@underarmour Backpack Series #1: I feel naked hiking without a backpack. To feel like an adventurer, I need it. I’ve been using the same one that I bought for college nearly 8 years ago. Sure it’s gone through some wear and tear, but it carries deep meaning to me because of what it represents. Everywhere in the world I’ve been, it’s been with me. One day while traveling through Costa Rica, I came across a song on a Soundcloud shuffle called The Journey. I was hooked. I looked up the YouTube version and saw it paired with a photo (by @richardgaston) that perfectly encapsulated all the emotions I had been feeling thousands of miles from home. A lone wolf, young, and nowhere near a land I was used to. It hit me hard, and to this day it is still one of my favorite songs ever (thank you @tommisch) There’s good reason why, as of this post, that video has over 7.5 million views (you got my subscription @majesticcasual) And so, from that moment was born this idea of letting my backpack be the star of my travels. Everybody has an object that means a lot to them, something they see as crucial to part of their identity. Train tracks. A timeless symbol for the potential paths life may take you. Choose wisely. Once you get on, there is no turning back. This notion of picking the right path, even when the future is unknown, is scary. Fear of choosing incorrectly may make it difficult to do so. You become paralyzed. The best apparent choice is none at all – zugzwang, as it’s known in chess. Yet, no decision is a decision. Unlike chess, this “end goal” of life is harder to determine. As you stand there mulling your options, recognize the best move is not purely a physical one, but a mental one as well. Committing to any decision without regret is optimal. Though you cannot turn back, you can always get off the current track and move onto another one. Only briefly, it’s important to look over your shoulder first and take note of how far you’ve come.
