You do not need to close your lines, you do not need perfect clean lines which define all forms. You will see these things often in professional works like animation because they are designed to make things easier to animate and color.
Unless you are working in that field or directed to by your superiors, your art does not need to be pristine and clean like animation. It can often express more if it's dirty.
