Two years ago I started on ideas for a full blown rewrite of Miraculous Ladybug. And it was the result of bad faith critiques against the show and just an overwhelming amount of salt I didn't realize I could filter. I lost my enjoyment but I did think of a lot of ideas for what could have happened in the show. It was kinda like "oh I haven't seen anyone else do it so I'll make a rewrite that makes everyone happy"

Completely ignorant that I was not original, it's been done before, etc.

Is it any surprise I burned out hard on that lmao. I barely posted stuff for this and yet here I am. Burnt out from my self imposed perfectionism and consistently going back and forth on if I think the show is bad enough to warrant a full rewrite. It wasn't ever going to last since my fuel was trying to create something that everyone would be happy with.. impossible.

I think after reading enough text posts from bugga chat I think the show can be viewed in a way that is better done than you'd expect. I enjoyed creating stuff Abt ml much more when I wasn't bogged down by salters

I've realized I like creators (bugga chat & Anne scribbles to name a couple) that enjoy the show a lot more than creators that don't. And I also don't think I can top Zoe's Scarlet Lady au in terms of fixing canon's issues and characterization. That's a full blown project I recommend checking out lol

And y'know, even if I wrote this out, I'd be catering for an audience I just don't agree with anymore. Like, Chloe redemption arc for instance, I don't think canon was perfect with how they handled Chloe but I also don't think that arc was destined to be a redemption and they did a 180.

I've begun to feel DEEPLY uncomfortable with some Chloe stans (not all) too since the show implies Chloe's bullying of Marinette was had racist intentions and now that I realize that I.. idk I just feel uncomfortable with some perceptions of Chloe. I still like the idea of a redemption arc for her but I don't really want to be the one to write it and make it work lmao

I still have a lot of ideas for this au/rewrite I think could be cool I also just don't want to rewrite everything in the show for them.

So. What next.

Omg that felt cool to say wowsers anyway

This isn't to say I'm abandoning anything JOTG related, don't fear if you follow the side blog. I just won't be writing anything like full seasons and this'll be just fanart and ramblings of ideas to accompany them. I'll leave it to everyone else to imagine a show that foreshadows and builds on any of those ideas.

No guarantees about how often I'll draw for those ideas (especially since my biggest hyperfixations at the moment are different fandoms) but it feels like significantly less pressure for me to put on myself haha. Look forward to the fanart cuz, again, I do think I have some BOMB ideas for how canon could be different

Lady Virulent! An akuma design for Marinette that I'm finally content with! I've gone through so many different versions for her but none of them really felt like an akuma design until now

I think i've gone through so many that I'll just make a video of all the different versions I went through until I got one to my liking. And even with this design, I think I'm going to change it from a skirt to a pair of FLOOFY mushroom pants since I think that'll work a bit better

i'm gonna do another drawing of her at some point where her pose will show off more of the design and i'll incorporate da pants then

Under the cut I'll have some reasons for why I picked certain elements

In the fic where I do a different take on ml (It's not super necessary for u to know the details on that wip I got going on for this) I'm having it so that she gets akumatized ltr on and her whole theme is poisoning, causing poison infecting others etc etc

so.. MUSHROOMS and toxic gas

She don't actually got hair it is just the gas that surrounds her head all fun like. The mushroom on her head is meant to look like a beret. There are mushrooms that go up her legs and neck since I thought it would be a neat design choice from seeing dying trees with mushrooms growing up the trunk.

She don't got no normal feet since I couldn't figure out how to make the Toxic Gas shoes look like mushrooms when her feet aren't. Pointed.

Her powers (so far since this is wip) allow her to force other people into living out the worst damage they've caused other people. Whatever their worst tormenting strategy was and what damage it did to the person. The power ignores if the person has apologized or made up with the person they hurt.

She can pull off the mushrooms that grow around her waist and through them at people like bombs that'll explode into more of the toxic gas that initiates her power.

Where's the akuma?

Her earrings :)

The spots in the design are meant to, obviously, make the outfit look like mushrooms, but also to call back to her ladybug (ladybelle in my thing) form! They also serve to give a sickness look to her skin, and I think it'd be neat if the spots never stuck to one place in her design, always moving around

This was a first try for trying to animate how they move that I'll likely redo at some point. This animation isn't exact to how I think her spots would move around but, I'll throw it at you to give an idea

Welp never got around to drawing digitally & posting this page of brain rot so-

This was started in late june of last year... but it is done now! There's that

I redrew Alya like, three times. So glad I settled with something I like

I think I might draw a few more sketches of pride stuff for these guys later, they won't be fully drawn digitally most likely but I probably will do something like I did here if I post those sketches

(also this is the first time I'm gonna try giving image description to my art, sry if it's bad)

(but also lmk if there are ways I can improve)

I wanted to keep a full timelapse for this but it got to the point where it wouldn't save if I didn't get rid of it due to the size it was causing :(

BUT i do have some of the timelapse, it's no more than a minute and I couldn't even get the longer timelapse due to its size again T-T

The reason I did the timelapse.... Caused the file to be too big... then I try to retrieve timelapse... and it doesn't let me...

make it make sense

Her hair is braided, initially two different braids that combine into one braid. On the arm that is raised in front of Marinette's mouth, there are two thin bracelets. One has some of the colors visible from a rainbow pride flag. The other has bisexual colors.

Alya is between the middle and left side of the image and she is holding hands with Nino with her left arm, her arm has a pansexual bracelet alongside a rainbow bracelet. She's excited and in the middle of running up to Marinette and Adrien who are in the shade, with Nino behind. She has her right hand stretched out to show her phone.

A box is above her with an arrow pointing to her small phone screen, showing what is on her small phone. In the box alya looks shocked in the bottom left corner, she is closer to the screen. Ladybug (Ladybelle in my au) and Chat Noir are smaller and at the top right of the box. They are farther away and LB holds a bisexual flag and CN is laying on a Trans flag with "PROTECT TRANS KIDS" written on it. Every character in this box is made up of different hues and shades of blue, mostly more muted.

Alya wears a light blue tulip sleeved shirt that slightly shows her belly, and is tied off at the bottom to the left. Her hair is partly braided (very curly) and a banana-yellow bandana separates her hair in the front from her hair in the back. Her curly hair is brown and dark red and light brightens some of it from the top. She has her hair in a ponytail in the back, her ponytail has a few braids as well, held together by a pink scrunchie. She has ripped dark blue jeans, the ripped parts are a lighter blue. She has square glasses and pan earrings that have the pansexual colors at the base, pink, yellow, and blue. But it's very muted and dark, not very easy to notice unless you squint.

Nino is holding Alya's hand with his right hand and he is blushing and smiling, I repeat he is blushing and smiling. He also has an eyebrow raised as he looks at Alya.

Above him is a talk box with vibrant and bright shades and hues of orange and yellow. In the box there are multiple hands with microphones, news reporters. LB and CN are running away. CN isn't in the screen much aside from his staff yoinking him into the air and his tail catching up behind him. By him there are large letters "BYEEE"

LB and CN run away from the news reporters but are also in a rush to get somewhere. I wonder why...

Nino has his red hat still on and he's more in the sun than his other friends. He is in a tank top/crop top. The top is partly black on the top and bottom, but in the middle it is the bisexual flag colors Pink Purple and Blue in that order. He's wearing black sweatpants with white strings. His glasses are circular and he wears a large red passenger bag that is over his shoulder going from right to left over his chest.

In the background they are by a storefront with a large glass window Adrien is slightly reflected in. Adrien and Marinette look tall in comparison due to being close to the camera, they aren't actually that tall. The teenagers are near a crosswalk and the sidewalk is visible. Blurred in the background, Alix is walking away, left to right, and she is holding her roller skates. On the same arm holding her roller skates, she has an aromantic bracelet on. She has gray pants on and a black shirt with large green dots. Her face isn't visible and her color's are very muted, almost blending into the background but she is listening into Marinette's friendgroup's chat. Sorry, she doesn't mean to. Her red hair is muted since she's in the background but she has been meaning to get her brown roots re-dyed. Kim is also in the background, blurred and muted but a little brighter than Alix since he's father away. He is mostly covered up by Alya in the image. He has a hoodie with no sleeves on, it's also a croptop but Alya makes that part not visible. Kim is also facing away and is slightly covered by Nino's yellow talk bubble. He hasn't noticed Marinette's friend group yet.

I'm gonna ramble under the cut about the designs n stuff but you can scroll past that to get to the timelapse if u want.

@jotg-miraculousrewriteau is where you'll see any updates about this story/au/rewrite I have going on if you get interested. It'll take some time before I get around to writing it but I'll be trying to draw more. I'll list some reasons for why I haven't gotten much out recently under the cut. Not abandoning the au tho!

This one was a STRUGGLE and part of it was because I still liked last year's and because my interest in ml has taken a back burner with other interests BARGING IN this year.

Not to say that I don't want to work on my rewrite anymore, but I'm probably gonna do some more rewatching so I can get fully back into it again. I can't really plop down what I've come up with for the rewrite and be satisfied anyway, so I'm stuck until I get the thing written and drawn.

THAT ASIDE, I changed up their posing again and included updates to the character design. I don't know if what I've drawn Marinette in here will stick for her redesign as far as outfits are concerned, but I don't really like the previous outfit I gave her anymore so I needed to work with something new.

Overall I like how this turned out, even if I'm a bit unsure abt other areas.

Specifics: Once again, I liked coloring and drawing Marinette more which shouldn't be a surprise since I have more to work with in her design. I made the foolish mistake of not including her freckles in the past, so now I'm amending for that. She's sort of matching her bf now.

I included some lore bits abt Tikki and Marinette's complicated relationship here that I haven't talked abt before. Marinette is not doing anything to Tikki intentionally, but I have a plot line in the story I have planned that involves how the kwamis went from deities to kwamis. Got caged in the miraculous. And the consequences that follow.

INcluding Marinette and Tikki gaining a strained relationship for the majority of the story.

But that's all I'll say on that for now.

You might notice Marinette's skintone has changed a bit from other redesigns. What happened was, when I was first coming up with ideas for the rewrite, I was going off of critisysms I saw a lot and noting them down. One, was that Mari didn't look like she was biracial and her skin tone should reflect that. Now. I was young and figured "Oh okay! So. Lets look up what average chinese skintones are!" ...I found the racist color swatches that got pretty close to yellow and I ignorantly changed her skin tone to that.

So! Now her skin tone is closer to canon's and I've decided anything about her heritage isn't something I'll tackle in my rewrite/au since I'm not qualified. I still have some things I've changed so she looks similar to both parents, but no more of that skin tone.

Lol I didn't get the timelapse started until the basic sketches were completed

Tho at the moment I'll be catching up on canon to reignite some motivation to finish this. Maybe even rewatch the series completely and take lots of notes.

I could just put all that I'd change from canon in one big post or a series of long posts but for me I'd feel dissatisfied with that so

It'll be finished eventually but it'll take a bit ough... The main reason it's taken so long is bc of my perfectionism with it honestly

Plus I'm juggling lots of creative projects so ml really needs to swoop in and get my brain's full attention so I can get this done and I can MOVE ON lol

LORE POST #1

Redesign of my Chat Noir redesign to go together with my rewrite which I will talk a lot about under the cut. I'm pretty set on this design too and will link it at the beginning of the fic when I get ten chapters completed and ready to post :3

What is different from canon, why I am changing some things, etc. Feel free to just read my thoughts around the design if you want to read my fic without any guidelines of what I'm planning so far for him

BUT I won't spoil anything major dw

The design:

I've changed chat noir's design so it would blend in more at night. The preferred the sleek black tones over the glow in the dark green I gave him before. I take a whole lot of inspiration from the PV of miraculous ladybug in these designs so of course his hair is still floofy.

When initially designing Chat noir, the tips of his hair are darker since I really liked that trait some other redesigns gave him so I included it without making his whole head of hair black.

I got the idea to base his design off of rust and RAN with it! He still has some greens in his design but they've shifted closer to yellow green and gold for the color scheme!

I've liked the idea about the clothes in the hero designs looking more cloth like too so I've incorporated that into the design with pockets and a zipper cause I can. Since Adrien has been thinking about being a superhero for a while, his design is more thought out were it could be.

EDIT: Forgot to mention!! Lafybelle has a lil more black in her design and now chat has a little more red! :3 matching

I saw some concept art of Chat Noir with a hat at one point and I loved it so much I wanted to keep it in to a certain extent, SO Marichat moment all the way. I decided to add the bells back into his design (I missed them) and took inspiration from @/callimara's Chat Noir design.

Chat noir will still be very cat like in this and I thought it'd be funky if his feat were like a cat's

Overall it isn't much of a design change for some aspects but I really like how it turned out!

K story stuff now:

I want to get ten chapters done before I post chapters again on the first fic since I don't think I did the best job introducing what I've changed. This isn't talking about adrien agreste's life this is more his role as Chat Noir. I'll get to adrien when I get his redesign sheet finished

(any part of this section might be edited in the future but this is basically part of my ideas)

Honestly a whole lot of the fic(s) is(are)

I've been developing for two years now and I just gotta write it out... Entirely hinging on my execution sigh

Chat noir's powers are now on a more equal footing with Ladybug's (Ladybelle now) and I'll get more indepth when I post Ladybug's redesign and stuff but basically

The miracle box is a mix mash of several miraculous's from other boxes due to an event Guardian Marianne caused. Supposedly, she unleashed the Rabbit kwami of time on the guardians in an act of defiance. Resulting in rips in time eating away the members present for such an event, burning to death in fire. Marianne managed to run away with the miraculous's she could obtain and do her best to live her life knowing what she's done.

The Ladybug and Cat miraculous are a duo pair. Strongest when used in a partnership. Many are tempted to use both at the same time for what the powers merge to become but this isn't the strongest path.

Tikki and Plagg are soulmates you could say. They aren't really romantic but they are bonded for life. Never one without the other.

They are the only miraculous pairing in the new mixmash of the guardian box. Eventually Marianne gives the responsibility to Master Fu, her lover, before the rabbit comes after her as well.

I'll talk more about the changes I've made to Tikki's character in Ladybelle's post but as a part of the Miraculous cure, something all pairing miraculous's have to purify evils and darkness, it requires both parties to be present. Usually some form of touch or communication initiates the Miraculous cure

"Pound it!"

Chat noir can use his power alone to defeat evils but it's like cauterizing a wound. He doesn't figure this out for a bit.

I'll talk more about the miraculous cure in Ladybelle's post

This is still a part of the story I'm working on but:

the miraculous of destruction gets more powerful the longer the user wields it. With techniques and familiarity, Chat noir will be able to make black pockets of nothing just from a touch. Yes I'm including this from the concept art. Though he'll only get this later down the road

Chat noir is still a form of escapism to Adrien and part of his character arc is realizing he can't rely on it like that. A large part of adrien's character I'll talk about in adrien's post ties into Chat Noir too

I'm still figuring out some plot points for him so this is where I'll end this off. But I will say I'm planning on Chat Noir getting more time with the kwamis and more of a role in the Guardian arc and guardian stuff in general

Doodle dump because I got in the mood for it hehehe

hair is so fun to draw

And spoilers for my fic

Tho most of them are for like- season 4-5 but built up over time

Working on the first chapter again btw! I posted the first chapter before but I think I got TOO exposition dump heavy in the beginning and it's not very interesting to anyone not in my head I think

(thats the only reason I can think of for why 20 people have looked at it and no kudos or response if it was good or shitty)

But a lot of that chapter will come back later it's just not going to be the first chapter anymore

BUT ANYWAY

I also have "caught up" on current stuff with miraculous ladybug and I find it ASTOUNDING how many things I have in common with cannon in this au

Except... y'know I planned them from the beginning and I'm planning on actually integrating them well into the story

No Gabriel isn't getting a redemption here. I'm not redeeming an abuser and terrorist.
