The Deck | Muskegon, MI
Overall rating: 5/5
Value: 5/5
Vibe: 5/5
Comments: The Deck is an absolute must in the Muskegon area. The restaurant sits right off of Lake Michigan and features live music to create an upbeat vibe. The menu features a large variety of savory foods that come at large portions, making it incredible value.
Picture 1 - ($14) Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. Served with creamy coleslaw, dill pickle slices, pickled red onion, deck sauce, and BBQ kettle chips.

Picture 2 - ($16) Nashville Hot Chicken burro bowl. Served with queso, shredded cheddar, sour cream, cilantro lime rice, refried beans, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, smoked tomato salsa, jalapeno hot sauce, guacomole, and tortilla ships. This bowl was as tasty as it was fun to eat. Try out different ways to enjoy this by using the bowl as dip for the chips, dipping the chips into the deck sauce or queso, crunching up the chips into the bowl for some added crunch, or simply mixing up the bowling and eating it as is.

Picture 3 - ($14) Smoked Whitefish Dip. Served with BBQ kettle chips, diced hard boiled egg, pickled red onion, dill pickle slices, and a lemon wedge.

Dokl’s Grill | Belmont, MI
Tumblr media
Overall: 3/5
Value: 4/5
Vibe: 1/5
Comments: Dokl's is an interesting meat market tucked in the corner of a leased building. Funny enough there is a popular Subway in the front of the building, and the lesser-known Dokl's is off to the side.
I had the Bratwurst Sandwich. Bratwurst had been grilled and sliced for this sandwich and placed on a hearty bed of stone ground mustard and slightly crunchy sauerkraut. The pretzel bun was soft, yet warm. It was not at all  mushy or muddled by the contents of the sandwich. The fries were thick and crispy, yet soft inside. Well seasoned. They gave you a homemade pickle as well which assisted with soothing my palette of the extreme flavor of the bratwurst half-way through eating the sandwich.
There is absolutely no vibes about this meal. I took it to go, but man is this thing ugly. Refer to the picture. It didn't look great before taking a bite either. The shop itself is just kind of a meat shop. Nothing crazy, and nothing wrong with that.
Biting into the sandwich presented what I thought of as a war between the sauerkraut and the bratwurst. The sauerkraut is calm and refreshing while the bratwurst is spiced, savory, and fatty. Everything about it is delicious and it explodes in your mouth with a hint of pretzel from the grilled bun.
Half-way through I decided this was more of a 3/5. I got tired quickly from eating the sandwich because it was so aggressive. The brat was overpowering, even if it was cooked and crafted with utmost care. I lost my appetite for the last fourth of the sandwich, but it was delicious, and I will be going back to try something else next time.

Ginza | Grand Rapids, MI
Tumblr media
Overall: 4/5
Value: 4/5
Vibe: 4/5
Comments: Ginza is a outskirts of downtown vibe. Bustling, but not too bustling. You can rarely get out of a medium class Japanese restaurant for $17 or $18 and you can fill up on this dish for that much. The spice level is great and adjustable. Plenty of variety as well at the restaurant.
Pic 1: Karaka Ramen. $14.00 A soy fermented egg, perfectly braised pork belly slices, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, bok choy, freshly made ramen noodles, rich ramen broth with Japanese spices and oils floating around. Green onion to garnish.
