Yeah, it started cute with Tony Soprano, too. We all know how that ended, don't we?

The most terrifying part of having memory issues is when you can feel something from 5 seconds ago be thrown out the window and there's an empty hole where it once was. You remember that you forgot something.

Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1
The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.
So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.
So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.
Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.
And the probe is working again.
From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

people telling you they reread your fic is the biggest compliment you could ever receive. there are thousands of stories out there begging to be found, to be explored, but your story meant so much to someone that they came back to it eagerly, they went over every word again. to love is to return and loving a fic is rereading it. thank you to all readers and rereaders <3333

I got the full series DVD set for The Sopranos earlier today.
This is the first DVD purchase I've been "iffy" on for a while, since I actually purchased the series already as individual seasons in the '00s. I bought them as birthday gifts for my father since he was a big fan of the show as it was airing, and I'm always opposed to purchasing the same thing again. Even 20 years later.
If I was to ask him for them, he'd probably give them to me without condition since he's a big fan of streaming systems and he loves that they're accessible through whatever streaming service HBO has now (Is it still "Max"?). He probably hasn't actually watched any of the discs in years. But as much as I dislike double-buying, it's even more gauche to ask for a gift back. Even 20 years later.
So, here we go. The collection had a pretty good price, all things considered, averaging out to less than $10 per season. It comes with the same bonus content that the original season releases had, and if I may have wished for something new at least it didn't cut out the old stuff (It's still disappointing that the Babylon 5 Blu-ray set didn't have ANY special features). I suppose for completion's sake I should also look into getting The Many Saints of Newark, but that movie was such a letdown that I honestly don't even care.
Y'know, with this added to my collection, I just may be able to say that I now have The Best Show for every genre out there.
