Florian Nicolle
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The aspect I like about Florian Nicolle's art is the collage and the brown paper behind to make the white stand out. Also, the varying lines are interesting as there are thin drawn lines and thicker splashes that come together to form the face around the eyes Nicolle has drawn.

Russ Mills
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really like Russ Mills' work. The brush strokes become more varied and wider the further you get from the focus of the piece. I also like the use of black, white and red that he uses.

Charlotte Caron
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Charlotte Caron is an artist that adds animal faces to photographs of people. This would be a good way to create some concept art. Transformation, mixing, deconstruction and reconstruction. Each piece is a photograph of a friend she painted onto directly and I would like to try this as I am working traditionally predominantly anyway.

Antonio Mora
Tumblr media
Antonio Mora is a Photographer. He uses editing to create a combination or portraiture and landscape. This would make an incredible front cover for 'Final Girl,' incorperating the scyscraper she is trapped in with her face would be a good way to demonstrate what is happening in the work.

Claire Curneen
Tumblr media
Claire Curneen is a porcelain artist. She depicts martyrs from fables, myths, and religious texts. The figures have unusual proportions, with their sacrifice being acknowledged in their blood being golden.
I like her work because the figures are imperfect and her other work feels like it could serve as a stop-motion animation set. I would like to draw from her work when I make my own figures and sets.

Elissa Farrow Savos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elissa Farrow Savos is a sculpture artist who incorporates found objects into her work, making them a cabinet of curiosities in their own right. Her work is imperfect by design and I like that, with the cracks being darker and emphasized. She is inspired by the role of women in the home and breaking from that mold.

Justin Bower
Tumblr media
Justin Bower works with themes of "liquid, leaking, fractured, holographic, destabilized, liminal, overlaps, interfaces, feedback loops etc."
I like the glitching effect the repeating features provides. I also like the use of pattern in the background and the use of colour throughout, as the colours appear to be the same hue as those appearing on a test card so it's bright and adds the appearance of technology overtaking the figure.

Arturo Leal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arturo Leal is a quite eclectic artist. He has pieces in graphite, charcoal, and graphite. It was quite refreshing to see some simpler art which is still effective.
The pieces fit well with the horror genre I wish to work with. I like the sketchiness and I feel it conveys emotion and tone well.

Peter Randall Page's work feels otherworldly and grotesque to me. In some ways, it reminds my of Tropophobia or the fear of holes. In others, it makes me think of HP Lovecraft and his descriptions of beasts and non-Euclidean geometry.

Kate Atkin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kate Atkin works in very large scale with very small drawing implements. This means that when you get closer to her work, you can see the intricacies of it. I love the way this looks. The combination of lines coming together to create a large piece is something I enjoy in art.
This is the type of work I feel most comfortable producing so I should aim to incorporate it into my work as it would allow me to create more and better work as I'm so used to making it.

Clara Lieu
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clara Lieu is an artist who creates both sculpture and charcoal pieces. She deals with the theme of mental illness and how isolating it can be.
Her figures are contorted. She exaggerates features and expressions and places them abnormally on the face. Her work, due to it's nature, has very few sharp lines, appearing confused and ghost-like to convey the brain fog that comes with mental illness.

Rita Kirkman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though Rita Kirkman usually paints people and animals, I like the way she captures landscapes. She does a painting a day so is forced to capture the scene quickly whilst still capturing the detail. This results in paintings like the ones above. I like the depth and the quick way she works would suit my attention span and allow me to create a greater body of better work.

Evelyn Hamilton
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Evelyn Hamilton creates traditional portraiture. She works in oil paint.
The reason for her inclusion in my research is how her paintings feel both very feminine and very fragmented. They are almost dreamlike in appearance and the use of colour is spectacular. I especially like the work she does on a black background because it feels ethereal in nature.

If Anything Happens I Love You
Tumblr media
'If Anything Happens I Love you' is a short film directed by Will McCormack and Michael Govier. The film was released on Netflix and tells the story of two parents confronting the loss of their child, who was killed in a school shooting, with the title referring to the last text sent to the parents by their daughter before she was killed.
The film is devastating. At one point, the shadows of the parents try desperately to stop their daughter entering the school where she was killed and it's difficult to watch. In Amarica, it is a legitimate fear that their child might die to an act of gun violence. Generally, one of the worst things a parent can go through is losing a child.
The film worked closely with Everytown for Gun Safety and was incredibly tactful with their handling of serious topics. I hope to be able to tackle difficult topics like this in my own work without being insensitive or distasteful.
In regards to animation, the style is fitting, with the film being predominantly black and white with splashes of colour with meaning. This is what I hope to achieve with my TV Series.

Faith Humphrey Hill
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Faith Humphrey Hill is a mixed media artist who creates animated portraits using a combination of traditional knitting and digital drawing. These are beautiful and short animations made of people and pets.
In regards to 2D animation, this is a method I would like to try in the future. I really like the texture of the knitting and the crosshatching too.

Mulyana
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mulyana is a crochet artist. He usually works in vibrant colours and depicts coral reefs in large scale sets. He works with under privileged groups teaching them to crochet and creating artwork with them.
I like the set above for my TV series due to it being black and white and my short film due to it being stop-motion. His work is fun and vibrant, which is what I intend to achieve with my film.
