reasons you should watch nikita
this show has ended three years ago but i still feel like people are not even aware that it exists, and probably only because of the way it was promoted. here’s some reasons why you all should watch it
the writing: every detail and every move of the writers is smart and deeply thought. as a person who tends to focus more on the characters and their development and not really care about the plot itself, it just takes over you. so hard. the writing never lets down. when they finally got a short fourth season, after almost having the show being cancelled, they jumped right in and delivered six episodes that (at least for me) felt like a film each. the show did end after that short last season, but it didn’t mean that the ending was not satisfying, but actually quite the opposite. the writers managed to give the show a proper, brilliant, beautiful and satisfying ending.
female representation: the main character of the show is a female who is also a poc, that is not only physically strong and capable, not only a badass who kicks ass on daily basis, but also emotionally strong, isn’t afraid to show her emotions, makes mistakes and tries to save everyone at all cost, while having to deal with pain and anger and guilt and the need to revenge, and she is forced to deal with all of this inside her, all the awful things she had to do, and she somehow still manages to be a good hearted person, to save everyone she possibly can even if they don’t deserve it. she’s imperfect, and she isn’t afraid to admit that she’s imperfect, and she is still so very easy to love. her some sort of a sidekick saw her parents murdered before her eyes at a ridiculously young age, was sold into slavery and became a drug addict, but she’s not less of a badass herself, she survived a really traumatic experience while completely recovering and using her experience to help others. she never tried to hide her emotions, her needs, her desire for help and love and care. she always fought back, she never changed who she is for anybody, not for a men, not for the world. one of the two main villains of the show is also a female, who is portrayed as a brilliant, intelligent, manipulative, fierce women with a very tragic past who will do whatever it takes for her to achieve her desires. she is written in such a brilliant way (with the addition of melinda clarke’s amazing acting) that she manages to make people love to hate her (but also feel compassion towards her at times, or at least for me personally lol).
there’s another amazing poc who is devoted, intelligent, brave and very fierce but also very gentle and kind at the same time. all the women on this show are complex and well written. they take the place that the men usually take, and they do it without bringing the value of the men down. all of these women, even the side ones, were written with a lot of thought as fragile, merciful, kind characters while still leaving the impression of strong, brave, fearless women.
the fight sequences
: all of the fight scenes are convincing, well performed and very well choreographed (for me, some of the best choreographed fight scenes on tv). a large part of the stunts is done by the actors themselves, who put massive work in training, which honestly makes the whole difference. for me it always felt like the show was actually trying to make you appreciate every fight scene by making them so goddamn amazing.
the characters: the characters on the show are both unique but also so very relatable and familiar. each one of them struggles with his own past, actions, fears and guilt. we got to see the background of almost every main character, where they came from and what they had been through which helped me personally connect and care about these characters deeply. what i really find special about the characters on this show is that as much as they can be kind or brilliant or compassionate or emotionally strong or brave as hell, each and every one of them is portrayed as a HUMAN. they are all incredibly flawed characters that have weaknesses, that make mistakes, that let themselves express their emotions, that cry, complain, that are scarred. they are portrayed as almost… heroes, while still being allowed to show weaknesses, to feel scared and broken. they are all relatable on one level or another, and they are all so incredibly easy to love and care about. when it comes to basically every core character, the character development is massive and beautiful.
the relationships: every single dynamic on the show has its own characterization that makes that specific dynamic very special. whether it’s a romantic dynamic, enemies relation, friendship or family/group dynamic. most of the relationships on the show takes over your heart and breaks you to pieces simply because they are so damn well written. they’re all very unique, interesting, well developed and convincing. especially when it comes to the female dynamics. all of them are as beautiful as romantic relationships (if not more!) nikita and alex’s relationship, as described by the executive producer, is ‘the heart of the show’. every single women relationship or dynamic on the show is extremely well and deeply written.
im forgetting a lot of things i love about this show right now… i don’t know to explain all of this in any other way so just trust me and go watch this show and then come and cry in my inbox

whatever happened to liking villains for being villains why do fans of villains have to constantly defend their behavior and excuse it why can’t people ever go “you know what he fucked up here and is evil and has done evil shit but you know what it makes for an interesting character” stop trying to make these villains be good if canonically they’re not shown to actually be good people let villains be villains
