i keep thinking about how interesting the Albany is as a place for Raffles to live (even outside the Ives context) just from the layout and design of the buildings themself?? like its kind of a little panopticon all of its own. every entrance and exit is past a porter who knows all the residents. each set of rooms has HUGE 2m wide floor-to-ceiling windows facing into the courtyard, and none at all facing Outside the campus. Residents are vetted by a committee before being allowed to take rooms, and aren't allowed to speak to each other if they meet in the courtyard. So you're living in fairly guaranteed privacy from anyone Except your direct neighbours, who might easily know anything about you but you wont even speak unless you're actually friends/acquaintances. its just such a strange and unique(?) set-up and its perfect background tension for residents to be Keeping Secrets and Doing Crimes and Maintaining A Reputation idk its fun!
