ooops is a single off 808 state’s 1991 album ‘ex:el’. goddess of goddesses björk lends vocals to the track, but my most favorite remix is the mellow birds which borrows its name from a uk brand of instant coffee if im not mistaken.

this 2001 track is off jon b.’s 3rd album ‘pleasures you like’, in my opinion his most sophisticated release. nas lends a slick verse to the track. pleasures you like was released under tracey edmonds’ (wife of babyface) brand new label and they sorta bungled the promo, the album only went gold. i saw jon b. in concert about a month ago and the man has still got it! he was incredibly humble and expressed how he is still doing his dream job, loves god & his family, and has a new album on the way. an artist like this is hard to find.

got til its gone~~ janet jackson ft. q-tip & joni mitchell

incredibly chilled out track off janet’s 1997 album ‘the velvet rope.’ j dilla produced the track but was not credited due to industry bullshit which prompted his ‘revenge remix’ a noteworthy track of its own. leave it to the god jay-dee to rework a joni mitchell line into something perhaps more beautiful than the original.

this was my favorite song in 11th grade when i was 16, mad horny, and anti- as hell. fs green of the netherlands produces for rapper bangbang. c.2007-2008

1988 banger that was one of the first mainline house tracks to get widespread real play. i prefer the ‘fake mix’ bside version to the original.

far cry~~ marvin gaye

reference my previous post for how thoroughly its been sampled. far cry is off the 1981 album ‘in our lifetime’ one of marvin’s best, in my opinion. catch the immense breakdown a few seconds after the 2 minute mark. worth a listen, open your ears and absorb genius.

this is peak yo gotti before he took the route of an aging juicy j and started making overproduced mixtapes. this song is a party banger from c. 2006 im unsure the exact year of release or album. i share this song as a means to lead into my next post, and the sample used in this beat...

MARYYYY. mjb’s side chick anthem is a single from her ‘97 album share my life and an early production by rodney jerkins. the real gem here is the queen bee, of course, who slays her verse in the nasty vernacular that kim invented, perfected, and (ahem, nicki whateva) made her royalty. video is slick style inspiration, get some. note: producer knxwledge sampled this song for iknluhvubettr which takes marys lyrics from salty to sultry, worth a listen.

r. kelly has some of the illest production credits in the industry and this rework of janets classic is signature kellz in all facets.
