I'm not usually into Reader Insert fics but I've gotta say I actually really liked this one! Pre-Entity Wraith is one of my favorite things to write and read about. Good job OP!

OK so I knew Renee and her son were your OCs but Im ngl I had to look up wraith's lore to check if Anastasia was an actual character because she came off as canon so well! I thought it was interesting that you expanded on Azarov bc we know so little of him and it just makes sense that he'd have a daughter that Philip would fall for lol. I'm curious what led to your choice of creating her? Awesome fic keep going!
Oh thanks! I'm really satisfied with how I wrote her and I'm happy to know she was good enough to feel like a natural character!
The main reason why I created her in the first place is because I'm writing a comprehensive character study on Philip. Essentially, my goal is to fully flesh out Philip's life, from childhood all the way to his adulthood. Part of the fun of this is filling in what the lore doesn't tell us, allowing me the creative freedom to make these OCs to fill in parts of Philip's life.
Anastasia came to life BECAUSE there's so little we know of Azarov and I wanted to take the opportunity to expand on him, just as you said. I really liked the idea of writing him as a vile businessman who comes off as the snake he is, but giving him a daughter who is the complete opposite of him - kind, soft spoken, affectionate, etc. There are hints that she's well aware of what happens in Autohaven Wreckers and even despises it, but there's also the sense that she's helpless to do anything about it. She kept Philip oblivious to it all for years for his safety, but should she have kept it from him? Was it a good choice or a selfish one? That's left open-ended for readers (and even me) to debate.
Her relationship with Philip falls in line with the atmosphere of the first chapter. Autohaven is a tragic, harrowing place. Nothing that goes on there ends up with a happy ending. Philip and Ana are no exception to this, either. Clearly there was something there that could never actually be fully explored, and that little subplot is intended to fill in what we don't know about the Wraith in his life; his love life. Anastasia was his first love, and yet like everyone else he loved, Philip lost her by reasons out of his control. Even if it isn't loss in the physical sense, the pain is still there and they both feel it.
I wanted to sell the idea of Philip being a bit of a hopeless romantic and I needed someone to have a meaningful conversation with him in the beginning of the first chapter. I needed to introduce both his quiet personality and my interpretation of it. What better way to do that than to bring in an OC who will bring out the rawest side of him?
Also, as an added bonus, upon creating her I unintentionally made her physically similar to Nea, which I thought was funny at first. But now, as I'm drafting how that relationship is gonna turn out, Anastasia makes for a good character that is the start of Philip's romantic transition, from her to (eventually) Nea. This will become more apparent once I get to that part of OIN's story and I can't say much on it now, but there's a lot of promising interaction and symbolism on the way as Philip's affections will gradually shift from kind, quiet Ana to not-so-kind, not-so-quiet Nea lmao.

Do you have any headcanons for Philip or any of the other killers/survivors?
Oh goodness, I have loads. I could go on and on really, but for this ask I'll stick with Philip. Let me know if you'd like to know about some others. ^^
I hc Philip as ethnically Igbo, which is one of the larger tribes of Nigeria and are mostly found in the southeast areas of the country. There's lots of evidence in his lore that points to this being the case, and I've made a Tumblr post about it before detailing how I came to this hc!
Adding onto my first hc, Philip's tome lore hints that he not only was there during the war, but was also a survivor of the Anti-Igbo progrom of 1966, in which a massacre was committed against the Igbo people, presumably from soldiers of the opposing Hausa-Fulani people and/or those native to Northern Nigeria who aligned with the growing hatred of the Igbo people during that time. I therefore like to hc that Philip is also a genocide survior.
His adoptive mother, Funanya, was born Igbo but married Hausa. When war broke out and she lost her husband, she tried to flee to the south with her children when she found Philip. Because it was extremely dangerous for an orphaned Igbo boy to be in the north where the war and killings took place, she taught him everything she could about the Hausa culture, including their muslim-based religion, language, and traditions. It's because of her that Philip was able to survive by pretending to be Hausa.
I'm sure I've made it obvious enough, but Philip has some severe and untreated C-PTSD. C, because his trauma spans over years of his life and cannot be considered one singular event. His symptoms tend to manifest as psychogenic tremors, prone to panic attacks, dissociation, heightened anxiety and vivid nightmares. Daytime flashbacks are rare for him, but if stressed out enough and exposed to a major trigger, they can and will happen to him as well. The smell of blood, the sound of gunfire and fire are his three biggest and most prevalent triggers.
Philip developed alcoholism as an unhealthy coping mechanism. He's an extremely emotional and depressed drunk, the kind of person who's pretty much the opposite of the fun party drinker. He's prone to very quickly losing control of his own emotions and crying instead. Drinking is the only way he knows how to knock himself out enough to avoid vivid, PTSD driven nightmares of Nigeria.
On a way less depressing note, Philip is lactose intolerant! But he'll 100% sacrifice his tummy every now and then for a good bowl of ice cream.
Philip is left-handed, but learned very early on to not use his left hand when interacting with others because it is considered rude and taboo in Nigerian culture (and generally in many other African cultures). His parents understood that his brain is just wired differently so they never forced or trained him into right-handedness, but they both kinda taught him early on to be mindful to use his right hand in public for things other than throwing or writing.
I hc Philip as a demisexual (possibly biromantic as well, but that's not something he's ever bothered to explore). He's the kind of person who definitely strikes me as ace, not ever having a sexual interest because he's such a lonely person and is just not immediately attracted to anyone at all. However, Philip is also a deeply emotional man and relies on them a lot, so it's only when he's developed a bond with someone that he'll start to develop that physical attraction. He quite literally NEEDS that emotional/romantic connection in order to be able to engage in sex, let alone enjoy it. Casual stuff is a total no for him. He tried it only one or two times as a troubled teenager and quickly found that he did NOT enjoy the experience. He just can't do it.
Philip's love language is both touch and undivided attention. He's the kind of person who is deeply devoted to his partner and, once he feels safe and secure in the relationship, will give you his whole heart. He's kind of terrible at speaking because he's such an introverted person, so he expresses his love through physical touch as well as almost always paying attention to his partner and their needs.
In terms of intimacy, Philip as an ace person isn't really all that excited about sex. He'll still definitely enjoy it with his special person, and he'll most definitely initiate it every now and then because he does find his partner physically attractive since he's deeply emotionally connected to them, but to him sex is a bonding experience and less of something to do just for fun. He's extremely romantic in bed - eye contact, kisses, little praises, holding hands, slower pace, you name it. His entire focus will be to please his partner and not himself. He doesn't need or care much about reaching climax, he'll be perfectly fulfilled with the experience knowing his partner feels good and is satisfied.
Since he'd moved to the US, Philip is a bit insecure of his accent because it really makes him stand out. Over time he's managed to tone it down significantly, but it's still there and still very noticeable, just perhaps easier to understand. When he'd first moved, he had a hyperfixation on touching up his English and sounding as well spoken as possible in hopes it would minimize his chances of being picked on as a black immigrant in the country. This was the 1970s, after all.
I'm sure this also goes without saying lol, but Philip is way more attractive than he gives himself credit for. Yes, half his face has been burned, but he'd been lucky enough to put himself out when it happened fairly quickly, so the damage didn't get too far deep into his skin. The burn scars haven't really disfigured his handsome features all that much, just changed the texture and color of his skin. Still, he often feels ugly because of how he looks.
Because Philip had nearly starved to death as a child in Nigeria a number of times, he kinda has an obsession with being as physically healthy as he can be. He runs a lot and does a decent amount of exercise to keep himself lean and in shape, because it feels good having a sense of control over his own body. He never EVER wants to feel malnourished again in his life.
Philip is a very tall man, like 6 feet and some inches and fairly broad in the shoulders. Despite his size, he's developed a natural talent for being extremely silent and light on his feet. When he wants to, Philip can move as quietly as a mouse and is pretty agile on top of that. It's a useful trait to have in the realm (in the context of OIN at least)- you'd think a big guy like him is an easy target to chase, but Philip has the impressive capacity to be deceivingly stealthy and hard to track.
Math (unsurprisingly) is his favorite subject, and Philip is also highly intelligent in this regard. He's a very quick analytical thinker and can do complex math problems in his head fairly well. It comes in handy with his job in Autohaven, to be able to make quick calculations and measurement conversions.
I definitely have more hcs but these are some of the big ones that I can articulate off the top of my head. Thanks for asking!

Hey, it's been a while! Life and health has been a bit of a priority for the last month and has taken up a lot of my writing time. Additionally, chapter 6 has practically doubled in size since its first draft due to expanded ideas.
I'm not going to give an approximate date since that seems to spell bad luck, but I can confidently say chapter 6 is back at near-completion and will be out... soon. God, please don't smite me again thanks.
NOTE: I am also in the process of editing and reformatting my published chapters, which is a process by itself. However, I feel it necessary to ensure my earliest chapters are up to speed and consistent with my writing style as it changes here and there. For example, I will be abandoning memories and dreams being in italics because of how prevelant they will be in OIN and to make them less of an eyesore to read.

“I still can’t believe you were born in the ‘50s.”
Meg bounds ahead of Philip as they trek into the forest, walking backwards. The young athlete looks up at him with big, wondrous eyes. He’s out to scavenge with her and Jake, hoping to find medical supplies since they are running low.
Or, as Philip likes to consider it whenever Meg is with them, babysitting.
He continues forward, hands on his bag straps, completely unphased by the redhead trotting backwards in front of him. He raises a brow, “Is that so odd?”
“Well, yeah. You know in my year that makes you, like, 80?” Meg says. She stumbles over a branch, nearly tripping back on it. Philip shoots an arm out to grab her and keep her steady.
“No, it would make me 62,” he amends, grumbling.

I really want to believe this is a troll attempt but unfortunately I have been harassed before this for very similar things not too long ago. My initial reaction to this was to ignore the ask but honestly? I'm happy to put this out there so that anyone in the dbd fandom looking at the tags provided can see this and either 1. Think before they decide to push their bs onto other DBD fanfiction writers and discourage them or 2. See this and feel reassured to know that it is PERFECTLY fine to write DBD fanfiction with any of the characters, regardless of their own identity.
Dead by Daylight is a niche enough fandom where this Twitblr nonsense does not happen often (thankfully) but I've seen and heard of this recent gatekeeping mentality starting to run rampant in the biggest and most popular fandoms. At least now, there's a statement out in our own little space for what think of people like this.
I tried to read your fic because the premise is interesting but tbh the fact that you claim to not be a poc puts a bad taste in my mouth, especially because its obvious you're not. Its so tiring seeing poc characters being written by people who obviously don't know what to do with them or write them correctly. Most of your fic is Philip being portrayed as weak and afraid which isn't a good look for his character or your view of people like him. Do better, and maybe do some research while you're at it.

Listen, I've already been through this. I don't know if you are among the same people who raided me and cried to me not too long ago about writing a black character as a non-black individual. If you are, kindly screw off my blog. Click the back button on my fic and move on if it bothers you, it's literally that easy. I'm not dealing with this again.
If you're not, allow me to tell you something: The fact that your interpretation of Philip's very clear symptoms of PTSD and anxiety is weakness and fear says a lot about how you view his character and people like him. For God's sake, Philip's canon lore even describes him as a man who has witnessed unspeakable things as a child and an adult and who has literally lost everyone and everything he's ever loved. He is a genocide survivor.
Consider the fact that, on top of his mountain of childhood trauma and his often crippling anxiety, he's just been kidnapped by an Eldrich God and tossed into a new world where nothing makes sense and he's bound to die over and over again. Of COURSE he's going to be exceptionally vulnerable and sensitive. Of course he's going to have a mental breakdown. Of course he's going to get so overwhelmed by the sheer absurdity that he'd succumb to a panic attack or two. That's not weakness, my friend. That is the effects of trauma on a broken person.
I'm not going to say my depictions of Philip and his struggling mental health is a perfect representation, but I can and will say that I've done my damn hardest to be as accurate and plausible as possible within the world of DBD. I've done my research. Hours and hours worth of it, actually. Sorry that it wasn't enough for you, although I suspect no amount of research was ever going to please someone like you. :)
