Things I've learnt playing main story yesterday, in no particular order:

I was about 15 minutes of playtime away from freeing Linda these past six months

Even before freeing Linda I could've unlocked mistfall, the one area that I couldn't get into.

Dayblockers are 100% still a thing, and deeply annoying

When the dayblockers aren't there it's a different type of annoying, mostly in the shape of absolutely botched dialogue and also the fact the game is incapable of keeping track of where npcs are (Alex kept jumpscaring me by popping in and out of existence, notably being Right There as Linda talked abt waiting for Alex to get back)

Introduction quests to area's you can get to without doing the introduction quests are funny (Firgrove introduction). Introduction quests in the main storyline to area's that have their own standalone introduction quests are funnier (Ydris's circus)

The problem with morality in sso is that you have no option to be evil on purpose, and most evil characters are written badly enough that it's Really clear when MC is helping the bad guys by accident, making it just a Fascinatingly Dumb thing to happen (helping out Sabine kidnapping Justin, having Zero questions about giving magical five-leaf clovers (which. aren't that rare at all.) to a Literal Witch).

Mistfall is Very very pretty, I get why a lot of people put their home stable there.

Somehow the dialogue makes "experienced rider" sound like a slur to me. Maybe I am but how would you know, girl who's been locked up in a castle for six months

Ydris calling me horsewoman right before/after killing my internet connection and thus both my stream and my game, however, sounds like he knows I have a tumblr and had to get my url past the sso chat censor.

I have two finals this week and I just got invited for a PowerPoint evening on Friday so I have to make a funny presentation Friday afternoon. I settled on the topic

please can we start a petition, for SSE to give Alex a proper bareback pad without stirrups?

Every time I see it I just get the ick. I have no problem with her riding bareback, even the girth-saddle pad combo is okay, but the stirrups!

did they even do an ounce of research for this? All that weight on the stirrups, that would normally be distributed through the saddle tree, just gather on the horses withers! and that can cause some gnarly infections, if used often.

I know it's just a game, but there are people out there who actually think these kind of bareback pads are okay. If you make a horse game, at least do some proper research. it's not only here where they clearly didn't educate themself enough, most recently the dutch warmblood got in a lot of heat, 'because they chose to give them the overbreed, abusive kind of extended trot.

I know I am also an IRL dressage spectator by the fact that all the extra decoration around the arena annoy me. Like you can't properly see the horses in the arena because there are balloons and statues in the way. Even the music people wouldn't be able to see when to start the music

Something I see a lot in sse discourse is this black and white notion that, if you don’t agree with someone’s criticism of the game, you are obviously a white knight for the company and you defend their honor. Especially on Reddit, where there’s a lot of “finally not even the white knights can defend them” and “oh so now you agree that the company is bad, but not about these other issues” because… yeah. Not everyone is going to agree that what you call issues are issues, but they may have certain things they they themselves don’t like about the company.

Me thinking star coins are fairly priced, that there doesn’t need to be a boy model for the main character and that the shilling cap shouldn’t be raised isn’t because I feel this inescapable desire to protect a company. I just don’t give a fuck about those specific things. I raise my own issues with sse regularly. I hate their feminism, I think they need to do more to protect kids online, I wish they had dedicated writers, I despise how they treat their creatives. And maybe you don’t give a fuck about any of that. That doesn’t mean I’m going to assume, just because you won’t rally to my cause, that you think the company can do no wrong. We just care about different shit and that’s cool.

It’s nice when we all agree sse has done something shitty, like with the AI art, but that was an outlier and even that had people who didn’t see the big deal. It’s the same way with the “you people are never happy” crowd. Most people are happy about a lot of stuff, but because so many people are displeased about such a wide variety of things, it’ll look like everyone is unhappy about everything all of the time. You simply have to stop looking at people as a mass you can sort in how they measure against your standpoint and try to see them as individuals with individual thoughts too. The day people understand this will be the day I can happily depart from this mortal realm
