i think this might be my favorite hazel scene because of how it recontextualizes all her other flashbacks. after three horrible ones after each other, there's finally one where things went right, in the beginning. its the beginning of the end but hazel doesn't know that its all going to go wrong. she's just sitting with her mom in the park and watching the sun come up.
#context for this: hazel was seven and had just found a diamond so they were celebrating. it's her last flashback in son of neptune#hazel's inner life and the things she remembers and notices and the things she holds onto...aughghghghghgh#its why she loved being alive despite how bad everything got#and gaea knowing this about her. because gaea's also a mother#unrelated but her mom daydrinking to celebrate is kind of iconic. she was having a mimosa#hazel levesque

"Y'know, when I first got to Camp I was so excited to meet people who were like me, who would get it. Just one person." There was a small silence for him to compose himself. "But when I asked about it they told me a story about a guy who burned down half of London, and said it's rare and dangerous." Leo wiped his tears.
"Then I met dad and I thought he would at least understand but..." Frank heard his voice on the verge of cracking.
"Then you came along. I learned about that fire piece and knew it was a curse. And then I died in it. Thought I could...." He sobbed.
"Hey."
"I wanted to know how mom felt." He cried and Frank stopped for a second.
"Come here." Frank said opening his arms. Leo gladly leaned into him crying into his chest.
"I hate it." He cried. "It ruined everything."
"I know." Frank wanted to say more but he knew that's not what he needed right now. He needed a physical reminder that he was here. And he wasn't going anywhere.

wild west valzhang au
i promised i would do this if my post got 5 likes so here you go. please note that every single character in this au has a southern accent so please imagine scenarios accordingly
frank is a bounty hunter/assassin and leo is a thief/robber. they’re rivals but they’re also both outlaws who run from the sheriff (annabeth) together.
they became rivals when leo stole from one of frank’s targets, ruining his plan. at first frank is like “whatever its fine” but leo proceeds to do it enough times completely out of coincidence (or so he claims) that frank starts to have a vendetta. of course frank claims he hates leo because damn it that stupid little shit keeps ruining his bounties! he’s gonna starve at this rate! but whenever they get in trouble frank will save him anyway. wonder why
they’re like the iconic criminals of whatever dinky little town they’re in - frank the hired gun and leo the famed train robber. leo takes extreme amounts of joy from one-upping frank but will also constantly joke about teaming up as a real duo because having a partner in crime would be so cool, wouldn’t it? of course, they deal in different crimes and jobs, so it wouldn’t work out… but wouldn’t it be nice to go on adventures with someone else for a change?
someday leo gets blackmailed into turning frank in. he was tricked, of course, but when he watches his longtime rival and kind-of-friend get put in cuffs he can’t help but feel that it doesn’t matter. because what’s done is done, and he’s gone back to being the scared kid he once was, running away from those he loves to save himself. and frank feels so betrayed because damn it they may have fought but he never thought leo would go this far. and he thinks that it’s true what they say about the thief who cares more about machines than people
leo comes back for him of course! but their rivalry isn’t the same. what used to be playful turns serious because frank cant help but wonder whether leo will do that to him again, for the sake of a bunch of gadgets.
maybe as a show of apology leo decides to quit thievery and being frank’s rival as a whole… he’ll say that they’ll work together, if frank wants that, so at least if they get put in gay baby murder jail they’ll be in there together? and he’s never been one for fighting but if he ever needs a sniper, he’s real good with a rifle?
frank pretends like he needs to think about it and accepts the offer. and then they become outlaw boyfriends. and whenever annabeth hears about them someway or another, through word of mouth or newspapers, she gives an affectionate snort and swears she’s gonna catch them someday.

The Christmas/New Year au is finally complete!! (Me saying this as if I'm not writing the epilogue) and I had so much fun writing this, really, writing Leo's pov was so interesting and fun I should probably do it more often. Anyway, I hope you guys like it ❤
Frank avoided eye contact, which might have been a good thing, because Leo didn't like having anyone's eyes on him. Except that now he seemed to be counting each and every Cesium atom that absorbed microwaves with a frequency of 9,192,631,770 cycles— which was the duration of that single second when Frank's eyes lingered on him.
Or,
Leo was going through the worst kind of break-up of all, the kind when you've spent years in a relationship alone. So swapping houses with a complete stranger with a mansion in Los Angeles seemed like the best idea of all, no matter how much of a scam the whole thing seemed because it was too good to be true. Or so Leo thought, until one of the house owner's friends showed up wanting to call the police on him.
