I haven't posted in forever, but I just found out that Nora Sakavic has confirmed an AFTG spin off about Jean Moreau on her twitter, called "The Sunshine Court." Is Jerejean confirmed? This is going to be so awful. I'm so excited. I'm screaming.

It always baffles me how people say that Blue Sargent is a "not-like-other-girls" type character. Blue, who before the raven boys, was only ever close to the women in her life. She's more like "not-like-other-people."

I can’t express to you how grateful I am that Amat and Maya never got together in Beartown. And how Maya didn’t get with anyone in the series.
Amat went through some serious growth, but we can’t forget that he witnessed Maya’s rape and allowed her to get cruicified by the residents of Beartown for it. Despite him knowing the truth- that Maya wasn’t lying- he didn’t say anything in favor of fitting in with the team. He did come out in defence of Maya later on, but the damage was already done. He chose to be silent.
Maya forgave Amat and they became friends, but after what he did, having a romantic relationship would be off the table. Not only that, but because of Maya’s trauma from the assault, she probably wouldn’t be in the mental head space to date anybody. Even in the last installment of the series, she is getting there, but she isn’t ready to be with anyone romantically.
Not all female characters need romance subplots. Maya was a character that didn’t need a love interest, so she didn’t have one. She existed as her own character, and her plot focused on her, her familial relationships, and her friends. Some authors- mostly male- can’t comprehend that women can exist without a boyfriend, but Maya remained single the whole series. Another reminder that Fredrick Backman is a genius and one of- if not the only- man I trust to write female protagonists with grace and respect.

Every time I read a Pynch fanfic and Adam and Ronan call each other pet names I get very confused. Like, you just had Adam call Ronan “Ro” and Ronan call Adam “baby”… did we read the same book?? The only pet names I will tolerate are “shitbag” “asshole” and “ancient eldritch forest”

Something inside of me is broken, because today I went to an art gallery and all I could think of was Declan Lynch. I saw a black and white abstract piece and I just thought: Declan would cry over this.

Tbh, I hate that AFTG is set in the early 2000′s, but its only redeeming quality for me is imagining Allison in Y2K Paris-Hilton esque fashion with that trashy makeup and a belly button ring

Okay, I know so many Priory of the Orange Tree fans hate Niclays, but I actually love him. I love the trope of crotechty old people with backstories, and his relationship with that Lasian woman (I forgot her name, sorry) was so sweet. The man was going through it- his lover died and then so did Truyde, who was practically the old good thing left in his life. I understand why he went a bit crazy

Sometimes I forget that AFTG is a real book series and not something I randomly came up with in my head. Like, there’s no way its actually a published piece of literature, but there it is on my shelf

Anyone else finish “The Winners” by Fredrick Backman and feel absolutley robbed that Benji and Big City didn’t get together romantically? Yeah, I get that friendship is important but Benji already had such great friendship dynamics, and him and Big City had such potential. I really thought it was being hinted at, then Backman was like sike! SPOILER- You killed Benji tragically, at least let him have a boyfriend first?

I am coming out as a lover of Cardan’s tail!!!! It makes him unique and is a metaphor for his differences and how he hides parts of himself so others will like him more. If you want a classically attractive, normal-looking guy, read a rom-com. This is high fantasy- some of the characters are green. How many of your book boyfriends have tails? None. That’s why he’s the coolest.

AFTG hot take: I personally really dislike Kandreil. The book spent so much time developing this intimate, unique connection between Andrew and Neil, having them gain trust with each other and gradually becoming comfortable with one another in a way they didn’t have with anyone else. I feel it would be random to just throw Kevin into that. He wouldn’t fit, and it totally changes their dynamic. I’m such a lover of Andrew and Neil together, I couldn’t imagine them with anyone else. No hate if you love Kandreil at all, you’re entitled to your opinion, and this ones mine.
