I really hope they have more story for the chalk prince and the dragon event like seriously if they end in on us strengthening the sword that's such a waste. I’ve liked the rest of the event and I especially love the interactions with Albedo its only this that has me worried

I finally have the time and patience to talk about the last couple episodes of Critical Role.
SPOILER ALERT- I’m bringing up stuff from ep 118 to 120 you’ve been warned
every so often critical role has an episode come up that I don’t like watching, ep 118 was like that for me all the ruin stuff and them getting ahead of the tombtakers made me anxious and then the stuff happening on twitter the next day didn’t help with my mood. thankfully 119 and 120 were pretty fun.
ok now down to business I’m gonna split the things standing out to me into three different categories starting with wtf is with that floating city-
The city in the astral sea terrifies me like when we first heard about it in Cad’s divine intervention vision but Jester’s vision made me feel like it’s an actual threat to exandria. I really want to know what happened in Aore (I still don’t know how to spell it) like the drama must have been amazing.
Ever since it was revealed that Molly/Lucien was up and walking I have been of the opinion that hes not evil mainly because nothing we were seeing pointed at him being evil. I still don’t think Lucien is evil, like the city is completely evil but we still don’t know how much the tombtakers know about what they’re trying to release. I personally think they don’t, I think they know about the minds being a hive basically but the full extent of this thing consuming everything around it welll I think they wouldn’t want that. from everything they have said it seems like they expect to still have a world after their mission.
I worry about the pull this city seems to have on people like maybe it’s just the usual thing of people getting a hard on for forbidden knowledge but if it’s not then shit I can think of some wizards that shouldn’t be anywhere near this thing.
ok now for category 2 Molly and Lucien stuff-
I’m a firm beleiver of Molly still being a person who is reacting to whats happening while inside Lucien’s mind, I talked a bit about the disconnect of how Lucien acts towards the m9 (which btw I thought it might happen because of talking in face vs from a distance but my friend pointed out that almost everytime it happened they had connected to Lucien through magic) everything we’ve seen of Lucien says he doesn’t like traitors and it doesn’t take too much for him to see someone as an enemy, but he’s giving the m9 another chance? why? what have they done that’s making him hesitate and try to convince them not to start a fight?
Speaking of Lucien trying to get the M9 to cooperate did he seem a little desperate to anyone else? like he was obviously getting annoyed with some of the party (fjord, Veth, and Beau) but there was this air of “please just trust me!” coming from him and I wonder if it’s because his trust in the tombtakers is low. I don’t know if I said it in my last posts but I think the Hive mind (I know its not actually hive mind) thing with them is something Lucien did after he was revived because he wanted to make sure they couldn’t betray him. I’m really excited to see what the tombtakers are like in the next episode so I can see if they’re being shady towards Lucien (cree is different I understand why she wouldn’t like the m9).
I’m worried about Lucien feeling strangely cold and tired like past the point of them being in the tundra something is going on with him and I have theory's on why but I need more info.
finally the M9 and friends-
the beauyasha moment in 120 was adorable! I loved watching them awkwardly set up a first date, I’m more of a beaujester and yasha x jester shipper but it was still really cute to see and I’m hoping they get to have their date and that it goes well. the fjorjester stuff is a little more complicated, like I said in a previous post its not my cup of tea and I don’t think it works with how they are right now as people. What I think might happen is they have a relationship for a few sessions then they break up and that would be interesting to see, I would like to see a story where a first relationship doesn’t work out and they break up mutually and maybe later end up with other people. I am really happy that travis was able to do stuff outside of his comfort zone (I honestly would not be surprised if Fjord didn’t end up with anyone this campaign same with jester). I saw a lot of people talking about how Caleb might act upon finding out about them being a thing and that it might be some big reaction but I don’t know why, like he said it was a useless love that he wasn’t gonna pursue and that he was being a wingman for fjord and beau. My boi is hurting but I think it will be a brief thing, really painful but short I think he and his relationships with the other characters will be fine.
I mentioned it earlier that I think this floating city has a weird pull on people and how worrying that is, pair that with Essek and Caleb both having instances of lusting after knowledge and I’m worried. I know Beau and Caleb talked about how they can’t trust Essek with the full scope of whats happening but I hope someones keeping an eye on caleb as well.
At this point I have no clue if Veth doesn’t respect other peoples boundaries or if she just doesn’t register them because I’m so annoyed with her fucking with other peoples business. her attitude towards Caleb’s relationships (she’s like an overbearing mother), her messing with the communication between jester and the traveler, and now bulldozing over Beau and Yasha when they were telling her to but out and listen to what they were saying. seriously for like the first 50ish episodes of critical role Fjord was my least favorite party member but its been Nott/Veth for a while now.
the last thing I’m gonna talk about is how big of a problem this city is for the mighty nine if they try to take care of it themselves, this thing seems to consume everything they need to let the bright queen or someone know about this. this is bigger than empire/dynasty drama, I'm hoping that they make friends with the tombtakers or let essek know about this because frankly they’re severely outmatched and out of their depth with this stuff.

just because I have no idea what could happen this episode this will instead of be called my hopes for episode 120 of critical role-
1. essek shows up I miss him a lot and want to see how he’s doing.
2. caleb polymorphs and gets physical affection, I feel like he has to turn into bigger things because when he polymorphs into small stuff the m9 don’t pet him (I’m shading fjord because he didn’t give puffin caleb pets and I think thats why he shit on Beau)
3. I wanna see Lucien again like I will be happy if Lucien just shows up at the end of the episode or sends a message but I wanna see my boi.

Lucien as a character is so interesting and with the cast taking thanksgiving off my head has been thinking more and more about what the next episode might hold.
SPOILER ALERT- talking about critical role stuff again so if you’re not caught up maybe don’t read this.
I’m mainly just gonna talk about Lucien and related topics because he has overtaken my mind and I can’t wait to see him again.
Does Lucien give off possessive vibes to anyone else because I’m definitely getting a hint of it. it’s mostly a feeling I’m getting from him and kinda hard for me to point out cause no specific moments are coming to mind, like Molly was a little possessive so if Lucien is as well I won’t be surprised. I do think if he is that it would be different from Molly’s (I think it would be stronger) and If he ends up joining the party it would be interesting to see how the m9 deal with it (I don’t think it would be that different from how caleb, beau, and fjord’s possessiveness).
I’ve rewatched the latest epsiode (117) a couple times since it was uploaded and wow that conversation with Lucien went not the best well some parts didn’t go well. I do think for most interactions with new people Fjord should be the one talking but in this moment I was really hoping they would leave it up to Cad (because he’s impartial and didn’t know Molly) or Caleb (because he’s smart and asks the good questions) but everytime they made any progress with Lucien Fjord and Veth started talking and Lucien kept getting annoyed with them. I’m convinced the only reason Lucien is letting them get involved with whatever he’s doing is because some of the party members caught his eye as possible recruits.
just from last episode I think we got to see his first impressions of everyone and here’s how I think it went.
1. I think the two he likes the most are Caleb and Yasha because they didn’t annoy him and he seemed a little endeared by them, yasha because of her gentle loyalty and caleb because of his curiosity.
2. I think he’s indifferent towards Cad and Jester because they didn’t talk much and while jester is usually very endearing she was in a very different mood than usual.
3. Beau gets her own group because I think Lucien sees her as a possible recruit but I think He’s also seen her stubborn nature and how unlikely she is to join him.
4.I think he really doesn’t like Fjord and Veth like seriously I mentioned wanting to smack both of them in my last post anytime they talked to Lucien is when that urge came up. like fjord can be a dick but most of the time hes ok, but he does this thing when meeting possible enemies where he acts like he’s outsmarting them and its the main reason I didn’t want him in the conversation (that attitude didn’t work with the gentleman why would it work on Lucien)
My friend brought up that Lucien might have a permanet detect magic going with those eyes of his and if he does what did he see around Caleb like seriously he started making eyes at Caleb so quickly It scared me a bit. I’m kinda hoping since jester has the anti scry necklace right now that Lucien starts scrying and messaging Caleb.
I wonder if that necklace that Cree has is a failsafe for Matt where if the m9 do end up fucking over this arc it’s his way of saving Lucien (and Molly) because I’ve seen people wondering if its holding the memories Molly made and I think it might but not because Cree is evil and manipulating Lucien. we don’t know how smooth Lucien coming back was, theres a good chance when he came back that he got overwhelmed by Molly’s memories that he had Cree take them away so he could focus on his mission.
theres really no point to this post other than me having stray thoughts about Lucien’s thoughts and plans while I wait for Thursday.

it’s always a good moment when I see a critical role episode with so many things happening that my adhd can’t help but develop a mind of its own, so now that my hyper-fixations have stopped beating the shit out of me theres a couple things I wanna bring up most of it theory stuff and the rest personal things. btw its a long post be warned.
SPOILER ALERT- I’m talking about ep 117 of critical role and its a doozy.
I’ve doing my recent posts in a different format and I’m liking it so I’m gonna use it here. btw I gonna mention some ship stuff I want to make clear I have no hate for any ships mentioned but unless I say I like the ship just assume I’m indifferent.
1. I gonna say I called it because even if I’m wrong about about future stuff I was right that it’s not just Lucien in that body, even if Lucien is completely right about molly as the group knew him is gone forever Molly (which I don’t believe at all) is still a fragment of lucien’s soul. now past that I do think molly as a conscious being is still in there and trying to connect with his friends. why? because theres this weird disconnect with how lucien acts communicating with the m9 from a far vs in person, in person it seems like he had his guard way up but when they scry or message him the barrier is lowered a bit I think when his guard isn’t up Molly bleeds into his actions and mind more. I personally see Lucien at being 130% whole because Molly grew into his own thing.
2. regarding my predictions for this episode I’m gonna give myself 2 points (with 1 of the points being made up of half points) I was hoping for flirting and I think we definitely got some version of flirting between Lucien and Caleb so I get a half point for that, not gonna lie I was a little freaked out (in a good way) how fast Lucien zeroed in on Caleb, I hope if things don’t go pear shaped we get to see those two interact more.
3. Personal thing I really wanted to smack Fjord and Veth for most of the episode like they both had moments of being rational (fjord more so) but for the most part i just want to slap them.
4. it was kind of hilarious to see how freaked out Lucien was of the m9, like there was a little of the bad kind of freaked out feeling I think it was mostly like how Ludinus felt meeting Jester. like poor Lucien he’s just doing his thing and suddenly this group of puppies imprints on him and follows him around poor guy. Seems like Lucien has so distrust towards the tomb takers with the whole ‘we are one’ thing, it seemed to be a recent development. I’ve seen people talk about whether the tomb takers/Cree will backstab Lucien I think it’s possible.
5. I think some members of the m9 have realized Caleb’s not doing ok, most likely from the corpse scene and him talking over Beau (bad caleb bad). what they do with this info is gonna be interesting I personally think Cad should talk with him in private maybe have yasha there as well (also hugs please someone hug the sad wizard man him and Yasha both need it).
6. personal thing I don’t understand jester x Fjord as a possible canon ship at this point in the story like i got it in early campaign but I think they’ve both grown and changed to the point where a relationship between the two would end quickly after starting (whether in tears or not). the only times I like seeing their romantic interactions is when Laura and Travis bleed through and at that point its nots really jester and fjord. again no hate you do you I just don’t understand the appeal.
7. I’ve not watched campaign 1 for a few reasons yet but I’ve done research on some of the bigger events one of which was Percy’s resurrection where Taliesin watched how everyone was acting to decide whether to come back or not. I think Cad’s whole talk about what the rest of the m9′s goals towards Molly/Lucien is first Taliesin’s way of deciding whether Molly will be a npc after this arc or if he picks up playing him again (this all of course depending on whether the m9′s stupid actions don’t get Lucien killed), second I think this is Cad’s way of deciding whether his “debt” is payed and if it’s time for him to leave. To be clear I don’t think this was the final decision I think it was the first step to see whether anyone could say they want their friend back and we had two (almost 3) say yeah they do so I think it was a good start.
8. I can totally see Lucien kidnapping some of the m9. this sounds weird but stick with me, it looks like the tomb takers as a whole have a few important spots missing in their mission like they (probably) have a blood cleric in Cree the goliath and halfing seems more strength based I’m not sure about the human and Lucien is filling spot of a little bit of everything. Lucien has already pointed out Caleb as being curious and smart so I think out of the party is Lucien steals any of them it will be Caleb, if not Caleb tho I think Yasha could also be one that gets his attention (especially if Lucien ever sees them fight) I don’t he would kidnap anyone unprompted but if they go through with their stupid plan I’m sure he’ll want payback.
9. I get a full point for crying at both the Yasha clover scene and Molly’s card about Caleb.
10. So my best friend is also a fan of critical role but he always works Thursday’s so he’s behind on actively watching the shows, but I can watch them so I take notes of all the funny, interesting, and weird shit that happens then I call when he gets off work to tell him everything that happened then we talk about what we think will happen next. why does this matter? because before the molly reveal when we first heard about them going to aore (I don’t know how to spell the ruin place) I said I had a feeling Essek would probably show up and run into the m9. well I was right so i’m supper happy, hearing floaty bois voice was awesome I hope Essek and Lucien meet at some point (hopefully not while trying to kill each other that would be sad).
11. Caleb’s eighth floor is so interesting like I hope we get to see all the rooms at some point, I think the room we saw this episode was his room at the asylum (mostly from it’s disarray and how drab it was) as for who he was talking to? I’ve seen a lot of people says its Essek or Astrid (I can smell the incoming discourse) I think it’s neither, it’s probably the simplest answer himself or more specificly Bren. I think he was talking to the Bren that spent years in that bed and chair wasting away.
12. wtf do you mean the big snow worm has a double reason for hunting the party Matt?! (I have no clue what that means).
13. the m9′s decision to try and get to A2 before Lucien and take whatever is there is such a shit idea, why did he kill Vess because she was a traitor she betrayed him what are they m9 about to do betray him even after the warning about straying from the path (which btw I think was molly warning them). If they actually go through with this plan I hope Cad is right on Lucien getting amused at them instead of fucking pissed. good news is that even if they get there before Lucien they could still salvage the thing with Lucien by saying they wanted unbiased answers. I get they’re grieving and in a bunch of pain but use the common sense I know you have and learn more about whats happening before fucking it all up. (also I get half a point from Lucien kicking Vess’s body)
14. I will say I mostly loved this episode (except for the ending) but them talking about possibly scattering Lucien to get Molly back no matter how brief did unsettle me a lot. no matter my feelings about Molly this is Lucien’s body when he was scattered molly did have the right to the body so I don't think any of his actions were wrong or bad but now that Lucien is whole again his bodily autonomy should not be violated just for a unsure chance Molly would come back. As it is Lucien seemed already uneasy and annoyed with stuff molly did (ex-tattoos).
15. I originally wasn’t gonna put this point but I think I should. when Taliesin said “he thought they would be on the other side of this” I think most people thought it was in reference to how it seems like Lucien is evil (I still don’t think he is) but what if he meant Molly’s arc. think of it wouldn’t it make sense for Molly’s arc to focus on his past coming back to meet him what if they always intended for Lucien to become whole again and it was suppose to be Lucien’s thoughts/feelings bleeding into molly’s. but Molly died so instead we’re getting the inverse Lucien has to come to terms with his past as Molly and the people Molly left behind coming into his life. I think it would be a good arc him learning that you can’t run from or ignore the past no matter how much you want to it can and will come bite you in the ass. would also make sense why Lucien and Molly both have that attitude towards their pasts (you know other than being pieces of the same person).

just a small post underneath but has spoilers none the less
I was gonna make a longer post talking about how I think the yeti’s from episode 115 are matt’s way of warning the party that going in looking for a fight with lucien things will end badly and that theres almost no reason lucien would be trying to fuck the m9 over or use them but I’m too tired for that. so instead here I am getting some little thoughts out.
I’m super excited for lucien interactions with the m9 (hopefully theres flirting as well)
probably seeing cree again I missed her and I hope she gets a happy ending from this arc (at least right now I will totally change my mind if she hurts molly or caleb)
I’m not counting molly and the tombtakers killing all those people as evil because self defense is a thing and if this whole lucien arc hadnt happened the m9 would have likely been the ones doing the killing because thats what vess hired them for.
love how vess stressed that there would be tons of traps but we didn’t see any in ep 116 (my personal theory is that molly disabled them so the m9 wouldn’t be in danger)
I was worried the party would go in guns blazing and still attack molly even after agreeing to talk first, so seeing them a little beat up and tired makes me feel a lot better.
I really lucien makes a comment about vess’s body just laying behind caleb
how funny would it be if cad leaves and molly rejoins the group at ep 126

ok so we’ve seen more of molly/lucien and I have some thoughts.
SPOILER ALERT- talking about recent Critical role episodes yet again, you’ve been warned.
when we first found out that Molly was alive I made a post showing my thoughts on what might happen and how people were panicking. I still believe most of that post is correct or close to what will happen with this arc, Molly is still alive just mixed with lucien (more on that later), Taliesin will pick up playing molly at some point, and Cree should not get hate. But now there’s a few other thing to look at so lets begin.
1. Is Lucien evil?
I talked about this last post but I think it needs repeating especially because people in the party finally said it. We don’t know if lucien and the tombtakers are evil, a lot of people assumed they are because of whatever reasons but we don’t know. from what we have seen they’re a mercenary group just like the mighty nien is, they’re trying to do something at the ice place (forgot the name) that might involve freeing something (which we heard from dead vess so unrelaible narrator) well fjord almost freed a demigod snake thing (yasha almost freed something too but she was controlled fjord did it because he wanted power), what else have they done kill someone that a few of the party were already planning to take out because she was a bad person. I’m not saying it’s impossible btw them being evil but with what we know right now it could go either way.
2. Matt is not as cruel as people think
something I love about seeing Matt dm is how kind he is to his party and the audience, he’s not here to kill the party he’s here to tell a story and have fun. when really bad things happen in critical role its not because Matt wanted to hurt the party but because shitty rolls or the players causing something to happen that matt didn’t expect hell Molly’s death is a great example of this. Why am I bringing this up because Matt would have to be incredibly cruel to bring back a beloved player character and have their story end in tragedy without the possibility of it ending happily and I don’t think he would do that. I think it’s completely possible for molly to become a player character again or a friend npc. making him unsavable does nothing for the story other than leave a sour taste in my mouth it would deeply hurt the fans, the party, and I’m sure Matt himself. campaign 2 could do a lot of things and have a lot of outcomes that maybe I wouldn’t be happy about but none of them would ruin the story for me, Matt bringing molly back and then taking him away forever would ruin a bit of the story for I think a lot of people.
3. Lucien or Molly?
another thing I talked about was whether the person in that body is Molly or lucien and my opinion is that its a mix of both of them and the more I see of Molly the stronger that belief grows. there have been moments where molly is quiet and thoughtful almost subdued while others he’s energetic and giddy I think for the most part it’s lucien we’re seeing but I think he either has the memories of molly or they started out both being in the body and have merged. the last episode (115) especially seems to point at this when jester sent him a message. she full out says they’re following because he’s their friend yet when molly responds he makes no mention of that part of her message, its possible cree told him about molly and the nien’s history but then why didn’t he make any comment about hows he’s not that person they knew. so far their interactions have seemed truthful he told them about using them to get Vess’s trail, he told them his travel plan so they could follow if they wanted, expressed that he was happy they followed because he worried he might have scared them off, and even thanked them. I think Molly is in there and he’s just waiting till they’re face to face to bring it up. also Jester about broke my heart with the end of episode message.
4. party problems
If this arc does end horribly I think I can see who might cause it to end that way, one of my worries for the molly is alive reveal is one I’ve not talked about until now. my worry for caleb and his emotions right now, since the idea of talking to molly and then the possibility of reviving molly came up Caleb was for it so when it turned out molly was alive I had the idea that caleb wouldn’t take it well. sometimes people get this anger that has no one to point it at and it’s really dangerous because how do they let it out without hurting others especially is they’re not used to letting their emotions out, Caleb has gotten better at expressing his emotions healthily but he relapses and this seems to be one. he’s done a good job seeming like he’s not affected in that way but sometimes he says something in a tone or snaps at people and its been getting worse. the whole argument with beau at the end of 115 shows it getting worse and coming out if this arc goes haywire I think it will be because Caleb is gonna have a meltdown (of his variety).
I’m super excited for the next episode and I’m sure matt will make me laugh cry a ton but finally we get a proper reunion! hopefully we get some answers and maybe some tombtakers/Mighty nien teamup.

I wonder if the universe was telling me to put off making this post because they knew that I would have new stuff to add to it. whatever the reason here we are, I did decide to split this into two posts one talking about the confirmed sexualities and then leave the talk about how the fandom sees them in the next one.
SPOILER ALERT-I’m gonna be talking about many things both recent and from the beginning of campaign 2 of critical role and talks machina in regards to character sexuality. this might include talking about scenes or characters you haven’t seen yet if you’re not caught up.
In the Mighty Nein party there are currently four characters with confirmed sexualities (kinda more on that later)
Beau Lionett
Mollymauk Tealeaf
Caleb Widogast
and Yasha Nydoorin
I want to talk about Yasha first though because out of the four she’s the one I waffled between putting in this list vs the other one. Something to keep in mind for this is I’m not just talking about queer sexualitities, you’ll see this more in the next post (especially talking about Nott/Veth) but I’m not treating straight as the default if they want me to believe one of their characters is straight they’re gonna have to say it outright.
Now obviously Yasha is not straight we’ve seen two big examples of her being attracted to other women. Her recent flirting with Beau and her previous marriage to a woman named Zuala, this has led to her commonly being labelled a lesbian even by other party members (Liam’s the one coming to mind). I honestly have no idea if Yasha is a lesbian in the sense of there have been moments with some other characters that I think point to her being attracted to other genders as well but the could just be my brain misreading things. I think I just have doubt about it because most of my friends and family thought of me as lesbian because I have a strong preference for woman but I’m pan romantic so Yasha could be similiar.
On the other hand Beau is definitely a lesbian and I adore her. Marisha confirmed long ago that Beau is a lesbian and did not hide her attraction even from the start, I love how blunt Beau is in just about every part of her life and her sexuality not being any different, I can also sympathize with her I also have a crush on every woman who can kick my ass (if they can also lift me then I start hearing wedding bells).
I know I talked about Molly a bit in the gender post but hey the purple boy also fits in this list. Molly is Bisexual not only confirmed but shown very obviously in the show (pillowtrove threesome) so the question for me about him is if Lucien is in that body is he also Bi, a part of me has a feeling that if we meet and learn who Lucien is he might turn out to act like a older more jaded Molly so if he does end up also being genderfluid and Bi I won’t be that surprised.
Finally we’ve gotten to the newest addition to this list, I think since the beginning of the mighty nein campaign people have thought of Caleb as being Bisexual (I don’t know for sure since I entered the fandom at the start of quarantine). Caleb being confirmed as Bi is something I didn’t think we would see for a while outside of a drastic situation. Like don’t get me wrong I’m so happy Liam talked about it, but just from how Caleb is as a character I didn’t think we would find out until he was in a scene where he thought everyone was gonna die or Liam told us (which he ended up doing). I hope in game we see more of him being comfortable enough to show it but who knows.
Sadly it was hard to find spots for my own thoughts in this post but next one is probably be full of my ramblings (take this as your warning) I’m sad there’s no new episode this week but I’d also rather have all hands on deck for how crazy this next episode might become, ugh splitting this into two parts makes it easier on my hands but now I need to figure out how to link stuff.

ok so a few weeks back I had an idea to talk about the canon queer characters in Critical role Campaign 2 (I haven’t watched campaign one yet for some personal reasons) and the queer interpretations of the rest of the party. At first I was put both the sexualities and gender identities in one massive post but that proved to be too much for me to do so I’m instead doing a post for gender identities and the one about sexuality will come in a couple days (hopefully).
SPOILER ALERT- there will be mentions and talk about Nott’s character arc if you aren’t caught up with it then maybe don’t look at this.
I actually did a fair bit of research for this and I’m excited to show it.
So first off we have one canon trans person in the mighty nein party the fabulous Mollymauk Tealeaf! Molly has been confirmed to be genderfluid by his player Taliesin, He/Him seem to be the pronouns used the most for him (though Taliesin has said he doesn’t mind other sets). I loved how Molly was played and he was a big inspiration when I was making a new character for my family’s campaign.
one of the interesting things about Molly’s gender in fandom is how people perceive it, Using Ao3 as an example you can find a lot of Genderfluid Molly tags but you’ll also find Nonbinary and Trans molly tags a plenty. I actually looked up how much of each stories exist(this isn’t perfect because some people don’t tag it)
Nonbinary Mollymauk-85
Genderfluid Mollymauk-57
Trans Mollymauk-46
I’ve read multiple stories from each section and enjoyed most of them so go check some out they're fun and I’m really curious to see if Lucien is also genderfluid (if it is Lucien in that body).
while Molly is our only canon trans character there’s actually someone who’s character arc is very similar to the lives and feelings of some trans people. Nott is first introduced us as Nott the brave a goblin woman but at the beginning of her arc we learn she was originally a halfing woman named Veth Brenatto who was turned into a Goblin by some hag person against her will, throughout her arc the themes of being in the wrong body and not feeling like herself are brought up many times until she regains her true form in episode 97. While her character may not be trans I’m not the only one to see the similarities and parallels between her and someone experiencing body dysphoria and people treating them a certain way because of they look even when that look doesn’t match who they really are (though it needs to be said not every trans person experiences body dysphoria or the need to transition)
Now lets look at fandom interpretations of the remaining party members, for this part I again used Ao3 to show me some numbers. it’s not perfect and it doesn’t confirm how popular any particular headcannon is over another but it was fun to look at.
here are the results of looking up all critical role fics with any tag including the word trans-385 out of 15308 stories all together
then I started filtering out certain tags starting with all trans vox machina character which left me with this-329
next was trans Essek because while I love him I was focusing on the mighty nein-313
from there I then looked at specific tags for individual characters
trans Caleb-86
trans Molly-46
trans Fjord-35
trans Cad-20
trans Beau-17
trans Jester-12
trans Nott/Veth-9
trans Yasha-0
after subtracting these numbers from the stories left we have-88 stories with vague trans tags but not specific characters attached to them (or if they did they were minor characters with only one or two stories). most of these use the tags Trans male character/Trans female character so they could be anyone or multiple characters from the party but I’m not reading 88 stories to find out.
I personally love all these tags and seeing fan content of them being trans so I’m happy these tags exist, some of them did surprise me like jester I thought there was way more stories with her being trans (more people get on that they would be wonderful to see).
My end thoughts on all this is that for all the chaotic yelling the 1% of this fandom does the rest make pretty wonderful and interesting stuff, like I love talking to my best friend about the different headcannons I see floating around for each character. I personally hope that in the next campaign more non cis characters are created and explored because they’re awesome and if we find out someone else in the party is trans that will also be great. This is really long but the post about sexualities will be even longer (I might split that one up too).

So episode 111 of Critical Role was crazy so I have thoughts and stuff I want to talk about.
SPOILER WARNING- I’m gonna be talking about the most recent episode of CR episode 111 and past stuff
first things first lots of freaking out from the fandom right now like I understand I freaked out when matt ended the episode with Molly(?) being alive too, but I think there definitely is some over reacting happening. we have two weeks to stew over this cliffhanger and I really don’t need this running in circles in my head for that long so now you get this post about my thoughts on this whole thing.
I have four things I wanna talk about The hate/anger towards Cree, who is in Molly’s body, what those people are like, and the future of some of the party members (probably not in that order)
1. Heard a lot of people talking about about how excited or worried that evil molly is walking around (Lucien) and this confuses me, we know very little about Lucien definitely not enough to be calling him evil. I’m not gonna say he’s sunshine and rainbows because we do have that quote from Cree
“ He was very charismatic in his cruelty at times”
but this doesn’t mean evil just like how some of the fucked up shit the mighty nien have done don’t make them evil, non-evil mercenary groups exist. I don’t know what Lucien is like if I had to guess I’m guessing similar to Molly in personality but more withdrawn and careful but we won’t know for who knows how long it might not even be Lucien in that body.
2. who is in that body? most people seem to thinks it’s Lucien, a new person, or a mix of multiple people with a very small chance of it being Molly. I personally think it’s a mix, but that Molly is very much still there mostly because of how Matt described his smile “a grin full of confidence and purpose” does that not sound like Molly? Matt is really good at showing when a character is not in their right mind using facial features and his voice (ex- Caleb and Yasha getting charmed, Yasha under Obann’s control, the whole thing with the bridge) but with Molly(?) who else would be smiling in a blizzard other than him.
3. Cree really doesn’t deserve to be getting the hate she is.
imagine this the leader of your friends the person holding you all together dies you bury him, your friends split up and you’re alone until you get employed by some guy, for 2 years you work and try and build something for yourself until one day that same leader walks in they look and act a bit different but they’re alive you’re so happy you can get your friends back together now. except they don’t want that they want to go off with this other group and the more you talk to them the more you notice how clueless they are about things they should know. they leave on a job that's ok you’ll talk when they get back but they don’t come back you lose them again.
I think Cree has been through a lot of pain she knew Lucien for what 4-5 years from what Beau found that's a lot longer than the few months the nien (except Yasha who had 8 more months with him) had with Molly. We don’t know what Cree’s objective is could be bad could be good it’s probably a mix of both, I do think that Cree buried his coat but I can understand wanting to have your friend back hell we fucking saw how much Caleb wanted to bring Molly back even with some of the group being uncomfortable with it they were both being selfish. whatever Cree is doing I doubt it has anything to do with the Nien other than she’s maybe heading to floating city place and they might meet the party there. She’s not that different from the Mighty Nien in my opinion.
4. ok so this I expect to maybe get some hate for, I think Cad will leave the party for Molly’s return and I think that’s a good thing. here’s why when we first met Cad (please don’t make me spell the whole thing) he told us he wasn’t staying till the end and yeah things change but when brought up again after his arc was done things still have that temporary edge to them “I’m not ready to go home yet” “Some of them still need me”. Cad is a great character and Im so happy we got to see him but I think Taliesin wants to play Molly again like seriously his face when they brought up Molly and everything that followed he doesn’t look like someone upset at having to possibly play their dead character.
I’m probably a bit biased towards this because Molly is one of my favorite characters and I miss him so badly. In the recent episodes the possible leaving of Cad and Veth kept coming up and I think that’s on purpose coming from Taliesin to get us used to the idea of Cad leaving (Veth I think for the moment will stay but that may change). I could easily be wrong Cad might stay till the end of the campaign with Molly dying again or becoming a Npc or disappearing never to be seen again (or in the next campaign) if he stays I won’t be mad and if he leaves I’ll still be sad.
there I’m done with this now I really needed to get this out of my head before it had a chance to burrow down for two weeks so now I can focus on other stuff like that really hard to put into words post about the mighty nien and their canon and fanon sexualities/gender identities

ugh I’m finding it a lot harder than I thought it would be to stop acting like a lurker and actually post shit. anyways the ideas I was thinking of was a series of posts just highlighting episodes of Critical Role that have a lot of ship moments (of all the ships) and the other is gonna be one talking about the different canon/fanon sexualities and gender identities of the mighty nein because you know it’s interesting and I can do whatever I want on my blog

I wonder if I’ll be able to work out these two post ideas running around in my head before the next episode of critical role goes live. for one of them it wouldn’t really matter unless something huge relating to it happens (tho with how 104 left off it might) but it could make the other idea a little complicated. oh well I have a few days we”ll see what happens

Widofjord/Mchanzo
brought to you by my hyper fixations
So the other day I was talking to a friend about Widofjord (a ship from critical role between a half-orc fjord and a human Caleb) and while talking I happened across some Mchanzo (a ship from overwatch between Hanzo and McCree) fanart and got deja vu. After thinking on it for a little bit I realized that the same appeal I saw in Mchanzo was in Widofjord not all of it but enough for me to write out a chart.
Before I begin SPOILER WARNING! I’m gonna be talking about critical role and the backstories of some of the characters from campaign 2 if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend its a great show I love it, I’m also talking about Overwatch lore (a lot less) so if you don’t know hanzo’s past you should watch the dragon short for context.
Note- neither one of these ships is canon and in the case of Mchanzo there are very few interactions between them.
Lets start with the similarities
1. Hanzo and Caleb both hate themselves, both of them have done horrible things in their past that causes them to have very low (nonexistent) opinion of themselves.
2. Caleb and Hanzo were both trained to be assassins (Hanzo by his family clan and Caleb by Trent Ikkithon)
3. Both ships have friendly banter on their interactions. In the case of Mchanzo they have only a few voice line conversations but none of them are angry ex- McCree:  You know, that sake's not half bad but... I prefer a little bite to my liquor.                                                                                                                   Hanzo:  How predictable! Such an unsophisticated taste.                                    Now with Fjord and Caleb they have had multiple moments of light affectionate banter (seriously watch critical role these two are adorable)
4. Fjord and McCree both having a father figure in a commanding officer, for McCree this is a little more blurry because Overwatch lore is nonexistent and we don’t fully know if the relationship between him and Reyes (reaper) was like father and son. Fjord on the other hand has made it clear that his old captain Vandran was like a father to him.
5. Hanzo attempted to murder his younger brother Genji (it failed but he did live ten years afterwards thinking he had succeeded) because of the manipulations of his clan, Caleb did kill both of his parents after being manipulated by his academy teacher into thinking they were traitors to their country.
6. Fjord has a pirate atheistic(and a Cowboy one at the beginning at the campaign), McCree has a cowboy atheistic they might not be the exact same but it does show how extra both of them are.
7. Though their pasts are a bit different (more on that later) McCree and Fjord are both trying to move forward from a couple wrongdoings. McCree was part of a black ops group that made some shady choices while Fjord almost released a spoiled demi god that would have fucked over the world so they both have some shit to work through.
8. this one kinda annoys me but people have a habit of assuming McCree and Fjord are idiots (in their respective universes) when neither one is.
9.Both Hanzo and Caleb are great long range attackers (Hanzo with his bow and Caleb with his spells)  but are very fragile and squishy short range.
10. Hanzo has two spirits that are summoned when he uses his special attack, Caleb has a fey cat he summons for comfort and recon missions.
Both ships have a lot in common and I’m sure there are a couple more things I could have mentioned but I think this includes all the big things. Now onto their differences.
1. lets get the biggest ones out of the way the medium these two ships exist are very different, one is a mmo shooter game with only voice lines and the odd short to tell a story through so the only Mchanzo interacts happen with their voices. Looking through all the Overwatch events there’s a good amount of them talking but nothing else to draw from. Meanwhile Critical Role is a group of nerdy ass voice actors playing dnd and telling a story with their characters, interactions between Fjord and Caleb are plentiful and awesome to see along with all the other characters but that means we have way more info about them to compare.
2. McCree had a criminal past of being in the deadlock gang before joining Blackwatch that does affect him as a character, but Fjord’s past was the opposite completely boring (not a bad thing with how he is it would have been weird and not made sense if he had a complicated backstory) working on a ship.
3. Early in the Mighty Nein Campaign Fjord threatened Caleb with a sword to the neck if Caleb didn’t put back a scroll he wanted to take while escaping from a house they broke into, this has affected their friendship and been brought up a couple times months later. With what lore we do have for Overwatch McCree has not threatened Hanzo.
4. this one might seem a bit strange to include but it’s a major difference to me. In Blackwatch McCree actually worked alongside a recently almost killed Genji, I don’t know how friendly their relationship might have been but there’s a good chance McCree heard some version of how Hanzo tried to kill Genji. Fjord Has had to learn Caleb’s backstory from Caleb himself and he still doesn’t know the full story (not even after 103 episodes lol)
5.Redemption and the possibility of it is a big thing in both Hanzo and Caleb’s backstories and current actions but is different for each one. Hanzo did something horrible but he has a chance for complete (or almost complete) redemption for his actions as long as he works with and towards making it up to genji, except he doesn’t take it in his interactions with Genji in game he’s hostile, angry, and in denial (in the dragons short hes pretty much the same). Caleb on the other hand has a chance for partial redemption (there’s no way for him to bring his parents back without fucking up everything else but he can work towards stopping other kids from being hurt) and he is working towards it. Its worth mentioning that before learning that Genji is still alive Hanzo had his own way of earning redemption (and I think he did believe he could earn it) but Caleb has said multiple times he doesn’t deserve it and it’s impossible for him until recent arcs. I also don’t think one is better than the other they’re just different ways they’re reacting to possible redemption.
at the end of the day I love both of these ships and all the characters involved, they both have potential for angst and fluffy romantic shit. I’m happy to get this out of my system it was fun thinking about it but I have way too many thoughts to look at to keep thinking about this. check out critical role campaign 2 if you have free time or need something to play in the background while ya work and I’m gonna hope for more McCree/Hanzo interactions in Overwatch 2 goodnight!
