Full Sail don’t have any contract with Apple, they give a Mac to every student because in the industry of Music, Film, Digital Art, Technology and Entertainment, working on a Mac is industry standard…
“Apple is losing its grip on American classrooms, which technology companies have long used to hook students on their brands for life.” -NY Times
Firstly we’re talking about a for-profit organization that’s sole purpose is to make money off of education, they work with Apple because Apple makes them the most money.
Secondly there’s no contract, Apple simply offers them better pricing than their competition does because they know how valuable it is to get students learning how to do their jobs on macs.
On top of that, I went to college for digital media, it was all macs and they said the same thing.
After I made a joke about not having money for other things because we had so many macs I learned from the man that ran the entire program that Apple was actually the cheapest.
And per industry standard, go walk through Pixar who leads the animation industry in many ways, and see it’s a mix of mac and pc.

No, I haven’t invested thousands of dollars for a PC rig. Of course not. Ok, try to run natively OS X on your rig… Even Windows runs better on a Mac with faster IO execution…
So you’re comparing your experience with a PC that didn’t even meet your needs vs a mac that was probably around 2k…
gchriswill
Most versatile computer, yes… Why, you can integrate a Mac in any environment and runs natively or virtually mostly any OS though…
No. PC’s can run more hardware, more software, in more environments.
The fact that Mac’s can run Windows but MacOS doesn’t have drivers for most PC hardware so PC’s can’t run MacOS doesn’t make them more versatile, actually the opposite.
That being said, my PC runs Maverick’s in VM very well, and I could make it run without emulation.
Hands down, you’ll find PC’s in a wider range of environments because they can run a much wider range of hardware, which then opens up more software compatibility.
Mac’s aren’t more versatile.
gchriswill
Macs are a jewel in the creative environment. Mostly EVERY DESIGNER uses on for work… Mostly EVERY developer uses one in their setup…
I’ve heard the same thing from Apple fanboys a million times, but until you start listing real features, it’s just talk.
Listing designers and other people using Mac’s is anecdotal evidence (logical fallacy) and doesn’t really mean anything for their quality, good or bad. The user who purchased the mac likely doesn’t even know what country it was assembled, let alone its true value.
gchriswill
And that’s a FACT…
Facts are what I use, you are biased towards Apple and I don’t even think you should have an opinion on Mac vs PC yet since you clearly haven’t worked with decent Windows machines enough to have a proper comparison.
You had some cheap PC’s that anyone would dislike and now you think that’s what PC’s are like for everyone, that’s bias.
Full Sail uses Mac’s not because they’re better for media but because Apple underbid PC’s in order to get students learning on their computers first and more comfortable with them instead of PC’s, your bias towards apple is a product of apples marketing strategies.
gchriswill
macOS NEVER ask Users for such thing though…
Context? What are you talking about?
gchriswill
And yes, most parts of Apple computers are from 3rd party vendors, BUT mostly made specifically for Mac…
“Most” is wrong. ALL. Every single part of a mac computer is made by someone else and assembled by someone else, which is Foxconn. The only part of the mac that’s made by Apple is the design. Mac’s are made by the same people that make PC’s.
gchriswill
Hey, I got a nice and decent idea. Why we just do a test challenge between any of your PC with the same or similar specs as my Mac, with default configurations and see which computer preserves the best functional performance? When debating I don’t like to talk much, I like to execute and prove what I’m saying is fact… 🙂 So, let me know whenever you can if you accept the challenge or not… 😉
Respectfully, you don’t like to talk much because you don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve spent over a decade between Mac’s and PC’s and you’ve never even owned a good PC… For about 6 years I had a Powermac G5 next to a PC and switched between them with a KVM, you haven’t compared the two platforms that thoroughly.
Back to your challenge, I don’t have hardware that’s similar except for my outdated macbook pro, and my PC will absolutely destroy your mac.
The highest end Mac Pro with a Xeon processor is still less powerful than my X99 PC. My PC’s CPU, RAM, GPU, and SSD are all faster.
So no, I don’t “accept the challenge” because it’s not a challenge, even if you had the best mac on the market my PC would dominate it with RAM that’s twice as fast, etc.
gchriswill
Also, I think you posted your fragmentation link in the wrong spot. I just read it….
Well that explains a lot, sorry I’m trying to give thorough responses without spending too much time here. I do apologize.
gchriswill
Yes, that why, macOS will runs way much smother, faster over PC. The “harmony” of software, hardware and services, is a combination of their success though… As you said, Microsoft provide Windows builds to PC third party vendors for customizing it as needed. But that is the main error Microsoft did… That’s why Mac is feels so exclusive/high quality and Windows is not. For example, using a Mac is like driving a Tesla, and using a PC is like driving a Saturn…
No, using those pieces of junk you had for PC’s is like a Saturn. My PC boots in two seconds and is rock-solid, which is more like a Tesla. Its interface is clean and fast and it never crashes.
gchriswill
But as a Software Engineer/dev, I don’t see it relevant to use “Fragmentation” statements like that, thus audience might not be familiar with the term or my get confused, like I did when you use it in a context where you didn’t specified by a following statement. And worst, provided the wrong back up link source (which is your own, in which post don’t have any external and credible sources…) Fragmentation in the PC world = disk fragmentation though… right?
Had you known more about Mac’s vs PC’s you’d know what type of fragmentation I’m talking about without context. It’s a staple of the debate, Apple isn’t as fragmented, while Windows is more versatile.
And you can easily google anything I say, so I don’t bother sourcing since I deal only in facts.

gchriswill: I had to jump in to this conversation. The topic is a bit biased and some don’t understand the real virtue of Apple computer nowadays. I’ve always been a PC user, for gaming, for work, for home. I’m a Software Engineer and Developer. I’ve been programming for the past 4 years. And until, 2012, that I owned my first Mac, for academic programming training at Full Sail University, I’ve been using a Mac and detach every Windows relationship since then.
There has been only a reason that I had been forced to install Windows in my Mac, Gaming due to Mac lacks a bit on gaming. I know Macs are pricey, but if you don’t know or even experienced the harmony between Apple hardware, Software and Services, then there’s no way you could make a point with a huge loop hole between its end.
Just ask real Pro Users. Not just the ones that makes reviews or get paid to promote or advertise, or even worst collect your opinion to make it theirs. I’m not trying to offend no one, this is reality. Why the heck nobody ask real Pro Users. Such like developers, designers, Content Media Creators, even hackers… What you see on their desks? Is not about price or even look, is how they work and the results you get from them. The Mac is a most versatile computer as for today, since 2008.
No one can argue that, NO ONE!… You can run mostly any operating system on a Mac, not just macOS, FYI. Also, the Mac is the most durable machine yet. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro non-retina, with top specs. I used it as a Laptop, as desktop, and a portable server. I run several virtual machines, running a variety of different operating systems, plus gaming, plus design tools, plus web, software and mobile development tools. Multiples monitors and multiple hard drive / SSD enclosures.
And my mac still runs flawlessly, since I got it. And, combined with iPhone and Watch, honestly I’m not going back to Windows. And every person that had a similar experience will say the same. I don’t know your backgrounds or why you need a computer for. But, if you figure how to use a Mac and take advantage of all its capabilities, the you will say the same and feel the same about Apple products as I do…
PC you said? Man, every pc that I’ve owned, it had last for about a year, due to the pressure I had put into it. Before anyone talks about PC and Mac, please ask people with knowledge and experience on both, and mostly real Pro/Power Users. Man, anyone that uses a Mac for work, they’re really generating money and don’t care about pricing that much, because it’s going to pay for itself over time…
On the side of a consumer product, yes, it’s a bit pricey… But remember, a Mac is a high quality product among the rest of computers and not just for everyone. A Mac is for people that think differently…
It’s understandable but surprising that for a software engineer/dev you didn’t mention fragmentation, which is that “harmony” you speak of. Here’s a post where I talk about Apple’s quality:
http://altruistech.tumblr.com/post/110176094603/whats-really-different-about-apple
The Mac is a most versatile computer as for today, since 2008.
I do have to say this, the Mac is not the most versatile computer, there’s dozens of PC’s that are more versatile, as in capable of running more software and hardware than a Mac.
If a customer comes to me for a deep learning computer the only choice is a PC. If another customer needs a gaming and twitch streaming computer, a PC is the best choice.
Most versatile? No. Best for every content creator or dev? No. That harmony you speak of is only worth so much, and only useful to certain people.
Regarding the value of Mac’s, it depends on the user, but most people can use Windows 10 (which is dramatically improved from 7 or 8.1) and have it meet all of their needs perfectly well.
http://altruistech.tumblr.com/post/143381454353/noobaside-said-apple-is-so-overpriced-for-what
Here’s an example of their products being simply overrated:
http://altruistech.tumblr.com/post/135279621503/my-8-year-old-thinkpad-wacom-stylus-vs-the-new
And this post explains the value in their ability to test so much of their own hardware:
http://altruistech.tumblr.com/post/115303629283/apple-hardware-test-simply-press-d-before-the
PC you said? Man, every pc that I’ve owned, it had last for about a year, due to the pressure I had put into it.
I’m going to be honest, it sounds like you didn’t invest in the right PC hardware, certainly not powerful enough, and probably not with Windows 10.
My rig was built for CAD, virtualization, gaming, etc, and it will last longer than my macbook pro simply because it’s massively more upgradeable and it helps that it’s very well cooled.
You mentioned pressure killing your PC’s, my PC literally never idles because I run Folding@Home and virtualized servers, and it’s going to last much longer than a year.
What’s very likely is you never had the proper PC hardware and then jumped to Apple which always make sure even the base models run their OS very well.

My main problem with apple has always been their pricing. I would love to use Apple software, and in fact that's why I Hackintoshed a Thinkpad. But ideally I'd just be able to get a reasonably priced Apple computer some day.
Yeah their pricing is pretty high. I think the Mac mini is the only “reasonably” priced one in its class but even then it’s just a basic desktop and it’s still a bit questionable. I guess try looking at used or refurbished Macs (or Hackintosh like you did) if you want one for cheaper.

99.999% of the questions customers ask me they could have google’d and not paid me hourly to answer for them.
It’s because of this that I don’t think voting works in America anymore, people are honestly really stupid and they don’t even try to learn by themselves.
