Media literacy can be considered as the method of getting to, basically analyzing media messages, and making messages using media tools. A lot of individuals see that media literacy encourages understanding of communication innovation, the message code, message created, message determination, elucidation, and effect of the message on the receiver. Furthermore, media literacy can get to be exceptionally critical, as by now it could be a set of perspectives to interpret the meaning of the mediated messages so that it can give clues about how to treat the media in the setting of this paper, this refers to the online social media. One must know how to find, analyze, and use the information that you garnered. It is also important that a person knows technology to find relevance of the information one has found and one must know if the information they found is relevant.  In this era, finding relevant information is hard because of misinformation or fake news. This is why people should be information literate when it comes to this social era. Finding ideas through the internet might be easy but there is also lots of misinformation, fake news, and satire that you can encounter.

Citizens typically have a perspective on the success of social media and the high levels of participation allow for public debate on how governments work and the policies they initiate or implement. Government, its agencies, and organizations also have recognized how impactful this medium can be for interacting with citizens for soliciting feedback, raising awareness about various initiatives, constructing a participatory governance system, and so forth. These issues, and some choose to express theirs through various mediums such as news and print media, public polls, rallies, petitions, and, increasingly, social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. As people on social media, we are all aware that we spend a lot of time, if any, seeking to determine whether a well-known news outlet's website is genuine or not. Our relying on everything we find on the web makes it more vulnerable to such fraud, and our ignorance provides a window of opportunity for governments to manipulate information to influence the public's perception.
Through the media, politics gain more advantage. With the use of social media, politics can take advantage of this and use it for many different reasons. The use of social media in politics refers to the use of online social media platforms in political processes and activities. Social media platforms include Facebook, YouTube, WeChat, Instagram, Quora, QQ, Zone, Weibo, Twitter, Tumblr, Tiktok, Reddit, Baidu Post Bar, LinkedIn, LINE, Snapchat, Pinterest, Viber, and VK. Political processes and activities include all activities related to the governance of a country or region. This includes political organizations, global politics, political corruption, political parties, and political values. The Internet has created communication channels that play a key role in news dissemination. Social networks not only have the ability to change news, but also have the ability to change the dynamics of political corruption, values ​​and political conflicts. Through the electoral process, global conflicts and extreme politics with the use of social media in China, diplomacy around the world has become less private and susceptible to public perception. With the use of social media, political candidates can also use these platforms to gain more votes in their upcoming election for politicians. Social media is a very helpful tool in many ways. It helped politics as well in many different ways.

The Value of Being a Media and Information Literate Individual
The value of being a media and information literate individual is very important especially these days since we are living in the 21st century. Nowadays, there is a rapid development of technologies like the production of new and advanced computers, cellphones, radio, and television which are all used for communication. Being literate in media and information will give us the advantage in this modern world and that’s why we have to take advantage of it. Media and information literacy empowers us people in terms of having the ability to solve problems in school, work, and everywhere. For example, in making a research paper, being literate in media and information makes the process of making it easier. There are lots of other more advantages like being more advanced than other countries. A country with citizens who are literate in media and information develops more quickly than those countries who are still stuck in traditional ways like using libraries to browse for information. 
Media and information literacy (MIL) is considered important because it provides the citizens the ability to fully benefit from the use of information channels and media. Its purpose is to have people engage in digital society and to be able to use it to their advantage, for example to communicate. Schools like Liceo de Cagayan University include MIL to their class because they know that the Senior Highschool students would benefit from it. The benefit includes improved access to information, advanced learning, and more cohesive learning units. It is important not just to students but to everyone because it assists them when they ask questions, seek answers, find information, etc. With the use of modern-day technologies, searching and sending information is made easier. There’s no need to go to the library yourself because you can just ask google about it and in this way, you benefit by learning more in life.
