“I don’t particularly care what they think of me, it’s just weird being around it again.”

“So why waste your time thinking about what the ones that don’t matter think?”

“Because whether or not I want to deal with them anymore, they’re there. I have to see them, I have to interact with them.”

“But aren’t you like the big name or whatever?” she asked, rolling her eyes. Truly not having very much understanding of the English wizarding aristocracy.

“Oh, the biggest,” he chuckled. “Or one of.”

“Why does it matter what they think?” she raised a brow. 

“Because now I’m back in it,” he rolled his eyes.

“You’ve only been back for a few months, I’m sure it’ll be weird for a while,” she nodded, “but that doesn’t mean it will always be weird.”

“I’m not exactly entirely welcome in pureblood society, you know,” he chuckled.

“Maybe one day it’ll be better,” she offered, trying to be optimistic, “You’ll be able to fix things with your brother and then maybe with your other cousins.”

“Andromeda and I are fine,” he shrugged. “It’s... weird with Narcissa, though.”

“I know, I’m just saying,” she shook her head, “Your own family should have been there for you as well.”

“That’s just not how it is,” he shrugged one shoulder, giving her a half smile.

“She’s never understood you,” Mia sighed, sad for him, “I’m sorry, Sirius. You deserve better than that.”

“It doesn’t matter, Mia,” he chuckled, finally opening his eyes. “I had James’s mum, she’s always been lovely to me.”

“I don’t think she hated you,” she commented after a few moments, “I only met her the once, but it didn’t seem like hate. She just didn’t understand you. Or maybe she didn’t like the parts of herself she saw in you. I don’t know.”

“She’s never liked me,” he shook his head. “For as long as I can remember.”

“Doesn’t it? It proves her right. That she was better off cutting her losses when she kicked you out,” she pointed out.

“I don’t know,” he sighed, eyes still closed. 

“Because it doesn’t look good for me to be in prison, does it?”
