Ravens as an Omen
Ravens are most commonly found in wooded areas with nearby open spaces, though they can sometimes be found in cities. Ravens are very sociable, and mate for life, meaning the bird they mate with once is the bird they remain with. Ravens are very intelligent and have been known to play tricks on other species. Ravens from cooler climates will tend to have larger beaks than ravens from warmer climates.
A group of ravens is called an unkindness. They are often associated with death and other unpleasant things.
Swedish folklore states that ravens are spirits of the dead.
German mythology says that ravens are damned souls.
North American tribes often honored ravens as a creator and/or a trickster figure. In both of these cases, the raven’s intelligence is a defining characteristic.
The raven’s ability to mimic speech caused it to appear as a messenger of prophet, or other form of supernatural communicator.
British legend states that England will never fall to an invader so long as there are ravens at the Tower of London.
Ravens, in common with crows, will tell you to remember to enjoy life.
Ravens are often associated with the occult, and are linked to magic and prophecy. Ravens are great companions for work relating to the Otherworld or intro respective journeys like shadow work.
The raven may also be a symbol of patience.
