annabeth, the girl who holds the dagger that's both luke's promise and his demise, seeing the fates cut the string that also belonged to luke.. at the beginning of the episode where she comes to the conclusion that she would choose percy's way over that which she's been brought up in, that she would choose percy..

I just realized "just breathe" has the exact sentiment of Percy actually making the choice to plunge into the river, it's Percy making the choice to take the first leap of faith towards his father.

The difference is that "just breathe" now connect Poseidon and Sally together and also tie with the theme of parents' unconditional and conditional love with Poseidon helping them with no string attached being contrasted with Athena's willingness to just let her daughter die.

i know “she met a pinecone’s fate” gagged everyone but also i don’t think it was meant as a dig towards thalia but more so towards zeus and the gods in general - like this was not “hero’s fate” and they shouldn’t be thinking of it as zeus saving thalia cause if that’s all the most powerful god can do for his own child then the gods highkey suck

This version of Annabeth really highlights why her relationship with Sally is so important to her later on in the books.

THAT SCENE with percy and annabeth was so good and so in character! let's break it down...

1. percy sacrificing himself immediately ... bestie your fatal flaw is showing

2. SEAWEED BRAIN

3. percy immediately accepting his death? that's so him... how many times has he done that in these book?

4. "You're better at this than me! You just are." YEP one thing about percy is he is going to have a low opinion of himself and he is going to think the most of annabeth. the way he talks her into this is so him, the way walker delivers every line just shows how much he understands percy's inner life.

5. "I'm not leaving the underworld without your mom" "thank you. I was gonna say, when the quest is done, could you maybe swing back here and get me out of this thing?" that is just SO THEM. the way annabeth promises to follow through on his goal for the quest, and the way it takes him aback a little but he accepts it. then his little attempt at a light hearted joke... that's the percy I know and love.

6. HIM REASSURING HER AS THE THING CLOSES AROUND HIM. i will be thinking about this for days. that is The Most percy thing we have seen so far imo.

7. annabeth refusing to leave without him, thinking she can outsmart a trap set by the god of craftsmanship ... bestie now your fatal flaw is showing

8. annabeth talking their way out of it. even if it wasn't purposeful, one thing abt my girl is she is always chatting her way out of sticky situations and as always she delivered

the entire episode was flawless but that scene will be on my mind until next week and beyond.

but really percy and annabeth doing a little flip flop for a minute this episode was SO GOOD im so excited to see where this goes the rest of the season !!

I feel like as the show goes on, Percy is going to realize the gods are more nuanced and complex that he originally thought. like yes, obviously they still suck, but I think if Percy keeps the same kind of hatred for them he has now, it's going to be hard to see Luke as the villain. I'm hoping as we meet more gods (ares not included) we will see them occasionally do good, or at least passable, things. So I'm guessing he'll move to some kind of middle ground between his current perspective on the gods and annabeth's.

oh but it is GOOD watching percy and annabeth fall in love in real time. to see the looks on their faces as they slowly discover that they would, actually, go to the ends of the earth to protect each other. "if i have to stick with someone," percy says, and then can't bring himself to say i'd choose you, because mere days ago he expected annabeth to stab him in the back at the first opportunity, and now he trusts her more than he trusts his own father, a literal god. "i thought we don't ask for help," percy says, but of course annabeth will swallow her pride (HER FATAL FLAW!!) and ask for help if it means saving percy. annabeth has wanted a quest since she arrived at camp half-blood, and yet she tries to sacrifice herself so the quest can continue without her. percy doesn't give two shits about the gods, and yet he chooses to sacrifice himself, not for the gods, but for his friends - so annabeth doesn't have to. they have been tentative allies for like three days and already they've both decided that nothing is more important than each other. just. man oh man
