OOC Yup, it sure is a terrific show. Re: #3: Quite a few characters were just casually not white. Our favourite dispatcher Winnie Camden (aka Spike’s crush) wasn’t white; the guy Donna married--Hank Gerald--was (amazingly) not white. Jackie, the lady who was supportive of Tasha in Attention Shoppers was oh-so-casually not white. Those are the top three that come to mind when I think of how easy it would have been to just cast Caucasian actors for those roles. So even though they killed poor Lou, and Leah was under-utilized, this show didn’t do a half-bad job with diversity.

Can't stop rambling about Flashpoint

1. Ugh cam we just talk about the wedding? it was so adorbs and lighthearted and natural. none of that momentous solemn shit that American shows keep on heaping up. it’s like a breath of fresh air that some things are still right in the world.

2. The macho, head of tacticals team leader. Going to therapy. Breaks down after killing people posing a legit danger - gun out, safety off, pointed at people after already having shot before. Like a super macho dude who goes to therapy and breaks down and let it heal him.

3. the therapist is not white. Nothing special about it. Her dad’s police. So she’s just casually not white.

4. Haitian black lady on the team. Her family is in Haiti, and she’s a member of the team. And she speaks without any accent. She was also am firefighter at some point.

Blarg.

This show is terrific.

Minor Confession

OOC It makes me sad when people forget that Donna was also part of Team One. They’ll mention former team members like Wordy and Raf, and they’ll mention deceased team members like Lou, but they’ll forget to include Donna when listing Flashpoint Team One characters. Le sigh.

Cowardly Reviewers Make Me Angry

Oh, look at you, big, bad "Guest" reviewer, blowing your flames all over a newbie writer's piece of fanfiction. You know what disgusts me more than a possible Mary Sue character fic? When someone craps all over it anonymously.

You know what? If you're going to review the poor author's work, have the stones to use your ID.

So while I may not want to give possible Mary Sue character fics the time of day, that sort of rotten behavior makes me want to read it and comment, just to balance the soul-crushing and unwarranted "critique". Honestly, if you don't got nothin' nice to say, don't say nothin' at all! If there's nothing of merit, leave in silence.

Mary Sue Blues

[OOC] Poor little newbie fic writer. My dear, you don't tell your readers right in the summary that: A) "it's better than it sounds" Or B) "the character is based on myself" Especially if said character is the heretofore unknown progeny of a main character. Sorry to tell you. But you need to learn what a "Mary Sue" is before you do such things. Don't stop writing, mind you; just make sure you avoid the pratfalls, otherwise the flames will rain down on your poor, tender head.

OK here it is, the sexy/badass watch Amy Jo Johnson sent me! She wore this actual one on the set of Flashpoint as Julianna ‘Jules’ Callaghan. This is honestly one of the most amazing things to happen to me as a fangirl, and as a human being. I will literally never get over this.

Yes, I’m right handed and wear my watch on my right arm. But she’s left handed and wore her’s on her left. ;) The place I have it buckled is where she wore it, I have to wear it one notch bigger. The band is crazy short, we both have small wrists! The glow picture isn’t the best, it’s actually much brighter and more purple than it looks there. Donna... That woman could have done well anywhere on the Force. We were lucky to have her with the SRU. She did her job keeping the peace day-in and day-out for 21 years. She is missed dearly. (Excuse me while I go cry a little, because it's still hard to think about that day even though it's been almost two years...)

Remember Flashpoint?

Like how they had Ed dress up in formalwear and badass basically on an annual basis.

How Ed and Donna went from zero to brotp in no time at all until she was needling him and calling him “Edward” and he gave her away at her wedding because they are both such sad lifer cops that Donna’s more a sibling to Ed than his actual brother is.

And Donna moved up the ranks FASTER THAN ED OR SAM even though she was warned there wasn’t much room for promotion when she signed on

How Donna’s S5 character arc situates her in this totally clasically male narrative and lets us have a story where her husband is a civilian who’s so out of his depth when violence comes to his door but he loves Donna and he thinks she’s strong and amazing and a hero so he’ll be brave and love her anyway, and she is cool, collected, authoritative, and calm in her wedding dress and bloodstained hands.
