thinking about how wally welcome home is the most autistic a character has ever felt to me in a way near-undescribable
i dont think ive ever seen anything portray how horrifying and isolating it is to be autistic sometimes, especially surrounded by people who are "normal" or at least well adjusted. like the videos of him near motionless and waiting to be included.
and i get thats obviously not going on at least in a literal sense, but that feeling of having to wait for people to engage with you? people laughing at your genuine confusion? the just,, complete alienation and isolation of the self despite being surrounded by others? its. very,, i guess uncannily familiar
and then the observation thing? like staring and watching. i mimiced others for a long time to be more normal, and i only ended up reflecting things inauthetically. i can see a metaphor for that especially with wally being an artist--copying what he sees--needing someone to tell him what to paint. i dunno its just all so familiar and feels like what its like, especially as someone whose been undiagnosed for most of their life.
