Pallide Streghe d'Autunno by Nicola Lombardi
Tumblr media
I recently decided to try to read short stories to see if they can get me back into reading. I used to love them, so why not?
Pallide Streghe d'Autunno by Nicola Lombardi has been on my shelves since 2017, so it made sense that I'd start from it.
It was previously published in English in a shorter version, and the author rewrote it completely to be published in Italian in the Collana Miskatonic (rip) for Vincent Books.
It follows Alex and Claudia, who are working on a video project inspired by Alex's thesis on the Pallide Streghe d'autunno (Pale Witches of Fall).
I really enjoyed the author's writing style. The story is told through the lenses of a camera, which reminds everyone of the Blaire Witch Project (which I still need to watch...) and it was such a different thing for me that it kept me hooked - the way the author used the colors of the environment snd the time of day to enhance the story was really cool. The story itself was pretty cool as well; I love horror, and I love horror even more when it's set in Italy, my country LOL it has something... More personal, I guess. I'm not sure why I never touched this story before, but now I regret I didn't do so earlier. Better later than never, I guess. I hope I can find more of the author's books soon to read, although my TBR is quite... Huge

How about in 2024 we stop it with reading books with the goal in mind to finish the book so you can add it to your list of read books and start reading books slowly and intentionally with the goal to rip it into pieces with your mind and be touched by it and formed by it and changed by it

another cool thing is when you devour a book over the course of a handful of hours and it fucks you up and you just have to lie on the couch feeling like your brain went swimming for too long & only just came up from under the water. art is so good

“For most people, what is so painful about reading is that you read something and you don’t have anybody to share it with. In part what the book club opens up is that people can read a book and then have someone else to talk about it with. Then they see that a book can lead to the pleasure of conversation, that the solitary act of reading can actually be a part of the path to communion and community” ― Bell Hooks.

I read some while waiting at the dentist. I finished chapter 1 and started the 2nd - took this pic when I started reading.
So far I'm liking it, but it's a bit slow - which is normal. We'll see 👀👀
