You should not have to be pretty.
Your worth should not be tied to how attractive you are deemed by society.
Your goodness as a person should not be measured by how well you fit into societal beauty standards
Your trustworthiness should not be tied to how hot you look to the person judging you.
Many times, the systemic issues in place means that you will be deemed as less than for failing to meet these standards. These standards say nothing about you as a person, bc they are useless standards measuring random genetics.
Beauty standards are wrong.

You’d never believe that this series has only 1 sex fire out of 5 on the romance.io spice-ometer.
I wonder if part of the reason Girl Genius attracts so many of us asexuals is because although a lot of characters think about and sometimes (implicitly) have sex, it’s never mysticised. It’s not the thing that makes us human or the true joining of two souls, it’s a thing that a lot of people do, in a lot of ways, for a lot of reasons, and often have a very good time doing.

New Age mythology is chock full of repackaged right wing conspiracy theories, the same kind pushed by QAnon.
It's also full of repackaged racist pseudoscience about genetic superiority/inferiority and the function of evolution.
Ascension to 5D was supposed to have happened back in 2012, and the prediction failed.
New Agers are recycling their predictions over and over to catch new waves of people who don't know the movement's history.
Belief in Atlantis is strongly motivated by white supremacy.

here's something stupid: the catcatfish
some quick facts:
they're nocturnal and tend to roam around while awake.
they have keen senses of smell and hearing, but terrible eyesight. despite this, they also have a tapetum lucidum, making their pupils "glow" in the dark.
their fur is short, dense, and oily to waterproof them.
they prefer a diet of mostly meat and are attracted to strong-smelling food like fish, cheese, and anything fermented.
the elongated dewclaw on each front paw is sharp, flexible, and nonretractable. it injects a venom that causes respiratory failure and cardiac arrest in prey and, in extreme doses, humans. veterenarians typically remove the dewclaw venom glands during the neuter/spay procedure.
they grow to an average of 1m and 23kg (3ft and 50lb) but can reach up to double that length and triple the weight!

In case you feel like giving up now…
Girl Genius is a grand webcomic, but reading it sometimes feels like watching someone juggle, and they never put down a ball, they just keep adding more balls, until there are so many balls in the air you’re sure they’ve all got to come crashing down at the end, and when you think they have to start removing some balls, they just add more, and eventually you’re begging on your knees, “Please! Resolve one of these plotlines! For the love of God!”
And the Foglios just smile and set all of the balls on fire

If you look at the sketches, people have been proposing a cartoon adaptation since about the mid-2000s (hence the headshots). Apparently, the company who were going to produce the cartoon were bought out by a company who didn’t want to, and the Foglios were released from their contract. Which just makes me wonder- if it had survived, would the comic still be free to read? And what cuts would have to be made in order to air the cartoon in an afterschool timeslot (as I assume that this hypothetical adaptation would be targeted towards 8-10 year old girls)?

I drink black tea with milk and no sugar. My favourite brand and flavour is 'whatever is on special at the supermarket' and steep time is 'however long it is before I remember to take the tea bag out'. Biscuits optional.

Why Girl Genius, for me (3/?)
Because this page:
I read a lot of YA fantasy. ...a lot, a lot.
"oh no which boy will I choose" and "oh no I like the wrong boy" are MAJOR tropes (and timewasters) for far too many YA novels with (straight) female protagonists.
Kids and kittens, be told: it is boring.
Having a main character skip the whole trope because everything is on fire and she's busy and doesn't have time for this nonsense, declare as much, and then continue getting work done... I have been waiting YEARS, probably DECADES, to see that. Such perfect delight has few equals.
I think my comment to myself at this point was simply, "FINALLY."
(I also appreciate that this promise to Violetta was eventually kept. Good continuity, excellent work.)
