Heartstrings fact for this post: Something Dude struggles with his whole life is this overwhelming feeling of emptiness. like to the point where it’s almost unbearable. He feels he cant connect with anyone, and that he wont be truly loved or seen by anyone. He feels like an outsider. His peers were pretty cruel to him when he was a kid just because he was “weird” and “off-putting” (he was just undiagnosed autistic). He ate alone in elementary and middle school, he had nobody to hang out with during recess so he typically stayed in classrooms eating and drawing by himself.

Eventually all the abandonment he endured growing up as well as the bullying manifests in BPD. He just wants to be wanted. He just wanted to be loved.

These feelings are something Ira takes advantage of. Naturally his symptoms worsen over the course of / at the end of their relationship.

Heartstrings issue 1… has been finished and sent off to print…. words cannot describe how happy I am to no longer have to work on this lmao. I actually finished it up maybe a week ago and sent it out but I wanted to sit with the victory for a little bit before announcing it and having it become more real if that makes sense. Close friends have seen me work on Dude’s whole schtick for the past 3 years. Honestly I never imagined I’d be getting so attached to him, nor did I ever imagine people would like him so much. He became so much more than what I had intended.

I hope to keep working with Dude and his story for many years to come. Now I will take a small break in writing before I start working on the graphic novel.

Issue 1 is already being posted on my patreon, if you’re interested come and see it! It will be up on my tumblr maybe this fall or something I don’t really know the release schedule yet. I’m gonna take a small break from thinking about this kinda stuff, but when I know I will tell y’all.
