Understanding the Relevance of Information Literacy in the Midst of Social Era
As we are being overloaded with information in our daily life, we must ensure that whatever information we feed our brains, they are all factual and not established on baseless assumptions. Information literacy basically tells you that you must have the ability to know when valid information is needed. And if practiced well by everyone, we will be able to have a well-informed community since you’ll also learn how to evaluate information and analyze them properly. This is a must have since we all know that social media platforms are rising at a steady pace ever since the 21st century started. Thus, we must all fend ourselves from the information pollution that’s currently happening and always asking the question if what we’re reading or seeing are backed with factual evidence or have been reviewed thoroughly. That being said, preventing it is still a hard thing to do. Satire content. That’s one of the most common type of content where people get easily fooled by fictitious news, even the young ones are being fooled. One good example of this was the viral news that Barbie Forteza broke up with his boyfriend after forgetting their monthsary. It was posted by a satire page imitating a news outlet “Inquirer.net,” this shows that a lot of people are getting fooled or just going with the joke. But the spread of this would have been easy, just by simply questioning yourself if it came from a trusted news source or if it would be a good idea to share it. This is where information literacy is deeply needed since it makes us all question something and find answers. Additionally, it makes us look for the source. Clearly, a lot of people needs to be fed with knowledge about managing information in order to be better.

Media and Government: A Love-Hate Relationship
Ahhh yes. The media, it sends information for the people. But how real are the news that are being delivered to the people? Is the news we’re seeing being controlled by someone at the higher table? Or perhaps the question should be if the news is being served as half-truth? As common knowledge, there are a lot of news source nowadays. And not all of them serve the news the same way, it’s very obvious that some are adding more salt, like they’re biased against something, or maybe someone, and some play it safe, not adding any seasonings and delivering the news as it is, no exaggeration, just plain truth, lastly, there are the ones that serve the dish incompletely, cutting off just enough information for it to be considered as true and not getting cancelled on twitter. Due to this, the people are the ones getting most of the impact. We look at news every single day, and that dictates what our actions should be, one example would be this pandemic, we were able to act accordingly because the news told us so, now, what would happen to us, the taumbayan, if we’re given some terrible news? But, we need not to worry, since the people at the higher table will set things right… right? Every 6 years, campaigns would air on the television for the different candidates for our government. But why? Why would the media be lowkey attacked by the higher table? Has the council decided the fate of media? Hopefully, no. The year 2020 has been a hot potato for everyone, and the tranquil state of the media has been disrupted. A major news outlet has been attacked and unfortunately, they lost. And another victim in a different news outlet. All of these are blows are bitter for the media freedom, and they came from the higher table. If this continues, this would significantly impact how the taumbayan would act. If information would be would be manipulated from the higher ones, then people will eat rotten information without their knowledge.
