bubbie   is   the   person   who   yasmin   views   as   her   mother   .   she’s   the   person   who   has   taken   care   of   her   for   her   whole   life   ;   the   confidant   who   saved   her   from   the   cruelty   of   yasmin’s   coven   and   parents   .   since   the   age   of   four   ,   yasmin   has   been   in   her   care   and   has   loved   every   moment   of   it   .   bubbie   was   the   person   who   had   been   by   her   side   for   every   milestone   ,   every   up   and   every   down   and   its   a   deep   appreciation   that   she’ll   always   be   grateful   for   .   b

bubbie   was   incapable   of   having   her   own   kids   which   is   why   yasmin   and   manny   are   her   priorities   .   manny   isn’t   in   her   care   simply   because   he   was   born   out   of   leverage   to   make   sure   yasmin   never   rescinded   her   title   or   claim   for   the   throne   of   the   dominion   .   that   does   not   mean   bubbie   or   yasmin   never   stopped   trying   to   be   active   participants   in   his   life   .   efforts   were   always   made   to   try   and   put   him   under   her   care   as   well   but   they   were   always   unsuccessful   .   it’s   truthfully   one   of   the   reasons   yasmin   admires   her   because   of   the   simple   fact   bubbie   cared   and   was   always   persistent   .   she   never   doubted   the   faith   or   loyalty   of   her   aunt   unlike   other   members   of   the   family   .   bubbie   viewed   yasmin   as   a   special   human   being   ,   something   no   person   could   deny   ,   yet   she   didn’t   view   her   as   only   that   .   she   treated   her   as   an   individual   who   just   wanted   a   life   outside   of   what   the   coven   could   offer   to   make   sure   yasmin   had   as   much   normalcy   the   world   had   to   offer   .

her   aunt   is   also   very   affection   both   physically   and   emotionally   .   the   two   often   reassured   each   other   just   how   much   they   loved   one   another   by   doing   simple   gestures   like   attending   mass   ,   taking   each   other   out   to   lunch   ,   hugging   one   another   and   overall   just   making   effort   to   put   time   aside   for   the   two   to   spend   quality   time   with   one   another   .   bubbie   is   the   exact   opposite   of   what   teresa   and   antonio   had   to   offer   which   was   strange   especially   since   bubbie   and   teresa   were   sisters   and   raised   with   one   another   .   

their   love   was   infinite   and   there   was   never   any   hesitation   or   question   as   to   what   the   duo   meant   to   one   another   .   although   bubbie   was   her   aunt   and   legal   guardian   ,   that   is   yasmin’s   parent   in   every   way   possible   and   no   person   or   thing   could   ever   change   that   .

DYNAMICS   :   yasmin   santiago   and   antonio   santiago   .

antonio   santiago,   is   the   patriarch   of   the   santiago   family   and   current   sovereign   of   the   dominion   coven.   although   he   is   the   first   born   child   of   his   generation   of   the   santiago   family,   understanding   the   pressure   that   it   puts   on   their   shoulder,   didn’t   make   him   any   less   toxic.   yasmin   and   antonio   were   similar   in   more   ways   than   one   as   much   as   she   hates   to   admit   it.   he   wasn’t   the   perfect   father,   furthest   from   it,   with   loyalties   lying   with   the   general   population   of   the   public   rather   than   his   own   family,   he   did   provide   some   tips   to   help   yasmin   manage   her   duties   to   the   coven.   he   didn’t   help   her   out   of   the   goodness   of   his   heart;   it   was   because   she   was   their   next   leader   and   he   couldn’t   have   her   fail   and   make   a   mockery   of   the   santiago   name.   she   needed   to   be   prepared   for   everything   that   will   come   her   way.   antonio   protected   her   from   all   attempted   assassinations,   discovered   who   set   everything   in   motion,   and   then   executed   for   their   acts   of   treason.  with   yasmin   fulfilling   the   covens   prophecy,   everyone   knowing   that   it   was   her   that   would   make   the   biggest   change   to   the   group   since   the   start,   he   couldn’t   help   but   brag.  

she   was   a   trophy   daughter   who   he   was   happy   to   display.   even   then,   yasmin   was   still   not   good   enough   in   any   aspect.   constantly   having   someone   train   her   since   he   had   no   time   to   do   it   himself   to   the   point   of   yasmin   having   near   mental   breakdowns.   antonio   always   made   yasmin’s   feelings   feel   invalid   and   explained   that   she   does   not   have   the   luxury   to   display   any   kind   of   weakness.   it   was   a   curse   that   affected   his   entire   personality   and   connections   to   other   people.  yasmin   thought   for   a   brief   time   the   way   he   acted   towards   her   was   his   own   display   of   affection   and   love,   but   as   she   grew   up,   she   came   to   the   realization   that   it   was   an   unrealistic   expectation.  

he   never   hugged   her,   told   her   that   he   was   proud   of   her   and   most   certainly   never   told   her   that   he   loved   or   even   cared   for   her,   nothing.   it   was   just   out   of   obligation   to   keep   the   santiago’s   ruling   and   needed   yasmin   to   be   the   best   of   the   best.   when   he   signed   his   rights   away,   antonio   was   extremely   unhappy   and   uncertain   about   the   entire   ordeal.   yet,   when   the   deal   was   struck   that   if   bubby   was   to   take   her,   yasmin   will   go   through   the   covens   heiress   initiation   and   become   the   next   ruling   body   for   them   or   else   she   will   be   disowned   from   the   family   and   dominion   coven.   yasmin   has   made   threats   to   leave,   but   his   threats   were   promises.   not   only   to   put   an   assassination   on   her   life,   but   bubby’s   and   manny’s.   they   were   pawns   in   his   game   and   yas   saw   no   way   out.

DYNAMICS   :   yasmin   santiago   and   teresa   santiago   .

teresa   santiago,   born   diaz,   is   the   matriarch   of   the   santiago   family   and   current   sovereign   of   the   dominion   coven.   growing   up,   her   mother   was   cold   and   distant.   her   mothers   priority   and   loyalty   was   solely   to   the   coven   and   constantly   searching   for   ways   to   gain   power.   teresa   wasn’t   meant   to   be   a   mother   and   had   no   maternal   instinct   but   she   knew   she   had   to   produce   an   heir   in   order   to   continue   the   santiago   family   reign.   on   halloween   night,   a   sacred   night   that   the   coven   is   tied   to   especially   with   the   connection   to   the   catholic   church.   it   was   prophesied   that   the   heir   born   on   that   holy   day   within   the   church   would   display   an   immense   amount   of   power   but   that   wasn’t   something   teresa   was   fond   of.   it   was   jealousy   that   drove   her   away   from   yasmin,   believing   the   throne   and   powers   should   only   be   hers.  

growing   up,   she   wasn’t   really   a   mom   and   in   return,   essentially   just   taught   yas   to   fend   for   herself.   from   a   young   age,   yasmin   craved   the   love   and   affection   she   saw   in   other   mother-daughter   relationships.   she   tried   to   live   up   to   her   mothers   expectations   but   yas   knew   that   would   never   be   the   case.   that   no   matter   what   she   did,   nothing   would   ever   be   enough.   even   after   signing   legal   rights   away,   yas   still   couldn’t   help   but   try   even   though   she   wasn’t   teresa’s   legal   responsibility   anymore.   there’s   really   only   a   handful   of   times   where   the   two   actually   have   fond   memories   with   one   another.   at   nine,   holding   her   hand   as   she   walked   her   through   the   church   of   her   first   communion.  at   thirteen,   her   mom   doing   her   hair   for   the   formal   presentation   of   successor   which   is   mandatory   for   all   dominion   members   to   be   present   in   order   to   see   who   their   future   heir   is   .   .   .   although   the   memories   entailed   the   coven   or   church,   in   that   moment,   teresa   was   her   mom.   it   gave   her   a   small   amount   of   hope   that   there   was   something   there   for   them   to   build   on.

it   is   an   extremely   difficult   and   toxic   relationship.   the   two   don’t   talk   very   often   outside   of   coven   business   and   when   they   do   it’s   never   anything   healthy.   it’s   often   them   bickering   over   manny,   when   yas   will   officially   retake   the   throne   from   her   mother,   how   much   of   shitty   people   they   both   are.   it’s   so   difficult   and   emotionally   draining   yet   yas   still   can’t   help   but   love   her   mom   even   if   her   mom   doesn’t   reciprocate.
