Anna Haining Swan was born in Nova Scotia in 1846, by the age of 17 she was 7 feet 11.5 inches tall. She married Martin van Buren Bates, who was also around 8 foot tall, in 1871. They had the largest newborn ever recorded at 23 lbs and 12 oz, and 30 inches long.
