Rewatched Fury Road tonight and something that struck me was how decorated everything is. The Wives, obviously, are decorated both for Joe in their flimsy gauze, and also for themselves with tattoos and dyed hair. But everything else, too. The War Boys decorate their cars in skulls and war trophies. Immortan Joe’s mask has teeth and his sons and the People Eater are wearing jewelry. Furiosa’s prosthetic has what looks like a leather ribbing or slashing on the shoulder piece. The Vuvalini give Furiosa and the Wives blankets and headbands that are embroidered and woven with patterns. Even the War Rig has Immortan Joe’s crest embossed on the ceiling in a deliberately shiny metal.

Nothing here is purely utilitarian. Even when the majority of time is dedicated to fighting over enough water to survive, people still create art.

it is me. i’m him i’m the dumbass. i’ve been so swamped in commission work and university that i straight up forgot the sacred rituals of just crying over a drawing because i want to make it. here is a work in progress shots of my latest self indulgent piece!!

i like to call this “The Resentful Wives”, because i love to use popular pieces to feel like a better artist, and because the girls deserved so much better

This thing has teeth - Slit/Nux

Slit roars, scars bunching on his cheeks, eyes wild and wide and absolutely terrifying. His opponent shrinks back, blood spraying as Slit follows viciously. Nux throws his arms up, shouts Slit’s glory, sloshing beer over himself and the men pressed tight around him. No one complains, all caught in the spell that Slit has bound them under. A body thuds on the hard floor of the cage and Slit howls like an animal, beating his own chest twice with a bloody fist. The referee gapes by the cage, microphone limp in his hand, blood sprayed on his cheek. Slit kicks the body on the floor with the toe of his boot, the man rolls over, weakly trying to push at Slit’s leg. Begging for mercy. Nux pushes through the crowd, presses himself against the cage and bangs his hands against the metal bars. His head. “We have a winner,” roars the referee finally into his microphone and the crowd somehow, impossibly becomes even louder. Slit clambers out of the top of the cage, stands on the metal bars and the crowd chants his name. Nux loses himself in the chants, sways, body thrashing against the cage, eyes glued to Slit. Slit’s head whips around, sweat and blood flying, eyes meeting Nux’s straight on. The world comes to a screeching halt, breath stuck in Nux's throat. Slit points at him, roars and laughs and Nux points back, skin pulling tight over his skeleton, shivers down his spine. He wants that blood on his lips.

i had originally planned to draw them powernapping in their vehicles, because i found that perfect. however, i sketched right on the original photos, and the resolution was so bad it turned into basically pixel art… so here’s the little guys under the signs, for your viewing pleasure

For the character bingo! I'd love to see your takes on Nux and Immortan Joe!

You unleashed a monster the moment you said Nux. That’s my BOY. My #1 blorbo. Absolute baby man love of my life. I love everything about him (maybe I’m biased because I love Nick Hoult as well, but GOD his performance- I cry at the ending canyon scene every time.), his character arc, his rabid puppy dog personality, all the little hints into his psyche and tidbits of a life lived that we never get to go into true full detail about. And to top it all off I am, like my username suggests, crazy about War Boys. I could talk about him/them forever but I fear I’ve already said too much.

THEE Daddy War Crimes- I have a love/hate relationship with him bc he is indeed a Bastard but he’s a very stylish bastard with an incredible voice and manipulative charm and I also think I’m physically incapable of feeling negatively towards HKB or any of his characters.
