It wasn't the OP who said that gender was stored in the penis, it was the old man. OP probably expected the man to answer the first answer with a yes, leading to a "so see, gender is not connected to genitals, ergo you're not tied to male/female." Since the old man thinks that gender is in the penis, the old man would personally feel genderless without one. That's not THE nonbinary experience, but it's clearly that one old man's nonbinary experience.
the catholic old white guy asked me to explain lgbtq+ to him and it was honestly kind of funny

Our straight cis friend has watched episode 21 of The Untamed
I skipped a bunch, but just ‘cause there was no news. He keeps enjoying, he makes no note of Wangxian, we keep on keeping on
And then today he watches episode 21
And he remarks
That
It’s a bit weird, considering they’re siblings, but Jiang Yanli must be Wei Wuxian’s love interest, they even have a song
………………………………….MOTHERFUCKER, WEI WUXIAN AND LAN WANGJI HAD AN ENTIRE MONTAGE–

My cousin, at the end of episode 17 where Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing are arguing about the Golden Core switch but aren’t outright saying it’s that
“Oh wow, so they’re going to switch Golden Cores?”

My straight cis male cousin doesn’t really emote much, so he’s spent most of the time watching the screen with a stony face, apart for that time in episode 13 when Wen Chao threw Wei Wuxian into the cave and he audibly gasped.
Anyway, we got at the end of that episode, just after Lan Wangji felt the indignity of being assumed straight, my cousin turned to us and said “it’s been a couple of episodes now that I’ve got the impression they’re a little more than friends, but I’m not sure if it’s real or if I’m assuming things because I’m not used to Chinese shows”
The great experiment of 2021 thus concludes with a resounding success

So the great experiment of 2020 (AKA do straight cis men notice the gay? Let’s find out by forcing our only straight cis male friend to watch it) ended in a most amusing way. That will be retold by my spouse @communicationtechnician whenever she finally feels like it’s perfect enough.
However, good news!! We’re now making my cis straight male cousin watch it!!! #thegreatexperimentof2021

So about SHL’s ending
Alright I’m weirded out
I thought people were disappointed because the final episodes were rushed, giving the show a not-really-emotionally-satisfying ending, which is true- it absolutely felt like it needed another ten episodes to explore what happened and actually land on their feet
But actually I keep finding people disappointed because “they’re trapped on a mountain forever”, and i’m like… they… can leave, actually? They just need to wait until the snow melts? They’re not going to die the moment they leave, they’ll just go back to aging. This is, at most, the most boring couple of months spent at a resort.

So I found some meme templates and decided to fill them with SHL characters

Big concentration of “Pulls into the drive through to order one single black coffee” energy in this show

BTW I would just quickly say that while I definitely think SHL’s ending is a happy one, I don’t necessarily think it’s well constructed. The last six episodes were really rushed and the angst they contained could have (and should have) been explored in depth rather than just... kinda ignored tbh. It’s doubtlessly just because they had 36 episodes and not 50, but still.

Some people on twitter are trying to tell me that LWJ in the show is a terrible person, much worse than in the book, and 1) no, 2) lol no, 3) one of the examples they’re using is “he didn’t tell WWX about A-Yuan” and like, bruh, he didn’t in the book either wtf are you talking about

In regards to the ending of Word of Honor
I would also like to remind you that, if you’re really bothered by them being immortals up a mountain, you can just... assume they’ll leave once the snow melts.
Like, no one’s forcing them to stay there, folks. When spring comes, they can leave and eat all the noodles they want. It’s not like they’d shrivel up and die the moment food touches their tongue, they’d just start aging as normal.

also I would like to note that if the food thing is such a big deal, they aren’t actually trapped there?
Like, guys, once the snow melts, they can go outside. They just have to wait until spring comes and then they can go “hey, you know what, this immortality thing as long as we stay away from the world? Not a big fan actually. Let’s go get cakes.” and they can walk to the nearest city and eat cake
It’s not like they’re gonna die the moment they eat something, y’know. Ye Baiyi is still hanging around. They’ll just go back to aging normally.
Spoilers about the ending of Word of Honor! Don’t look if you haven’t finished it!
So I see that some people don’t think the show has a happy ending, and I, to put it as politely as possible… don’t get it?
Like, we could stay here and talk about the concept of 出世 and it’s long long tradition and the themes and blablabla, but that’s implying that the only way to get the ending is to Have A Great Knowledge - you must have a degree in Chinese literature and history, and/or you must be Chinese – and the truth is, none of that is necessary. Sure, that will bring you great joy, but to get it all you need is to have watched the show.
The show has been nothing but Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing going “fuck I hate having to deal with All Of This, I can’t wait to retire with you somewhere”. In the end, they get to Stop Dealing WIth All of This and Retire Somewhere.
They did it. They won. It’s a happy ending.
Edit:
Somebody noted that they can’t eat food anymore. That’s true! I had forgotten that! What’s the point of life if you can’t eat xiaolongbao?!?!
Hey, Wen Kexing, Zhou Zishu, how do you feel about your ghoulish half-life?

Spoilers for episode 35 of Word of Honor!!!
A minor thing that I adore
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love that these two are upset that Qianqiao died??
Look at their faces when they hear that! They’re just like “oh damn”! Like, yeah, they recover quickly and never mention it again, but that’s a big thing from them!
I also find it hilarious how they both go “wtf bro uncool” about Window of Heaven wanting to take over the cultivation world now that most sect leaders are dead, like sweet sentiment but one hell of a glass house guys

So, still spoilers about Word of Honor
but can we talk about how Wen Kexing made a fake key?!
This legend, this absolute mad lad, he just. lied. Xie’er came over like “yo we can make a deal but you gotta give me the key” and everybody else would have been like ‘I am bound by honour to give the real thing’ but not Wen Kexing, you fucks!! Oh no, Wen Kexing makes a fake copy and is just like “yep, here it is, here’s the key, this is the real deal, no lies here siree” and Xie’er suspects NOTHING because you think somebody would do that?? Just go up to someone else’s face, in a wuxia show, and lie, like that??????
And the last thing, the thing that makes me go feral is- remember how the leader of the Gentle Wind Sect asked for the key, and Wen Kexing was like ‘yes don’t worry I’m getting it!!!’ and went to check his robe?
This absolute legend had another copy!!!!! Oh mY GOD, you KING!!!!!!!

Oh, by the way! Most of the people I’ve seen were fans of both The Untamed and Word of Honor, and I love that for us!
But I’d like to say to those who are already starting to compare the two and go with “actually, X is better because it’s Y and it has more K!”
shut the fuck up
You are dumb. You’re a dum-dum. Both of those are good. All the actors are good. The stories are good. You don’t have to tear one down to build the other one up. There is no fight between the two other than what you are making up right now.
If you find one grating, be a fucking adult, get xkit, and block the tag of that show. If the fandom is insufferable, then stop interacting with the fandom.

Last thing about episode 33, for now at least
I was so into the conference (I swear to god my soul left my body at a certain point) that I completely forgot the beginning
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What was up with Qianqiao’s shit test? That made absolutely no sense. Like I get honour and all, but hell of a false dichotomy there, I would have also gone “wait a fucking second babe, can we sit down and see if there’s a way we can be together AND not die in a month before making a choice”
