Hi! Love your blog!
We know that made Lestat's abuse of Louis way more prominent in show (decision I still don't agree with but that's not the matter) and we have Jacob saying that s2 is way darker than book. People speculate that it's because they'll include FrankenClaudia who technically wasn't in this particular book but do you think they'll make Loumands relationship more toxic too like they did with Loustat? (I know they added romance to loustat but they also added beating scene that was on way way more smaller scale in book). Do you think they'll add more gaslighting? Emphasize on Armand making Louis turn Madeleine against his will?
Thank you for answering!
Hey nonny!
So glad you like!
I do think that they will heavily lean into that, yes. (And this "interview" is already held with the content of several books, so imho it doesn't really matter where the content comes from... Rolin held 6? or 7 books up to the camera^^). This will be a bit longer^^:
As all things are said to be revisited we will see how s1 will hold up, but of course it will stay correct that they emphasized the abuse vector. And that is a very valid thing for the Vampire Chronicles! There is a LOT in there, especially abuse, but also like... everything else, too. (As the Twitter discourse currently on Marius also... shows.)
So to get back to your actual question: yes I do think they will emphasize this part (though if they add more? We will see.), I think they have already hinted at that in season 1, but the book canon and their chosen promotional posters give us a very poignant hint here as well.
If we look at the "elevator posters" for example, we have Lestat, Louis and Claudia looking sideways at the observer*, in various state of emotions: fear, anger, and aware consternation (maybe), respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then we have Armand, *the observer, who looks down the length of his nose at them, with an air of superiority and a hint of a smile, clearly the one in charge:
Tumblr media
It is also important to note that he is half in shadow but from the front here, not sideways as the others. The other three are almost completely "in the light", visible as it were. Armand... is not.
Now, if you remember the poster of season 1, then this is a direct echo of it, as well as a development from it:
Tumblr media
Lestat was only half visible, behind Louis, since we only heard of him through Louis. Now he is in the same "position" as Louis and Claudia, almost fully revealed.
It is interesting that those elevator pictures keep Claudia in this position here, too, but it makes sense when one knows what will revealed only in later books about her and her play (I have talked about the twist from Merrick).
Now the posters sold at SDCC are equally interesting, because they speak their own language:
First off, we have Louis, holding the mask of Lestat in his hand, a mask taken off, and the mask echoes Lestat's "death face". He is looking into space, beyond it, and he seems to be seated in the back of a stage (given that we have a scene photo with Lestat seated on stage that carries ... repercussions^^).
"La mémoire est un monstre". The second half of IWTV is (among other things of course) Louis yearning for Lestat and learning a few... uncomfortable truths. Masks are taken off, and the revelations will be bloody. Louis will be condemned to be a spectator for some of them, and in the book it culminates in a very poignant speech about passivity.
Tumblr media
And then there's Claudia. "La famille est un monstre." Dancing as Carmen, the red flamenco dress making her seem older than she is (supposed to be). The dress emulates flames, the audience is dead. She is almost smirking at the beholder, definitely proud of who she is, and her feet are naked.
"Carmen, a searing depiction of a woman who craves love, but creates obsession and jealousy, is one of the most popular operas ever written." (x)
The Carmen reference feels perfect for me, it will be very interesting to see which aspects they take up for the show, who Madeleine will be, given the World War 2 context, and the jealousy of the soldier in the original opera.
Tumblr media
Then there is "L'amour est un monstre". Love is a monster. Love is the monster. The lover is the monster. For these vampires all these variations fit, and I do not just mean Loumand here, but generally.
Armand seems to say something to Louis, who is looking into space, with a slight frown.
Tumblr media
The movie poster from "Gaslight", a movie about a whirlwind romance and the new husband isolating the wife from the world and "gaslighting" her to make her appear mad and doubt her own sanity to get at what she possesses... now the IWTV people know what they're doing *laughs*
Tumblr media
Anyone who has read IWTV and TVA knows that Armand spell-binds Louis on several occasions, and influences him to do things, for example turning Madeleine, as you mentioned.
Interestingly enough there is also a man with a face half in light, half in shadows here - and that is echoed on Louis in the poster, one half is painted red - indicating he doubles with the police officer of the movie, discovering the things that are supposed to be hidden from him.
And, last but definitely not least, the general poster, without caption:
Tumblr media
Lestat is "almost" revealed, our "view" of him still restricted somewhat by Louis and Claudia, as well from the theater curtain.
Claudia is engaged with whatever is happening beyond our view, Louis... is not. He is restraining himself, hands in pockets, mouth set and his gaze is dark, somewhere between accusation and anger. Lestat's gaze is open here, carrying a vague challenge, an expectation.
If we take the elevator pictures back into account one could argue they are looking at Armand here - and that would fit with the story:
Lestat will come to Armand hoping for something, expecting something. Louis will come to some very uncomfortable realizations, and events that will make him beyond angry. Claudia will try to move on, leave Armand behind. And even Louis, arguably.
So to wrap this up: I'm not sure they will add more gaslighting. More toxicity.
Because I don't think they actually need to! There is plenty there already. They will however build on what's there, and it has been more than hinted at imho. (Arguably that happened in season 1 as well, as a lot of that ep 5 scene echoes something in later books, and we will know only after season 2 how it will click into place.)
Armand uses his spell-gift on Louis even after promising not to do it (in the book, I talked about it here), and given how this show drags things into the light they will definitely hook into this. I think both definitions of "gaslighting" will apply - given the structure of the show they might make Armand the "villain" (that he was in the first books) this time round, though of course this word doesn't quite fit for these vampires.
Armand is the one who tortures Nicki and chops off his hands. We are getting flashbacks to that time, and we know that we will get to see Lestat and Nicki in that time. I would bet money on it that they will explore that part of their history.
Armand is the one who tortures Lestat, and uses him to pull the mock trial off.
Armand is the one who throws Lestat off a tower, challenging him to love him... a scene many book readers expect to at the very least echo, if not replace the ep5 scene, depending on how they spin it.
Armand is the one who influences Louis to do things, and who lies to both Louis and Lestat about the other.
Armand is the one who has Claudia (and Madeleine) killed, because she was in the way.
I know show only viewers see Lestat as the epitome of toxicity right now, but... he's actually not. Jacob put it well in that interview that Louis is "angry at him and presents him as a monster".
The show made choices, and given that it's Lestat (who is just the tiniest bit important for the following seasons/books after all)... this requires other choices to be made.
And going by the posters they have given us - they do.

In Throes of Increasing Wonder
Tumblr media
From Daniel's past works, it is clear this is someone that is not scared of finding out the truth, digging it out, and confronting people with those truths through his work.
Hate and Ashbury dive into the Haight at its height
Haight- A street in San Francisco named after California pioneer and exchange banker Henry Haight; a 1960s rallying point for drug culture, especially LSD (hallucinogenic acid).
Even with just playing the tapes as he initially receives them, you can sense he is restraining himself and fuming and I want to tell the real story... He cuts it off because that was bullshit. But fuming or not, Daniel wants this story, the truth, and even protects his source's identity when he tells his editor, he is in Russia.
Louis still doesn't address himself as the Vampire Louis (but later on in the finale, he addresses Armand as the Vampire Armand). Does that mean he hasn't fully accepted his identity? Or doesn't know who he is? Or wishes to go back to being human?
As soon as Louis points out his health concerns, Daniel uses his other hand to cover the one with tremor and immediately becomes defensive
Daniel: I know the Emirates are big on privacy and I know that's important to you, but I gotta ask, what does it cost, this haven't-aged-in-half-a-century-killer-views-in-all-directions anonymity?
Louis: Quite a lot
Well having met the Vampire Armand, I wonder what quite a lot meant.
Louis says his purpose of this do-over is "truth and reconciliation"
"Anything that can't be verified, I send to my researcher"
The moment Daniel says this, Rashid immediately stands up and says no third parties. Louis doesn't object to any of these terms. Why Rashid? And Daniel insists on a one-on-one
I love the way Lestat is introduced, lurking in a corner and stalking his prey, Louis.
It starts from a cat-and-mouse relationship and is still at that stage but I believe it would evolve into a cat-and-cat relationship.
I love the introduction of Lestat with the camera panning downwards up revealing his back showing us this is a character who may not totally reveal who he really is. And the camera pans to him looking at the Blue book as a horn diverts his attention and he gazes upon Louis dé Pointe du Lac riding proudly in his car like he owned the street and the camera focuses on his cane.
His initial attraction to Louis is when he sees him pull a knife with no hesitation, a primal instinct for the brother he loves. And as Louis said, you never know who is watching.
Louis' mom was a hypocrite closing her eyes to the nature of the family business while profiting from it and condemning her son and how she completely ignored Paul when he said Louis pulled a knife on him.
Everyone in his family judged Louis for something, at least Paul always said to his face
Louis and appearances, taking on masks for different occasions.
"My business and my raised religions were at odds, and the, uh...latencies within me, well, I beat those back with a lie I told myself about myself that I was a red-blooded son of the south, seeking ass before absolution"
Sadly, Louis hasn't stopped telling lies to himself about himself. He saw what he really wanted smiling and then put on his mask once again to follow his delusion. You know what they say tell yourself a lie repeatedly and maybe someday it will become truth.
It makes sense that Louis could separate the locals from those from other southern states. Because he had a reputation among the locals while the outsiders would stare wondering why this black man could walk into an exclusive white salon.
Lestat asks Louis if he speaks French like he didn't know before and didn't purposely raise his voice just at the right moment for Louis to hear him.
He goes after Lily, who has come to be somewhat a source of comfort and hiding place for Louis and I think she knows the truth about his sexuality and accepts him still. He receives a lot of judgment from home, from the streets, and everywhere. Lily represents his escape room where he can feel safe for a time. Lestat goes after Lily in this dangerous game piercing his core slowly.
That whole meeting was Lestat's lavish introduction to Louis, inserting himself into his safety net
This reminds me of this quote from Killing Eve
"She is a parasite, Eve. She gets into your brain, she eats you up to make space for herself like that book, uh with the hungry worm and all that food, pickles, tomatoes. The hungry Caterpillar? Yes. That's her burrowing in and creeping around."
, getting a rise out of Louis, banter, impressing him( getting the hardest table), emasculating him (speaking to his race, with Miss Lily)
"His gaze tied a string around my lungs, and I found myself immobilized."
"Emasculation and admiration in equal measure. I wanted to murder the man and I wanted to be the man."
When Louis speaks on his business strategy, he is enraptured as if under a spell, gazing upon him in awe and with the same breath enraged as to how Louis cannot see what he sees, how beautiful his whole self is. Lestat was mesmerized and in awe, as Louis broke down the business prospects.
The word "labour", is a condescending word to reduce Louis' contribution to insignificant and justify that even paying him a meagre sum is a kindness and he should receive it in appreciation with a thank you, sir. The audacity!
Paul represents us the audience in this scene, we are impressed and enraptured by his love for these books. We are finding out new information from this mysterious man and he is being vulnerable too. We empathize with him and the next minute swiftly turns to rage and you are confused, alarmed, and realize too late that you probably shouldn't have trusted him. And Sam Reid does a fantastic job of switching between those spectrums of emotions flawlessly.
"A pair of misfit beauties"
The sex scene is almost like a competition especially when both of them start removing their clothes and as soon as Miss Lily is out of the way, Louis makes the first move. And his body movements are with so much longing and like he wants to consume Lestat at the same time, a lot of friction/resistance there, and when Lestat clasps Louis' hands, brings them down as their muscles strain, it's like completely breaking down his defences and bringing him to ultimate surrender.
And as he adjusted his clothes the next morning looking into the mirror, he slipped on his mask with a hint of a smile on his face and reassured himself of his 'faux identity'.
I find it curious that Rashid shows up for the first time since the interview started when Louis is talking about the death of his brother, although one could say he just came to open the balcony.
Discombobulation of Louis. The guilt is borne out of his brother's death. Lestat's first comment is on the elegance of his brother's coffin and where he might be able to obtain one, after all, you know Lestat has fine tastes in everything.
Lestat immediately cleans the blood off his mouth as he removes his black cloak knowing that Louis is scared out of his mind at this point and he needs him to listen...

This World Can't Tear Me Down
Tumblr media

Stereotyping people, the impediment and consequences of raising our voices especially when it conflicts with work.
How do we talk to people who've been through an ordeal?
Do we even know them anymore?
How friends leave and how it's so mind-boggling to find one's purpose, to feel needed and to have some meaning to this thing called life.
And what do you do when it feels like you're not needed anymore?
People change, and their beliefs and values change and may shock you, especially with the previous image you had of them.
It's human, raw and it's life.

Alchemy Of Souls- The Finale
An Emotional Whirlwind
Tumblr media
We explore the concept of monsters. Are humans not the greatest monsters? The human vices of greed, the maddening desire for power, and stopping at nothing to claim it even if we are destroyed in the process.
Is power dangerous or is that determined by the nature of the one who wields it? Leadership Vs tyranny. For example, Jang Uk and Jin Mu. Jang Uk broke records in achieving the highest points of power and the ice stone power rebirthed him and filled him with even power. And yet, even in his grief, he continued to use the power to protect the people he loved and cared about. When you take a look at Jin Mu on the other hand, that at every turn was a tyrant through and through unleashing havoc on the innocent to feed his ego and placate his insecurities.
Nature Vs Nurture. Jang Uk while having a tragic background having lost his parents, and being constantly insulted initially for his lack of powers and "illegitimate" birth had people who showered him with love which he also received and they helped to ground him. And whenever he behaved badly or almost deviated, they brought him back. Jin Mu on the other hand with a tragic background too who was also shown love but refused it and instead preferred to remain paranoid, selfish, and greedy in his thirst for power.
I really loved how everything was tied up in the ending which I had been very anxious about. It turned out to be one of the most poignant, pleasing and satisfying conclusions to a story I've ever seen and didn't seem like fan service either. Hong Sisters said they would give us the happy ending we craved but we will work for it first, haha. I have to say every tear I shed as my heart was ripped out and my chest hurt was worth it and I'll do it all over again.
Every tragic moment was handled with care, and respect and rang true to the nature of the characters and their motivations that honestly if they had remained dead, my broken heart would have understood. It didn't seem like let's kill off some beloved characters so we can have a bunch of tragedies. The scene where Park Jin had to close the door out of responsibility to the people he vowed to protect while damning his wife to her inevitable death juxtaposed with remembering her love and reassurance in full support of this decision, was twisting the knife in my heart.
These people were members of high society and status with power and riches at their disposal and yet when it came to it, they were willing to lay down their lives in service to their people. Powers and riches aren't dangerous on their own, however they reveal who a person is. Lady Jin who gained my respect as she resolved to protect the dangerous relics to her last breath. And I did sympathize with her. There is a Yoruba saying that translates to a dead child as better than a lost child. This is not meant literally as both tragedies, I wouldn't wish on my enemy. It means a dead child, one knows the child is in the grave while with a lost child, one rests not knowing where or what condition the child is in. I'm glad she found some closure in the end with the revelation that Bu-yeon was reincarnated as Jin Seolran and she came to a place of acceptance and could finally show her second daughter the love and respect she had always deserved and craved from her mother.
Master Lee is a strategic chess player, always observing and taking notes. And I believe his being a soul shifter gave him the nuance that was needed to be able to see the whole situation clearly from a perspective that wasn't clouded by the prejudice against soul shifters (and rightfully so).
"Only the impossible can do the impossible" - Lestat
He had gone through an impossible experience (shifting souls without going wild) and could believe the impossible now from reincarnation to star-crossed lovers being happily together to resurrection, rebirth and more. I believe Jang Uk and Cho Yeong's decision to focus on doing what needed to be done to save their world and their marriage which Master Lee said was them declaring their love to the skies were key moments that must have touched Jin Seolran as she could relate to both instances through her personal experiences which may have played a part in her breathing life again into Cho Yeong.
Sacrifice in a time of uncertainty is a recurring theme that beats a drum throughout the finale from Maidservant Kim having to sacrifice her life to help Lady Jin to Lady Jin preventing the unleashing of dangerous relics to Park Jin having to sacrifice his wife to Jang Uk watching the love of his life he just reunited with slipping away and having to do what needs to be done at the same time to Bu-yeon/Jin Seolran that had to wait for years to save humanity before finally reuniting with her love. It sure shows what can be accomplished when a community of people who love the other person and have a common goal can do it. They are almost unstoppable.
This truly felt like a finale as the cinematography looked epic, especially in the scene of the final destruction of the firebird. It made sense that the Firebird will die at the lake where the sky, water, and ice met. And I love that it ended at the Lake Gyeongcheondaeho where it all began where Naksu had fought Songrim and Bu-yeon had discovered the ice stone before she was pushed to her 'death'. This was a beautiful full-circle moment and Cho Yeong was right there with Jang Uk albeit not physically present.
Jang Uk proved what I've always known about him when he gave the plaque to the  Crown Prince. He had never cared for seeking more power nor did he desire a political position. And I love when he told Jin Mu, he would see what it's like for someone with the power to gain even more power as he took control of the Firebird to which Jin Mu burst into a regretful and maniacal laugh in agreement as he burnt to a crisp, said the weak ones die. I found his death satisfying. He had suffered at the hands of Naksu although not as long as I would have liked and was consumed by the very power he had destroyed many lives for. I call it poetic justice.
I love that Naksu went by her birth name Cho Yeong. It signified her rebirth, redemption, her freedom from the shackles that had been placed on her, a new dawn with the love of her life, and her rediscovering and reclaiming who she really is and not the labels (murderer's daughter to assassin) people had tagged her with. She was finally shedding the masks she had been forced to wear and had to wear for survival sake and could finally be her true self both inward and outward. It was also her acknowledging her roots, heritage and the family that had brought her into this world. And I thought it was fitting that the very blade that had been a string on her when she was a puppet was now wielded by Jang Uk fully in control and with one primary purpose in mind to protect her with his life. She let go of Jang Uk as her pupil which was her saying there is only one thing I want you to be, my husband, partner, lover, protector. Naksu had been his master, and Cho Yeong is his wife in her true essence.
This is the power couple I had looked forward to seeing and more. And Jang Uk being her light & Cho Yeong being his shadow, I cannot think of a better symbolism. Even as Naksu/Mudeok, she was always with Jang Uk, loyal to the core and doing everything both possible and impossible to make sure all of his potentials was unleashed. She was the shadow that caused his light to spark, shine and have an impact. And from the first day he saw her beautiful blue eyes, just as light casts every shadow, he protected her (even when he had no powers yet), not allowing anyone else to see his shadow (her being a soul shifter). One could also say as Naksu/Mudeok, she was like a shadow of herself (stripped of her power/purpose, living in another's body), and in her journey with Jang Uk (light), she became her true self. As Bu-yeon, she had absorbed the wraiths (demons/darkness) around him which was the price he paid for being the bearer of the ice stone and warmed his cold body reigniting his light.
I love that Seo-Yul became a master and redefined the requirements to be a mage rather than being defined by the status quo now by passion, character, and good energy also leveraging Cho Yeong's inherited divine powers. In the end Naksu and So-i were wronged by the systems in place and never stood a chance so Seo-Yul overhauling the systems was the best way for him to honor So-i's memory, sacrifice & death and his love & friendship he had found with Naksu/Mudeok now Cho Yeong. Because maybe if So-i and Naksu had an opportunity like this and weren't used by people like Jin Mu all her life, they could have led a different trajectory in a life filled with love, purpose, and fulfillment. Cho-yeong would have never had to become Naksu and maybe her family would have never been ripped apart from her in the first place. It's a thing of immense joy to see that Cho-yeong now has the influence, powers and opportunity to contribute to such a worthy cause. It feels right.
The ending was perfect in every way as Cho Yeong's eyes lit up in blue and Jang Uk felt it and smiled. With her divine powers, she has the vision. She is still calling the shots and Jang Uk is more than happy to submit and do the job as he told her to stay close to him (as his shadow) while he took care of the cat.

Kim Bodnia

Kim Bodnia embodies his characters so perfectly in such a natural way from Konstantin in Killing Eve to Vesemir in The Witcher. I had been so hesitant to watch The Witcher because of the monsters as I'm such a scaredy-cat, but as soon as I saw that he was cast as Vesemir, I knew I had to suck it up and dive straight into this world. He just has that fatherly charm and amazing chemistry with his costars that is oh so perfect and the way he looks at and speaks so highly of them (Jodie Comer/Villanelle and Freya/Ciri) both onscreen and offscreen in interviews like a proud father just always warms my heart so much. You'll start wondering if he is their father in real life, so beautiful. I can tell the acting is from his experience as a father in real life, too good. He has such a beautiful and rich sense of humor and his energy is always such a vibe. I've been waiting for an interview of him with Henry Cavill/Geralt and I can't wait to see these two beautiful men in an interview. Also, I can't wait to see him once more as Konstantin in Killing Eve's final season!!!

I've always loved and adored Josh Horowitz's interviews. He has a way of getting the actors to relax and have fun. And his thoughtful and insightful questions always have a refreshing spin on them. This was so much fun and refreshing to watch. I laughed so much and their energy was so contagious. I love love love Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer soooo much!!!
Edit: I envisaged it might get deleted on YouTube due to copyright claims and I just got a message that it did. I've attached two links to the full video on Instagram and the patreon link to join.

P-Valley
I miss the valley already...
Video Credit: IG @pvalleystarz
Autumn was looking at Andre and his wife like she was about to kill someone with the lyrics.
Andre and his wife have both been wearing masks long before the pandemic. Andre was selling a lie, a fantasy he thought she wanted and she wanted to believe it instead of unveiling the man behind. Why did Andre wait all these years before being honest about his reasons for marrying his wife?
I loved the scene with Lil Murda in the fragmented glass and removing his gold teeth. It was an unveiling of his mask. We see the different men that make up Lil' Murda, the scared, the fearless, the famous, the one looking for validation and more. And he can choose which one to present at any given time.
And the variations of his memories flashing through his mind from his pride when he came to the Pynk to the first time he heard his song being played there and his entire journey to where he was now performing in the Pynk.
I remember when Keyshawn was helping him with overcoming his stage fright and told him to try performing nude and he was uncomfortable initially in season 1 episode 7.
"The same way you strip yourself naked on that track, you gotta strip yourself naked on the stage. See the crowd, that's who you are rapping to — now tell em' what you got to say."
But now, look who was performing shirtless and could look into the eyes of his audience saying the lyrics with confidence, no beat in the background. I love that scene because it really shows how he has evolved from the insecure rapper who wanted his beats to be good enough and now that they're slapping, he could just let the lyrics sink in even though that was also a testament of what he did and a threat to whom it may concern (Maine) in the audience.
And the whole scene came full circle with a collabo of the Mercedes Experience (the last show) and Lil' Murda when you remember their initial meeting of her disapproval to his bars to their reflection last episode and bringing that collaboration to life. They sure is fire!
The moment the beat dropped and Mercedes jumped down the pole straight to sitting and bouncing on the floor, damn!
I loved The Mayor Bishop Woodbine reveal. The way the scenes were edited, the montages from the performance at the club to Mayor Woodbine in some serious prayer sessions to Andre Watkins recieving a call from Wayne Kyle saying congratulations making it seem Andre won until we hear the reporter asking if he has heard from the Mayor Elect.
When Mayor Bishop Woodbine was doing environment inspection of the mayor's office and fell off the chair I was dying laughing.
I also loved the reveal of the Corbin deal with the front page news of the waterfront property deal coming to fruition. Corbin sure brought the water to him literally after all, he followed Uncle Clifford's advice. Uncle Clifford I see what you did there boo!
Keyshawn and Lil Murda hugging with the sunset lighting up their beautiful black skin under the clear blue skies. They've been through so much together. I wish she could have made it out. There was no investigation whatsoever. What happened to due process? So neighbors report a noise and automatically it's the black mom that's the abuser? Sigh... Derrick's got to go!
Someone needed to call out Autumn on all her shit. While she didn't force anyone to catch a body, still it was like she completely absolved herself and blamed them. Talking about interest after all them bodies, okay just one body but still.
I understand she ain't trusting, and she has a lot of trauma she is working through. I got where she was coming from business wise in regards to selling the club but as Uncle Clifford said, they was family and Pynk was home. I wish they could have come to a compromise though because I care about her character. You know what they say, hurting people hurt others. And say what you will, she made and took practical steps to help Keyshawn
Mayor Bishop finally did one thing right, handing Terricka over to Mercedes. It was fitting to see Mercedes finally in her gym and her baby with Sam Cooke Bring it on home to me. It was a breath of fresh air. Freedom at last! Old dreams were fulfilled and birthed the opportunity to dream new dreams.
Uncle Clifford letting Mercedes go reminds me of this quote.
"A good mentor hopes you will move on. A great mentor knows you will."- Ted Lasso
Sadly, in this finale, some people got their dreams and some didn't.

Goes back to what I always say, family by blood is overrated. Whoever is putting in the work, loving, caring about one is who I call family blood related or not. Ciri's father is trash. Yennefer's stepfather was trash. Geralt's mother, trash too. We don't know a lot about Jaskier's background but he has found a family too, they all have.
One thing I love about Geralt and Yennefer is they have this weird kind of trust but at the same time are fully aware of what the other is capable of. I call them the perfect ying-yang. They are not blinded by love. Their dynamic is one I enjoy and I'm particularly invested in.
The way Yennefer's face lights up at the unicorn scene as she says I'm a beacon of purity, really warmed my heart. It was like the world stood still for a moment. Her smile was soft, genuine, innocent, so bright it could light up a room, immaculately beautiful, and that split second of sheer joy and happiness, that comes from deep within before the guilt of what she was about to do crept right back. It was one of those moments you forget all the troubles you have been in and the ones about to come.
When Ciri asked Yennefer about Geralt and she goes on about longing, regret, hope, and fear, and Ciri is just like so you love him too.
Lilac and Gooseberries
Yennefer: How is this possible
Geralt: I don't care
When Geralt addressed her as dear friend, I laughed so much. And then he had the nerve to call Istredd her other dear friend, it was hilarious.
I think I got a bit of shyness as he introduced Yennefer to Ciri which was cute because Geralt is anything but shy.
It also reminded me of a scene in Killing Eve when Konstantin (also played by Kim Bodnia) was hitting the blender, saying all old friends together, sarcastically of course! Haha!
I loved how Ciri and Yennefer were introduced to each other, I think it was just perfect in explaining who exactly she was and what she meant to Geralt without words said.
Of course, she cared about her power. In such a violent world, there is no convenient time to lose one's powers at all.
I think it was interesting to see Yennefer try to cope without her powers not just in survival, but also in what it meant to her essence. And in the final moment as she slashed her wrists, even if she had died, she would have been satisfied because she had finally filled the void of a child with Ciri.
Yennefer is loyal to herself and the people she loves and that's what I love most about her. She understands the dynamics in the sense of how the different authorities are only out to use one until they are not of use anymore.
"Betrayal doesn't depend on how or how much you love someone. It depends on the magnitude of the dilemma before you."- Berlin in Money Heist
I do not condone Yennefer's intentions to sacrifice Ciri but I understood it.
Yennefer struggles with the feeling of not being enough which stems from her childhood trauma, abuse. Someone also pointed out the parallel between slashing her wrists in season one and season two and that broke my heart.
Four marks
I dreamed of becoming important to someone someday.
This is a woman who had given up on legacy, the hope of having a baby, life in the finale of season one. And even said if she died, that will be okay as she had lived multiple lifetimes to which Tissaia said her power could be her legacy.
Except she didn't die, and the one thing she had, chaos, which she described as her sight and a life force that makes one feel alive was gone too.

Sophie is trying to figure out the leadership dynamics with these people who are her family, friends, team members and home. Ultimately, wuth all these different layers in their relationship, she doesn't want to mess this up.
Hardison constantly belittles Breanna's achievements and meanwhile she keeps seeing from different perspectives and taking notice of some things that Hardison doesn't with his tons of experience. He needed to trust in her abilities. It's the delicate balance between the fear of losing one's relevance and influence which isn't a bad thing. But to also remember, that even the mentees would become mentors at some point and that doesn't mean one's influence has reduced, rather it has expanded. Think of it as birthing another leader.
"Look, Bree, I'm used to showing you the way, not you showing me. So I'm sorry, really"
Are we capable of change?
"And how does that help Dee Dee now? This team can't solve the world's bigger problems. We're just... we're not built for it. What we can do is help one person and then the next, and then the next, and then we look back, and you see how much you've changed. It's baby steps, Breanna"
Sometimes, it just feels like no matter what you do and even when one reaches a peak so to speak, there is still that gnawing feeling that you're not doing enough.
"Because you can't dwell on the past. You have to keep moving forward. But sometimes when you look back, you see how much you've changed. Baby steps, Sophie, baby steps."
I think the past is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can try convince us we haven't changed in the form of old friends and acquaintances tugging on our guilt strings or like Breanna said we can reflect and evaluate how much we've changed.

The journey of a friendship spanning across decades, it's highs, lows and death. It's so personal and intimate.
Who is that first person you want to call when you receive a good news that will celebrate as if it were theirs?
Who is that first person you want to break a bad news to?
And what do you do when that friendship is broken and all you have are the memories?
What do you do when you're not needed anymore and a part of you is cut?
Who is that friend that is home to you?
The ending had me screaming and crying in deep anguish.
