Honestly I'm impressed the Struts horses have articulated legs! I know they're still fashion dolls even though they're horses, I just wouldn't think they'd have sprung for the extra articulation when traditional horse figurines are static, it's pretty cool and I can see why you'd like them

The craziest thing about them is that they only have one (1) articulated leg. It's such a choice. I love everything about their design.

Plasticizer leakage is the process by which plasticizers (chemical additives that make plastic soft) migrate to the surface of a figure and evaporate. Plasticizer leakage is characterized by a sticky coating on the surface of the figure.

Plasticizer migration and evaporation is inevitable. All soft plastic toys, which are softened with plasticizers, will harden over time.

Keep leaky plastic figures away from other items, as leaking plasticizers can stain and discolor items they come into contact with. Leaked plasticizer can damage fabric to an unsalvageable degree.

Soft plastic figures should not be stored in boxes, as this hinders plasticizer evaporation and can discolor the figure. For proper plasticizer evaporation to occur, soft plastic figures should be stored in a well-ventilated area.

If plasticizer does not evaporate properly, it will form a sticky film on the figure's surface, to which dust and hair will cling. This can be cleaned off with water and soap. The figure will have to be cleaned regularly until all the plasticizer has evaporated, after which the figure will have hardened completely. If the plasticizer doesn't come off with a gentle scrub, soak the figure in diluted dish soap for a few hours, then gently scrub it again. Avoid using strongly scented soap, as the scent will cling to the figure.

Plasticizer will evaporate faster if figures are stored in sunlight. This is not recommended, as it may discolor or damage the figure. It seems that heat, in addition to ventilation, is a problem, as plasticizer leakage is more common/pronounced in hot and humid climates.

Went to a historical village recent and saw some ye olde horse toys, and thought of you!

There wasn't an exact label but most things were early to mid 1900s

CUTE!!! They look like celluloid toys - an early type of plastic that was quickly replaced by other plastics because it had an unfortunate tendency to release toxic gas and catch on fire in direct sunlight!

Hullo! Do you (or perhaps a follower who sees this??) happen to have tips for storing schleish horses? I don't have space to display my old herd but I'm gonna give them a bath and store them better, probably add some cardboard between feet to avoid warping too... But yeah is there some mysteries to look out for?

Also look at this dude I picked up, I used to have her as a kid so I couldn't pass her 🥺🤎 (she'll get a spa day too!)

Oh, I love that little guy, she's SO cute!!

The way I store Schleichs (and other figures I don't want scuffed) is either 1) carefully balanced so they don't really rub against each other, 2) loosely wrapped in tissue paper, for transporting over short distances, or 3) tightly wrapped in tissue/crepe/packing paper, for shipping
