, “Pants off printsessa(princess).”
   She quickly stands, removing her jeans and underwear before sitting back down on your lap. You kiss her softly, she wraps her arms around your neck, tangling her hands in your hair as you grab her ass pulling her closer to you. She whines again, begging for you.
   Your hand moves back down to her pussy, she's practically dripping slick for you and you hum at how she feels against your fingers. You slowly insert two fingers, getting her to moan again. She begins to suck at your scent gland as you start thrusting your fingers faster for her. She gently nibbles your scent gland, sending chills through you.
   “Fuck baby, careful or you’ll leave a bruise I’ll have to explain” you tell her
   “Wish I could make you mine though.” she says in your ear
   You smile, “I am yours Wanda, always will be.”
   Her lips crash into yours as she kisses you hungrily, she slips her tongue into your mouth, her tongue finds yours as she deepens the kiss. You can feel her legs tremble as her walls squeeze your fingers slightly, knowing she's close you add a third finger and circle your thumb around her clit. She moans again breaking the kiss, you rest your forehead on hers as she focuses on her upcoming orgasm.
   “I love you Y/n.” she manages between gasps
   “I love you too, Wan” you reply as you begin kissing her scent gland effectively sending her over the edge, her slick gushes onto your fingers as she cums, her legs shake as she leans into you.
   You slowly remove your fingers and she watches as you suck them clean, you kiss her again letting her taste herself on you. She hums at the taste. You lie back more in her nest pulling her with you so she can lie on top of you, she snuggles into you as you wrap your arms around her.
   She looks up at you, “What about you?”
   You smile at her, “I can wait, right now I just want to cuddle you.”
   She smiles, settling back into you. You gently run one of your hands up and down her back and she begins to purr. You chuckle softly, you found her purr incredibly cute even though you could also produce the sound. She shivers suddenly.
   “You cold? We can get a blanket, or you can get redressed.” you tell he
   She nods, getting up she grabs her clothes from earlier taking them with her as she goes to use the bathroom. No sooner does she close the bathroom door does someone knock on the door to the bedroom. You swallow hard, no one had ever come around this soon after you and Wanda had been together. You were sure whoever it was would be able to tell what had occurred if you opened the door. They knock again.
   “Hey, come on guys. I know you're in there, I asked FRIDAY to check. I got to talk to you.” Yelena says from the hall. Damn, if you didn’t answer her it would look really suspicious.
    You walk over and hesitantly open the door for her avoiding looking at her, “Hey Yelena” you manage to say, but she doesn't reply. You chance a glance at her and find her eyes are dilated as she stares at you. Oh fuck, yep she knows.
   She quickly grabs the collar of your shirt and shoves you backwards into the room, slamming the door shut with her foot, her eyes don’t move from you until Wanda walks into the room speaking to you.
   “Detka(baby)? What was-” She freezes when she sees Yelena holding you, staring at you with dilated eyes. Wanda becomes aware the Alpha knows about the two of you and fear shoots through her. Would the Alpha hurt you for this or separate the two of you permanently?
   Finally Yelena speaks, “What the hell are the two of you doing?”
   There's no anger in her tone but Wandas eyes start to fill with tears anyway. You can see her bottom lip tremble and you yearn to go comfort her, but the current hold the Alpha has on you prevents you from doing so.
  “Please Yelena, don’t tell the other Alphas. Don’t have her taken away from me. Please.” the Omega begs as she nervously twists the rings on her fingers, tears beginning to fall down her face.
   Yelena suddenly looks taken aback, “I…what? Hey, no I wasn't..I wouldn't….ugh.” she releases her hold on you, “Go, comfort your girl please. The tears are killing me.”
   You're confused, but you gladly go to Wanda, you engulf her in a hug, “Shh, it’s ok. I’m right here baby.” She tucks her head into your neck and her arms wrap around you tight as she hugs you back. You can hear Yelena shuffle around awkwardly behind you. You pull back as much as Wanda allows and place a kiss on her forehead before looking to the Alpha.
   “I’m not going to tell anyone about the two of you. I don’t care that the two of you are a thing, it doesn't bother me. I just panicked for you because you mated in the middle of the day where me at your door could have been literally anyone else, and I know there are Alphas and Betas here who wouldn't approve of the two of you and I don’t want them catching you and making something happen to you guys.” the Russian suddenly rambles
   The Omega in your arms sniffles but looks at the Alpha across the room, “I’m sorry I thought the worst of you. I just saw you holding Y/n, and I could tell you found out about us and I got scared.” she admits
   Yelena nods, “It’s ok. Just, be more careful about this sort of thing. Save most of it for nighttime or daytime when most of the team is on a mission.”
   “We’ll be more careful from now on, promise.” you tell her
   “Alright then, I’ll go ahead and leave the two of you be.” she says, turning towards the door
   “Wait, I thought you wanted to talk to us about something, isn't that why you came here in the first place?” you ask
   “It’s fine, it wasn't that important anyway.” she says with a wave of her hand and a smile
   “Ok then, see you later.” you reply, even more confused than before as she leaves
   She attempts to hold in her excitement as she heads off to her sisters room with this information. Once she gets there she doesn't bother knocking she just bursts in with a shit eating grin on her face.
Surgery VI
Mapi Leon x Ingrid Engen x Child!Reader
Summary: Baking when you were Little Cub
Tumblr media
"In trouble, again?" Paredes asks as Mapi leaves her meeting," What is it this time? Still the food issue?"
"There's no food issue," Mapi replies with an eye roll.
"If you're struggling with healthy food then-"
"There's no struggling to make healthy food," Mapi interrupts," It's fine. We're fine."
"I'm just saying, Mapi. I know Cub's properly weaned now so if it's difficult then just come over to mine. Lucía will be happy to feed you both."
"It's fine," Mapi insists," We have no nutrition problems in the house."
Paredes looks sceptical but doesn't push anymore as you toddle over, grabbing onto Mapi's legs and giggling as Ingrid tickles your tummy.
You've taken to Ingrid like flies to honey.
Paredes hasn't seen anything quite like it. You're notoriously impulsive and wiggly (she's still trying to convince Mapi to get you checked out by a professional) but you don't mind sitting still in Ingrid's arms.
She's your go-to babysitter now, even edging out Leila while Mapi's busy and you seem to love her.
"Are we still up for later tonight?" Ingrid asks as you duck back and forth between her and Mapi.
Mapi's cheeks turn pink and her voice goes embarrassingly high-pitched. "Of course! Cub's really excited. Aren't you, cub?"
"Makin' cookies 'gain?" You ask.
"If you really want to."
"Yes!"
"I see," Paredes laughs as you and Ingrid run off again," The nutrition problem is you can't say no to your kid. Cookies? Again? How many spare have you got?"
Mapi groans. "Too many. You know what Cub's like. My mama took her to a bakery last time she came to visit and she's obsessed now. I can't bake for shit so I think we've hit up every bakery in the city."
"And Ingrid came to your rescue?"
"I think Cub must have mentioned it because she turned up a few weeks ago with ingredients and they spent an hour baking together. I've never seen Cub so calm."
"And now you have too many to eat by yourself?"
"Way too many."
"Bring them in next time," Paredes laughs, clapping Mapi on the back," At least then the whole team gets the nutrition lecture."
"You know what? I think that's a great idea."
Ingrid follows Mapi's car home, having already bought more ingredients on the way to training so you could get right into the baking as soon as you got home.
The countertops of Mapi's kitchen (and every spare space) is already covered in baked goods, ranging from cookies to cupcakes to fancy bread that there's truly no hope in her eating all by herself, hence the reason she is constantly getting in trouble with the coaching staff.
"Alright," Ingrid says, commanding the room easily when you get distracted by showing Bagheera the lion on your t-shirt," Let's wash our hands please."
You go immediately over to the sink, letting Ingrid pick you up so you can reach while Mapi grabs the stool she keeps in the bathroom so you're tall enough to reach the countertops.
Mapi's in awe as Ingrid so easily gets you to follow her instructions. You're fairly unruly and impulsive at the best of times but you calm right down as Ingrid helps you break an egg into the bowl and stir it in with the rest of the mixture.
"Do you need any help?" Mapi's only really asking out of curtesy.
The first time you had baked with Mapi was also the last time when the cake mixture set on fire in the oven and the glass bowl you had mixed everything shattered.
"Why don't you just sit with Bagheera and look pretty?" Ingrid teases but Mapi feels it go straight through her body and she sits down quickly.
"Ingrid's da boss!" You giggle and Ingrid moves behind you to tie your unruly hair back properly.
"I don't think I'm the boss," She says to you and you shake your head.
"Are! 'Cause Mami's my boss and you tell her what to do! You're Mami's boss!"
Ingrid laughs, scooping out a bit of cookie dough and swiping it across the tip of your nose. "You're so sweet, cub," She says as you go cross eyed looking at the blob on your nose.
"Tha's what Mami says!"
"Well, your Mami is very smart. Now, what cookie-cutter shape are we using today?"
You end up choosing the star cutter and Ingrid helps you cut them all out before she puts them in the oven.
"I've noticed that," Ingrid says as she joins Mapi on the sofa," Doesn't she get bored?"
You're sitting in front of the oven, just staring at the cookies.
"It's normal," Mapi shrugs," You should see her watching the washing machine. It's so cute."
You watch the cookies bake the entire time until Ingrid comes over to get them out. You can't touch them just yet because they're still hot but you're pulled away by Mami making you help her box up the other things you made this week.
"Why?" You ask her.
"Well," She says," I thought it would be nice to give some to the team your snacks."
"But why?"
"Because your Mami really wants to share how proud she is of you," Ingrid jumps in," Your food is so tasty that she wants everyone to taste it too."
You gasp. "Can smash Tia Leila's face with cake!"
You're very determined to do that as you carry the box of cupcakes into the changing room the next day. Mapi and Ingrid lag behind with bags full of boxes.
"What's this?" Alexia asks with a laugh.
"Made bakery food," You say, tearing the top of the tupperware off," Tia Leila! Tia! Cake for you!"
As soon as she ducks down to take it from you, you slam it right into her nose.
I Will Protect You Pt 1
Carol Danvers x Reader
Y/N and Carol are faced with a challenge that could tear them apart. Would they be able to beat it, or will their bond break?
This is a continuation of my series, Wings in the Sky Fire in My Heart. Read that first, then read Even Now I Love You. If you don't, this won't make much sense.
Warnings: Violence, Language, Possible Non-Canon Things (Tony Alive and Natasha because I refuse to have them both dead), Protective Reader, Protective Carol, Adopted Peter Parker
Y/N’s life was anything but normal. She had a superhero as a mate and an adopted spider like teen who filled her life with joy. Carol had promised to not leave Earth again, at least not without her and they had agreed that they definitely couldn’t leave Peter. They had mixed feelings about the teen attending college or not attending college. Y/N didn’t care if he attended while Carol wanted him to further his education. Money wasn’t an issue as Tony had offered to pay for the kid. It was a nice gesture considering the Avengers didn’t know Peter. They knew only what intel they had gathered…which was nothing. It was strange that they had no information on him, and Y/N worked with Fury to get the kid an identity. They made sure he had a driver’s license, a birth certificate, and identifying papers. Y/N was listed as his parental figure, along with Carol. He had them as a family and no one would question it. This was her little family and she’d make sure they’d stay safe. They would not meet the same fate as her parents.
Y/N leaned against the railing as she watched the young Avengers train. Kamala used her powers to help Kate get high ground, allowing the woman to fire her training arrows at Yelena and Peter. They were working well with one another, even when Yelena’s taunting. Kamala was giggling up a storm per usual with Peter joining in on the banter. Carol impatiently tapped her foot as Natasha shook her head.
“Focus! You can’t be bantering every time you are training!” Natasha shouted.
“Aw, chill-lax Natasha! We’re just having some fun!” Yelena argued. The woman knocked Kate from her perch, making the woman yell at her. Y/N rolled her eyes at the interaction. Yelena and her ‘flirting’ was ridiculous. She really just needed to kiss the archer and move on with her life.
“Enjoying the show?” Fury questioned. Y/N glanced at the one-eyed man as he leaned against the railing next to her.
“What do you want?”
“As usual, straight to the point,” Fury chuckled, holding out a datapad to her. “Do you know what could’ve caused this?”
Y/N frowned and took the datapad from him. She inspected the image, and her blood ran cold. The marks were familiar. The ground was moved in an almost serpent like way and the car was crushed like it had been squeezed. Scorch marks were present as well with them moving in a lighting like way.
“I take it that’s a yes?”
“Yes…when did you take this?”
“A few hours ago.”
“Where?”
“Florida. From my resources, we can tell that they are moving this way,” Fury answered. Y/N cursed and handed the datapad back to him. She angrily turned, leaving the room. She ignored Fury’s protests as she went, heading straight for the room she had in the compound. Her door slid closed behind her, and she dropped to her knees, reaching under the bed. The cold metal of the box met her fingers, and she pulled it from under the bed. The familiar language of her kind was engraved on the box, and she ran her fingers along the words. With a sigh, Y/N used her fire to open the box. Inside, there were three scales and a crystal. One scale for herself, one for her father, and one for her mother. The crystal was dull with a distinct lack of light to it. It had been far too long since she had let their fire touch it.
“Mother, Father…they have come here too. What am I to do?” Y/N spoke in her tongue. She ran her fingers over her parent’s scales, feeling the cold that emanated from it. The deathbringers were here. They had come to Earth and would likely be trying to control it, just like they had done to her planet. The room grew warm around her as memories flowed through her mind. Lighting and thunder cracking across the sky. Screaming and pain. Death and destruction. She saw the Kree standing beside them, striking down those they deemed an issue. Her parents falling as they protected her. She growled, squeezing her eyes shut. Damn them all. A pair of arms wrapped around her, holding her close.
“Mate? Breathe for me. You’ll burn the room down,” Carol soothed. Y/N placed her hands on Carol’s, doing her best to keep her fire from hurting her. She took a steadying breath and made her fire dissipate. Carol rested her forehead against the back of her head and Y/N sighed.
“I’m alright.”
“Are you sure?”
Y/N turned in Carol’s arms, resting her forehead against the blonde’s. “I will be okay.”
“What made you upset?” Carol asked, looking at her with concerned brown eyes. Her gaze lowered to the box in her hands and Y/N closed the lid.
“Nothing that you need to worry about,” Y/N murmured, sliding the box back beneath the bed. Carol’s mouth opened in protest and Y/N moved forward, capturing her lips with her own. Her mate hummed into the kiss, and she let her hands move to her butt, giving it a soft squeeze. Carol squeaked her protest and pulled away with a frown.
“You’re trying to distract me.”
“You act like it’s hard to do. All I need to do is squeeze you the right way and…”
“Okay! I get it!” Carol exclaimed. Her face was red with embarrassment and Y/N chuckled, placing a chaste kiss to her lips.
“Did you feed spider-boy and the others?”
“Not yet. They were worried about you.”
“Then we best get a move on. Junior needs to return home before her mother comes after us.”
“Yeah, I don’t want to argue with her mother again. Shall we take them out to eat?”
“I love that plan. Who’s turn is it to pick?”
“Yelena.”
Y/N groaned and rested her head against Carol’s chest. Yelena always chose weird places. Her palette was weird and her food choices were strange. “I retract my statement. Let’s not take them.”
“It’ll be fine. You’ll find something you like.”
Several Hours Later
Y/N held Carol’s hand as they walked along the trail, watching the others in front of them. Yelena had decided on Prospect Park, stating that she wanted to enjoy the lake view and go to the zoo. They’d gotten permission to take Kamala with them and Y/N enjoyed the time they spent together. The younglings were wild, even after a training session. This walk wasn’t going to tire them out either…maybe Kate and Kamala, but not Yelena and Peter. Hopefully after their trip to the zoo, they’d be tired.
“I’m regretting bringing them. They have way too much energy,” Carol groaned. Y/N chuckled and squeezed Carol’s hand.
“It’s alright. We’ve only got one more day than we can go back to Louisiana. Peter wanted to stay here for a bit, so we can have a mini vacation for the week.”
“Did he say what he was going to do?”
“No. He just wanted to stay at the compound. Tony said he’d keep an eye on him and so did Natasha.”
“I hope he looks at some of the schools here. He can’t keep waiting,” Carol mumbled. Y/N sighed and glanced at the blonde.
“He doesn’t have to rush. He’s still a kid.”
“He’s 17. He’ll be an adult soon.”
“Until he is, we should let him be a kid. He’s done more than even some adults and he’s not one. He has the right to relax.”
“He can’t just be a superhero. He should have a career in something else. A career that isn’t so dangerous,” Carol argued. Y/N could see the pain on her face. The pain in her brown eyes. She was thinking of Monica. Of the girl that she had lost once again. She was being protective, and Y/N couldn’t get mad at her for that.
“I know you’re worried, but he’ll be okay. The Avengers and young Avengers will watch over him. We’ll watch over him. He’s got all of us to keep him sa—”
“We can’t protect everyone,” Carol snapped, pulling her hand free. Y/N sighed and scratched the back of her neck.
“Carol. What happened to Monica wasn’t your fault.”
“No? I only abandoned her and then let her fix my mistake. She’s gone because of what I failed to do…I don’t want Peter going through that same ordeal. He needs a life where he isn’t in danger everyday. A life where—”
“Where you’re not in it?” Y/N finished. Carol flinched at her words and Y/N shook her head. She looked to Peter, seeing that he was throwing stones with Kamala. His smile was free of worry. Free of the hardships of life. “I want the same thing for Peter. A safe and happy life. He’s happy with us. Isn’t that enough?”
Carol didn’t answer and Y/N stuffed her hands in her pockets. She brushed by her mate, heading for the younglings.
“I don’t want to keep talking about this. Let’s just enjoy our day, okay? We can argue later,” Y/N softly spoke. She gave Carol a small smile before continuing along the trail. The blonde didn’t follow her as she walked to Peter and Kamala. “Did you two chase Yelena and Kate away?”
“They went to grab a snack!” Kamala answered. Y/N raised an eyebrow at her.
“They just ate.”
“That’s what they told us,” Kamala shrugged. Peter chuckled and picked up a stone, holding it out to her.
“Want to try? I’ve made it the farthest so far,” Peter asked. Y/N took the pebble, easily tossing it. It bounced across the water, almost making it halfway across. “Eh, that wasn’t terrible.”
“Let’s see you beat me then,” Y/N challenged. Peter smiled and reached down, picking up a stone. He paused and Y/N quirked her head at him. What was he doing? He shot upright and Y/N saw the panic in his eyes. Before he could move, she felt the static in the air. She shoved him away as a spear flew at them. The spear lodged itself into the ground and Y/N twirled, barely dodging the tip of another spear. It nicked her ear and she snarled, letting lose a blast of fire from her mouth. The figure before her shot away, then came right back at her. The spear moved at an amazing speed, meeting her flesh here and there. Nothing fatal or worrisome, but enough to hurt.
“Y/N!” Peter shouted. Y/N ducked and swiped the assailant off their feet.
“Get out of here!”
“But—”
“Go Peter!” Y/N ordered. She turned and her eyes widened. Glowing yellow eyes appeared in the water, right behind the teens. She moved as Peter pulled Kamala towards him. The snake-like creature shot from the water with its mouth agape. Teeth nearly as big as her forearm were aimed to devour them and Y/N panicked. Kamala used her powers and created a shield, making the serpent crash into it. They were sent flying back and Y/N lunged at the beast. Her claws dug into its scaly hide, and she tore into it. The creature screeched, flailing around to strike at her. Its spiked tail slammed into her side, crushing her against the ground. The spikes pierced through her scales, and she barely got her hands up to catch the serpent by its teeth as it tried to eat her. Her foot met the bottom of its jaw, holding it wide open. Good. She gathered her fire in her chest and blew her flames from her mouth. The fire scorched through the serpent, burning it from the inside out. Its wail of pain filled the air, and she clamped her mouth shut, stopping her fire to toss the creature aside. The moment it fell dead, Y/N was tackled. The momentum took her straight into the water and a tail pulled her deeper. She struggled to free herself as the serpent wrapped around her. Its yellow eyes pulsed as it stared at her and she lost the air in her lungs as electricity engulfed her.
Point of View Change, Carol
Carol ran for the water’s edge, readying herself to jump in after her mate. She had heard the fighting and had run for them, but everything had happened too fast. One moment Y/N was burning the serpent with her fire and the next, she was taken to the water by another serpent.
“Stop!” Peter warned, grabbing her around the waist and holding her back.
“Let me go!”
“It’s too dangerous!” Peter argued. The air was full of static electricity and Carol could see the current on the top of the water, right where Y/N had been taken. “Kamala! Get Yelena and Kate!”
“On it!” Kamala shouted. Peter tightened his grip around Carol, and she glared at the teen.
“Let go of me,” Carol seethed. Peter shook his head, making her gather her powers. “I swear to God, if you don’t let me go, I will blast you!”
“You’ll get hurt if you try to get her!”
“I don’t care!” Carol shouted. The water exploded on the other side of the lake as the serpent who had attacked Y/N slithered away. The current died and Carol was ready to blast Peter to make him release her. A blur crashed into the water, making them both ready themselves. It only took a few seconds before whatever had crashed into the water reappeared. The figure flew above them, carefully landing and gently lying Y/N’s limp body on the ground. Carol ran for her mate, sliding along the ground and placing her fingers on her neck. No pulse. She frantically placed her hands on her chest and started chest compressions. “Peter!”
Peter dropped next to her, readying himself to take over. After thirty compressions, Carol pinched Y/N’s nose and brought her lips to her still ones, breathing into her. Two puffs, then repeat. The moment she finished the second breath, Peter started compressions. They repeated this for several minutes before Y/N gasped. Carol turned her onto her side, helping steady her as she coughed up the water in her lungs. Peter released a shaky breath and Carol ran a soothing hand along Y/N’s back.
“We’ve got you,” Carol assured. She glanced up, seeing the person who had saved Y/N. No. The dragon. Their blue wings reflected the Sun and one of the horns on their head was broken. They knelt and gestured to Y/N.
“I must take her somewhere safe,” they spoke. Carol shook her head and lied herself on Y/N, blocking her from the dragon’s view.
“You won’t touch my mate,” Carol growled. The dragon’s eyes widened, and they inclined their head.
“Understood…do you have somewhere safe we can go?”
“I do.”
“Good. We shall accompany you.”
“We?” Carol questioned. Four more dragons landed beside the one that had saved Y/N. They were all different colors and each of them inclined their heads to her. It was a strange gesture.
“We will make sure you get there safely,” the dragon assured. Carol wasn’t sure she could trust them. She didn’t know them. They could still cause harm to them. Y/N’s hand weakly grabbed onto hers, making her look down at her mate. Unfocused Y/E/C eyes looked up at her. They conveyed without words that it would be okay.
“Carol! Peter!” Kate shouted. The dragons turned as the young Avengers ran towards them.
“It’s fine! Don’t attack!” Carol ordered. She was directing her order at the young Avengers and at the dragons. None of them should attack one another. Carol carefully picked up Y/N, cradling her close as she stood. The dragons circled around her in a protective manner as she did. “Let’s get back to the compound.”
Back at the Compound
Carol held onto Y/N as Tony checked her vitals. They had hooked her to their machines and the genius was making sure she wasn’t hurt more. Carol didn’t need the machines to know that something was wrong. Y/N didn’t hold her hands as tightly as she used to. Her body felt colder as well. Something was wrong. She glanced around the room, taking in the worried looks of the dragons. They had returned to their human forms, refusing to leave Y/N’s and Carol’s side. They barely let Tony enter to check on Y/N, but they had relented when Carol had told them that he needed to be there to help her mate. Peter was the only other visitor allowed. She had told them that he was Y/N’s adoptive child and they had easily agreed to letting him enter. Why were they here?
“Her nerves are severely damaged. Her heart is pumping, but weaker which explains why her body temperature is lower. Nothing is working properly right now,” Tony spoke. Carol squeezed Y/N’s hand.
“What can you do?”
“Therapy, medication. I’ll do anything we need to in order to help her,” Tony assured. He typed a few things on the console. “I’ll have the lab whip up a few things. You deal with…all of this other stuff.”
“Thank you,” Carol thanked. Tony waved off her apology, patting her on the shoulder before leaving the room. Y/N groaned against her, and she looked down at her mate. “What was that?”
“I-I hate meds,” Y/N stammered. Carol chuckled and placed a kiss to her head.
“I know, but you need it and anything else Tony can give you. You’re hurt,” Carol argued. Peter scooted his chair closer to the bed they were sitting on, looking at Y/N with worry in his eyes.
“I-I’m so sorry. My spider sense didn’t go off soon enough,” Peter apologized. Y/N shook her head and reached out to the teen, ruffling his hair weakly.
“It’s alright. You couldn’t have done anything different,” Y/N assured. She turned in Carol’s arms, looking at the others in the room. “How?”
“We were travelling here to warn you about the deathbringers. We heard of your affiliation with the Avengers and hoped to get to you before you were attacked,” the one who had saved her answered. They bowed their head to her. “I’m sorry we didn’t get here sooner.”
“What’re your names?”
“Mine is Ben. The others are Ven, Trent, Elsie, and Marlene,” Ben answered. Y/N nodded, and Carol felt how she took a shaky breath.
“Your part of that group…aren’t you?”
“We are.”
“How many?”
“A dozen of us escaped. We have a community in Asia. Forty strong and growing,” Ben answered. He knelt and so did the others. “We are in your debt for being here. We’ve come to fulfill that.”
“I don’t want you to. Consider your debt paid.”
“We owe you our lives. We will pay yo—”
“You owe my parents your lives, not me!” Y/N hollered. Her body shook and Carol placed a steadying hand on her stomach. “You owed them, and they’re gone.”
“I am sorry for your loss. They were strong and caring rulers,” Ben spoke.
Y/N shook her head. “Leave.”
“As you command. We will be outside,” Ben nodded. He left the room with the others and Y/N clenched the bedsheets.
“Damn it,” Y/N cursed, pulling away from Carol. She moved to the edge of the bed and Carol moved, hearing Peter do the same. Y/N held up her hand to stop them and she shakily let her legs dangle. Carol slid from the bed as Y/N shakily tried to stand. Her body held her up for a few seconds before she collapsed. Carol caught her as she fell, and her mate growled. “I’ve got it.”
“You don’t,” Carol argued. She looked up at Peter, gesturing for him to leave. The teen nodded and quickly headed for the door.
“I’ll get you some pho,” Peter mumbled as he went. There was a slight feeling of Deja-vu, but Carol couldn’t question it. Y/N pushed her away and tried to stand again, succeeding in falling to her knees once more.
“Y/N—”
“I have to move.”
“No, you don’t. You need to rest and let Tony help you. He’ll give you therapy and—”
“I don’t have time to wait!” Y/N shouted, slamming her fist against the ground. Her body shook and she looked at the door. “I can’t wait. The deathbringers will stop at nothing to kill our kind. My parents had helped a handful escape before the deathbringers rid our planet of our kind. After they killed the rest of them, the planet started to become uninhabitable, and they lost their own lives. I have to protect what’s left of my people.”
“Let me help you. The others and I can fight them and defeat them.”
“No. This is my job. I am the last in my line. The last one who could ever pose a threat to them. I-I can stop them, but not if I can’t get up and fight,” Y/N growled. She glanced back at Carol and the blonde inhaled sharply. There were tears in her Y/E/C eyes. There was something else. Her eyes were full of pain, fear, and sorrow. That was a look she had seen when she had first met her. The same look that she had given her when she had saved her. Carol closed the distance between them, gathering Y/N in her arms. Her mate shook against her, and she hugged her tightly.
“Then we get up and fight. Let me help you,” Carol spoke, kissing Y/N’s mate mark. The woman in her arms whimpered and pulled her closer. She was going to help her. No matter what happened, she would help her.
Several days passed and Y/N hardly made any progress. She was shaky on her feet and her fire was still weak. She couldn’t even make an ember appear. It would take her more time to recover, but Carol knew their enemies wouldn’t wait. These deathbringers would stop at nothing to kill her. They had to figure things out and fast. Carol was worried that this would end badly. That Y/N would end up dead. She couldn’t allow that to happen.
Carol listened to Y/N as her mate spoke with the team. They were devising a plan on defeating the deathbringers. The deathbringers could be killed, but it would take a lot to do so. Their weapons would work so long as they stayed alive themselves. They’d need to be careful.
The meeting didn’t take long and soon, Carol found herself being held by Y/N. She rested her head under her mate’s chin as the other woman’s fingers played with her hair. Her body was still colder than what she was used to, and she used her own powers to warm Y/N.
“You don’t have to waste you energy like that,” Y/N sighed. Carol hummed and held her closer, resting her palms on her bare back. Her hands warmed and Y/N shook her head. “Carol.”
“I’m just feeling you,” Carol argued. She moved one of her hands, placing it on the mark she had left on Y/N.
“What happens when a mate dies?”
Y/N hummed and grabbed her hand, bringing it to her lips. She pressed a soft kiss to it before holding it against her heart. “The mark will fade.”
“Does it hurt?”
“Yes…it’s supposed to feel like a part of you is missing,” Y/N answered. Carol looked up at her, seeing how she was staring down at her with an unreadable expression. Carol used her free hand to cup her cheek.
“What’s going on in that pretty head?” Carol questioned. Y/N gave her a soft smile before kissing her palm.
“Can you promise me something?”
“Of course.”
“Keep fighting and never give up,” Y/N spoke. Carol frowned and sat up, looking down at her mate.
“Why are you asking me to promise that?”
“I just need to know you’ll keep fighting…but that’s not really what I’m asking you to promise,” Y/N sighed. She sat up and took her hands in her own. “I need you to promise me that you will always find a reason to keep going. That you won’t let loss blanket your light.”
Carol stared at her in shock. “I-how could I promise that?”
“Starlight, I need you to promise me that. Please?” Y/N begged. She squeezed her hands and gave her a pleading look. “I need to know that you’ll keep going. That you won’t let anything snuff out your light.”
“Why does it feel like you’re saying goodbye?” Carol softly questioned. Y/N rested her forehead against her own and she felt how the woman shook against her.
“Carol.”
“I promise.”
Y/N nodded. “I love you, mate.”
“I love you too,” Carol declared. She pulled Y/N into her arms and held her as the two of them lied back down. She hated this feeling in her gut. Hated the feeling of knowing something wrong was going to happen yet being unable to do anything about it. What would this battle bring?
The Next Day Point of View Change, Y/N
Y/N wished they had more time to prepare. Wished they could do more to ensure their victory. But the deathbeingers had come, attacking the Avengers Compound. The plan was simple. Lead them away and to a more unpopulated area. They couldn’t allow others to get hurt.
That’s what Y/N was doing now. She was using the suit that Peter had designed for her, flying with the other dragons and leading the deathbringers away. There were only a dozen of them, which was good. Anymore of them and they’d be in trouble.
“They’re catching up,” Ben cautioned. Y/N glanced behind them, seeing that they were indeed catching up. Their bodies slithered along the ground, easily gaining ground on them. Just a bit further and they’d have them where they wanted. The young Avengers had a trap ready with Carol and Natasha helping them. “Watch out!”
Y/N barely dodged the fangs of a deathbringer, making room for Trent to slam into the serpent. The creature screeched in pain and Y/N pushed the rockets on her suit. “Keep moving! We’re almost there!”
They flew faster and Y/N angled herself up, towards the concealed jet. The others followed and the young Avengers opened fire. Their shots were aimed true, striking down two of the deathbringers. Y/N flipped in the air and dove, aiming her sword. She didn’t have her fire to count on. She hardly had the power of flight. She had to utilize this weapon and suit to succeed. Her sword struck her target, and she heard the shouts of the other dragons as they fought. Carol slammed into one serpent while the young Avengers shot down another. A shout of alarm filled the air and Y/N twirled, seeing Marlene getting slammed to the ground. Her body was limp when the deathbringer lifted its tail, making Y/N’s blood boil. Elsie and Ven flew past her, trying to reach their downed friend, only to meet the teeth of two other deathbringers. In the span of a minute, they had lost three of her fellow dragons.
“Y/N! This isn’t going to work!” Trent shouted. He used his fire with Ben’s, burning a serpent before it could reach them. Y/N floated there, staring at the lifeless bodies of her comrades. She had failed them. This plan had been hers and it had failed. Carol flew to her side, grabbing her arm.
“What are you doing?! Keep moving!” Carol yelled. Y/N looked at the blonde, seeing the dirt on her face. She had gotten knocked down a few times but had been lucky enough to get out of danger. The young Avengers were shouting in alarm at them as the serpents aimed their lighting at the ship. “Shit. We have to think of a different plan.”
Y/N glanced over her shoulder, seeing Trent and Ben defending themselves. They nodded at her before flying to her. Her hand touched the crystal that hung around her neck, feeling the warmth that came from it. “Carol?”
“What?” Carol questioned, turning to face her. Y/N grabbed her face, bringing their lips together. She conveyed all her love in that kiss before pulling away, leaving a dumfounded blonde staring at her.
“I love you, starlight,” Y/N smiled. She shoved Carol back, and the two dragons grabbed her arms, flying her to the ship.
“Y/N?!” Carol exclaimed. Y/N pulled the crystal from around her neck, staring at the glowing red that swam inside it. She hadn’t told Carol this part of the plan. That this crystal could hold the flames of as many dragons as she wanted. That it would give her said fire and allow her to take the form of an actual dragon. Her family was the only bloodline that could do so, which was why the deathbringers had been adamant about killing her. She could easily kill them. Y/N took one last look at Carol, before crushing the crystal and allowing the flames to surround her.
Point of View Change, Carol
Carol watched in shock as flames surrounded Y/N, engulfing her and making the deathbringers hiss. They launched themselves at the fire and it exploded outwards, sending them flying back. Ben and Trent dragged her to the ship and Natasha pulled it back as Y/N emerged from the flames. This wasn’t her half-dragon form. This was a true dragon. Her wings blocked out the Sun and her Y/F/C scales reflected the light. Flames flickered in her maw as she growled at the serpents. She was slightly bigger than them and Carol could see the wildness in her eyes. The anger. Y/N roared in challenge, making the deathbringers hiss in return. She flew down at them, latching onto one with her jaw and crushing one with her claws. The ones that she hadn’t taken down attacked her in return, wrapping around her and digging their teeth into her scales. Carol strained against Trent and Ben, letting her powers pulse.
“Let me go!” Carol ordered.
“We can’t!”
“We promised we’d keep you here!”
Carol shook her head and watched as the deathbringers used their lightning. Y/N roared in pain as the current struck her, she fell to the ground and the serpents continued their onslaught. “If you don’t let me help, she’ll die!”
“We know. She knows that as well. She didn’t care if she died. All she cared about was keeping her family safe,” Ben sadly spoke. Carol looked down at the dragon, seeing the pain in his eyes. His wings were drooping as his hands trembled on her arm. “We don’t want this either.”
“Then let me help her,” Carol begged. Ben shook his head and Carol growled. She was going to get to Y/N. She’d photon blast them if she had to. Before she could, Peter’s webs yanked them away from her. Kamala’s powers surrounded them, and Carol whirled to face them. Peter’s mask dematerialized and he waved his arms.
“Go!” Peter shouted. Carol nodded and ran for the ship opening, jumping out of the aircraft to shoot down at the deathbringers. She aimed her trajectory for the serpent that was wrapped around Y/N’s muzzle, going straight through it. The deathbringer fell dead, allowing Y/N to free her jaw and let loose her fire. Her flames burned the deathbringers who were wrapped around her, and Carol flew around her, stunning those who tried to escape. Her mate followed her every move, defending her when she needed and striking down the deathbringers when Carol gave her an opening. Their enemies fell and Carol made sure she stayed out of Y/N’s way. She flew beneath her legs, to shoot a serpent who tried to blindside her. She used her powers to blast two more away that latched onto her wings. They wouldn’t hurt her any more than they had already.
The last deathbringer fell to the ground in a dead, ashen heap as Y/N used her flames to kill it. The air was heavy with the stench and feeling of death. The ground, littered with the deathbringers. Carol panted as she landed on the ground. Her body was exhausted. A shadow loomed over her, and she looked up, seeing Y/N looking down at her. Her Y/E/C eyes were devoid of their usual brightness. The usual light that made her heart flutter.
“Y/N?” Carol softly asked. Y/N growled, gathering fire in her jaw. Crap. Y/N’s fire descended upon her, and she was shocked when Strange appeared before her. He used his magic to block the attack and when it died out, he summoned a portal to shove her through. She landed with a grunt on the ship floor, staring up at Peter.
“Carol!” Peter exclaimed, helping her up. Carol let the teen steady her as they went to the edge of the ship, looking down at Strange as he flew around Y/N. His magic ensnared her, chaining her limbs and forcing her to the ground. Her body only struggled for a few more seconds before going lax. “Ms. Natasha? Can you land the ship?”
“On it,” Natasha spoke. The ship slowly descended, landing upon the dirt. Once it was on the ground, Carol and Peter ran for Y/N. They were stopped by Strange, who held up his hand to them.
“Hold on now,” Strange cautioned. Carol grabbed him by the front of his robes, yanking him closer.
“Let her go.”
“And let her burn you to a crisp?”
“She won’t.”
“She tried to already,” Strange countered. He smacked her hand away and used his magic, creating a larger portal. This one took all of them, including Y/N’s downed form to a different location. “I can’t believe she thought this would work. It obviously was ill thought out.”
Carol looked around them, seeing the endless plains before them. The blue sky and the lack of carnage. “Where are we?”
“A vivarium. I enlarged it to enclose Y/N. We can’t let her run amok,” Strange answered. Carol looked at Y/N, seeing how she glared at her. She looked upset. “I would suggest not getting too close. She’s not in control anymore.”
“Can we help her like this?” Peter asked, kneeling in front of Y/N’s larger head.
“I don’t know. Feel free to try, but don’t get close. I’ll see if her little friends can help,” Strange sighed. Carol joined Peter, kneeling in front of Y/N. They stared at her as she huffed in annoyance. There was still something left of her. Barely there but not a wild beast.
“What are we going to do?” Peter asked, wrapping his arms around himself. Carol scooted closer to him, draping an arm over his shoulder in what she hoped was a comforting manner. Y/N had told her a bit about the teen’s past. That he had lost all of his friends and his last remaining family member, his aunt. She had told her that he had done something stupid and paid the price for it. She told her how Peter had known Y/N before he paid this price. Y/N was all that he had left of his old life. She hadn’t questioned his arrival at her doorstep. She hadn’t pushed him away. She had welcomed him into her life and home.
“I don’t know kid. We’ll figure something out.”
Peter nodded and looked at the grass. “I-I wanted to tell both of you that I got accepted into MIT.”
“You did? That’s great Peter! When did you find that out?”
“About a month ago.”
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner?” Carol softly questioned. Peter sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
“I heard you two arguing about me going to college.”
“Oh…” Carol trailed off. She looked away from Y/N and down at the teen. “I’m sorry you had to hear us arguing.”
“It’s fine…I just…I didn’t want to be the reason you two fought. So, I stayed quiet until I knew I got what both of you wanted. I got accepted into MIT’s online program so I could stay at home with you two, while still attending college,” Peter explained. He used his free hand, wiping away his tears “I wanted to tell you two after our trip to the lake, but then those deathbringers came and ruined it. They ruined everything!”
“Peter, it’ll be okay. We’ll figure something out,” Carol softly assured. Peter angrily shook his head.
“She’s stuck like this, and she doesn’t even remember us!” Peter shouted. Y/N growled, and they looked up, seeing how her Y/E/C eye was staring right at them. There was a hint of remorse in her gaze. A hint of regret. The teen sighed and stood, walking to Y/N, and placing his hand on her snout. The dragon rumbled but it wasn’t a growl.
“See? There’s something of her left,” Carol assured, standing as she did. She walked to Peter’s side and gently guided him away. She wanted to talk with Y/N, but she didn’t want the teen close. “Go back to the ship and see if Strange figured anything out.”
“Alright,” Peter deflated. He patted Y/N’s scales before walking away, leaving Carol by the dragon. She brought her hand up, holding the spot where her mate mark was.
“You told me that when a mate dies, it tears you apart. That the mark will fade…I feel it fading Y/N. Our connection is fading, and it scares me. It doesn’t feel right,” Carol spoke. She met Y/N’s gaze as she squeezed her mark. “I can’t lose you. Not again. Not after everything we’ve been through. If I lose you…then I’ll…I’ll just…”
Carol didn’t voice the rest of her thought. She didn’t want to say out loud that she’d suffer. That she’d likely end it all if it meant losing Y/N again. She had lost so much already and losing her mate would be the death of her. Her promise to Y/N still ran through her mind and she was conflicted. Should she follow through with her promise, or should she follow what she wanted. Her mark ached and she tried to keep her tears from falling. She didn’t know what to do.
Duck on a String
Jessie Fleming x Child!Reader
Summary: Jessie isn't at training
Tumblr media
Jessie was missing.
Okay, well, that was a bit of an exaggeration. She wasn't missing in the sense that the police had to be called but she was definitely missing from training.
She hadn't texted or let any of the team know why but Emma and the other staff hadn't seemed to mind. Regardless though, it was enough for Magda to drag Pernille and Niamh to Jessie's door despite their complaining.
The curtains are closed so Magda can't nose around through the windows so she knocks on the front door.
There's no answer.
She knocks again.
"Maybe she's not in," Niamh says, shoving her hands into her pockets," Can we leave now? I'm hungry."
Magda knocks again, harder this time.
"She's probably sick," Pernille says," She might be napping, Magda. We don't want to-"
The door creaks open.
Magda expects Jessie. Maybe Jessie in her pyjamas or with major bedhead, all red and feverish.
Instead, she gets you.
You're kneeling on the top of the entrance hall table that Jessie uses to put her keys on. You're absolutely tiny and there's no way you could have unlocked the chain lock without it.
Magda expected a sick Jessie.
Instead she gets a sick you.
You're still sitting on the table with wide eyes. Your cheeks are all red and even from the distance, Magda can feel the fever raging through you.
Despite this, you look absolutely adorable, dressed simply in a little duckling shirt and shorts.
"Er..." Magda's at a loss for words and it's clear that Pernille and Niamh are shocked too.
"Hi, sweetheart," Pernille coos at you," Do we have the right house? Is Jessie Fleming here?"
You wiggle down from the table and Pernille reaches out quickly in case you fall but you seem fine.
"Mama!" You call," Mama!"
Footsteps sound and the door open furthers.
"Duckie!" Jessie scolds," What have I said about opening the door?"
"Sorry," You say before pointing at the girls in front of you," Here for you."
Jessie lays a kiss on your cheek before pushing you further into the house.
You waddle off and Niamh smothers a laugh as you pull a set of wooden ducks on a string after you.
Jessie stands in front of her teammates awkwardly. Unlike you, she's not sick. She looks perfectly fine, if a little nervous.
"What's with the kid?" Niamh asks and Jessie looks unbelievably more awkward.
"That's my Duckie," She says," She's sick."
"That explains nothing."
"I-"
There's a crash sound behind her.
"Mama! Duckies go crash!"
"Do you want to come in?" Jessie asks," It's just..." She jerks a thumb behind her.
"That would be nice, Jessie," Pernille says, guiding everyone inside.
You're sitting in the lounge when they make it inside. Your wooden ducks on a string are now sitting on their sides and you've got the biggest pout known to man on your face.
Jessie sets them right and you're off again, wandering around the room in a circle as you drag your ducks behind you.
"I adopted her," Jessie admits," Do you remember the club did that benefit for kids in foster care? Bought them new clothes and toys? I was holding a duck. She was really excited about it."
"A kid is a big step," Pernille advises, not unkindly.
"I know," Jessie says," But...But I looked at her and just knew. You know?"
"Er...not really no," Magda replies, scratching the back of her head as her eyes track your circular motions," But I trust you, Jess. She seems sweet."
The dopiest smile appears on Jessie's face. "Duckie's great. She so sweet."
You turn your head at the sound of your nickname and wander over. Your ducks come trailing after you and you keep a tight grip on their string.
"Hi, Mama!" You give her a big kiss on the cheek.
"Hi, Duckie." Jessie's still got that silly, dopey smile on her face as you give her another kiss. "Theses are my friends Magda, Pernille and Niamh."
"Hi, Magda, Pernille and Niamh!" You say before looking back at Jessie with the exact same dopey smile that she has. "Mama, my duckies say quack!"
"That's right!" Jessie says," Duckies do say quack!"
You giggle hysterically before breaking into a coughing fit that has Jessie gently rubbing you back.
"All better!" You chirp, swiping your nose with your sleeve before hopping down. You grab Niamh's hand and tug at her until she's standing, walking around with her in circles as you pull along your ducks.
"Duckie's usually shy," Jessie admits," She must like you all."
It doesn't seem like you're shy at all until the hours lag on and you grow tired. The sun has set and Jessie's made dinner for all five of you.
That's when the shyness sets in along with the fatigue that Niamh reckons comes with whatever sick bug you've got.
You don't walk in circles with your ducks on the string and you stay very firmly planted in Jessie's lap as she zips up your fluffy duckling sleepsuit.
You yawn, head slumped against Jessie's collarbone as you stare at the three football players. Mama's running her fingers through your damp hair and you really thought her friends would have been gone by the time that you had finished your bath.
You yawn again as your eyes focus on Magda and Pernille. You don't really want to go up to them but you've been having thoughts about them ever since Magda helped you with your farmyard animals puzzle when Mama was cooking.
You wiggle off Mama's lap and toddle over to them.
You take Pernille's hand and put it into Magda's.
"Love each other," You say in your sleepy haze," Forever. Date."
Magda looks up at Jessie in confusion but her teammate is already cooing over you, lifting you up into her arms. You burrow into them quickly and Jessie places a soft felt duck into your hands.
"I think it's bedtime," Mama says to you," Don't you think so?"
"Duckie go night-night," You agree.
Mama smiles. "That's right. Duckie is going night-night. Can you say goodbye to my friends?"
"Bye-bye."
Mama carries you up to bed after taking your temperature one last time. She rubs your back and gives you kisses before tucking you into your bed with your duckie bedsheets and your duckie pillows.
"Goodnight, duckie."
"Night-night, Mama."
Injured (Jenni's Version)
Jenni Hermoso x Child!Reader
Summary: You go home
Tumblr media
You don't understand what's going on.
Well, you do but you don't know why everyone is acting so weird.
Last night, Mami came to visit. She took one look at you and burst into tears. She held you close and cried. She cried and cried and cried and you didn't know how to make her feel better. She just kept crying and holding you.
At first, it was nice. To be held by Mami, you mean, but suddenly her arms felt like shackles around your body, like bricks tried to your legs as you try to fight against the pool you've been thrown into. Everything about her was too hot and too restrictive and you could do little but go limp as she held you.
You're much too tiny to fight against Mami. She is big and strong and you are small and weak.
She released you a little while later and said goodbye.
There was something in the way she said it that seemed very final. You don't know why you called out to her but you did.
She turned, a glimmer of something in her eyes but you just gave her back the train you desperately wanted all those months ago. The one that you had hoped to get for your birthday but didn't. The one you had hoped to get for Christmas but didn't.
You gave it back to her.
"I'm sorry that I don't want to play with it, Mami," You'd told her before retreating back to Mama.
But that was last night and today is different.
Today, you got up early and got dressed and brushed your teeth until they were squeaky clean.
Tia Alba drives you and Mama to the airport. You don't really go to airports a lot.
Mami never liked it bringing you to camps with her so you didn't travel nearly as much as she did, only for very special occasions like the Champion's League final.
Tia Alba comes with you both through check in and she holds you while Mama goes through the scary scanning machine and waits for you on the other side.
It's big and scary and you don't like going through it but Mama is on the other side and she scoops you up into a hug as soon as you make it through.
Airports are big too but you're holding Mama's hand so you feel safe as she leads you through.
It's early and you're hungry and you get a small snack to hold you over.
"Private plane, huh?" Tia Alba teases as she sips a coffee.
Mama rolls her eyes. "They're just happy to have me back. We're lucky they didn't send over an escort to make sure we got home safe."
You don't know a lot, you're only little but you know you're travelling somewhere today. You know this because Mama has two documents that say you're both travelling. She's got your new passport too.
It's got your new name on it and that's how you know it's new.
It's tucked into her coat pocket nice and safe.
You're travelling with your Mama, you know that for certain.
A lot has changed though and you're not too sure what it is exactly. You have a new name and you don't know why. You like your new name though. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Putellas-Hermoso is in your passport now.
You've always thought that the Putellas part of your name looked lonely. You like that it has a friend now.
Tia Alba looks at you and smiles. "Are you happy to be going to Mexico, Bambi?"
"That's where you live!" You tell Mama and she laughs, fondly brushing your hair from your face.
"It's where you live now too."
You frown. "But ballet-"
"There's a ballet studio right down the street from our house," Mama tells you," You've got lessons on Wednesday for two hours and then nine until lunch on Saturdays."
You don't know how to respond to that, perplexed that Mama already knows your new dance schedule.
"That sounds fun," Tia Alba says," I'll have to come visit soon."
Your brows furrow. "You're not coming, Tia?"
She shakes her head. "My life is here, bambi," She says.
"So's mine," Your voice isn't even above a whisper and no one hears you. You've never thought about leaving Spain before, not permanently anyway.
Mami told you that it's because you're like her. You're a homebody. You're just like Mami.
You don't know if you want to be like Mami anymore.
The Putellas in your old passport always looked lonely. It has Hermoso now so it's not lonely anymore. But you don't think Hermoso would be lonely if it was by itself.
A fancy man in a suit comes up to Mama, whispering in her ear and she nods, picking you up on her hips easily.
She and Tia Alba wheel the suitcases after him.
You wander through the back halls of the airport until you're on the tarmac where a plane is waiting.
Tia Alba called it a private plane. You know Mami's been on those lots but you haven't been once. When you've travelled, it's been with Tia Alba or Abuela in one of the normal people's planes.
This is new and a little strange but not unwelcome, you think.
There are stairs leading up to it and Tia Alba stops at the bottom of them. She kneels in front of you and cups your face.
"I love you, bambi," She says to you, looking deep into your eyes," And I will come visit you very soon." She gives you a big hug that you somehow feel in your very soul.
"I love you too, Tia Alba," You say and Mama takes your hand to lead you inside.
You don't remember much of the flight.
You know a few things though.
It is long, very long. You sleep a lot and eat when Mama says that you should. She holds you as you sleep. You are not coming back to Spain for a long while.
You don't know that last one for sure but you still think it's true.
Deep down, you know it is true.
You think Tia Alba knew that too which is why she came with you all the way to the plane steps.
But still, you sleep for most of the flight, wrapped up protectively in Mama's strong arms.
You float between sleep and awake but Mama never disappears. Her arms hold you close and her perfume wraps around you like a blanket.
You are still tired when the plane lands. You remain tired in the trip from the airport to where Mama lives.
It is dark out now, night time and you should really be asleep.
You're sleepy but you can't sleep. Mami once said you got that from her too.
You don't want that from her though.
You only got the bad bits from Mami, you think. You can't sleep because she can't sleep. You don't go out because she doesn't go out.
You wish you got the good parts of Mami like her ability to kick a ball. You think Mami could have loved you if you could kick a ball. You think Mami would have let you stay if you could kick a ball.
Or, maybe, you could have gotten her confidence. Mami knows how to speak to people. She knows how to tell people how she's feeling. You can't do that. Maybe, if you had told Mami at the beginning, when she still loved you enough to care, she wouldn't have sent you away.
Maybe, if you had tried to be the good parts of Mami instead of the bad then you could have lived with her and Olga and Jaume.
You are with Mama now though. That is good. You like that. You know you're going to like living with Mama but some awful part of you still yearns for the Mami from Before.
You think that Mami from Before would have come to you when you fell off the slide.
You'd like to think the Mami from Before would do that but you wonder if the Mami from Before even cared about you. You wonder if you were her little guinea pig so she could be a good Mami to Jaume.
You hope you aren't.
But...
The car shuts off and Mama picks you out of your car seat. She drags in the bags but sets you on the floor so she can pick out her house keys from her pocket.
Mama has a doorknocker on her door. She doesn't have a doorbell like Mami does. Her doorknocker is pristine. It is clean and not stiff at all. You can tell it is old though but it's definitely looked after.
Mama ushers you inside, flicking on the lights as soon as she gets the lights on.
"Do you want to look around by yourself or do you want me to go around with you?"
You don't answer Mama.
She's got a mantelpiece above a fireplace that you wonder ever gets used.
But it's neither the mantel nor the fire that actually has your attention.
There's a picture that you're focussed on.
Mama is smiling at the camera. She's holding you when you were a baby, wrapped in the soft pink baby blanket she bought for you when you were very little.
She's beaming as she looks at the camera and you look perfectly happy and content in her arms.
"That's you," Mama says," When you were still a baby. I visited you and Alexia in hospital. After her and the doctors, I was the next person to hold you."
"Really?"
"Really." Mama's hand rests on your shoulder and you lean into her legs. "How about we get ready for bed? It's late."
You let her lead you away, up the stairs into what you assume is your new bedroom.
It is different from your bedroom back home. There is a mirror and a barre like at your ballet studio and rows of ballet pumps lined up next to it.
"I had someone do it up while I came to get you," Mama explains as she rummages through a few boxes for pyjamas.
They're train-themed and Mama has to puppeteer your arms because you're so exhausted.
You're so tired and you feel so strange and Mama is so warm and safe that you burst into tears.
They bubble up from some secret part of you and tear from your throat. They're full-on sobs as well, your body shaking from exertion as each of them comes out.
Mama's hands flutter uncertainly around you before you're lying against her on your new bed.
Your tears drip-drop onto her shirt and one of her big hands cup the back of your head, pushing it further into her like you're a little baby like Jaume.
You wonder if Mami is going to give your train to Jaume. You wonder if she did it last night after she visited you. You wonder if Mami is happy you are gone now.
You wonder if she's going to turn your room into Jaume's new playroom. You wonder if she's going to be happier now that she doesn't have to fit your ballet into her schedule anymore.
You have Mama now but that doesn't mean you don't think of Mami while you cry. You have Mama and she is strong and brave and you think she can take care of your feelings for you while you're still weak and scared.
You have Mama but she is not Mami like how Mami is not Mama.
Mama could never be Mami and you don't want her to be.
Mami never wanted you. You think you know that now. You think you know you were the biggest mistake of Mami's life. You think you are lucky that she loved you enough to look after you until someone else could.
You think Mami is special. She wins lots of awards for her football. People admire your Mami. They chant her name and scream their praise. Mami wins medals and trophies. She's one of the best football players in the world.
You think she'll be the best Mami in the world to Jaume too.
No, you know she'll be the best Mami in the world to Jaume.
Mami has always been a good Mami to Jaume. Jaume who is named after Abuelo. Jaume who is Olga's baby. Jaume who is wanted and loved and planned.
Everyone loves Jaume.
You love him too though you wish that you didn't. You think you would be happier if you could hate Jaume, if you could dislike him at all but he's only little and he's still your brother so you love him.
Your family shares love equally between you and him, you think, or they try to. They try to have the same amount of love for you as they have for him. You don't think that's easy to do.
You think that's why you've gone away with Mama.
It is hard and it is mean but it is what has happened.
Jaume is littler than you. He needs more help to grow up. He needs more love than you because he's a little boy and you're a big girl. You think he's going to be a footballer like Mami so he has to stay close to her so he can learn.
If one of you had to leave, of course it would be you.
In a secret part of you, hidden deep down, you think it is nice that you're left with Mama. She will never love Jaume as much as she loves you. It is bad to think about that but you like it.
You like that you don't have to share Mama's love.
You like that you will be the only child she will hold like this. You will be the only child she will tuck into bed or help at bath time. You will be the only child who will live in this house with her.
You will be the only one who she loves like this.
You do not feel bad that Jaume will never experience your Mama. He has Mami and Olga and the rest of the family.
He has a Putellas. He has always been a Putellas. He will always be a Putellas. He is Mami's son.
You have Mama. You are a Hermoso. You haven't always been a Hermoso. You will be a Hermoso forever though.
You are Mama's daughter.
Jealous
Hardersson x Child!Reader
Part of The Big Adventures Universe
Summary: Pernille's a little jealous
Tumblr media
Pernille wouldn't call herself a jealous person. She's never really wanted what others had. She's never looked at something someone has had and desperately wanted it for herself.
Similarly, she's never had a problem with people looking at Magda. She's never had a problem with fans fawning over her or some girl trying to dance with her at a club.
Pernille knows Magda loves her. She knows that Magda would never stray. They have you together. They've built a family together.
Pernille knows that you and her are the most important things in Magda's life.
Which is why it's strange that she's feeling jealous right now.
She'd just come in from training, hair slightly damp from the sudden rain shower that appeared and feeling glad she had sent you inside with Magda earlier.
Magda had cut her own session short after feeling a twinge in her ankle so went in to get it taped as a precaution.
The physio's office is where Pernille finds you and her now.
Magda's sitting in one of the beds, leg stretched outwards as one of the new physios massages her leg despite it being an ankle injury that sent her indoors.
You're in her lap and Magda's desperately trying to braid your hair back from where it's escaped from your hair tie.
She's not doing very well. Usually, she'll just throw it up into a ponytail and call it a day but Pernille thinks it's nice that Magda's trying so hard to give you a hairstyle that you'll really like.
It's a brief thought though as Pernille's eyes focus on the young physio.
She's talking to you in particular, nodding along as you babble about what you did last night and how Magda read your bedtime story and how you slept in her newest Sweden jersey.
The physio smiles at you before glancing up at Magda. "You're feeling really tight there, Mags. Really having to use all my strength here."
It's a blatant attempt at flirting as the physio bats her eyes a few times before letting out a groan of effort that could easily be sexual.
It makes Pernille's blood boil. One, because it's very obvious that she and Magda are together and two, that this new physio is using you to try and worm her way into Magda's heart.
She's fawning and cooing over you and Magda (poor, sweet, oblivious Magda) can't even tell.
That's the other annoying bit. Magda has no clue she's being flirted with and that really pisses Pernille off. It's not the first time something like this has happened before either.
Magda never knew when a girl was flirting with her. She never knew until they attempted to kiss her and Pernille had hoped that the years would have made Magda more aware of it happening but clearly not.
The physio giggles again and it takes everything in Pernille not to snap at her.
Instead, she plucks you off Magda's lap without saying anything, adjusting you so you're on her hip.
"I'm taking her home," She says, trying not to lose her temper as the physio inches her hands further up Magda's leg," The rain isn't going to let up anytime soon. Practice is postponed."
"Give me a few minutes," Magda says," We're nearly done here."
The physio pouts and it sends another bolt of anger down Pernille's spine. She doesn't like the way her hand it still on Magda's leg. It's inappropriate for work.
If Magda needs her leg massaged then Pernille would be happy to do it herself at home.
"I need to grab my bag." She says instead," If you're not by the car in five minutes then I'm leaving without you."
Momma walks off without Morsa, who scrambles away from the weird lady who was touching her.
You frown.
Momma doesn't talk to Morsa like that, all angry and annoyed. It's strange.
"Momma," You say as Momma grabs her bag and makes her way out to the car," Why's Morsa not coming with?"
Momma's jaw is clenched. You can tell.
"That's your Morsa's choice," Momma tells you as she straps you into your seat.
She slides into her chair just as Morsa comes running out the building.
She tries to open the passenger door but can't.
Momma's locked it.
"Pernille!" Magda bangs on the window. "Pernille, come on! I'm here!"
"You're late."
"I was just talking to Elizab-"
"Elizabeth!" Pernille snaps and your head ping pongs between them," Well, why don't you go back to talking to Elizabeth while you wait for your taxi to turn up!"
"Pernille! Really? Are we really going to argue right now? I don't even know what I've done wrong!"
"Then you've got lots of time on the trip home to work it out!"
Magda is silent for a while before it all seems to dawn on her. "Is this really about Elizabeth? Pernille-"
"You better not be about to tell me that it's all in my head! Her hands were way too high up to be a massage. In front of Princesse as well! In front of our child!"
"Let me in!" Magda says," I promise that I didn't realise! I thought she was just being helpful."
Pernille draws in a long breath. She knows that she's being irrational but sometimes these things just creep up on her.
She unlocks the car and Magda slips in.
"Hi, Morsa!" you chirp and she looks back to look at you.
"Hi, Princesse."
"Why'd Momma lock you out?"
Magda almost laughs as Pernille's hands clench around the steering wheel, pulling out of the parking spot and beginning to drive home.
"Well, I'm a little silly sometimes. Do you know what flirting is?"
You nod. "Like how Sam's girlfriend makes her feel all giggly and silly by talking to her."
"Exactly like that," Magda laughs," Well, Elizabeth was trying to flirt with me but I'm silly so I didn't notice."
"Oh," You say," That's bad because you're with Momma."
"That's right so that upset Momma a little bit," Magda continues," And when I didn't react to her flirting, she tried touching me to see if I was interested."
You frown. "Is that why she offered you the massage even though you hurt your ankle and not your knee?"
"That's-"
"She asked about it in front of Princesse?!" Pernille demands before this whole situation becomes a bit too funny for her liking. "And you didn't realise, Magda? God, how oblivious are you?"
Magda's cheeks go red with embarrassment. "Well," She says," I know you like me hot and oblivious. That way no one can take me from you."
Pernille full on laughs. "As if you would let yourself be taken."
"And Momma didn't like her touching you either?" You ask, your mind still trying to work out what has just happened.
"I didn't like it at all," Pernille says," And I was very annoyed that your Morsa let it happen."
The car is silent for a few minutes as you turn it over in your head before calling for Magda's attention again.
"You should tell Elizabeth that Momma will beat her up if she tries it again!"
