Hey y'all, thanks for checking things out on this blog. I've been having some trouble with Tumblr visibility issues that I'm contacting support about. But in the meantime, my friend and I created a new blog @apollo-justice-retold for anything and everything related to our Apollo Justice rewrite fic. Back from the dead with a new Rumefuu! This was made for an AU co-created by VermillionShackle on AO3 and myself. The scene in the picture is actually a scene from his fanfic for this AU:

This is a Milgram Idol AU where all the prisoners are actually idols and the concept of their group, Milgram, is their canon story of being trapped in a weird prison after committing "murders." There is one incredibly important twist, though: The Milgram idol group is fully run by Denny's, which in this AU is a high end restaurant chain. Fuuta is Prisoner No. 003 of the Milgram group and Rumerie is a hot-shot model, with a Gentle Monster brand deal. This is the Milgram Denny's AU, crack treated (as you can hopefully tell by the image) very seriously.

One of the two ads in the back is actually a full piece and it is under the cut (Warning: Eyestrain, tasteful clothes-less-ness).

The amount I had to study Gentle Monster just for a joke ad that takes up a tiny amount of space...

This is a great point. I don't know how I missed it! It adds to the whole surreal vibe the painting gives. Kinda like it's saying "something is very off here" when you look at their relationship. And now that Cat is out, we know that something was wrong with the relationship from the start. Good catch!

I will get back to this theory with more digging. But seeing this appear in the MV made me quadruple-take in the span of less than a second.... I've literally drawn this before this MV came out. As one of my friends put it, I've been brainrotting about Cat before Cat happened.

Now more than ever, Kazui's symbolism is getting connected to more famous artists (Leyendecker, Warhol, and of course more Magritte with the dove), and I cannot wait to dig into these connections.

Quick analyze Mahiru's birdcage real quick and it's connections to fashion and literature.

Firstly, let's start on the fashion connections- alot of fashion brands use birdcages in their advertisement and products

Often times the birdcage is meant to show these women as "lavish" and luxurious. Same with presenting items in birdcages.

Also, it seems mahiru's earings are based chanel's birdcage earrings, except the birds are inside the cage instead of flying away.

Mahiru's music video is heavily tied to fashion and magazines, so I doubt this is a coincidence.

Also birdcages in painting and literatures are used to represent a women trapped by a relationship.

Both women seem to have affluent lives, but the birdcages are meant to symbolize how they're trapped by the men in their life and financially dependant on them.

This trope is popular enough to gain its own TV tropes page

Mahiru's birdcage is gorgeous, with intricate designs and has a whole living room but she stills longingly looks out of her cage at times. I don't think it's a stretch to apply the symbolism from both the fashion magazines (being lavish) with literatures and paintings (being trapped).

Also if I see Mahiru wearing an birdcage veil in "I love you" I'm gonna fucking lose it

asihdgasyugda so. Technically he isn't an OC. He's this guy:

People managed to link the color his profile picture's color to the color one of the guys in the arcade flashes and so it's been kinda accepted that he's this pink-haired guy:

And a big reason why he matters is this graffiti that shows "Rumerie" intertwined with "Pazuzu," Fuuta's username.

Whatever that means is up in the air but I'm choosing to see it as shipping fuel asdnkahsbkda. Some people see it as part of a theory where Fuuta is impersonated by members of the Dark Triad (his twitter circle). There's very little known about Rumerie, though, except that he's really involved in Fuuta's story, especially in the Killcheroy (the middle school girl) incident.

So he isn't technically an OC, but he's practically a canon-provided template for an OC. There's so little known about him that you can take his character in a bunch of different directions.

Oh! Ok! Prepare for a long reply lmao.

This is gonna sound kinda weird but I'm gonna put a kinda disclaimer here: I think the best part of Rumerie is how little we know about him and how many ways people can take his character. He's really what each person makes of him. I like discussing my interpretation but I don't want it to heavily influence others' interpretations because that's how fanon happens. I'm not big on when fanon kinda gets set in stone, you know?

Anyway! For me at least, Fuuta's got a tsundere thing going on but he's also very bad at being subtle (gets caught staring or says things out loud that he meant to say in "voiceover"). Rumerie's more of a naturally charming guy and a bit of a flirt. So when he notices how Fuuta feels about him, I think he'd play along for a bit and flirt and tease Fuuta until "haha wait what are these feelings im suddenly having?"

(Many more thoughts about the specifics down below.)

I do think Rumerie is someone who has a bit of a scary side to him, though. He's the kind of guy who doesn't get irritated easily, but when he holds things in long enough, he'll just explode. Because of that, he's difficult to read (especially if he's wearing his shades!). This is the opposite of Fuuta who's very vocal about what annoys him and is irritated half the time lmao.

That said, I'm actually partial to Rumefuu being a pretty positive relationship (at least at the beginning). My idea is that they met online through a game (League of Legends, lmao) and then they met in person later on. I like to think that Fuuta had a crush on him before they even met irl, and Rumerie felt it back after they met. Fuuta deals with so much shit in his life, I think the last thing he needed narratively was a relationship that was disingenuous from the get-go. I'm thinking a good emotional connection, good sex (for Fuuta? no way!?), and a they've already got the shared interests covered. They'll definitely have some bumps along the road, but in general I like to think they have a relationship neither of them want to lose.

Because it'll hurt a lot more when they lose it.

My idea is that Fuuta still ended up joining the Dark Triad because of his sense of justice. Rumerie didn't want this, because he knows what DT's really about, but he lets Fuuta join, and now they're both stuck. Fuuta starts getting really into it and DT keeps him as a potential scapegoat (he's not really part of their inner circle). Most of the whole "Pressure! Pressure!" comes from the other DT members and not Rumerie. Not that Rumerie can do anything about it. (If DT caught a whiff of him turning on them, they'd make him a target.) Then when the whole Killcheroy thing happened, they all — Rumerie unwillingly included — dropped Fuuta.

The one thing that might be weird about my characterization of them is about their names. I know a bunch of people have given Rumerie a name (Victimgram comes to mind here), but I'm taking the fact that we don't know his name and running with it. It all comes back to Rumerie being in DT and that leading to him being almost paranoid about internet safety. He doesn't tell anyone his name, because that's private info that can be used against him. His friends call him Rume and he calls Fuuta Pazuzu. So yeah, they might call each other by their twitter handles during sex, but wte, it's for the Plot.
