Having ADHD is so unfair. Human's greatest weapon is useless. Caffeine does nothing to me. If I don't get enough sleep, I am simply fucked. There is no cure. There is no sippy sip of a coffee or energy drink to pick me up. Only suffering and regret.

Realizing that my ADHD is why I’ve said my entire life “I’m never still” and people would comment how when I talked with my hands they were like birds (or butterflies) fluttering around me. That my ADHD is probably why I read through the Anne Rice library of books like a hot knife through butter and why I would read seven books at one time. The fact I loved the feeling of having long nails to drag like a cursor from word to word while reading and the little shushing noise it created was calming because it was probably a stimming thing. Why I couldn’t (and still haven’t) found a comfortable sitting position. That my ADHD is why every heartbreak still lives in my DNA. The fact I could listen to one song or CD for weeks on end (in my car where no one would complain) why I can hear the slightest tapping from someone else and it grates on my nerves while blaring my music was like a lullaby. My other stims are much more “lady like” because I unconsciously learned how to do both in a way to satisfy my need and not upset others. My ADHD has defined so much of my life and it’s a shame I didn’t learn I had it until I was 44 and had to learn the rest of this information from social media. No one told me my Executives were dysfunctioning, no one told me about lack of Object Permanence; I was just forgetful or flighty or “would lose my head if it wasn’t on my shoulders”. I’m not a failure, I’ve had a neglected health issue for 44 years. That takes its pound of flesh regardless if its your fault or not.

yes, it is true that attention spans are shorter than they used to be. but not everyone experiences the specific pattern of poor working memory, time blindness, rsd, lack of object permanence, executive dysfunction, hyperfocus, hyperfixations, extreme boredom, emotional dysregulation, poor processing speed, and sensory issues that are present in adhd

The Paladins as things that reaffirmed my neurodivergency
Pidge is discreetly trying to talk to Hunk at work about the rattata problem at Garrison and Keith overhears this and goes about the rest of his day very confused as the how the Garrison hasn't cracked down on a Pokemon Go problem
He slapped himself in the face in the middle of the night upon realising Pidge was talking about rats
Lance never properly hears what is said to him the first time round when it comes to instructions as it takes him just a bit longer for it to process
Coran: So number 4, I'm gonna need you to turn the dial on that four times before-
Lance: huh?
Coran: I'm gonna need you to-
Lance: Oh! Right! Yeah, I got you. What next?
Coran: uh...
But also Lance can pick up and recognise basically any song, movie, tv show and quote he's ever heard to within a split second of hearing it
*Pidge and Hunk turning on a movie they got from the Earth store on the space mall*
TV: Onc-
Lance: ARE YOU WATCHING HAPPY FEET WITHOUT ME?!?
Pidge trials and errors her interactions with other people and has set verbal reactions that she responds to common interactions she may have to have any given day in order to give off a certain impression
*Pidge almost bumping into an alien in a market place*
Pidge:*slightly higher monotone voice* oops sorry
Hunk: How have you said that the exact same way the last four times you've said that?!?!?
Lance is very keen on his beauty sleep cause in his earlier days at the Garrison he began noticing on the days he didn't get enough sleep, his focus would be so bad that he could barely read
Hunk has to wear two sets of gloves when washing dishes because the idea of his hands feeling wrinkly makes him feel really queasy
Pidge occasionally has sensory overload and when this happens she puts her earphones on and shuts her eyes and feels too awkward to explain to Shiro when he's placing a blanket over her that she's not actually asleep
Hunk sings a lot and harmonises with whatever song is on so that it's matching cause the active task of following it along calms him down when his anxietys through the roof
Lance when hanging out with the others for too long but still wants to spend time with them will often go sit in the corner and lie down with one headphone in so he can still hear and feel like he's participating but still recuperate
Keith cannot respond to sarcasm as anything other than serious because he finds it difficult to know the difference and even when it's blatant he will still respond seriously on the off chance that it could be for fear of upsetting someone trying to have a real conversation
Keith, when socially exhausted, finds it really difficult to not muddle his words up and will get very irritated with himself when he can't say a sentence right
Keith: Hey Lince-Li-Lince-Lonce-LANCE AGHH!
Lance: Hey man it's fine, slow your roll. What's up?
Keith: Is there any mar-more of hat-hat-THAT teeth-TEA!
Lance: Yeah buddy, yeah we got the sleepy time tea
Shiro used to walk round his house at night with a bottle of deodorant as a weapon cause he used to have intrusive thoughts about intruders but after being taken by the galra, he walks round with his prosthetic out in front of him (he begins working with Coran on learning not to do this anymore after scaring the shit out of him in the middle of the night)
Only Hunk and eventually Keith will let Lance sit next to them if they're all playing a card games because if Lance zones out mid game he will begin absent mindedly read out the cards in their hand outloud
(eventually Keith cause for a while he wasn't sure whether or not Lance was doing it on purpose but when Lance was also accidentally reading his own cards out loud, he figured Lance wouldn't put himself at a disadvantage like that on purpose)
Keith often had communication issues with foster families and Garrison instructors for not picking up on non verbal cues and now gets very frustrated when people tell him that he should know what they're talking about
Shiro will often take time to talk to Keith about his interactions with people to help him understand where other people are coming from
Lance often notices things going on way in the background but cause he noticed it when he's not focused he forgets to say anything until it's brought up by the others
*Paladins have been walking in the forest for a while*
Pidge: We should be getting close by soon
Hunk: Ugh! Why's it taking so long? Shouldn't we have gotten there by now? I'm sure the directions Allura said it shouldn't take more than 20 dobash- dobashes... it shouldn't have taken longer than half an hour to find the city-
Lance: Oh!
Lance: Yeah, that's cause we've been walking in the wrong direction for like a varga
Hunk and pidge: ..........
Lance: .. .......
Keith: ........Lance....
Hunk: BRO!!
Pidge: LANCE!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING A VARGA AGO?!
Lance: I dunno! I guess I thought you guys were exploring for some reason!!?!

Keith: Food needs to be soft and borderline overcooked. Cannot touch hardwood floor with his bare feet. Goes nonverbal very frequently, really struggles with eye contact and small talk. Fidgets when he has to talk in front of others and his blade is his comfort object. Can adapt to new things quickly
Lance: Do not overcook his food. Socks are his enemies. Impulse rambles and needs to be gently stop when he falls into a spiral. Can pick up on social cues and doesn't have to struggle as much to make eye contact. Stims when things are quiet, needs a lot of stimulation. Always need a blanket. Struggles to adapt to new change / information
