NAZ & KAREEMâ:
Following the first half of his advice was easy enough, but the rest? Not so much. âIf it was just about her thinking itâd been too long since Iâd gone on a proper date thatâd be one thing,â Naz admitted while slipping her phone back into the depths of her purse. âBut itâs⊠more than that.â More than she was willing to openly talk about in the middle of a bar, too. Or, you know, at all. No matter how many drinks she plied herself with Nazli never, not once, slipped up and went down the road that led to all things Jake.
âYouâre not wrong, though. The simplest answer would be to just say no and leave it at that.â Unfortunately, Beren was relentless. If she didnât manage to convince her sister she was as fine as she insisted, sheâd just start banging at the door. More to herself than him, she snorted under her breath at the thought, then swallowed the sound with a drink. And that was when something about the wine in her glass and the guy to her right clicked. In a complete about face, she blurted, âWait. You work at the gallery, right?âÂ
Elaboration wasnât requested. Far be it from him to pry, and if Naz wasnât going to offer up the information freely, then he would let that part of the conversation trail and die off. Itâs not as if Kareemâs own life hadnât endured its fair share of turbulent waves. The last time heâd come close to anything serious, he had ducked out before he could make that final dive of commitment into marriage. âWell, if you are unhappy with this arrangement that she has set up, your discontentment should trump any other reason.â Thatâs all he could really say on that.Â
With a swirl of his own wine glass, a manicured brow rose near up to his hairline at the sudden turn about in the conversation. âYes, I am a curator over at the gallery.â Most faces in Vancouver were familiar by this point, though always placing them could be difficult. He believed that Naz lived in the same residential area as him, but her job at the vineyard didnât click to him in the moment despite the many times heâd been there. "Why do you ask?"

CAMILLE & KAREEMâ:
Thereâs something to be said for the absolute delight it is to find a kindred spirit. Camille has a newfound appreciation for it as she leans back in her lounge chair, crossing her ankles as she sips her own steaming coffee. You can say what you want about living downtown, but itâs never a dull day. She squints down at the sight Kareem has highlighted, coughing out a laugh. âA rally for absolute clowns, sure. Has he really matched his atrocious cowboy boots to that horrifying bike? And his dogâs collar while heâs at it? What in the white people audacity is happening?â
The scenery of the early hours of day is great, but the company is even better. Having unfiltered conversation with Camille is always a treat as she is one of the curated few that is just as sharp-tongued as he is, and thereâs never the compulsion to hold back his criticisms. Hers are equally matched, and he sets his mug down on the bar table that he had hooked up to the edge of his balcony with a hearty chuckle. âI didnât see him unlatching a helmet, so we can guess that his brains have been scrambled a few times and thatâs why he thinks itâs socially acceptable to be seen like that in broad daylight.â He picks off a piece of his chocolate croissant, eyes sweeping for another patron to pick apart.Â

CLOSED starter for @parkcamilleâ set in The Drive
The ceramic mug in his hand that he had crafted himself is filled to the brim with only the finest brew crafted from Tanzania Peaberry coffee beans that he had finally received after being wait-listed for the past year. As he brings the cup to his lips, Kareemâs eyes dart over the passerbys on the street below. âThat one has to be going through a mid-life crisis,â he mulls to his neighbor companion from across their balconies, casually and discreetly pointing to a patron that has hopped off of a neon orange Harley Davidson in full chaps and a cowboy hat. âThat or they took the wrong turn on their way to the nearest rally.âÂ

SILAS & KAREEMâ:
status: openÂ
where: anywhere!Â
@vancitystartersââ
âIf you were gone from the city for say, I donât know,â He pauses, as if heâs plucking a random number from the air when in truth he has a very specific one in mind, âSeven years, whatâs the first thing youâd do when you got back?âÂ
âAs someone who hasnât even lived here seven years, one of the first things I did when I moved here was do a food tour of Gastown. It was a great initiation into the cuisine here.â The suggestion is punctured with a shrug, as heâs not sure what the man is looking for with the vague question. âI feel as if I would be doing my job a disservice if I also didnât highly recommend the Context House Art Gallery.â

NAZLı & KAREEMâ:
â CITY BREW PUB, with anyone | open - closed | @vancitystartersââ
âThis is a little awkward, but could youâ could you do me a favor?â Before she could second guess herself, or the idea entirely, Naz slid her phone across the bar. âHonest opinion. Does this picture scream swipe left or swipe right?â Although sheâd be the first to admit she wasnât even sure which answer she preferred. She was (almost) certain she had no interest in dating. Just like she was (pretty) sure she didnât want to admit her sister might be right. âIâm trying to avoid getting set up on anymore blind dates, but the only way my sister will stop is if I prove I have it handled on my own.âÂ
A short glance was spared to give the screen a look. âSwipe hard left.â Not just because the person in the photo wasnât Kareemâs type, but also because he could never be the type of person who would use a dating app simply because a family member was being pushy about him needing to date. âThe way you can stop your sister is actually to put your foot down and not go to the dates that she sets up.â To Kareem, the answer was so simple. If her sister put up a fuss, so be it. Thatâs not something that would concern Kareem who only cared to answer to his own wants and needs first and foremost. But perhaps she shouldnât be taking advice from the man with an unimpressive record with love.Â
