The voice of another person startled Alvina out of her little shuffle through her papers. Standing up straight quickly and causing a few to scatter, she placed one hand over her mouth as she inhaled sharply – causing a little gaps of surprise to sound. Oh dear! Was this the boy? What a first impression she was making. Hopefully that wouldn't frighten him away or make him think of her as... well, an ineffective nurse or an unfit one.
“Ah- I – uh no! Now is fine! Actually right now is absolutely perfect! Sorry about this mess erm – Seth, right? Actually, this whole mess was me trying to figure out where I noted down the time I asked you to come! I fear I'm just a tad forgetful... don't let that deter you though! Everything that needs to get donw definitely does!” She walked around the desk as she spoke, approaching the young man. He looked...well, average for the most part. He had a kind smile more than anything, and that made her feel good – to feel at ease.
“So, I heard that you were wanting to be an assistant here in the clinic? Orrrr....was I wrong?”
Assistance || Seth + Alvina
Seth had gently pushed the door open, though he’d heard the shuffling of papers and quiet muttering even before he’d opened it. He wasn’t sure whether or not to be concerned, though as he pushed the door open, he saw a woman looking through a disorganized stack of papers. A faint hint of a smile tugged at the corner of his lips, despite himself. It wasn’t a condescending type smile by any means, just one of amusement. It almost reminded him of…well, his younger self, honestly. Was that rude? He wasn’t sure. Oh well.
"Do you need some help with something, or should I come back later?" he asked, his tone neutral but not deadpan as he briefly looked around the office, taking the sights in. He was always intrigued by new places, even if they weren’t remarkable or particularly interesting by most standards. A few seconds went by as he scanned the room. Window, light, papers, computer, person…a few seconds of analyzing and he could probably navigate this room blind. A memory such as his had its advantages. Disadvantages, too, but he tried not to think about that.

Assistance || Seth + Alvina
The influx of new students coming in was both daunting and exciting. The immortal woman who called herself a healer – and now a school nurse – was eager to meet the new students and had even received word that there was one who expressed interest in becoming her aide. She had sent them a note asking them to come to her office – but she had forgotten what time she had listed and now restlessly rifled through papers on her desk. Maybe she had written a note of the time somewhere around here? She was not sure; her organization was quite a bit flawed and her mind so scattered.
“Aaaah, darn.” She murmered, not even noticing the door as it opened up to reveal the student in question. “Darn! I need to be more organized...”

Yes!
She had hurt her!
Alvina's immediate expression changed to one of absolute fear and upset – only to disappear into earnest realization when the girl she had run into corrected herself on being hurt. Woops! It seemed like the both of them were off in their own worlds there. She gave a small giggle even, waving a hand slightly as the black-haired girl shuffled back under the shade. “Oh! I'm glad you're not hurt. It's all okay, it's all okay! I think such things happen at times! We bother weren't really paying attention, so... I suppose it was unavoidable!” She gave another small laugh to end her words.
“...are you a student here?”
Oh! Oh! Yet another person had mistaken her as a student here? It was always so bizarre to hear that said – Alvina had rarely been mistaken as a child where she was from, and now that she was here it was constant! Oh well... different cultures perhaps? Maybe the lack of people who were part nonhuman? Was that a possibility?
The ageless woman doubted she would ever fully understand.
Tumblr media
“Oh...no, I'm not a student here.” She grasped one of her hands in the other and tilted her head slightly, casting her eyes off to the side. “I'm actually the nurse. But it's okay! Everybody seems to mistake me for a student... I guess I look a bit too young, right?” To be fair, she realized she acted a bit young as well. That was something she did as she found it made her a bit more approachable, a bit more in the way of easily trusted.
And trust was hard to earn, so very hard to earn.
“My name is Alvina. Even though I might be faculty, you don't have to worry about calling me Miss or anything... I just like my name as it is. And I can already tell that you would never mean any disrespect towards me. You can keep your chin up with me!” As thought o emphasize her point, she placed her pointer finger against the bottom of her chin, shooting the brightest smile she could manage.
But wait – if the girl did not recognize her it was likely that she was new, or had never been ill enough to go into the clinic. The binder in her hands seemed to point more towards the former of the two, so that would be what the nurse would assume. Taking half a pace forward, Alvina softened her large smile to a friendlier, gentler one. “...That's a new student orientation binder, isn't it? You've gotta be brand new then, huh?”
Unofficial Welcome || Ayano + Alvina
As morning passed, the mid-day was much hotter than she expected. It was oddly reminiscent, bringing back different memories that placed a smile on her face despite not all of them were pleasant ones. After her eventful enrollment into the private academy Ayano could finally step from the building, lifting the heavy pressure on her shoulders that the academy seemed to give her.
The sun had been the next thing to greet her, so Ayano ducked under a large tree for shade. Loosening her scarf, she looked over the binder and many documents inside - it was what she had received after filling out a form to enroll. There were sheets upon sheets of paper in it and the writing so small that it made her head spin. Insurance? Consent forms? Timetable preferences? Possible entry exam?
Tumblr media
Wait, does that mean she hasn’t officially gotten into the academy yet? And these were forms she needed to fill in and sign before she could get a roof under her head? Was there anything about money? She wouldn’t have any money on her—-!?
Hanging her head in defeat with a short helpless laugh, Ayano closed the binder so she didn’t have to stare at it any longer. Pushing herself to her feet again, she had decided to go back into the terrifying building to request help with the papers. And in her turmoil, Ayano had failed to notice the orange haired girl who stumbled her way, bumping into her side, making Ayano stumble just out of the shade that the tree was offering.
The question that the other girl asked was something similar to what had been on the tip of Ayano’s tongue, but she was bested to it. “Yes - I mean, no — I uh, I’m fine! Sorry, I was zoning out and didn’t see you coming towards me,” Ayano hurried to assure her she was fine, rather ineffectively.
She took a step to be under the shade again, bowing her head politely. “I’m Tateyama Ayano, are you a student here…?”

It always brought Alvina joy to find a person who felt concern over another, who wanted to keep them away from wasted time. Even though it was common enough in people, she loved every small sign of kindness that anybody dared to show – for it was harder and occasionally frightening to even show the smallest bit of 'weakness' or gentleness to another.
The red-headed woman shook her head vigorously. “No-no! I'm not doing anything important. Really I'm just out and about for a walk! It is a rather nice day and I thought it might be nice to just move...” To feel the life within the city as the people moved about. That was what she wanted – even if she spoke to none of them, even if she could not say a word...it was something to see them move about. To be reminded that people existed, even if they could be cold.
There were always good things. She was always certain of that. She always believed in that. And today had been lucky – she found another person, another person who she had helped, who she was speaking to...
Tumblr media
“I would be very happy to walk with you till you get to your dorm! I couldn't leave you in good conscious either, in case something starts acting up again...” She brought her hand up to her lips and pressed one finger to them, almost as though she were thoughtful. “...Yeah. Besides, I think a little bit of conversation is always very nice. Right?”
Walking Trouble || Alvina and Rieka
"I should never do track like that again." She breathed, taking a deep breath before exhaling it. Being unable to breathe like that was a horror upon itself, and something she really hated to have happen. It seemed as if there was really no end to it. At least, if push came to shove, she wouldn’t have to run in the track meet a few weeks from now.
Tumblr media
"It was a good thing. I would be in the hospital right now otherwise." She didn’t give details as to why or how, but she just knew if this girl hadn’t come out of nowhere and gave her her inhaler. It was like someone had sent her to the raven-haired woman, who stared for a moment before averting her eyes.
"I’ll be okay.. The dorms aren’t too far from here. A-anyway, I don’t want to put you out of your way.."

The Sun of Judgement || Open
The young woman held her hand up to the light of the sun, closing her fingers to block it out from her eyes. The light seeped around her skin, staining it red with the reflections of the pigments within. She sighed, letting her arm fall back to her side and turning her head down. The sun was such a marvelous thing, such a needed thing, giving life and warmth to everything – but it was also akin to a watchful eye that would bring judgment down upon others.
Judgment, which was something that she knew would be hers one day, and she would not be able to avoid it. For all the good actions she gave, she had to struggle against her own old sins – and to kill another being, even if they had died once before, was unforgivable.
Alvina felt that the sun could never be hers again – at least in full. It was something so pure, something that did not take. Once she had made the step to take something so precious and important, she could not hope to belong to a world of light. With hands that may have been visibly cleared of blood, she struggled to wipe the hidden traces away in the process of giving many things.
Even if it should be her own life.
Which was, in an essence, what healing was. It was sacrificing your own life and time for others – to make them better. It was even more true of magical healing – something she chose to avoid if not in the most dire of circumstances. To heal with magic, one had to take life from the surroundings. Alvina refused to take life from anything but herself, be it a plant or an insect. It was not hers to give.
Somewhere in front of her, a bird called loudly to the air. Startled, she emitted a small cry and stumbled backwards, her arms flung out to the side. Looking forward she found the source of the bird's distress – a person had moved below its perch, disturbing it. She hurried forward towards them, wanting to see if they required any aid.
“Good day!”

That Which is Golden || Lieli Open
If good things were golden, then this campus was too – at least where a physical level was concerned. It was a delightful sight – old brick faced buildings and well-kept gardens. Carefully landscaped yards with uncluttered, safe paths. Lights to keep it safely lit. Benches to rest on...
The whole campus was almost like a park, and Alvina was happy to see the students seemed to enjoy it as well. Though they complained to their friends, to her, to the air, of their studies, they seemed to enjoy the community – something that brought warmth to her. Where she had once lived, there had rarely been such a bond between those who lived in the same place. Her home village and the place she had moved with her late fiance had been open, yes, but anywhere she traveled beyond them it had not been so. There, passerbys and strangers were not welcome, and the people closed themselves off into small circles, speaking little to them.
She laughed softly to herself as she watched two students race one another across the lawns from the window of her clinic. Today had been wonderfully, miraculously slow, and though she was lonely and a bit bored without company to speak to, she was pleased that everyone seemed to be in good health.
Only, nothing golden was left to last either. Her door opened and she heard the shuffling feet of a student as the slunk into her room. Turning about to look at them with concern, she lifted her voice once she looked them in the face. “What seems to be the matter dear?”

Unofficial Welcome || Ayano + Alvina
It was her break time, and that was a good thing. The air was mild today, and to walk along the path made Alvina feel more like part of the world. That was something her grandmother had really pounded into her when she was a child living in her little village. Her grandmother’s people had lived among the trees and been part of the world around them as though they were inseparable. She had been told once that the children were referred to as ‘saplings’ in that dead language, with just an added sound at the end that told they were referring to a person, not a plant.
Feeling a rush of life within her, Alvina suddenly darted out and hopped into the grass, rolling around on it before shutting her eyes with her face to the sun. She knew it was odd and unprofessional for an administrator of the school to do such a thing, but there were no rules against it and she strongly believed that to help the students she had to be as open as she could with them.
Eyes still closed, Alvina rolled and stood up, spinning about on one foot and going slightly off balance. Stumbling sideways, she ran into a person she did not know was there.
Which she should have, to be honest. Shutting one’s eyes and trying to walk did not mesh well, and she should have known something like this would happen.
“Oh! I’m sorry! Did I hurt you?”

Oh no! He had seen her crying. Her cheeks touched pink with embarrassment, she shook her head quickly, taking the offered tissue and wringing it in her hands – though that really didn’t do anything. “I-I’m fine really.” She began, “Sometimes I think about things that I really enjoy and get a bit teary-eyed. It’s silly, I know, but I’ve been like this since I was a child.”
Finally composed, Alvina bowed her head to the shy librarian. “Thanks for dealing with me though. But…um, while I’m here…”
She placed her hands on the desk, fingers splayed, and leaned slightly forward. “I don’t think I’ve actually met you face to face before? You weren’t the one who checked out the book and…you’ve never come to the clinic. Which is a good thing!” She lifted one of her hands to point a finger in the air. “It means that you’re healthy, and that’s good! Right? You’re just not hiding when you feel bad, right?”

The delivery man’s hands were creaking. Or rather, the gloves were creaking as he opened and closed them again and again. The nurse blinked a few times at him, trying to register what it was that could have possibly made him so nervous. It wasn’t her, right? It couldn’t be her? Alvina bit her lower lip as she thought about it…
Oh right, this was a clinic. A lot of people were uncomfortable with doctors and the like.
“U…um.” She spoke up again, taking an awkward half-step towards him. “I know that this isn’t a really wonderful place…that clinics don’t have nice connotations, but I’m not here to hurt people.” She placed her hand over her chest now, recalling her past experiences. “I know that there are some doctors and healers who really are fundamentally selfish…who want to forward themselves by…immoral tactics. I’ve met those kinds of people…” The devil Kyn, with his obsession and his needles. Verity as well…
Tumblr media
The man still seemed unaware of her speaking, and she took another step towards him, this time a full step so that she was standing close. “…Mister.”
She reached her hand out and touched his arm lightly.
Tumbles || Cloud + Alvina
Cloud blinked as the nurse jumped out of her seat as he opened the door to the infirmary. Had she been spacing out or just thinking too much? He moved into the room and shut the door quietly, setting the package on the woman’s desk.
"I think th’ school ordered it. New bandages and things." He said quietly. Infirmaries made him uncomfortable. They reminded him too much of Hojo and the experiments run on the Soldiers and those thoughts made his arm ache dully.
The blond felt awkward as he glanced around the room, gloved hands clenching and unclenching, making the leather creak slightly. He didn’t register any conversation going on, too lost in his thoughts of the past and the awkward and uncomfortable feelings that came with it.

Alvina placed one hand over her mouth, nibbling lightly on the sleeve while she watched the person in front of her take a couple of puffs from the inhaler. Even though it was now safe in their hands, she still worried that the medicine would not help and things would get worse – a somewhat silly thought, but a worry she allowed even still.
Relaxing when the young woman was able to offer her verbal thanks, Alvina removed her hand from her mouth and nodded once, firmly, as though she were accepting a huge compliment. Which, to her, thanks was – it was a sign she had done something right, something good, and she could feel well about that.
“Of course!” she chirped, followed by a more earnest statement. “To be honest I was walking behind you for a little while…you seemed to be having trouble so I got a bit worried and decided to come closer and maybe offer some help. I guess it’s a good thing too…” She blushed slightly, aware that it was a rather odd thing to follow closely behind a stranger on the streets in the middle of the day.
Tumblr media
“…Um, do you think that is enough though? Are you feeling unsteady still? I’ll walk you home if you wouldn’t mind…”
Walking Trouble || Alvina and Rieka
She’d think she was going to die. Today, her lungs weren’t working right at all and it was getting more and more difficult to breathe. Damn the stupid track team setting her to run laps with the rest. She had a doctor’s note saying she couldn’t run due to her lungs.
Her lungs burned as she continued trying to catch her breath, lest she have an asthma attack. Walking was a chore as her legs hurt too from all that running. She couldn’t take it much more and dug in her pocket for her inhaler, dropping it as her vision flickered suddenly.
Tumblr media
She’d swayed a little while going to get it before someone else did, holding it out to her. With a couple of nods, not wishing to speak under this condition, Rieka shook the inhaler after opening it and quickly hit twice, breathing in the medicine as deeply as possible before holding her breath for ten seconds, putting the inhaler away. Letting out a slow breath, she shook her head a bit to focus her sight and look at the person in front of her.
”..Thank you..”
