What she's thinking: At no point in their final conversations do any of the past Avatars tell Aang he has to kill Ozai. His living friends do, but the Avatars tell him to be decisive (Roku), that only justice will bring peace (Kyoshi), to take an active role in shaping the world (Koruk), and that he'll never be able to detach himself as an Airbender because he's the Avatar first and foremost (Yangchen). They don't give him what he wants (instructions), but they tell him everything he needs to hear in order to be able to do what the lionturtle eventually suggests. The idea that this ending is somehow cheating because Aang doesn't have to "sacrifice his soul" or anything is extremely bad for a variety of reasons. In this essay, I
