the outrage that inevitably occurs seemingly every single time a new AAA game is announced starts to somewhat make more sense once you fully acknowledge that you aren’t arguing with men that are simply racist or misogynistic or transphobic. it is a genuine subsection of online men that truly do believe that video games are the sole domain of straight white guys, on both the developer and consumer side, and that things have always been that way. And any hint of something in a game that is contrary to that (like simply catering to a different audience or featuring a Woman in any way that isn’t for softcore porn) is an incursion from outside forces seeking to destroy the last bastion that straight white guys have in society. there are the grifters who are just profiting off of this outrage, but the community they profit off of by and large wholeheartedly believes that and that’s why it’s not possible to convince them otherwise
