We got such a lovely surprise today! Someone visited our Chewy wishlist and got the doggies lots of goodies! Pops’ lab results came back today with what we feared. The tumor was so abnormal that they weren’t sure exactly what it was, but they know it’s malignant that it’s spreading rapidly. The way Doc put it was that it’s the crazy ones like his that are typically the most aggressive. Most likely it’s nerve related, bc at this point he’s knuckling his foot and doesn’t know it. Amputation would be too difficult on him, due to his body type and age, so at this point we’ll keep him happy and comfortable until we no longer can. Currently he’s still himself, still loves his food and in good spirits, so we’ll pray that it continues on for a while. I dread the day, really dread the day, but I will cherish the moments until then. This evening we had to say goodbye to one of the kindest hearts ever. Mr Fitzgerald (aka: Big Fitz, Mr Fitz, and Big Guy) lost the ability to get up, walk comfortably, and control his potty habits, and he was falling regularly. Despite his ever precious smile and positive attitude, he was exhausted. It was time to give him back his strength. He’s now pain free, running as he did when he was a youngster, being the Pyrenees who joins his fellow breed mates in protecting the heavens. It must be a beautiful sight. We are so thankful for the joy and vibrance he now experiences. Genuinely kind, silly and charming…that’s the only way to describe our Mr Fitzgerald. What a blessing he placed in our lives. What blessings he brought to his foster mommy. I know I’ll see you again and get my favorite head hug, big guy. It will be one of my greatest pleasures. Crushed. 💔 Today we did Pops’ biopsy, and when Doc got in there he learned that the tumor was wrapped all around the muscles…and it’s big. He sent a sample to the lab, but he also looked at it under the scope. He said the cells were unfamiliar, maybe lymphoma?? (but not a likely place), but that they were angry. We don’t love angry cells. The lab will tell us exactly what kind they are, but the end result will most likely be what we’ve dreaded. We’ll keep you up to date. Our sweet, perfect Pops…. He’s still happy and silly for now, thankfully, and will obviously become a sanctuary member.
