Some of you know that I’ve been experimenting a lot with different styles and subjects… and I’ve looked at a LOT of art. What’s become really clear is that I’m drawn over and over to water, whether it’s the beach, the bay or marsh areas. The beach in particular has always felt alive and free to me. It’s been my happy place for most of my life, even though I don’t live right on the shore. I’ll still paint landscapes too, but I’m going to concentrate on beach and bay themes because I think we, as artists are most expressive when we’re working with a subject that really speaks to us. Just finished this piece, but really this was just a practice piece and there are definitely some things I would change about it… namely the clouds in the upper right. They are too parallel. 🌟 I’ve said before how I love taking classes and learning about how other artists paint. This was from a tutorial. I was interested in her technique for clouds and that intersection between ocean and sand. I like the effect, but she used a lot of backward scrumming with the brushes and lots of bits of bristle broke off into the painting. She had mentioned this in the tutorial and said they’d be easy to sweep away after the painting dried, but I did not find this to be the case. 🌟 If any of you have experience with this, I’d love to hear about it. I used good quality (Escoda) hogs hair brushes.. the ones that were recommended. Day 5: Artist Hack or Tip 🌟 This is for oil painting. If you’re in the middle of painting something, you can put your whole paint pallet and brushes in the freezer over night (or even for a number of days) and just bring them back out when you’re ready to finish painting. Day 2 #augustforartists Why you started creating I was that kid who was always drawing and painting. Any time I could take a class or go to a camp, it was some type of art camp.
