Biology -  the cell cycle
I’m going to try writing out my notes on paper, then converting them to online text for me to look back at, without using my notes as a guide. Nothing will be In order of when it occurs, but sections beginning with a bold title will be.
The Cell Cycle:
The Cell Cycle consists of 3 stages:
Interphase = Longest/Largest process in the cell cycle. Cell basically prepares for mitosis. (More on this later)
Mitosis = Asexual process of cell division. (More on this later)
Cytokinesis = Following after Mitosis (or meiosis), when the cytoplasm is divided to form two daughter cells.
Interphase consists of 3 stages:
G1 = Cells grows + Makes proteins and organelles that will be needed for two cells.
S = Synthesizing (or replication) DNA for mitosis. Chromosomes are duplicated.
G2 = Cells grows bigger + proteins necessary for mitosis are produced (cell synthesizes).
The 5 Stages of Mitosis
Acronym = PMAT
Prophase = Nuclear membrane breaks down, early spindles form, DNA is condensed & packaged as chromosomes, nucleolus disappears.
Metaphase = Duplicated DNA align in the middle of the spindles, ready to be pulled apart.
Anaphase = DNA chromosomes are pulled apart by the spindle fibers, two chromatids separate and are pulled toward the opposite poles of the cell, spindle fibers disappear, nuclear membrane reforms.
Telophase = Cell divides into two cells.
Cytokinesis
The single eukaryotic cell is divided to form two daughter cells.
-
Throughout the Cell Cycle, there are checkpoints to see if everything is working as it should be.
