I never really cared a whole lot about the elves in LOTR because they all seemed kind of distant and ~wise~
But in the Silmarillion they discover what murder is and proceed to just do that a whole lot and then they try to murder Satan and let me tell you, that’s a page turner

A theory I have been thinking about a lot these days:
According to the Ainulindalë, everything that happens during the First Age as far as the Elves are concerned is in the Song and is meant to happen. Elves don't have free will the same way Humans do, and this is part of the reason why they cannot defeat Morgoth, not only because the difference in power, but also because it's not in the Song. Besides, the Doom of Mandos also states that the Noldor specifically will never be able to achieve anything but defeat in Beleriand.
Humans, on the other hand, have free will and can break away from the Song, due to their mortal nature. They are Eru's Children too, and can be argued that they are closer to their creator as their actions can have an effect greater than that of the Valar, not in power, but in the way it can change the Song.
So my theory is that Eru keeps throwing Humans at the Elves to try and tell them that Humans are the key to defeat Morgoth, that if they want to change anything they need to team up. Further proven by several examples:
-Beren and Lúthien: not sure this needs elaboration tbh! But they achieved something together that the Sons of Fëanor could not.
-Eärendil: again, no explanation needed, but definitely some Human blood was needed to bypass the Ban. It is said that Eärendil felt closer to his Human ancestry too.
-Túrin: oh the things he could have achieved had he not been cursed by Morgoth. He still did achieve quite a lot and even though I'm harsh with him sometimes, his heart was always in the right place. Capable of killing a dragon when the hardiest of the Noldor could not.
-Húrin: withstanding torture and the curse by Morgoth, because apparently Humans aren't that easily corrupted by Morgoth. Maeglin take notes.
I'm sure I'm forgetting more examples but yeah, my theory is that Eru kept throwing Humans at the Elves until it stuck. This is the "higher purpose of doom" of which Finrod speaks, saving Beleriand.

Maedhros: Yeah? So could another elf. So could a dog. So could a dedicated duck.

7) Favourite battle.
(x)
I’ll leave here the song “Noldor” by Blind Guardian. Just listen it, it’s a wonderful song.
Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
The Nirnaeth Arnoediad, also known as the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, was the fifth battle in the Wars of Beleriand fought between the forces of Morgoth and the Union of Maedhros. Its name was taken from the first words of the Doom of Mandos: "Tears unnumbered ye shall shed and the Valar will fence Valinor against you, and shut you out, so that not even the echo of your lamentation shall pass over the mountains. On the House of Fëanor the wrath of the Valar lieth from the West unto the uttermost East, and upon all that will follow them it shall be laid also. Their Oath shall drive them, and yet betray them, and ever snatch away the very treasures that they have sworn to pursue. To evil end shall all things turn that they begin well; and by treason of kin unto kin, and the fear of treason, shall this come to pass. The Dispossessed shall they be for ever. Ye have spilled the blood of your kindred unrighteously and have stained the land of Aman. For blood ye shall render blood, and beyond Aman ye shall dwell in Death's shadow. For though Eru appointed to you to die not in Eä, and no sickness may assail you, yet slain ye may be, and slain ye shall be: by weapon and by torment and by grief; and your houseless spirits shall come then to Mandos. There long shall ye abide and yearn for your bodies, and find little pity though all whom ye have slain should entreat for you. And those that endure in Middle-earth and come not to Mandos shall grow weary of the world as with a great burden, and shall wane, and become as shadows of regret before the younger race that cometh after. The Valar have spoken. "
Maedhros after hearing the deeds of Beren and Lúthien perceived Morgoth was not unassailable and planned to take the offence against Angband before Morgoth would destroy them all one by one. Thus he set out plans to reunite the foes of Morgoth under a new league, the Union of Maedhros.
Under this Union of Maedhros all the Elves of Beleriand, as well as the Edain, Dwarves, and the newly arrived Easterlings were invited to combine in arms and fight Morgoth. The smithies of Nogrod and Belegost were busy preparing weapons and the Easterlings following Bór and Ulfang were trained for war. In west Beleriand the Noldor in Hithlum prepared as well as the Men of the house of Hador and people of Haleth. The Elves of Falas also came. Tidings of the Union also came to Turgon.

5) Favourite character
(x)
Finrod Felagund.
Finrod was one of the noblest elves of the House of Finarfin and a friend of Men. His nobility and death saving Beren and his opposition to the Oath of Fëanor allowed for his return to life in Valinor, making him the first Elf to be reincarnated in the Undying Lands before the end of the First Age.

4) Favourite man
Húrin.
Húrin was born in F.A. 441 in Hithlum. His father was Galdor and his father Hador Lórindol, founder of the House of Hador. His mother was Hareth of Brethil who was the daughter of Halmir the lord of the Haladin. In his youth, him and his younger brother Huor were raised in the forest of Brethil by Haldir their uncle. In 456, the brothers joined a company of scouts but were separated from them after an Orc ambush. They were pursued to the ford of Brithiach and were saved by the Vala Ulmo who caused a mist to rise and the two escaped into Dimbar. From there, Eagles flew them to the hidden city Gondolin. King Turgon welcomed the brothers, remembering their grandfather Hador who was an Elf-friend as well as the words of Ulmo who told him to deal kindly to the House of Hador. Húrin remained with Turgon for a time until he and his brother wished to return to their people. Turgon was reluctant to let the brothers leave but the king granted their wish and the brothers swore oaths of secrecy. They returned to Dor-lómin sometime before

3) Favourite Maia.
Eönwë.
(x)
Eönwë  was a Maia serving Manwë as his herald and banner-bearer, and Chief of the Maiar along with Ilmarë.
Eönwë was referred to as the "greatest of arms in Arda," meaning that he was the best with weapons, but as one of the Maiar he was not necessarily the most powerful in might. When Eärendil reached the shores of Aman to make his appeal, it was Eönwë who first greeted him outside of Tirion praising his arrival and accomplishments. When Manwë decided to heed the appeal, Eönwë was sent to Middle-earth to fight the War of Wrath, leading the Host of the Valar.
